Abchiche, Bruno 25 November 2013 (has links)
Abstract

Prolactin-inducible-protein (PIP) influences host immunity by regulating intracellular signaling pathways in macrophages

Ihedioha, Olivia 25 August 2015 (has links)
The human prolactin-inducible protein (PIP) or gross cystic disease fluid protein -15 (GCDFP-15) is a 15 kD protein secreted by human breast cancer cells and is abundant in fluids from gross cystic breast disease. Previous results from our laboratory showed that PIP KO mice had significantly lower numbers of CD4+ T cells in their secondary lymphoid organs, and these cells are impaired in their ability to differentiate into Th1 cells in vitro and in vivo leading to failure to control Leishmania major infection. In the present study, we further assessed the role of PIP in adaptive immunity by comparing cytokine production and intracellular signaling events in macrophages from WT and PIP KO mice following IFN-γ and lipopolysaccharide (LPS) stimulation. We show that although the expressions of IFN-γR and TLR4 on macrophages from KO and WT mice were comparable, PIP KO macrophages were significantly impaired in producing proinflammatory cytokines following IFN-γ and LPS stimulation. This was associated with impaired phosphorylation of mitogen-activated protein kinases (MAPKs) and signal transducers of activation of transcription (STATs) proteins in IFN-γ and LPS-stimulated macrophages from PIP KO mice. Interestingly, the expression of suppressors of cytokine signaling (SOCS) 1 and 3 proteins, known to suppress IFN-γ and LPS signaling, was higher in PIP KO macrophages compared to those from WT mice. Collectively, our studies clearly show that deficiency of PIP significantly affects intracellular signaling events leading to proinflammatory cytokine production in macrophages, and further confirm a role for PIP as important immunoregulatory protein involved in host defense. / October 2015

This dissertation has as its aim to analyze the implementation of the Pedagogical Interference Program (PIP) by the State Secretariat of Education of Minas Gerais, focusing on the work of PIP’s regional analysts at the schools of the Regional Education Superintendence (SRE) of Pouso Alegre. As an object of study, the present dissertation analyzes the possible hurdles in the relationship between PIP’s regional team and the monitored schools which have not produced, at the Pouso Alegre SRE, a meaningful learning from all their students, and therefore, the improvement in high stakes tests and reaching their established targets. Such research is relevant, given that there is a considerable number of students from a late years of middle school who have not at least consolidated the basic skills necessary to continue their studies. This was observed through an analysis of the visit reports written by the analysts from the Pedagogical Interference Program between August 2011 and November 2012 in visits throughout the 74 schools of the jurisdiction, all followed by them. Through such analysis, it was possible to discuss the regional implementation of such policy and propose viable alternatives to the work by PUP’s analysts, aiming to guarantee suitable learning conditions and the success in the students’ school trajectory, the Program’s main focus.

This study aimed to evaluate the implementation of the Pedagogic Intervention Programme / Literacy in Right Time (PIP / ATC) in an Education Regional Superintendent, here called SRE "Zona da Mata". The PIP / ATC, strategic policy of the State Government, has the aspiration that all children read and write until eight years old. Its activities are structured from the Proalfa results, systemic evaluation, applied annually to the graduating students of the Literacy Cycle. The analyzed regional is gradually presenting low results compared the state average, in spite of peculiar characteristics that favor him in PIP implementation. In this sense, this work proposed to investigate possible relationships between the SRE performance and how the program is implemented in schools, which report the function of Regional Team (ER). The research, qualitative basis, developed as a case study, combining methodological tools such as document analysis, the use of questionnaire and interviews with actors in the PIP implementation in the SRE and schools. In order to evaluate the implementation, comparing the program design with the actions actually executed, contingencies proved particularly related to low systematization of the ER work routine. Data analysis shows the management implication in this context, since the low institutional control makes room for the discretionary exercise of implementers, which without proper control, tends to move away from strategies originally designed. In this sense, the Education Action Plan (PAE) proposed here turns to the SRE Management Team performance, in order to strengthen the field staff operation in schools attendance. Proposing reorganizing some work routines and creating new strategies, PAE systematizes ideas, suggestions and models, seeking greater efficiency in PIP implementation.

