The PCH doors swing both ways: the experiences of older women whose husbands have moved to a personal care home

This qualitative exploratory research study examined the experiences of older women (over age 55) whose husbands had been admitted to a personal care home (PCH) in Winnipeg, Manitoba within the previous twelve (12) months. In-depth, semi-structured, one-on-one interviews were conducted with six (6) women. Socialist feminist and feminist caregiving theoretical frameworks along with narrative analysis were used gain insight into the participants’ needs surrounding their experiences of the admission. Findings include the fact that changes in women’s formal and informal supports began occurring years before their husbands’ admissions. The all-encompassing role as caregiver for their families continued to be central in their lives even after the admission. While women met their material and emotional needs through a range of formal and informal services, the participants were more likely to see needs met through informal means. Themes emerging from the research included those of guilt, entitlement, obligation, and reciprocity.

The present research analyses the patent databases Derwent Innovations Index e Espacenet in order to contribute to studies in competitive intelligence through patent analysis related to nanotechnology applications in cosmetics and personal care products. Derwent Innovations Index and Espacenet databases are web accessible databases, with international coverage in all fields of technology. Thus, this study intends to elucidate the features and resources available in each of those databases and contribute to the optimization of the information search and retrieval for patent documents analysis. Based on the proposal, the research is exploratory and descriptive and quantitative and qualitative approach, which aims identify the features offered by each databases and then elaborate patents analysis using softwares and resources for this purpose. As results, Derwent Innovations Index and Espacenet are different in some aspects and those two databases can be used alone or in a complementary manner depending on the objectives, and ultimately, concludes that Derwent Innovations Index is the most suitable database according to the criteria evaluated. / O documento de patente é uma fonte de informação tecnológica padronizada internacionalmente e de grande relevância para o aumento do potencial competitivo e de inovação das empresas. Esta pesquisa analisa as bases de dados de patentes Derwent Innovations Index e Espacenet com o intuito de contribuir com estudos de inteligência competitiva por meio da análise de patentes sobre aplicações da nanotecnologia em cosméticos e produtos de higiene pessoal. A Derwent Innovations Index e a Espacenet são bases de dados acessíveis por meio eletrônico, com abrangência internacional e cobertura de todos os campos tecnológicos. Assim, o presente estudo visa delinear as características e recursos disponíveis em cada uma das bases de acordo com critérios de avaliação adotados e contribuir com a otimização da busca e recuperação da informação para análise dos documentos de patentes. Com base no objetivo proposto, a pesquisa é exploratória e descritiva e com abordagem quantitativa e qualitativa, no qual visa identificar os recursos oferecidos por cada uma das bases de dados e, em etapa posterior, elaborar análises de patentes com a utilização de softwares e recursos para esta finalidade. Com base no desenvolvimento desta pesquisa, pode-se afirmar que a Derwent Innovations Index e a Espacenet são bases de dados diferentes em alguns aspectos e estas duas bases de dados podem ser utilizadas de maneira complementar ou isoladamente dependendo dos objetivos e, por fim conclui-se que a a Derwent Innovations Index é a base de dados a mais indicada de acordo com os critérios avaliados.

The wide and diversified literature about the theme doesn t show any field results confirming this relationship in the sector. The theoretical references of this study are the works of Schumpeter (1949, 1950), Penrose (2006), Urabe (1988), Porter (1986, 1990), Stokes (2005), Dismukes (2005), Hannan e Freeman (1977), Hamel (2003) and OECD (2004). This study involved a double-step descriptive field research. In the first step, a quantitative research was developed with 48 manufacturers. In the second step, an exploratory case study was conducted in a worldwide industry leader. Finally, it is possible to conclude that innovative activities have a positive relationship with domestic appliances and personal care Brazilian companies growth and that a representative part of this growth came from product innovation. Other conclusions came from Philips case study, showing a new business value chain in the last few years with technological alliances assuming a strategic role in product, process and business models innovation system. / Este estudo analisa a relação existente entre o investimento em atividades inovativas e o crescimento das empresas fabricantes de eletrodomésticos, no período de 2005 a 2008. A ampla e diversificada literatura existente sobre o tema não apresenta resultados empíricos que evidenciem essa relação no setor. Como referenciais teóricos foram utilizados os trabalhos de Schumpeter (1949, 1950), Penrose (2006), Urabe (1988), Porter (1986, 1990), Stokes (2005), Dismukes (2005), Hannan e Freeman (1977), Hamel (2003) e OECD (2004). O trabalho compreendeu uma pesquisa descritiva, desenvolvida em duas etapas. Na primeira etapa foi desenvolvida uma pesquisa quantitativa junto a uma amostra de 48 fabricantes de eletrodomésticos. Na segunda etapa foi conduzido um estudo de caso exploratório numa empresa líder mundial da indústria. Os resultados do estudo permitem concluir que o modelo teórico proposto se confirma na prática, ou seja, o investimento em atividades inovativas possui relação positiva com o crescimento das empresas de eletrodomésticos brasileiras e que uma parcela representativa desse crescimento se deve ao fato de que as empresas inovam em produto. Outras conclusões extraídas do estudo de caso são que a cadeia de valor nos negócios da Philips sofreu uma reconfiguração nos últimos anos e as alianças tecnológicas passaram a assumir um papel estratégico no seu sistema de inovação de produtos, processos e modelos de negócio.

