Conception et optimisation d'émetteurs sélectifs pour applications thermophotovoltaïques / Coherent thermal sources Design and optimization of thermophotovoltaic applicationsNefzaoui, Elyes 08 March 2013 (has links)
Thermo-photovoltaic conversion of thermal radiation is a concept that has been thoroughly investigated during the two last decades because of its high efficiency when compared to classical photovoltaics (PV). These high performances are mainly due to the good-matching between the thermal source radiation spectrum and the PV cell conversion spectrum. Maximal efficiencies areobtained with coherent sources that emit in narrow spectral bands, just above the band gap energy of the cell. In this report, a stochastic method to design and optimize such sources, the particle swarm optimization in this case, is firstly presented. This method leads to simple one-dimensional structures, composed of thin films of dielectrics, metals and semiconductors. The radiativeproperties of these sources are easily tunable with control parameters as simple as films thicknesses and doping concentrations. They are stable at high temperatures up to 1000 K. Second, a parametric optimization study of usual materials optical properties models (Drude and Lorentz) is presented in order to maximize radiative heat transfer between semi-infinite planes separated by nanometric gaps. This leads to a simple tool in the form of abacuses which would guide the choice of relevant materials to maximize the output power of nano thermo-photovoltaic devices.

Previous issue date: 2015 / We present a study of linear carbon chains encapsulated in multi-wall carbon nanotubes (Cn@MWCNT) using electron microscopy and Raman spectroscopy in ambient and extreme conditions. The linear chains were characterized by resonance Raman, thermal analysis, ion bombardment and using high resolution and scanning transmission electron microscopy. The HRTEM images obtained here shown the chain within the innermost MWCNT and in this work we obtain the first image of ``cross-section$"$ described for this system Cn@MWCNT. A Raman experiment was carried out in high pressure conditions (from 0 to 9.54 GPa) using a paraffin oil as pressure transmitting medium. The G band frequency of nanotube increase as pressure increase while the C-C stretching mode of linear carbon chain decreases. Theoretical results based on atomistic simulations allowed an understanding of vibrational behavior of the chains. Furthermore, we conducted works that involved instrumentation in order to set in the Department of Physics of the Federal University of Ceara, the instrumentation needed for the development of a device that enables to perform Raman spectroscopy and AFM measurements. For this purpose is necessary to integrate a scan-head, a controller system that controls the probe scan-head and an optical system that communicates with an APD (avalanche photodiode device), responsible for carrying the images with a spectrometer dedicated for obtaining Raman spectra. The system is functional as regards the ability to perform confocal measurements and ready for setting the near field measurements.
This thesis consists in developing, through the LICORVE project (light garnitures, innovative, recyclable and multi-sensorial for vehicle boots applications), a measurement method for localizing and characterizing noise sources in a vehicle trunk. The measuring environment is distinguished by a small volume where the reflections on the partitions generated by the source of interest and the interfering sources cannot be neglected. Therefore, the method must allow the separation of the different contributions in order to assess accurately the studied sources. As a first step, two separation methods : Double Layer SONAH (Statistically Optimized Near-Field Acoustical Holography) and Field Separation Method (FSM) are numerically studied. The limitations and advantages of each of them are determined in a confined measuring environment; this allowed to select the most appropriate method to tackle our problem. As a second step, the main conclusions of the numerical study are confirmed experimentally. In this context, measurements are performed, using the FSM method, in a trunk mock-up to localize and characterize the controlled sources. So confirmed the reliability of the separation method, it has been tested in the boot of a Peugeot 508 SW on a roller bench. The obtained results allowed guiding the selection of garniture for the acoustic treatment.

This thesis presents research and development work on synchrotron X-ray at-wavelength metrology methods. Two approaches for measuring the phase of an X-ray wavefront were studied: the grating-based and the speckle-based methods. The X-ray grating interferometer is the most widespread technique representative of the first category. Its performance and potential in various situations encountered in at-wavelength metrology was investigated. Speckle methods are X-ray phase sensing techniques newly developed during this thesis project. They make use of membranes with small statistical features to modulate the beam wavefront. The different methods were deployed experimentally at the beamlines BM05 of the ESRF and B16 of the Diamond Light Source. Their implementation permitted the characterization of various kinds of optical elements used to manipulate synchrotron X-ray beamsas well as the feasibility study of micro phase contrast imaging using the two methods described above.

