Innovation analysis of the adoption of BIM using Innovation theories / Innovationsanalys av antagandet av BIM med hjälp av Innovationsteorier

CHINNAPANDIAN, ANAND, BABAEI, MOHAMMAD January 2020 (has links)
When compared to other industries, the construction industry has been slow to adopt digital technologies. BIM stands for Building Information Modeling (hereon referred to as BIM) and it represents a turning point when it comes to digitalization in the AEC sector. Despite BIM’s proven potential to reduce costs and improve the efficiency of construction projects, widescale adoption, and implementation of construction projects using BIM hasn’t happened yet. This research aims to conduct an innovation analysis of adoption of BIM in Europe using innovation theories such as Rogers’s diffusion theory and Crossing the Chasm by Moore. We hope the reader will have an understanding of the various adoption barriers for BIM in Europe after reading this research paper.

Technology Adoption and Integration: A Descriptive Study of a Higher Education Institution in a Developing Nation

Nyirongo, Nertha Kate 01 May 2009 (has links)
New electronic technologies like computers and the Internet continue to spread to all parts of the world. Developing nations like Malawi have experienced this thrust in the area of electronic technologies. Mzuzu University, a relatively new university in the Malawian education system has made tremendous efforts in providing computers and the internet to faculty members of the University. It was however not clear if such efforts had resulted in corresponding application and integration of the technologies in teaching and learning. This study ventured to investigate prevailing levels of utilization of the computer technology and the Internet in teaching and learning at the university and uncover factors that facilitate or hinder use and integration of the technologies in teaching and learning. Results of the study revealed that while most faculty members actively engaged with electronic technologies, such engagements often excluded instructional use. Where electronic technologies have been used for instructional purposes, it has been mainly for accessing information for teaching. Factors that affect utilization and integration of electronic technologies comprise limited availability of the technologies; unreliability of the available technologies due to related issues like power outages and poor reception; lack of training; lack of technical, pedagogical and administrative support; and lack of faculty involvement in decision making relating to electronic technologies. / Ph. Family Experiences Concerning Adopting a Previously Institutionalized Child from Russia or Romania

Linville, Deanna Christine 27 June 2003 (has links)
The number of families choosing to adopt a child internationally in the United States has increased exponentially on an annual basis (Johnson, 1997; Miller, 2000). The purpose of this study was to understand the adoption process experiences of families who have adopted a child between the ages of three and five years old from Russia or Romania after 1992. In this clinical sample, all participants' adopted children had been referred for and undergone neuropsychological, medical, speech, and/or language evaluation. Specifically, the research questions were designed to help therapists understand the role mental health care professionals, schools, family members, and friends played in the adoption process and how the participants' experiences compared with their preadoptive expectations. Twenty families were interviewed and several observations were conducted. Data analysis consisted of thematic analysis which elicited codes and themes across the interviews. This study's findings suggest that: 1) parents would have found more preparation before adoption helpful in the process; 2) health care professionals and schools need to be better educated about problems, concerns, and appropriate treatments specific to post-institutionalized children; 3) raising (a) special needs child(ren) puts significant strain on the caregiver(s) and their significant relationships; and 4) families with special needs children are extremely resilient. These findings are important for education and healthcare professionals, families who are planning to adopt internationally in the future and current adoptive families. / Ph. D.

Peruvian Food Insecurity in The Face of Recurrent Natural Disasters: A Two-Step Adoption Analysis for Improved Potato Varieties

