Market Orientation as a Branding Strategy

Mellenius, Harriet January 2008 (has links)
This paper studies the impact of market orientation strategy on brand awareness. Zara, a Spanish leading fashion retailer and an example of a brand using this strategy, is compared to three other multinational brands operating in Stockholm, Sweden, namely Topshop, Mango and United Colours of Benetton. The latter brands are known to use advertising to create brand awareness. Fashion magazine attention was used as a measure of brand awareness. Data on the brand awareness was gathered by browsing three leading Swedish fashion magazines – Elle, Glamour and Damernas Värld – and the fashion section of the biggest Swedish tabloid, Aftonbladet. It was found that market orientation can compete with advertising as a marketing strategy to create brand awareness, but only in part of the market segment. This was concluded from the fact that Zara was featured in some of the magazines, but not all of them.

Vad är Protean career orientation och kan detta predicera kompetensutveckling?

Landström, Nanna January 2008 (has links)

An Examination of Sex, Ethnicity, and Sexual Orientation in Experiences and Consequences of Workplace Incivility

Zurbrugg, Lauren Elders 2011 August 1900 (has links)
Theories of intersectionality and selective incivility framed this study of interactions between sex, ethnicity, and sexual orientation, and their relationship with incivility and psychological and occupational outcomes. Women, sexual minorities, and people of color were expected to report both the greatest levels of incivility as well as the worst outcomes as a result of receiving incivility. Specifically, sexual minority women of color were predicted to be the most vulnerable to experiencing the highest levels of incivility and to experience the worst outcomes as a result of incivility. Survey data was first collected from a southern United States student sample. Results revealed that sexual minorities reported the most frequent experiences of workplace incivility. In terms of outcomes, sex and sexual orientation interacted with incivility to predict psychological stress and organizational commitment, with sexual minority men evidencing the worst outcomes. To determine the generalizability of the results of Study 1, a second survey was conducted utilizing a United States law school faculty sample. Results from Study 2 revealed that sexual minority women reported significantly higher levels of incivility than members of other groups. Additionally, sexual orientation and ethnicity interacted with incivility to predict job satisfaction and commitment, with sexual minority people of color reporting the worst outcomes. Finally, sex and ethnicity interacted with incivility to predict psychological distress, burnout, job satisfaction, and turnover intentions, with men of color indicating the worst outcomes as a result of incivility.

Educational Future Orientation of Middle School Latino Students

Romero, Alonso 17 May 2013 (has links)
The lack of educational attainment among Latino youth, as evidenced by high school dropout rates, is a growing and costly problem that affects not only Latinos but society as a whole. Using a sample of 139 middle school Latino students, primarily of Mexican descendant, the current study used cluster analysis to identify a typology of students based on their educational aspirations, expectations, and perceived academic competence. Three distinct profiles emerged: a college-bound-congruent group with college aspirations and similar college expectations, and high academic confidence; a college-bound-incongruent group with college aspirations but vocational expectations, and medium academic confidence; and a vocational-bound congruent group with vocational or technical school aspirations and similar expectations, and low academic confidence. Students’ relationship with teachers was a factor that helped differentiate students across the different profiles. Relationships with parents and peers were not. Students’ gender, immigration status, and ethnic identity did not contribute to the differences in profiles. The findings suggest that future educational profiles of middle school Latino students are an important component of a comprehensive “early warning system” that could help identify students who may be at risk of dropping out school.

How to Perform Market Orientation in New Product Development

Hu, Hao, Xu, Chenke January 2011 (has links)
In  turbulent  environments,  the  infused  marketing  function  has  become  an  essential and natural part in the firms’ new product development (NPD). Some scholars define NPD as the transformation of a market opportunity into a product  as a result of the coupling of market assumptions with technological possibilities. The purpose of this thesis is to explore the role of market orientation in NPD, with the specific focus on how market orientation is carried out in NPD and how it affects NPD. This study is built  on  a  conceptual  framework  and  a  tool,  both  are  formed  from  literature.  The authors use the case study to conduct this research, and one company’s (Tylö’s) data is  gathered  through  the  semi-structured  interview.  Some  findings  are  obtained  from analysis: Firstly, market orientation contains two approaches, one is the market-driven approach and the other is the driving-market one, and firm could choose one of them according  to  the  new  product  features.  Secondly,  there  are  four  areas  in  market orientation, for each approach, the specific content in each area is different. Thirdly, the    four    areas    are    identifying    customers’    needs,    collecting    information, inter-functional  coordination  and  taking  action  and  they  move  on  sequentially.  In addition, two crucial factors-time and cost should be paid much attention in NPD.

Orientation Estimation and Sensor Motion Tracking: An IMM Algorithm-Based Filter Design

Gao, Jian-hau 02 August 2010 (has links)
In the thesis, we present the structures of interacting multiple model (IMM) algorithm-based filter design for real-time motion orientation estimation and tracking by using inertial sensor measurements in three-dimensional space. The major sensor such as gyroscope, though has high-sensitivity characteristics, suffers from bias build-up and error drift over time. The complementary sensors such as accelerometer and magnetometer, on the other hand, have low sensitivity, but do not suffer from bias problems. By using individual inertial and magnetic sensors, measurements of multiple modes can be interactively computed. The IMM based designs show the advantages of weighting individual sensors in different motion states. We propose a signal processing architecture based on the IMM algorithm. It is composed of three parallel Kalman filters (KFs), each deals with measured signals from accelerometer, magnetometer and gyroscope, respectively. The accelerometer cannot effectively sense the rotation around the vertical axis; while the magnetometer can only sense the rotation around vertical axis. Therefore, estimation accuracy with the parallel filtering arrangement of the IMM algorithm-based structure may be affected. A scheme using the residual signal, which is computed in the IMM, provides the information of gyroscope-based KF to the other two filters for feasible calculation of update weights. Related research also usually combined the information of major and complementary sensors in estimator designs. In the literature, existing ¡§Triad¡¨ methods with quaternion-based extended Kalman filter (EKF), process the measurements from major and complementary sensors. To compensate the functions, we propose to use a gyroscope-based EKF and a Triad EKF in forming a parallel multiple model-based structure. The analysis and performance evaluation shows advantages and disadvantages of using EKFs and KFs in IMM-based filtering approachs. Simulation results validate the proposed estimator design concept, and show that the scheme is capable of reducing the overall estimation errors by flexible computation of model weights.

A study of the interfaces between Au5Sn and Au

Jiang, Bo-Han 01 July 2011 (has links)
The orientation relationship and interfaces of Au5Sn with the Au (001), (110) and (111) surfaces have been studied with transmission electron microscopy. Au was evaporated onto the NaCl (001), (110) and (111) surfaces to form epitaxial Au thin films and Sn was evaporated onto the Au film and heat treated to form Au5Sn. Two types of orientation relationships were found: (1) (2-1-10)Au5Sn/(001)Au¡A(0006)Au5Sn //(-220)Au and (03-30)Au5Sn//(220)Au, which was found on the (2-1-10)Au5Sn/(001)Au interface; and (2) (2-1-10)Au5Sn/(-111)Au¡A(0006)Au5Sn //(-22-4)Au and (03-30)Au5Sn//(220)Au, which was found on the (2-1-10)Au5Sn/(-111)Au interface. The structures of the interfaces were analyzed. The free energy formation of AuSn is much larger than that of Au5Sn.Analysis of above results show that the differences of the interfacial energies between AuSn/Au and Au5Sn/Au may not be a significant. Therefore probably has a lower activation energy of AuSn nucleation and in the first plane to form at the AuSn interface.
