A nova síntese neoclássica frente à crise econômica mundial = a volta da política fiscal? / The new neoclassical synthesis in the light of the world economic crisis : the return of fiscal policy?

Santos, Flavio Arantes dos, 1984- 19 August 2018 (has links)

This thesis examines the convergence mainstream macroeconomics thought experienced in the last two decades. New Classicals and New Keynesians have been sharing the same theoretical assumptions and proposing the same kind of economic policy in a consensus which has been called New Neoclassical Synthesis or New Macroeconomics Consensus. The main characteristic of the New Consensus is the execution of monetary policy, by adjusting the benchmark interest rate, as the only macroeconomic policy tool. In this process, fiscal policy is set aside, concerned only with keeping public debt in a stable path to ensure the "economic fundamentals", but with no active role on macroeconomic adjustment policy. However, with 2008 global economic crisis, fiscal policy comes back to the mainstream policy and academic debates. Therefore, this thesis also examines in which sense the crisis presents a change in the prevailing macroeconomic thought with respect to fiscal policy / Mestrado / Ciências Economicas / Mestre em Ciências Econômicas

This paper aims to analyze the contract of communication between the Nova Escola magazine and its public addressee, which is composed substantially of teachers. Reports concerning reading published in Nova Escola magazine – considering the time between 2010 and 2014 – will constitute the corpus of this exposition. The assumptions of the Semiolinguistic Theory of Discourse Analysis are the mainly guideline of this study. Some features of educational periodicals resemble them to others magazines, however in order to maintain their rank in the market, some of these periodicals tend to overlap media resources to pedagogical issues. The Nova Escola magazine does not hold appropriate characteristics to educational magazines, furthermore it does not reveal its political-pedagogical position regarding reading.

BERNADETE DE LOURDES STREISKY STANG 21 October 2008 (has links)
[en] At the end of the1920s and in the decades of 1930s, many important battles were taking place in Brazil. Not only did the politic field go through a structural reorganization process, education also became target of public interest which led to heated debates. Our educators - who were intellectuals from diverse fields in those periods - they took upon themselves the responsibility of leading the discussion about the modern, the new, the necessary and they positioned themselves according to their convictions, to divulge and to defend better their way of thinking about education and its role in the society. Two groups stood out in this process: Catholics and Pioneers. Both believed in education as a regenerating element and as of fundamental importance in the construction of a national identity and both elected the printed matter as a place for debate to defend their premises founded by New School philosophy. The intellectuals qualified as Catholics constituted a complex and heterogeneous group, united by common ideas. In this perspective, this work aims at understand how these intellectuals appropriated the new educational doctrine within their faith modes and how they translated in their discourse their view of the world and the educational model they defended, perceiving which were the resemblances and nuances among their members and how they appear in pedagogical debate published in their magazines.

Nové formy reportážní zprávy v televizním zpravodajství / New Forms of Reporting in the TV News

Lukašiková, Evženie January 2017 (has links)
Following thesis deals with the question of how the four main television channels in the Czech Republic process and create news. Based on her own observation, the author has tried to find and describe the main tendencies in the field of the television news reporting. The thesis thus gives a general overview of the newsmaking routine according to the specialized literature, but also provides the reader with the results of those observations. The work consists of two parts: the theoretical and practical. The first part starts with the basic components of the news reporting, followed by a more detailed description of the television part. The last part of the theory includes the development trends in the television news and deals with the visual and audial components of the news as well as the role of the reporter in it. The latter includes the verbal as well as non-verbal communication, i.e. linguistics of the news and means of expression of the reporters and news anchors as well as the importance of the reporter and the part he plays in the news. The practical part analyzes given pieces of news, using the information provided in the previous part; the analysis is thus based on the above stated criteria. These analyses should then help to describe the way television works with the news and...