Surface plasmons (SPs) are modes of the electromagnetic field confined at the interface between a metal and a dielectric. Due to their hybrid nature, the SPs can be used to concentrate and handle light on subwavelength scales. These unprecedented properties draw great interest, in particular for quantum information transport and processing and also for the control of spontaneous emission of fluorescent emitters. The studies presented in this manuscript report the coupling of plasmonic nanostructures with luminescent nanoparticles. The tool we use is a scanning near-field optical microscope (SNOM), in which the nano-source of light is a fluorescent nano-object attached at the end of the probe (active tip). This technique allows not only to reach a better optical resolution in SNOM but also to position the nano-emitter with a nanometre precision and to excite it directly thanks to the laser light injected into the optical fibre. By using only the light emitted by the object, these tips open the way to original studies in nano-optics and plasmonics. In this work, two distinct aspects were studied. First, we studied the properties of the SPs in the quantum plasmonics regime. For this purpose, we used an active tip based on single photons emitters which are the NV centres (nitrogen-vacancy centre) hosted in nanodiamonds. The fundamental results obtained on this system make it possible to consider many other quantum plasmonics experiments. In addition, a different type of active tips based on Cerium-doped YAG (yttrium-aluminum garnet) nanoparticules was developed. These probes allow us to start new studies on localised plasmonic resonances in colloidal gold particles.

The Near Field Communication (NFC) and mobile payments are two areas in constant development in current market. Today when we use the wallet, we can found cash of different values, coins, debit and credit cards of one or two banks, loyalty cards from restaurants and shopping receipts. Even though these items found in the wallet have a symbolic value of utility, they are becoming outdated, as a plethora of plastic and paper that will not make much sense in the near future. The revolution of mobile payments is imminent and is already happening. Instead of wallets, we have mobile phones with NFC on their hardware and software that transform them into a digital wallet (e-wallet). What matters now are not the papers and cards, but stay connected to your e-wallet account\'s that has your bank details. The main objective of this dissertation is to present the development of a mobile payment system called S-Wallet system, using the technology of NFC. This work also includes the development of a protocol for mobile payments, the protocol SWEP, which performs the whole process of message exchange, data exchange and payment execution. Besides the App S-Wallet, an application interface to android users use. In addition, an account that stores users data remotely, called S-Wallet account. As part of the evaluation of the S-Wallet, we perform tests of integration of all the entities of the system. These tests showed that the S-Wallet provides usability, security and privacy to users. Further, we had performed usability tests with users showing that the S-Wallet system is easy to use and we had indicated it for the real scenario studied: payment between two users, peer-to-peer (P2P) and retail vending. This work shows that the NFC technology is secure for mobile payments and is very useful for its expansion in the commercial sector.

Transferts radiatifs de champ proche guidés : nanostructures à phonon-polaritons de surface / Guided near-field radiative heat transfer : study of nanostructures supporting surface phonon-polaritonsTranchant, Laurent 06 January 2015 (has links)
Miniaturization of transistors, whose sizes reach a few tens of nanometers nowadays, implies new problems of heat control at very short scales. This big challenge among others enabled the emergence of nanoscale heat transfer as a new research domain. Near-field heat transfer is one of the axis of this thematic. It concerns the behavior of thermal waves at a scale shorter than their wave lengths.Under these conditions the waves with the highest energy density are evanescent, that is confined at the surface. Surface phonon-polariton (SPhP) is a particular case of an evanescent wave propagating at the surface of a polar dielectric material. This PhD work consists in examining SPhP propagation along the surface of micrometric glass tubes and in proving the ability of these waves to enhance heat transfer in these systems.A theoretical analysis has been carried out to justify the use of such heat waveguides whose thermal conductivity can be doubled due to SPhP. The experimental detection of those waves based on their diffraction at the tip of the glass tubes is then presented. This emission is measured thanks to the assembly of a microscope and a Fourier-transform IR spectrometer. The presence of SPhPs is proved through measured spectra exhibiting their characteristic spectral signature.

In this study, we are interested in the problem of marine wastewater discharge via the submarine outfall. We emphasize on the urban discharge laden with suspended solids. These suspended solids may depose around the discharge point in the sea and create a highly polluted zone. The objective of this study is the modeling of deposition of suspended solids from urbandischarge in the zone near the discharge point, called nearfield, in order to understand the phenomenon and determine thereafter the treatment level upstream in addition to the configuration of the discharge point depending on the capacity of receiving milieu to assimilate the solid pollution. The work is realized in three parts. In the first part, we studied the management of urban discharge in coastal areas, including the characteristics of urban wastewater, and those of solid particles transported by wastewater. We studied also the relation between the receiving water quality criteria and urban discharge in addition to the role played by the submarine outfall in the reduction of environmental impact of the urban discharge on the marine milieu. In the second part, we concentrate on the zone near the submarine outfall that means the turbulent jet issued from the discharge. We study the hydrodynamic behaviour of the jet, the modeling of this behaviour. Then we present our Lagrangian model designed for the study of nearfield (liquid phase model). In the third part, we construct a model to anticipate the deposition of solid particles driven to the sea by the urban discharge (solid phase model). This model is based on the phenomenon of preferential concentration and is coupled with the Lagrangian model of hydrodynamic behaviour of the jet designed in the second part. The model is validated by experimental data presenting the longitudinal deposition rate of horizontal and inclined jets in stationary ambient, in presence of coflow in addition to the case of horizontal non-buoyant jets in stationary ambient. Finally, a sensitivity analysis is performed where we studied the effects of many parameters of the jet ad the ambient milieu, on the hydrodynamic behaviour of the jet and on the deposition rate.
