Fabrication processes by chemical routes of textured Barium ferrite compacts for non reciprocal microwave devices / Méthodes de fabrication par voie chimique de ferrite de barium texturé pour dispositifs microondes non réciproques

Le, Cong Nha 11 July 2018 (has links)
Presently, there is a critical need for millimeter wave devices, among which are non-reciprocal devices such as isolators and circulators, which operate in the frequency range from about 30 GHz to 100 GHz.Permanent magnets that ensure the propagation of the wave in such devices are for long based on rare-earth elements. Nowadays, the escalation of rare earths cost encourages to look for alternative materials containing much less, or no, rare earth elements selected from the most common and most available. Alternatively, hard ferrites may show the required potential for integration into non-reciprocal microwave devices. Barium ferrite (BaM) is a wellknown, high-performance, permanent magnet material with a large magneto-crystalline anisotropy along the c-axis of its hexagonal structure. A suitable form of barium ferrite for mm-wave applications is a magnetically oriented bulk material.Several constraining processing techniques were therefore set up to perform the alignment and compaction of plate hexaferrite particles. In contrast to these methods, the present study demonstrates the feasibility of simple alternative ways to provide highly oriented bulk compacts made of BaM particles. In the present work efficient and inexpensive chemical processes (co-precipitation, dry mixing and wet mixing) are presented that produces highly oriented bulk compacts made of Barium hexaferrites (BaM) particles. Hysteresis loops that display very competitive squarenesses between 0.87 and 0.90 (normalized remanent magnetization) and coercivity as high as 303 kA/m are obtained. The sensitivity to demagnetizing effects is therfore reduced. These properties make these BaM bulk ferrite materials suitable for selfbiased applications at frequencies up to 55 GHz.

Combinações lineares de polinômios de Chebyshev e polinômios auto-recíprocos /

Hancco Suni, Mijael January 2019 (has links)
Abstract: The main objective of this work is to study the behavior of the zeros of some classes of self-reciprocal polynomials related to Chebyshev quasi-orthogonal polynomials of order one and two. The zeros of self-reciprocal polynomials are linked to the zeros of quasiorthogonal polynomials, which can be obtained from a sequence of orthogonal polynomials. In this work we use the Chebyshev polynomials to obtain classes of quasi-orthogonal polynomials and from results on the behavior of their zeros, we obtain information about the zeros of some classes of self-reciprocal polynomials. / Mestre

Triangulating a Sustainable Safety Culture in the Readymade Garment Industry of Bangladesh

Brooks, Maurice Len 01 January 2016 (has links)
Many obstacles still exist toward improving safety standards, practices, and culture in the ready-made garment (RMG) industry in Bangladesh. Workers' beliefs and habits, employers' level of involvement, and gaps in the regulatory framework necessitate an examination of safety practices to build a foundation for safety culture in the workplace. The focus of this study was to contribute to regulatory reform aimed at creating a safe work environment by exploring the perceptions of workers, employers, and government regulators through the lens of the theory on reciprocal determinism. A total of 41 participants, categorized into three groups of workers, employers, and government regulators, consented to face-to-face interviews. The study provided individual and group perspectives of requirements for safe factories and development of safety culture. Interview data were inductively coded and subjected to a thematic analysis procedure. The results showed the groups collectively prioritized the need for training, collaboration, health, and safety, and they raised concern over civil unrest. The groups differed on the importance placed in areas such as protection of workers, profit, and legal enforcement. The study results can serve to contribute to effective government reform by developing self-efficacy of workers and improve collaboration between workers, employers, and government in the RMG industry of Bangladesh.

Teaching reading comprehension to Thai EFL students: Reciprocal Teaching Procedure

Wisaijorn, Patareeya, n/a January 2003 (has links)
The main purpose of this study was to examine the effects of strategy training in small group work on the reading comprehension of academic texts in English by Thai English as a Foreign Language (EFL) students. The strategy-training used was the Reciprocal Teaching Procedure (RTF) which focused on the four reading comprehension strategies: predicting, clarifying, questioning and summarizing. The research study was an experimental one using a single group design. The participants were thirty-four first year students enrolled in the English for Academic Purposes (EAP) program at a tertiary institution in the northeastern part of Thailand. Both quantitative and qualitative research methods were used. The pre-, post- and follow-up reading tests were employed for quantitative analysis. The students' performances were analyzed for statistically significant differences immediately at the end of the ten-week training and in the follow-up test eight weeks after the training. Qualitative data were collected from students' pre-, post- and follow-up questionnaires, checklists and journals, teacher's checklists and journal, and independent observer's checklists and field notes.

