Velká Británie jako multikulturní země? Britská imigrační politika v 60. letech 20. století / United Kingdom as a multicultural country? British immigration policy United Kingdom during the '60sHložánková, Lucie January 2010 (has links)
This diploma thesis is analysing society in the United Kingdom during the '60s. The United Kingdom today is seen as multicultural society with open and positive approach to immigrants from all different parts of the World. The first wave of immigrants arrived right after the WWII. These first immigrants were coming to the United Kingdom from all parts of the British Empire. Mainly from India, Pakistan and Caribbean. The situation changed during the '60s. Despite the fact that number of the immigrants was not too high, the new laws were introduced to stop immigration from non-European countries. My initial hypothesis: In the post war period the UK impeded the free immigration to the country. How the United Kingdom treated the immigrants during the '60s? What was the proportion of immigrants of the total population? I would like to lay emphasis on the analysis of the government steps, the responsible ministries and mood changes in the society. One chapter is devoted to the analysis of the situation in London. Which is an exceptional area with a high number of immigrants. The situation in the UK will be a part of comparison with selected countries of Western Europe. This is to show the difference between the British approach during the period. The aim of this thesis is to look for the reasons why the United Kingdom applied a different approach to immigrants compare to Western Europe during the '60s and to highlight the main aspects of the changes in attitudes towards immigrants.

Kuala Lumpur, métropolisation et mondialisation au risque du tourisme : enjeux et perspecvtives / Kuala Lumpur, metropolisation and globalisation through the mirror of tourism : challenges and opportunitiesBouchon, Frédéric 06 February 2012 (has links)
Since the 1990’s, the globalization phenomenon has transformed urban spaces. Cities are repositioned as competitive pivotal nodes in globalized networks. Moreover, the metropolization phenomenon coincides with a new urban economy that activates a growing commodification of cities thus becoming tourism destinations. However, the relationship between globalization, metropolization and touristification is seldom articulated in a singular reflection. Besides, academic research has focused on European and American cities, giving it a much Western perspective to global dynamics. Studies on non-Western cities, especially in Southeast Asia remain relatively marginal. The proposal of this study is to look at the dynamics of tourism and the metropolisation in Kuala Lumpur. The Malaysian capital, appears to be both an urban and a multicultural model, aims at becoming a "global" city despite its contradictions mirrored through the tourism components. The practices of the city and its representations refer to urbanity, branding and qualitative criteria, in which tourism plays a key role. The analysis of the cosmopolitan metropolis, with global enclaves, connected to other cities, navigates between local and global scales. This research is organized into three parts. The theoretical underpinnings are reviewed in the first part, then, in the second part the focus moves on to the context of Kuala Lumpur. The last part addresses the urban project dynamics in the light of the touristification through a multiscalar perspective.

Estudo de Casos de São Sebastião - São Paulo / The environment and health from the perspective of social diversity: Case Study in São Sebastião in São PauloAurea Aparecida Eleuterio Pascalicchio 09 August 1994 (has links)
The particular approach about the world and cultural practices must be considered in planning health programs. : A survey of the Social Democrats and the Sweden Democrats' perspectives on integration policyMehari, Frehiwet January 2020 (has links)
The purpose of this study is to analyze the integration policy in Sweden. The nation is known for its generous migration policy, which is why a lot of people choose to move to Sweden. It is paramount that the immigrants become accustomed to and integrated into the Swedish society. For that reason, it becomes relevant to investigate the view of integration policy of the two of Sweden's largest parties, namely the Social Democrats and the Sweden Democrats. The various philosophies and principles of the parties hereby make it important to research the view of integration of the Social Democrats and the Swedish Democrats. By employing idea analysis in a comparative case study setting, we aim to analyze the integration strategies of both parties. Throughout the following work, focus lies on multiculturalism and assimilation. The aim is to investigate whether similar or different integration steps are being taken by the parties. The analysis uses the party programs of both parties, numerous party bills, and party congresses. The Social Democrats pursue a perspective of multiculturalism, while the Swedish Democrats follow a perspective of assimilation. Thus, the study concludes that the Social Democrats and the Sweden Democrats follow different views on integration policy.

The Cultural Preservation of the Navajo Nation. A multicultural and assimilation policy analysis on the Navajo Nation and cultural preservationTwaalfhoven, Lotte January 2019 (has links)
In this thesis the cultural preservation of the Navajo Nation is analyzed through a multicultural and assimilation framework. The Navajo Nation is a case study in this research. A policy analysis is used in this thesis and analyses policies in three proxy categories of culture: education, land ownership, and self-governance. The main policies analyzed in this thesis are the current (federal) policies regarding education, land ownership, and self-governance. Current means the policies that are in place and in effect today. This thesis also analyses past policies in order to create a foundation. It further analyzes these policies to examine the outcomes and implications of the policies on the cultural preservation of the Navajo Nation. Gerd Baumann’s theories on culture, Kymlicka’s liberal multiculturalism, Margalit and Halbertal’s communitarian multiculturalism, and assimilation are used as the theoretical framework of this thesis. The findings cannot be generalized. Some policies have the outcome that was intended whereas other policies have the opposite outcomes of what was intended in the policy. Thus, multicultural policies do not necessarily have a multicultural outcome, sometimes the outcomes of the policy can have an opposite outcome of what the nature of the policy is.
