Previous issue date: 2013-10-17 / The history of sports competition has been related to the use of methods for physical training associated with physiological methods to increase athlete performance. Ethical issues involving the high performance sport and doping are confused with the history of competitive sports. The World Anti - Doping Agency (WADA) prohibits the use of substances or methods to artificially increase sports performance. Currently, 258 substances are listed by WADA and athletes around the world are subjected to tests proving the non-use of doping. EPO is a glycoprotein hormone that has as its main physiological effect induction of erythropoiesis and thereby improving the capacity to transport oxygen in the blood. For these reason EPO has been included in WADA list. The analytical differentiation of endogenous erythropoietin from its recombinant counterpart, using isoelectric focusing and double blotting is a milestone in the detection of doping with recombinant erythropoietin. However, several analogs of the original recombinant EPO are not easily detectable by standard IEF method, requiring the development of alternatives for the detection of doping. In order to improve the current methods of EPO detection, monoclonal and polyclonal antibodies against EPO were obtained and used in various techniques for detection of EPO in biological samples. However, the specificity of these antibodies has been quite controversial and discussed. Therefore, it is necessary to obtain antibodies capable of reacting specifically with the EPO. In this study, rHuEPO was inoculated in New Zealand rabbits to generate a polyclonal antibody (pAb anti-rHuEPO). The pAb was characterized for its potential in detecting rHuEPO using different approaches. The pAb anti- rHuEPO identified the expression of recombinant protein in eukaryotic cells and was able to detect rHuEPO in a suspension at 0.1 μg/mL, showing its potential as a tool for detection of doping by rHuEPO.

Francis Picabia (1879 – 1953), well-known French painter of the beginning of the twentieth century, was also an experimentalist poet of the avant-garde milieu, who wrote throughout his entire life. Part of his writings have been edited, but many unpublished works can still be found in archives. The Dada period of his poetry is perhaps best known, more particularly for his drawing-poems, but I have discovered during my research that his late writings contain many unrevealed aspects. Particularly after he met the editor Pierre André Benoit (PAB) in 1948, a new important period began in Picabia’s poetic output, during which he published his writings from 1939 to 1951. This intense collaboration took place mainly at a distance, through the exchange of frequent letters, soon turning into a sincere friendship. These publications, most of which are one-of-a-kind books, are printed personally by PAB on his printing press, and are often illustrated by the artist or by the editor himself.Surprisingly, Picabia’s late poetry is strongly marked by Friedrich Nietzsche’s writings, in particular by The Gay Science (1882). The “borrowings” are so evident, that they call for a specific, new interpretation: thus, this peculiar creative process can be seen as a phenomenon of appropriation, or “intertextual rewriting”. This process of “copying”, was applied by the artist indistinctively to his art and poetry and can function as a possible solutionfor the classification of his controversial poems.

Abstract: Taking into account the reality of impoverishment and social exclusion, together with the increasing of unemployment and with the diminishing of wage earning, it is imposed to the Brazilian State the challenge to promote the social inclusion and, consequently, reduce poverty. It is in this scenario that it is observed the attempt by the Federal Government to face such a socioeconomic reality when, from the Nineties, it adopts the ideology of Enterprising as institutional strategy. Aiming for making certain productive sectors more dynamic, and so minimize poverty, they begin to encourage the opening of micro and small businesses, stimulating autonomous (self governing) work. An example of this attempt is the intention of the Federal Government, in the Nineties, of transforming the artisans into businessmen. The present research work deals with public policies, mainly that one aimed for stimulating craftsmanship production - "Brazilian Craftsmanship Program" (Programa do Artesanato Brasileiro (PAB) established in 1991. What is made in the present work is the analysis of such program from its conception, institutionality and implementation according to the theoretical contribution of Rothstein. It is taken as empirical evidence the execution of PAB in Piauí, the ceramic craftsmanship activity developed in Poty Velho district in the North Zone of Teresina, the capital of the State.

Our study aims to understand the obstacles encountered by PAB during the COVID-19 crisis and how these influenced their work retention in Montreal's CHSLDs from February 23 to July 11, 2020. Three (3) categories of PAB were selected according to a snowball sampling. An interview guide based on the Tourangeau et al. model (2010) and the work-life balance model proposed by Duxbury and Higgins (2003) was used to collect data through semi-structured interviews conducted between October and December 2021. A thematic analysis was performed using the method suggested by Braun and Clarke (2006). The results of our study show that the intention to leave the job during the period concerned was influenced not only by the vicious circle of service breakdown involving overexploitation of the PAB, physical and psychological pressures, burnout at work, acute stress added to negative emotions. In addition to this, poor working conditions, ethical issues specific to the COVID-19 pandemic, but also the lack of recognition and valuing of the PAB profession at the time of the summit of the workforce shortage and the challenges of reconciling work and family life have enormously contributed to the resignation from the work of some of them. On the other hand, the intention to remain employed was more influenced by individual factors such as voluntarism, moral satisfaction and emotional attachment to the job and contextual factors such as the perceived support of the organization and the Quebec government. The CHSLD network, initially weakened by the labour shortage and the precariousness of PAB jobs was further deteriorated by the COVID-19 crisis, which increased the demand for PAB. The improvement of the retention policies for PAB requires a more rigorous selection process that considers the candidates' motivations for the job, a modification of the working conditions, and a better promotion of the PAB job.

Bach pack : independent energy solution : a written component completed in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Masters of Design at Massey University, College of Creative Arts, Wellington, New ZealandBowie, Charlotte January 2010 (has links)
Atelierworkshop is an innovative Wellington based architectural practice that has advanced into the area of off- site manufacture of container-based housing solutions. Their product, the Port-a-Bach (PAB) is moving into its second generation (PAB Gen-2). This product development initiative has resulted in a range of projects that have been undertaken to improve off-the-grid energy systems, water supply and storage, packaging, transportation and cost reduction. This particular project documents the design and development of an energy management and supply accessory product, called the Bach Pack. The Bach Pack seeks to create a viable product energy system solution, at reduced cost and environmental impact (compared with existing solutions) and to achieve this through the development of the usability aspects and features of the product system. The focus is on developing a quality experience for the end user with regards to the attachment and deployment of the components that make up the Bach Pack product. This accessory and modular product solution enables the PAB Gen-2 to be self-sufficient with regard to electrical energy and water supply, and can be specified at point of sale or added later if required. This document focuses explicitly on the design and development of the solar array segment of the Bach Pack.