Designing and Marketing Museum Offerings by Utilizing Consumer Knowledge : Research on Central Museums in Stockholm, Sweden

Witakowska, Weronika, Rönnblom, Ingrid January 2013 (has links)
The aim of this thesis is to examine how the central museums in Stockholm, Sweden, design and market their offerings by utilizing consumer knowledge. Current museum marketing research suggests that museums should be marketed as any organization; however, public museums are challenged by their mission to provide an offering that is framed by the state, and at the same time to attract visitors. Through semi-structured interviews with representatives from seven of the central museums in Stockholm, and a case study of a marketing campaign for an exhibition, information concerning the museums’ designing and marketing of offerings has been gathered. This information was analysed according to the theoretical framework which, building on co-creation of value theory, is an extended version of the DART-model to include word of mouth. The authors conclude that the museums are limited in their ability to adapt their offerings to consumer preferences due to their state given mission and a desire to be credible. Instead, online communication platforms are used to make the offerings available to more people and to market the offerings through the consumers’ online social networks.

Isaksson, Eva-Lena January 2013 (has links)
International reading comprehension studies, like PIRLS and PISA, state that the reading comprehension of Swedish students has decreased significantly since 2000. As a consequence, the National Agency of Education has made reading comprehension teaching a prioritised field in terms of further education for teachers. There has also been a change in Lgr 11, the national curriculum for compulsory school, where it is stated that teaching in reading strategies shall be a part of the central content throughout compulsory school. When the pupils reach upper secondary school level, reading comprehension education is no longer a part of the curriculum. Today, students at upper secondary school for individuals with learning disabilities currently share the same curriculum as the ordinary upper secondary school. As from July 1st 2013, the new upper secondary school for individuals with learning disabilities will start, and the new curricula for each subject for these school forms will be in use (National Agency of Education). The Swedish Schools Inspectorate and several reports indicate that there are deficiencies concerning too low challenges on individual level in the teaching of Swedish at upper secondary level for students with learning disabilities. The teaching is predominantly on individual level, causing lack of interaction between students. One main school objective is to prepare these students for an active participation in society. It is vital that students receive instructions when reading, in order to increase their reading comprehension. The basis of the study is a research based teaching program for reading comprehension teaching, called Reciprocal teaching (Palinscar and Brown 1984). The program has been modified and modernised with the aid of interactive media and the computer program Power Point. The aim of the study is to examine whether the reading comprehension and the motivation for reading are affected by the teaching program Reciprocal teaching. Method: Three 17-year-old students at upper secondary school for individuals with learning disabilities have participated in the study for four weeks. During the study, the students' participation and commitment were observed. The reading comprehension was tested before and after taking part of the program. Result: According to tests, the ability to decode a text has increased for all the students, which is an important factor for understanding a text. The commitment and motivation have increased and the students state that reading and talking about texts together was good. Interactive media with graphical support combined with structured questions from the teacher contributed to the students' increased commitment.

Reciprocal classes of Markov processes : an approach with duality formulae

Murr, Rüdiger January 2012 (has links)
This work is concerned with the characterization of certain classes of stochastic processes via duality formulae. In particular we consider reciprocal processes with jumps, a subject up to now neglected in the literature. In the first part we introduce a new formulation of a characterization of processes with independent increments. This characterization is based on a duality formula satisfied by processes with infinitely divisible increments, in particular Lévy processes, which is well known in Malliavin calculus. We obtain two new methods to prove this duality formula, which are not based on the chaos decomposition of the space of square-integrable function- als. One of these methods uses a formula of partial integration that characterizes infinitely divisible random vectors. In this context, our characterization is a generalization of Stein’s lemma for Gaussian random variables and Chen’s lemma for Poisson random variables. The generality of our approach permits us to derive a characterization of infinitely divisible random measures. The second part of this work focuses on the study of the reciprocal classes of Markov processes with and without jumps and their characterization. We start with a resume of already existing results concerning the reciprocal classes of Brownian diffusions as solutions of duality formulae. As a new contribution, we show that the duality formula satisfied by elements of the reciprocal class of a Brownian diffusion has a physical interpretation as a stochastic Newton equation of motion. Thus we are able to connect the results of characterizations via duality formulae with the theory of stochastic mechanics by our interpretation, and to stochastic optimal control theory by the mathematical approach. As an application we are able to prove an invariance property of the reciprocal class of a Brownian diffusion under time reversal. In the context of pure jump processes we derive the following new results. We describe the reciprocal classes of Markov counting processes, also called unit jump processes, and obtain a characterization of the associated reciprocal class via a duality formula. This formula contains as key terms a stochastic derivative, a compensated stochastic integral and an invariant of the reciprocal class. Moreover we present an interpretation of the characterization of a reciprocal class in the context of stochastic optimal control of unit jump processes. As a further application we show that the reciprocal class of a Markov counting process has an invariance property under time reversal. Some of these results are extendable to the setting of pure jump processes, that is, we admit different jump-sizes. In particular, we show that the reciprocal classes of Markov jump processes can be compared using reciprocal invariants. A characterization of the reciprocal class of compound Poisson processes via a duality formula is possible under the assumption that the jump-sizes of the process are incommensurable.