This thesis focuses on the implementation of the Programme of Educational Intervention / Common Basic Curriculum (PIP / CBC), the State Department of Education of Minas Gerais, as a strategy for improving student learning and consequent elevation of indices of the results of external assessments. For this, concentrates the research outline in a state school in the metropolitan region of Belo Horizonte. The research objective was to elucidate, in the school context, the dynamics of implementing PIP / CBC, pointing obstacles in consolidating the same and the difficulties in raising the levels of proficiency attained in external evaluations, with a view to proposing an Intervention Plan that can help the school in overcoming these obstacles. The methodological approach is bolstered in document analysis, interpretation of legislation that addresses the theme and structured interviews with professionals working in the public state of Minas Gerais. The data collected in the survey revealed evidence that the PIP / CBC does not really achieve the expected results at the school , considering the objectives proposed in its implementation. The main elements of incumbent success of the program are related to lack of knowledge of the guiding principles of the program, to inefficient monitoring of work done in the classroom and the bottlenecks presented in school management, especially in educational management. In this scenario, he presented a plan of intervention, seeking actions that foster greater dialogue with the guiding principles of the PIP / CBC and consequently the improvement in student learning, as well as rising rates of proficiency in external evaluations.

It is based on the interconnection of small fractions of code belonging to attacked processes, which allows overcoming protections widely disseminated, such as that offered by the execute bit (NX/XD). Because of its wide use in attacks against modern computing systems, protections against ROP based exploits have been widely studied. Nevertheless, it is still not known a solution capable of combining efficacy against all forms of ROP, computational efficiency and feasibility of the employment on applications protection. In order to facilitate the understanding of these requirements and the inherent implications for methods of protection against ROP attacks, this work offers a bibliographic survey of the state of the art about this subject. For this, we propose in this paper: (i) metrics for evaluation and comparison of protections against ROP attacks and (ii) taxonomies to classify these protections depending on blocking strategies and implementation approaches used in each solution. This dissertation also provides a new method of protection against arbitrary code execution attacks based on ROP that seeks to encompass the requirements of effectiveness, efficiency and viability. It was demonstrated that by controlling the frequency of indirect branch instructions performed by applications it is possible to distinguish ROP attacks from authentic codes and thus prevent their consolidation. In a dynamic binary instrumentation framework, it was developed a prototype – named RIPROP – for Windows, Linux, Android and OSX environments. Experiments conducted with malicious codes available in public repositories of exploits confirmed the feasibility of the proposed model for the protection of real applications. In addition, the computational cost imposed by RIPROP is comparable and in some cases lower than that achieved by related protections.

Calibration and Results of the Equis II Plasma Impedance Probe

Humphries, Seth D. 01 May 2005 (has links)
This thesis presents the calibration process and analysis results for the two Plasma Impedance Probe (PIP) units that were flown as part of the NASA Equis-I I campaign from the Kwa jalein Atoll. The work of calibration that was presented by Krishna Kurra for the PIP on the Floating Potential Measurement Unit (FPMU) is improved and extended herein. The sweeping impedance probe (SIP), the instrument formerly known as plasma sweeping probe (PSP), is an integral part of the PIP. For the SIP, the calibration presented in this work, calibration error less than 5% error is achieved. The calibration is applied to the flight data to yield impedance measurements. Balmain’s normalized theoretical model is fit to normalized calibrated data to obtain electron density profiles within the range of about 2 × 103 to 5 × 106 [Ne /cm3 ]. Electron density profiles from the plasma frequency probe (PFP), also part of the PIP, are compared with the density profiles from the SIP and there is a close correlation, verifying the calibration and analysis of the SIP.