O'Donnell, Catherine Elizabeth 02 February 2018 (has links)
The International Potato Center (CIP) and Peruvian National Agricultural Research Institute (INIA) have invested a substantial amount of resources towards the development of improved potato varieties in Peru. These varieties are adaptable to the agro-ecologies of the Andes and have specific biotic and abiotic attributes. These efforts have led to the release of several prominent varieties including Canchan-INIA, Amarilis, Unica, Serranita and others. A 2013 household survey conducted by CIP was used to describe the diffusion of improved potato varieties in Peru. These data were also used to identify specific constraints to their adoption and dis-adoption. The assessment focused on a two-step adoption model, adoption and dis-adoption, by utilizing a Heckman Probit model to demonstrate two-steps of the adoption process. The Heckman Probit model was used to analyze variables affecting adoption and dis-adoption of improved varieties. Results suggest that adoption is region specific, time dependent, and in some cases relies on informal transmission methods. Risk to food insecurity and recurrent natural phenomena affect adoption and sometimes dis-adoption. Additionally, factors affecting a farmer's exposure to risk, such as information constraints and household head age, wealth, and social network were found to affect the adoption and dis-adoption of improved varieties. / Master of Science / Improved potato varieties, engineered by the International Potato Center (CIP) and Peruvian National Agricultural Research Institute (INIA), are adapted to the agro-ecologies of the Andes and have specific biotic and abiotic attributes, such as late blight resistance. There are a number of prominent engineered varieties produced by CIP and INIA including Canchan-INIA, Amarilis, Unica, Serranita and others, which have the potential to increase the yields and incomes of highland potato farmers. The model was used to analyze variables affecting adoption and dis-adoption of improved varieties. Results suggest that adoption is region specific, time dependent, and in some cases relies on informal transmission methods. Farmers living in areas more prone to food insecurity and natural phenomena are less likely to adopt certain improved varieties and more likely to continue to adopt these varieties after initial adoption. Additionally, factors affecting a farmer’s exposure to risk, such as information constraints and household head age, wealth, and social network were found to affect the adoption and dis-adoption of improved varieties.

An integrated model for m-banking adoption in Saudi Arabia

Baabdullah, A.M., Alalwan, A.A., Rana, Nripendra P., Patil, P., Dwivedi, Y.K. 25 October 2019 (has links)
Yes / Purpose The purpose of this paper is to identify and examine the most important factors that could predict the Saudi customer’s continued intention towards adoption of mobile banking. Design/methodology/approach The proposed conceptual model was based on the technology acceptance model (TAM) and task-technology fit (TTF) model. This is also expanded by considering two additional factors: perceived privacy and perceived security. By using a self-administered questionnaire, the data were collected from a convenience sample of Saudi banking customers from different parts of Saudi Arabia. Findings The main results based on structural equation modelling analyses supported the impact of perceived privacy, perceived security, perceived usefulness and TTF on the customers’ continued intention to use mobile banking. Research limitations/implications The moderation influence of the demographic factors (i.e. age, gender, income level, educational level) was not tested. The data were also collected using a self-report questionnaire; however, it would be more accurate to utilise more statistics from the bank database about the users of m-banking. Originality/value This study represents a worthy attempt to test such novel technology (m-banking) in the KSA where there is a scarcity of literature. A considerable theoretical contribution was also made by integrating the TTF model with the TAM in addition to consider privacy and security in one single model. Moreover, considering both perceived privacy and security in the current model creates an accurate picture about the adoption of m-banking especially as there are a limited number of m-banking studies that have considered privacy and security alongside the TTF model and TAM in the same model.

Paquette, Lee An 10 February 2024 (has links)

Asselin, Anne-Julie 06 March 2024 (has links)
This master’s thesis deals with customary adoption, called fa’a’amu (nurturing, adopting, raising), among the Ma’ohi, who are indigenous to French Polynesia. French Polynesia is a French territory in Oceania. This ancestral custom of the circulation of children, which is found throughout Oceania, is part of a mode of social regulation which consists of entrusting your child to close relatives, who parent the child. It is based on an agreement between the adoptive parents and the biological parents, who generally keep ties with the child. If this practice changed with colonization - the archipelagos making up French Polynesia were colonized by France from 1842 - and the upheavals brought about by the establishment of the Pacific Experimentation Center (CEP), a nuclear center, in 1962, it is still widespread, although it remains unofficially recognized by both the French and French Polynesian states. While the population of Mā’ohi origin represents more than 80% of the population of this territory located 18,000 km from mainland France, the Civil Code, introduced in the 1860s, does not take this type of adoption into account, while parental authority and filiation are among the matters over which the State and French Polynesia share jurisdiction (Peres 2007). This thesis, therefore, describes the concrete issues raised by the practice of te fa’a’amu, when it is not subject to legal recognition. More particularly, the thesis is interested in understanding the transformations of the practice since colonization, and understanding challenges and issues pertinent to it, based on concrete cases of fa’a’amu children. The plurality of Polynesian adoption experiences shows certain cultural continuities in terms customs and practices, while for other constituent elements of fa’a’amu, the impact of the cohabitation of two legal regimes (one French, the other Polynesian) contributes to metamorphosis and an adaptation of these. In light of these cultural exchanges, some children who have been fa’a’amu find themselves in a situation where social service personnel must act to protect the best interests of the child. The intervention of these professionals shows, in certain cases, a cultural gap which manifests in a concrete way the double standard experienced by Polynesians, that is to say, to answer for the French world, while remaining Polynesian.
