High-speed configurable analog block design for a field-programmable analog arrayHolmes, Stephen Michael 06 1900 (has links)
This thesis is an exploration into the design of configurable analog block (CAB) for field programmable analog arrays (FPAAs) designed in modern complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS) technologies. Specifically, this thesis develops a single configurable analog block (CAB) using an operational transconductance amplifier (OTA). A fully differential OTA is selected for its flexibility and the reliability of differential signals with respect to noise when compared to single-ended signals. The OTA is combined with a set of switches, controlled by a serial shift register, to allow for reconfiguration of the internal wiring, and two capacitor arrays used to fine-tune the frequency response of the circuit. Simulation results are provided for an OTA, the OTA operating in situ, and a band-pass filter, thus demonstrating the use of the CAB. A single CAB is constructed on a 0.13 µm CMOS chip. / Integrated Circuits and Systems

Effects of Frame Design and Cab Suspension on the Ride Quality of Heavy TrucksPatricio, Paul Stephen 17 December 2003 (has links)
Frame and cab suspension designs of Class 8 heavy trucks were investigated to see their effects on ride comfort. Four trucks were used in this study, each with a different frame: a factory low frame, a lightweight low frame, a factory high frame, and a lightweight high frame. There were two different frame heights and three thicknesses. Two different rear cab suspensions were also tried out on each truck. Both suspensions used two airsprings and two dampers mounted vertically to control the vertical motion. The first suspension used two horizontally mounted dampers to control the lateral motion, while the second used a panhard rod connected to a torsion spring. In addition, two different sets of airsprings and two sets of vertical shocks were tried with each suspension, giving eight suspension combinations.
The trucks were shaken through the forward drive (second) axle using two 5500 lb hydraulic actuators with displacement control. The steering (first) axle was left in contact with the ground (through the tires) and the rear drive (third) axle was strapped to the truck's frame and acted solely as dead weight. The actuators were given various inputs including single frequency sinusoidal signals, step signals, and decreasing amplitude chirp signals. Both roll and heave modes of the truck were excited.
The ride was measured using three accelerometers located at the B-post inside the truck cab. These accelerometers were oriented in the vertical, fore/aft (longitudinal), and lateral (left/right) directions. Numerous other accelerometers and LVDTs were used to measure frame and cab motion.
This study found that there while the beaming frequency shifted downward with the lighter frames, there was only a small decrease in ride quality. The panhard suspension rod had significantly higher roll motion, but the heave amplitudes were similar to the lateral damper suspension. Switching vertical shocks had a significant effect on heave motion, but none on the cab's roll. Switching the airsprings on the cab suspension in this study had no effect. / Master of Science

Agricultural Systems in Babati : Zea mays and its alternativesThompson, Iris Lee January 2009 (has links)

This paper aims to give an understanding on the aspects that influences the choice of cropsand agricultural methods in Babati, Tanzania. Drought is a reoccurring problem in this part ofTanzania, which affects a majority of the towns’ farmers. This fact is likely to affect thechoice of crop as well as the limitations when it comes to the choices in cultivation. But thechoice itself has implications on its surrounding and can be affected by the surrounding. Tounderstand the circumstances, a wider picture will be depicted and an evaluation of thegeography of Babati and on its climate conditions. The results from this study suggest thatlack of crop rotation pose as a problem that should be studied. Furthermore, green manurefrom legumes and plants like Tithonia could be a less expensive alternative but can stillfunction as an effective fertilizer. Concerning the drought issue the study can not concludethat drought resistant crops would have any big improving effects. Nevertheless there is someevidence advocating that it could be apart of the solution in terms of avoiding some of thenegative effects brought on by drought.

Traditionella taxibolag vs Nya generationers taxibolag : Analys av taximarknaden i StockholmTzegai, Mathews, Jarwalli, San January 2018 (has links)
The taxi market has recently gotten new competition from innovative companies that have managed to reduce the prices of cab transport so much that they are now a serious contender in the global market. Some of these new companies include Uber and Heetch which are now competing in the taxi market of Stockholm, Sweden. This upcoming thesis includes mapping of the new modern taxi market in the Stockholm region with a big focus on traditional cab companies (multi-cap enterprises) and modern innovative platform-based cap companies (non-cab enterprises). The focal point is on Taxi Stockholm 15 00 00 AB which is the leading competitor in Stockholm, with focus on Uber and Heetch as well. What can traditional cab companies do so that they can better compete with new platform-based cab companies which have big cost and pricing advantages and what can they do to become powerful competitors and subsequently gain market shares? Modern non-cab companies need to respect the laws and regulations of the markets that they compete in which differs depending on which country they operate in. They also need to improve the working conditions for their drivers and be more environmentally oriented. This will show that they take responsibility and are high calibre enterprises that take their societal responsibilities and duties seriously. Traditional cab companies and multi-cab companies need to invest resources and R&D into innovation, so that they can follow the technological development and the digitalization of the taxi market. Lowering their prices and cost is also important so that they can utilize better prices towards their customers, otherwise they would need to have many caps available to have big availability. Multi cap companies have good opportunities to utilize companies and big enterprises as their customers and government orders, this will in turn make them more competitive in the new era of Taxi businesses. The purpose of this comprehensive study is to research and compel the taxi market of Stockholm to discover and learn how the traditional multi-cap companies can handle the influence of the new innovative modern taxi companies. The study includes interviews, collection of data and observations of Taxi Stockholm 15 00 00 AB and the utilization of secondary sources to gain information about the new competitors and their strengths and weaknesses. A big part of secondary sources is also from scientific articles and course literature. The study is based on a case study and some exploratory research methods in order to identify the mission and goal of this study. The interviews were done in a semi structured manner which was done with the CEO and the rest of the department executives, to be able to map their company in alignment with the rest of the competition in Stockholm including new innovative companies (non-cab) and traditional multi-cab companies.

Experimentally-Based Analytical Prediction of Structural VibrationDhruna, Chetan J. 08 December 1997 (has links)
This study evaluates the vibration isolation effect of various mounting systems in a heavy freight locomotive cab, and provides an analytical method for the prediction of structural vibration. The cab is set up in a controlled laboratory environment in a manner similar to the installation on a locomotive. Field measurements are used to emulate actual vibration input to the cab structure. A 16-channel data acquisition system is used to collect vibration data at various points on and inside the cab structure.
The cab was isolated from the sill structure through six elastomeric mounts fixed at the base of the cab and at the crash posts. The mounts at the base were selected such that they support the static weight of the cab and offer good lateral and longitudinal stability. Two cylindrical elastomeric mounts were placed between the cab structure and the crash posts which attach to the front of the sill structure.
Upon establishing the baseline for laboratory vibration measurements and correlating them with field data, acceleration data was collected at discrete locations, both inside and outside of the cab. The data was used in conjunction with an analytical formulation to generate vibration approximations of the discrete locations. To validate the analytical approximations, experimental results were compared with the analytical predictions using simulated field input to the cab
The test results from the analytical model approximations proved to have a strong correlation with experimental results. Vibration approximations of locations outside the cab had a higher correlation to the experimental data than the points on the inside. Although the model did not yield exact results for several positions inside the cab, it resulted in several recommendations for future work. / Master of Science
