Diskriminering på arbetsplatsen baserad på arbetstagarens vikt. : En psykologisk studie

Quist, Charlotte January 2009 (has links)
The aim of this study was to examine the relationship between salary and weight and social isolation and weight for prison officers and to see if extraversion, gender and age had any influence on these. The instrument that was used was a partly self-designed questionnaire with 22 of Eysenck´s questions about extraversion (Eysenck &  Eysenck, 1975).  Questions were designed to measure the feeling of social isolation and physical condition, questions were asked about wages, weight and age to see if there were any significant relationship between these factors. The  people who worked in  treatment of offenders (N=48) were part of this study, 21 women and 27 men with a mean age of 42,91 years (<em>std</em>=12,46). This study was done on the basis of different studies that show a significant relationship between salary and weight, weight and extraversion and weight and the feeling of social isolation, and that larger people are stereotypically viewed negatively. The findings in this study however show something else than the other studies show concerning salary and weight; it was no significant relationship  between these variables. Between weight and the feeling of social isolation however, a negative significant relationship was found. This can indicate that it doesn´t  have to be negative to be large bodied when working with prisoners but maybe it is seen as an asset in the daily intervention with the inmates.</p><p><em>Keywords: Extraversion, social isolation, stereotyping, overweight, discrimination.</em></p>

Peralta, Vivian Unknown Date (has links)
有機餐食配送公司之商業計畫 / The Organic Food Industry worldwide is at its growing stage, farmers already discovered the advantages of becoming certified organic producers and consumers are starting to value the importance of consuming organically produced food. In Honduras, the industry is still at its embryonic stage since few farmers are able to invest time and money to obtain certification and demand is still low due to the lack of knowledge of a large number of consumers. However, there is opportunity to introduce the organic food consumption trend in Honduras which could help fight nutrition problems, such as overweight and obesity, which affect certain segments of the population. In order to analyze the feasibility of the organic diet delivery company this document presents data of the organic food market worldwide as well as information of the organic food supply and demand in Honduras. Healthy Diet Company is introduced and a business strategy is developed in order to enhance the strengths and work on fighting possible threats in that industry. A marketing strategy is also presented to ensure the correct introduction of the organic food diets to the target market to make the business successful. Finally, the Business model of the Organic diet delivery company is presented which provides the key factors needed for its success.

Andersson, Frida, Levin, Cecilia January 2015 (has links)
Background: Overweight in children is a growing problem around the world. Studies has shown that children suffering from overweight, are at a greater risk to remain overweight as adults as well. Child health care nurses have an important task by trying to motivate parents to better diet and exercise habits for their children. Previous research proves that overweight and obesity in children is a very complex problem which requires a good caring relationship between child health care nurses and parents. Purpose: The purpose of the study was to illuminate the experiences of child health care nurses of meeting parents of overweight children. Method: An inductive qualitative approach was used as method. The collection of data was conducted by using semi-structured interviews. Seven child health care nurses participated. A qualitative manifest content analysis was used as the method of analysis. Result: The result was described in three main categories. The child health care nurse way of approach described how the attitudes, mind-set and treatment affected the meeting with the parents. Impeding factors in the meeting described that the attitudes of the parents, their approach and cultural-and social differences could be impeding in the meeting. Strategies to increase the motivation and knowledge of the parents illuminated that process thinking and an informative and preventive work could be favorable in the meeting. The child health care nurses also described different useful tools that could increase the motivation and knowledge of the parents. Conclusion: The child health care nurses way of approach has a great importance when it comes to motivating the parents to encourage the future health of their overweight children. Today's society is getting increasingly more multicultural and the cultural competence of the child health care nurses should therefore be supported. The work of the child health care nurses is characterized by a process thinking where time is considered as a determinant factor. Ultimately, the child health care nurses work with meeting parents of overweight children can be considered difficult but highly important. Resultat: Resultatet beskrevs i tre huvudkategorier.

Trajectories, predictors, and adolescent health outcomes of childhood weight gain : a growth mixture model

Bichteler, Anne 10 February 2015 (has links)
Obesity, as defined as BMI at or above the 95th percentile on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s growth charts, has increased almost 3-fold among children in the United States since 1980. Overweight in adolescence has been associated with increased fat retention and high blood pressure in adulthood, among other symptoms of metabolic syndrome. However, normative patterns of weight change in childhood have not been developed. Groups of children may follow different trajectory patterns of BMI change over time. If common trajectory patterns could be identified, and their risk factors and outcomes understood, more nuanced intervention with families and children at risk for obesity could be developed. This study used a national dataset of 1,364 children whose weight and length was measured 12 times from birth through 15 ½ years. Testing both latent class growth analysis and growth mixture modeling identified four distinct subgroups, or classes, of BMI growth trajectory from 24 months – 8th grade. These classes were compared on numerous demographic, biological, and psychosocial risk factors identified in previous research as related to obesity. Classes were differentiated primarily on the child’s BMI at 15 months, the mother’s BMI at 15 months, birth weight for age, and percent increase in birth weight. Being male, Black, and lower SES were also related to membership in the higher-BMI trajectory classes. Of the psychosocial factors, maternal sensitivity, maternal depression, and attachment classification were also related to BMI class. Membership in these trajectories strongly predicted weight-related and blood-pressure outcomes at 15 ½ years over and above individual risk factors, demonstrating that patterns of change themselves are highly influential. The best-fitting models of weight-related outcomes at 15 ½ years included change trajectory in combination with biological, psychosocial, and SES risk factors from 0-24 months, with R² ranging from .31 = .50. Characteristics predicting adolescent overweight can be identified in the first years of life and should trigger the development and implementation of early intervention protocols in obstetrics and pediatrics. / text