Post-Transplant Root Production, Mortality, and Periodicity of Landscape-Sized Shade Trees

Richardson-Calfee, Lisa E. 06 August 2003 (has links)
A more thorough knowledge of rooting behavior of transplanted trees is needed to better understand plant establishment. The objectives of this research were to: 1) determine if transplant timing affected root system regeneration of northern red oak (Quercus rubra L.) and willow oak (Q. phellos L.), 2) determine the effect of transplant timing and nursery production system on root, shoot, and trunk growth periodicity of balled-and-burlapped (B&B) and pot-in-pot (PIP) sugar maple (Acer saccharum Marsh.), and 3) characterize seasonal patterns of root production and mortality of transplanted sugar maple. No new root growth occurred outside or within the root balls of red or willow oak between November transplanting and January excavation. However, new root growth was observed when November- and March-transplanted oaks were excavated in April, indicating that new root growth occurs primarily in late winter and/or early. Transplanted and non-transplanted sugar maples exhibited a pattern of maximum rates of shoot extension in early May, root length accumulation in late May, and trunk expansion in mid June. Rate of root length accumulation was less in summer and fall. Transplanting did not appear to disrupt the normal growth periodicity of sugar maple, except when transplanted in July. Abundant root length accumulation occurred in the July transplants at a time when root length accumulation had slowed in all other treatments, resulting in the July transplants having similar standing root lengths as the other transplants by fall. Standing root length of non-transplanted PIP sugar maple declined dramatically in spring. While root production in sugar maple was limited to the growing season, root mortality occurred at a steadier rate throughout the year. Most root mortality occurred in winter in transplanted trees and spring and summer in non-transplanted trees. Non-transplanted PIP trees had greater standing root length, production, and mortality than the other treatments. Indices of root activity (analogous to turnover rates) and production:mortality ratios illustrated the dominant role that root production plays relative to mortality in recently transplanted trees. These data indicate that transplanting and the PIP production system disrupt typical patterns of root production and mortality in sugar maple. / Ph. D.

Synthèse de matériaux alvéolaires base carbures par transformation d'architectures carbonées ou céramiques par RCVD/CVD : application aux récepteurs solaires volumiques / Synthesis of porous materials (carbide type) with carbon or ceramic substrates transformation by RCVD/CVD : applications for solar receivers

Baux, Anthony 25 October 2018 (has links)
The aim is to design and create efficient cellular architectures for volumetric solar receivers used in the future thermodynamic power plants. Three strategies are considered for the creation of ceramic or carbon preforms: (i) the synthesis of biomorphic materials resulting from the cutting of balsa, (ii) the elaboration of ceramic structures by binder jetting and (iii) the replication of polymer structures made by 3D printing, using a carbon or ceramic precursor resin. In all cases, the green preforms are converted by pyrolysis to C or SiC and an infiltration step / SiC coating by CVD (Chemical Vapor Deposition) completes the manufacture of ceramic structures. An intermediate stage of RCVD (Reactive CVD) was implemented during the first strategy, in order to convert the microporous carbonaceous structure into TiC. The composition, the microstructure and the porous architecture of the ceramic structures were first characterized. The characteristics of the most relevant materials, considering the application as a solar receiver, were then examined. The thermomechanical properties and the oxidation resistance have thus been characterized in priority. Permeability and thermo-radiative properties, which are also two important factors for application, were also considered.

This thesis aims to analyze the continuing education of teachers through the Educational Intervention Program / Literacy at the Right Time (PIP / ATC - acronyms in portuguese) directed mainly for teachers of 3º and 5º grades of elementary school, between the years 2008 to 2013, from the perspective of a school of the Regional Superintendent of Education based on Juiz de Fora - State of Minas Gerais (SRE / JF - acronyms in portuguese). The choice of this school unit was due to its excellent results in external and internal evaluations and his award as Outstanding Regional in 2011 and 2012, in the School Management Award sponsored by the National Council of Education Secretaries (CONSED - acronyms in portuguese) as a recognition of projects and successful efforts in basic education schools in the public system in our country. We also describe and analyse the actions of the school in the development and implementation of its Educational Intervention Plan - PIP / School who contributed to the achievement of significant results acquired. The importance of continuing education is aimed at educational legislation as in Law number. 9394/96 and also by theme researchers’ analysis of the continuing education of teachers and renowned educators who point to the need for critical reflection on the daily practice afforded by moments of formation that favors the continued professional development aimed at improving the quality of education.