The reciprocal effects of fit, product attributes, ownership status and dominance of the parent brand on parent brand attitude:cases study of United Daily News and Appledaily.

Shih, Kai-yu 25 July 2005 (has links)
Many firms attempt to ensure the success of new product introductions by applying an existing, well-known brand name to the product. The strategy, known as brand extension, has become commomplace. In recent years, the strategy has been used in media industry. Especially, since the Internet started gaining in popularity in the mid-1990s, the newspaper industry has started applying brand extensions to online markets. For example, United Daily News, Chinatimes, and so on has developed websites of various types. However, we doubt whether it¡¦ll affect consumers¡¦ attitude toward the parent brand. For this reason, we attempt to figure out consumers¡¦attitude toward the newspaper brand when a newspaper office has introduced extensions with good or poor fit. Besides, in this study, we also propose that three factors including ownership status, product attributes, and dominance of the parent brand will influence consumers¡¦s evaluation of the parent brand. Previous research have provided mixed evidence about the reciprocal effects of a brand extension on its parent brand and rarely studied the impact of these four factors on parent brand evaluation, especially in media industy. As a result, we select United Daily News and Appledaily as two objects of the study and find out the extensions (websites) with good and poor fit of these two newspaper brands through group discussing. After T-test analysis, we have some findings as follows: 1.There¡¦s no significant effect of fit on parent brand attitude toward United Daily News, but there¡¦s significant difference for Appledaily. 2.The consumers who think of the newspaper brand as more dominant have higher evaluation of attitude toward the parent brand than those who think of the newspaper brand as less dominant, whether extensions with good or poor fit introduced. 3.The owners of newspaper brands have higher evaluation of attitude toward the parent brand than nonowners, whether extensions with good or poor fit introduced. 4.The product attributes of newspapers brands will affect consumers¡¦s attitude toward the newspaper brands.

A journalistic chasm? normative perceptions and participatory and gatekeeping roles of organizational and entrepreneurial health journalists

Holton, Avery 30 January 2014 (has links)
An emerging body of media scholarship has examined the changing norms and routines of professional journalists, suggesting they are slowly adapting their practice to meet changes in audience expectations brought on by the widespread adoption of social media. Much of this scholarship has focused on traditional news producers, giving attention to journalists and other news producers who work in newsrooms. However slowly, journalists are beginning to welcome more audience participation in the process of news creation, hinting at a more reciprocal form of journalism and a loosening of traditional gatekeeping practices. In an effort to advance the theoretically conceptual research of the moment, this study considers how the perceived journalistic norms and participatory and gatekeeping roles of an emerging journalistic actor may be aligning with and/or deviating from more traditional journalists. The work of entrepreneurial journalists, or those who are not affiliated with or tied to a single news organization but instead freelance their work, is helping to fill major content gaps left by staff cutbacks that came on the heels of news media’s economic downturn. Most notably, specialized areas of journalism such as health reporting are increasingly calling upon entrepreneurial journalists to work aside more traditional journalists. Against the backdrop of health journalism, this study advances by employing semi-structured interviews with traditional journalists, entrepreneurial journalists, and their editors, analyzing recent changes in their journalistic norms and participatory and gatekeeping roles. The findings suggest an ideological split between organizational and entrepreneurial journalists and indicate that organizational journalists and editors alike may be relying on entrepreneurial journalists as innovators. For their part, entrepreneurial journalists may demonstrating an extension of participatory journalism—reciprocal journalism—that could enhance network connectivity and community building for journalists, news organizations, and other mass media practitioners. Though traditionally perceived as outsiders, these journalists may be serving as intrapreneurials, informing innovation in journalism and beyond. The impact of this and other observations on mass communication theory and practice are explored. / text