The thesis deals with the problem of aging of the population in the lower territorial unit in the municipality with extended competence in Příbram. The current situation of the population is dealt with, but the future population status is projected from 2015 to 2030. For their analysis are used demographic and economic indicators, results of own projection as well as a description of social care services provided in this area. The aging of the population is related to several key themes, mainly with the provision of adequate care for the elderly, and in the work it is also addressed in terms of financing services and the increasing burden of the economically active population. The demographic data on the local population is compared with the situation in the Czech Republic. The benefit of the work is primarily to determine the need for social care services for the elderly in the future, to identify possible shortcomings in their provision, capacity, quality and financing. The aim of the thesis is also to find possible solutions that are most effective and help to ensure safe and peaceful aging for all seniors in SO ORP Příbram. The result of the work is to map the current situation and to create a future estimation that will provide the necessary documents for better planning of social services for the elderly.

En este trabajo presentamos un plan de negocios para el desarrollo de jabones corporales y faciales a base de insumos naturales con propiedades antibacterianas. Para este proyecto se realizó un análisis de la competencia y el benchmarking de la industria de la cosmética natural con la finalidad de desarrollar productos viables en el largo plazo y un amplio valor diferencial. Asimismo, para validar nuestro modelo de negocio desarrollamos dos hipótesis las cuales fueron validadas mediante experimentos MVP. Mediante estos experimentos pudimos ofrecer finalmente al mercado un producto adaptado a los gustos y preferencias de nuestro público objetivo para el cual tuvimos que realizar la segmentación de nuestro mercado. Luego de ello se realizó el plan de ejecución de nuestro concierge con la finalidad de analizar la demanda y costos de nuestro proyecto para luego realizar nuestra proyección de ventas. Luego de realizar esta proyección también se tuvo que realizar el presupuesto de cada área. Entre estas encontramos a operaciones, recursos humanos, marketing y RSE. Estos presupuestos por lo general iban enfocados hacia las estrategias e inversiones que aplicaremos considerando la imagen que deseamos proyectar en el mercado. / In this paper we present a business plan for the development of body and facial soaps based on natural ingredients with antibacterial properties. For this project, an analysis of the competition and benchmarking of the natural cosmetics industry was carried out in order to develop viable products in the long term and a wide differential value. Likewise, to validate our business model, we developed two hypotheses which were validated through MVP experiments. Through these experiments we were finally able to offer the market a product adapted to the tastes and preferences of our target audience for which we had to carry out the segmentation of our market. After that, the execution plan of our concierge was made in order to analyze the demand and costs of our project and then carry out our sales projection. After carrying out this projection, the budget for each area also had to be made. Among these we find operations, human resources, marketing and CSR. These budgets were generally focused on the strategies and investments that we will apply considering the image we wish to project in the market. / Trabajo de investigación