We Hear the Whistle Call: The Second World War in Glace Bay, Cape Breton

MacGillivray, Shannon A. January 2012 (has links)
Many historians have presented the narrative of Canada’s Second World War experience as a “good” war. Individuals and communities came together in patriotism and a common purpose to furnish the national war effort with military manpower, labour, financial contributions, and voluntary efforts. As the dark years of the Great Depression gave way to unprecedented levels of industrial and economic growth, falling unemployment rates, increased urbanization, and a wealth of social programs, Canada’s future was bright. However, this optimistic picture is not representative of Canada as a whole. Some regions fared better than others, and industrial Cape Breton was one of those that benefited the least from the opportunities presented by the war. Glace Bay, Cape Breton’s largest mining town and long-time hotbed of industrial strife and labour radicalism, serves as an ideal case study of the region’s largely unprofitable and unchanging wartime experience. Long plagued by poverty, poor living conditions, and underdeveloped industry, and desperately seeking to break free of its destitution, Glace Bay tried and failed to take advantage of wartime opportunities for industrial diversification and local improvement.

The British Empire in the Atlantic: Nova Scotia, the Board of Trade, and the Evolution of Imperial Rule in the Mid-Eighteenth Century

Hully, Thomas R January 2012 (has links)
Despite considerable research on the British North American colonies and their political relationship with Britain before 1776, little is known about the administration of Nova Scotia from the perspective of Lord Halifax’s Board of Trade in London. The image that emerges from the literature is that Nova Scotia was of marginal importance to British officials, who neglected its administration. This study reintegrates Nova Scotia into the British Imperial historiography through the study of the “official mind,” to challenge this theory of neglect on three fronts: 1) civil government in Nova Scotia became an important issue during the War of the Austrian Succession; 2) The form of civil government created there after 1749 was an experiment in centralized colonial administration; 3) This experimental model of government was highly effective. This study adds nuance to our understanding of British attempts to centralize control over their overseas colonies before the American Revolution.

The public hearing process : public participation in municipal planning : a case study of the Terra Nova lands decision, Richmond, B.C.

Callow, Kathleen Ann January 1990 (has links)
This thesis is a case study of the Terra Nova lands decision in the Township of Richmond, B.C. which analyses the use of public hearings as a means of public participation in the municipal rezoning aspect of the planning process. A literature review of democratic theories indicated that there is no single accepted theory of democracy or the role of public participation within a democratic society. Classical democratic theory, likened to participatory democracy, outlines the need for widespread public participation in the decision-making process while contemporary democratic theorists critize this as unrealistic in a modern society. Instead, contemporary theorists stress that the role of the public is to create an elected representative government that will decide issues on their behalf. Representative democracy is described according to four principles including: popular control, political equality, effective choice, and majority rule. Public participation in the planning process represents a movement along the democratic continuum from participatory to representative democracy towards a more participatory form of governing. Although the public hearing process has traditionally been viewed as a legitimate means to involve the public in the planning process, it is increasingly being questionned as appropriate. The Terra Nova rezoning public hearings were analysed using the evaluative framework of Glasser, Manty, and Nehman based on six communication characteristics and six participation objectives. The data was collected from the results of interviews with twelve key participants using a pre-designed questionnaire. It was concluded that the Terra Nova public hearing process was inherently flawed in its attempt to provide meaningful public participation in the municipal planning process and also that preceptual differences among the participants accounted for their dissatisfaction with the public hearing process. It was also concluded that the Terra Nova public hearings must be viewed in an historical and political context which indicated that the decision to develop the Terra Nova lands had been made prior to the rezoning hearings with the adoption of the Official Community Plan and that the municipal council members were firmly split along political lines in favour of and opposed to development on the Terra Nova lands. The analysis, however, did not provide a conclusive answer regarding the appropriateness of the public hearings as a means for public participation in the planning process. The answer to this question rests on an individual's position on the continuum of democracy between representation and participation. Nevertheless, recommendations can be made to enhance or supplement the public hearing process to overcome the inherent flaws and perceptual differences thus moving public participation in the municipal planning process closer to participatory democracy. These suggestions include local area planning initiatives and the use of an independent, non-political, rezoning commission. / Applied Science, Faculty of / Community and Regional Planning (SCARP), School of / Graduate