En el presente trabajo de investigación se evalúan todos los aspectos necesarios a tener en cuenta para iniciar un negocio de elaboración y comercialización de láminas de jabón hechos a base de esencias naturales como eucalipto, manzanilla y jengibre. Este proyecto está dirigido a mujeres y hombres del NSE A y B que habiten en Lima Metropolitana y que tengan edades entre 18 y 55 años. La propuesta de valor se basa en los insumos empleados para la elaboración de las láminas de jabón que servirán como desinfectantes para cualquier persona en estos tiempos de pandemia y por la coyuntura y necesidad mundial que existe por tener algún elemento que ayude a que una persona se proteja de alguna infección o enfermedad; asimismo, las láminas de jabón servirán como desinfectante pero, a su vez, servirán como protector de la piel de las personas que la usen ya que estarán hechas a base de esencias naturales como el eucalipto y la manzanilla que tienen componentes curativos y protectores. Teniendo en cuenta la coyuntura mundial, se comercializará este producto por un medio digital con un delivery directo y mediante la comercialización vía redes sociales o plataformas virtuales como páginas web de la empresa. Para el inicio de las operaciones se realiza un alcance de potenciales consumidores finales vía digital mediante la utilización de las redes sociales y plataformas virtuales como la página web de la empresa; es por ello que, hasta el momento se obtuvieron aprendizajes sobre el producto para lograr cumplir con las expectativas y exigencias del consumidor. Con estos datos se realizó una proyección y análisis de las ventas concretas y deseos de venta de los clientes para poder realizar un concierge y una proyección de ventas, teniendo en cuenta el tipo de láminas de jabón más solicitadas. Asimismo, se ha mejorado la planificación estratégica de la empresa al enfocarnos en un mercado en crecimiento en cuanto a la demanda ya existente de productos enfocados en la higiene y el cuidado personal. / In this research work, all the necessary aspects to be taken into account are evaluated to start a business of elaboration and commercialization of soap sheets made from natural essences such as eucalyptus, chamomile and ginger. This project is aimed at women and men from NSE A and B who live in Metropolitan Lima and who are between 18 and 55 years old. Taking into account the global situation, this product will be marketed through a digital medium with direct delivery and through marketing via social networks or virtual platforms such as company web pages. To start operations, potential final consumers are reached via digital means using social networks and virtual platforms such as the company's website; That is why, up to now, learning about the product has been obtained in order to meet consumer expectations and demands. With these data, a projection and analysis of the specific sales and sales wishes of the clients was carried out in order to carry out a concierge and a sales projection, taking into account the type of soap sheets most requested. Debido a la coyuntura global por el cuidado del medio ambiente y preservar la salud de las personas y los animales, las empresas han visto en la necesidad de brindar mediante sus productos una respuesta ante esta necesidad, que conlleva a transmitir el cuidado del medio ambiente. Es por ello, que hoy en día las personas están desarrollando un nuevo hábito de consumo enfocado a consumir productos sin químicos, naturales y más saludables. Tomando como referencia está oportunidad, nace QuiZa que es un proyecto cuyo objetivo es brindar una alternativa para las mujeres en el exigente cuidado natural del cabello. El planeamiento estratégico de este análisis es poder determinar la viabilidad de este proyecto, el cual está respaldado en estudios de investigación de mercado para conocer las necesidades de nuestro público objetivo. El análisis del entorno en el que se desarrollará el proyecto identifica las oportunidades y las amenazas a las que podría estar sujeto. El plan económico y financiero evidencia que el proyecto es rentable, llegando a mostrar un VPN mayor a cero y una TIR de 45.19%. En base a los puntos más relevantes, se puede evidenciar lo atractivo y rentable que sería este proyecto en un mercado donde el consumo por productos naturales teniendo oportunidad de crecimiento. El presente trabajo de investigación tiene por finalidad demostrar la viabilidad del proyecto de negocio llamado “Daily Cut Barber”, con una proyección de 5 años. Nuestro proyecto es un aplicativo móvil que permitirá brindar el servicio de barbería a domicilio para hombres y niños, ofreciendo a los usuarios la posibilidad de determinar el lugar, barbero y el horario según sus necesidades. Esta aplicación estará disponible en los sistemas operativos de Android y IOS, buscando ser masiva al segmento al cual nos dirigimos. Tras un breve registro el cliente podrá solicitar cualquiera de nuestros servicios, esta acción traerá como consecuencia que todos nuestros barberos asociados responderán a ese servicio para aparecer como opción al cliente. Este tendrá a la mano: el perfil, la cantidad de servicios realizados y el ranking para poder tomar la decisión con total seguridad. Nuestro público objetivo está orientado a dos tipos de clientes, por un lado están los usuarios que son varones desde los 13 años hasta 55 años de los niveles socioeconómicos A y B en la ciudad de Lima, por otro lado están los barberos(as) con experiencia en el rubro. Lignin in Cosmetics: State of the Art : Discerning the value of lignin in the cosmetic industry

This study was carried out at the Department of Nanotechnology and Functional Materials,Uppsala University, one of several places where the interest of lignin in cosmetics is constantly growing. The functionalities of lignin have been studied to a great extent revealing its potential as a natural biopolymer to serve as a replacement for environmentally hazardous components in cosmetic formulations, namely UV-filters in sunscreens. Using ethnographic methods and qualitative interviews the lignin-cosmetic industry was observed and analyzed in order to discern how concerned the industry is with ecological andaesthetic value. Ecological value is a hallmark of the value proposition in the cosmetic industry, and leaders of the industry indeed share this view. The analysis further revealed that the actors of the lignin-cosmetic industry are at different stages of development and that as of this year we can expect the first product to be launched. Furthermore, the value chain of the lignin actors was identified and for the first time mapped out in detail from the qualitative analysis that was carried out targeting lignin actors within the lignin-cosmetic industry. Mapping the value chain revealed the actors included in the entire chain identified as biorefinery, manufacturer, modifier, formulator, distributor and retailer which together compose the lignin-cosmetic value chain. A qualitative, semi structured interview approach was used and adapted as we met with eleven actors interviewing them about ecological and aesthetic values in the lignin based product value proposition. The grounded theory was applied to analyze the data, generating eight categories representing the concepts comprising ecological and aesthetic values of the value proposition. The kernel category, Green Profile, explains the most important concepts valued by lignin actors in terms of what ecological and aesthetic value could be offered to be appealing to customers. The findings of this study reveals the current situation of lignin in the cosmetic market as of today, and discerns where the value of lignin lies. The understanding of lignin actors' values contributes to the current gray-area in biopolymer research, lacking information on the value chain of lignin in cosmetics. The findings therefore foster the advancement of sustainable innovative solutions for cosmetics and personal care.
