Contemplações entre arte e clínica: por uma postura fenomenológico-hermenêutica / Contemplations between art and clinical practice: for a phenomenological- hermeneutic approach

Clini, Maíra Mendes 05 May 2016 (has links)
From the intersection of psychology and the hermeneutic phenomenology of Martin Heidegger, the intention of this work was to discuss the attitude of the clinic professional that works under this perspective, based on the author\'s thought, including, particularly, his later works and his considerations on art and language. We have built a qualitative, interdisciplinary research, which touches the areas of psychology, philosophy and art. Through the critical phenomenological considerations of Martin Heidegger, we discussed the conception of truth that rules psychology as a modern science and that relates to present psychological practices. We resort to hermeneutic phenomenology as a power of overcoming dichotomies. To illustrate the field of práxis of phenomenological hermeneutic psychology, we interviewed professionals working from that perspective. Through this study, we intend to raise issues involving phenomenology as psychological approach and point out possible ways of overcoming these problems, revealing possibilities of a different psychology from, as stated, the contributions of Martin Heidegger\'s hermeneutic phenomenology and his considerations on art and language

These professionals face a lack of preparation to deal with religious questions within their practices. Most studies handle the subject matter highlighting its difficulties, so it is important to address it through its positive aspects. Thus, the purpose of this dissertation is to question and comprehend the ability of the supervisor, which is the professional who deals with the subject of Psychology and religion among the trainees in school clinics, in order the students feel comfortable. To reach this purpose, three interviews were conducted with a school clinic supervisor, selected by the students as someone who welcomes questions related to the religious dimension. A qualitative research was developed on a phenomenological basis, and aimed to investigate the supervisor s experiences through semi-structured interviews. The interviews´ analysis pointed out that it is possible to welcome religious questions that emerge during supervision as any other topic, and that this welcoming is provided by a significant learning approach, as a result of a transforming dialogic-based relationship provided by an active listening. This relationship allows the student to talk about this subject without the fear of being judged; the supervisor takes into consideration her students´ life experiences, focusing her own feelings and thoughts so it is possible for the students to open themselves to the others. Her attitude is influenced by her vision of mankind, her life experiences, her theoretical approach and how she conceives religion. Knowing the experience of the teacher, who is seen by the students as someone who can embrace the themes of religion may help others responsible for the training of psychologists, to provide conditions for students to reflect without fear and prejudice on religious matters and their role in human life / A literatura aponta que a religião é um tema, muitas vezes, negligenciado pelos profissionais de Psicologia.

From the refrigerator door to the art gallery floor : young children's experiences with the display of their own visual artwork

Boone, Danielle J. January 2008 (has links)
The practice of displaying young children’s visual artwork in early childhood classrooms poses a number of questions about the child and his or her work. Following Giorgi’s approach to phenomenological research, this thesis focused on children’s lived experiences of art display. 13 children between the ages of 4 and 6 years attending an independent school outside metropolitan Detroit, Michigan (USA) disclosed their experiences of seeing their artwork on display. Dr Boone’s study revealed that, despite clear evidence of children’s strong views, decisions about the display of artwork continue to rest with adults.

An exploration into the perceptive experiences of the “Deaf-Self” : From phenomenological psychology perspectives

Wu, Ya Chin Unknown Date (has links)
Purpose: Deaf people have different ways to contact with people, that is, sign language, learn speaking, or use both ways to communicate. In order to criticize the current views about the deaf from the ableism in past decades, critical reviews of the related domains are articulated, including “deaf children’s special education,” “psychological health” and “hearing aid/ cochlear implant.” The accomplished goal among the three domains is all to try to improve the deficiency from the adaptive view and expect deaf people to adjust their life in the hearing-like way. A few of studies under the ableism used the questionnaires to collect data to understand the deaf. However, it is the outsider view and the state of mind of the deaf is restricted by the questionnaire design. Methods: The phenomenological psychology approach is adopted to explore the experiences of the “Deaf-Self” to avoid the ableism trap; it is the Epoch attitude to understand who they are and their modes of existences. Six deaf participants were interviewed through sign language. The data analysis procedures of carrying out phenomenological psychology were based on six steps: data collection, empathic immersion, meaning units, constituent themes, situated structure, and general structure. Results and discussion: First, deaf people feel alien to life word in the ontological insecurity meaning when they use the hearing-aid devices. To preserve their authentic life world, deaf people community is built in silence beyond the hearing world that is designed under the normative adaptive views. The Deaf did not think they are disabling so it is not necessary to adjust to live into the “normal” world. Second, the way they express the sign language through focusing their eyes is meant “presence” and “engaging,” they always gaze at everything carefully and attentively. Sign language is the root of the deaf-identity. When deaf people use sign language, it means they can give their voices to the world from the authentic self. Sign language is not only a skill which makes deaf people to communicate with each other smoothly, but also is the affection and vitality in itself; it is beyond the symbolic meaning to reach the close relationships to each other. Third, ‘hearing-loss’ is not equivalent to ‘disability’, it means different modes of existences. Conclusion: We turn the deficiency conceptualization to the “ability gaining” perspective to construct the ‘Deaf Culture’ to propose the Deaf and hearing people are different from their cultures and habitus; it is not the severity of hearing impairments to distinguish them. They present the ability diversity and unique way of being-in-the-world. The clinical practice is discussed from the outcome implications.

Vividação na pele restaurada : limite entre o viver e o morrer do paciente grande queimado e o cuidado da equipe hospitalar / Vividação in the restored skin the limit btween to live and to die of the severely-burned and the health care teams

Josélia Quintas Silva de Souza 27 February 2003 (has links)
The main goal of this research is to reflect on the severely-burned patient who is in a limit situation and who has been offered current psychological help, so that he/she is able to face the necessary treatment. This severe health situation leads the patient into a deep depression and consequently makes him/her feel that his/her life may come to an end some time in the near future. Therefore the severely-ill patients feel themselves depressed and helpless. Because they underwent very serious burns and due to their high level of morbidity they feel emotinally impaired. They need strength so that they are able to stand and face treatment. Moreover, they need to be conscious of their own deep suffering in order to face it with courage and in a positive way. The methodology chosen has a phenomenal and existential basis. Hence interviews were made with the patients and the medical staff as well so that one can understand how this tough experience happens and also what it means to the patient. Based on the patients report it was found that they feel anxious and anguished both for not knowing what is ahead for them, e. g. if they will get better and also because they are aware of death: they know they may die! The author decides to name vividação that very situation which Frankl mentions when the patients make use of their own courage, hope and sympathy to overcome anxiety and suffering. Heidegger thinks that anguish and anxiety both force the patients to care for themselves, and turn them strong in their deep inner loneliness. This fact shows that vividação is in fact ação vivida, e. g. the patients themselves fighting to defeat all that anguish, anxiety and suffering

Re-significando a ação clínica psicológica na assistência à criança queimada / Re-directing the psychological clinical action in the assistance of the burn child an experience in question

Ivana Magaly Lima Alencar Carvalheira 28 March 2003 (has links)
Espera-se, com este trabalho, apontar aberturas para ousadias responsáveis na atuação clínica, com implicações para o estudo e prática interdisciplinar / Considering the pain and suffering of the burned child who is in hospital, this author was concerned mostly with the kinds of current clinical help which are offered by the psychology professionals staff. From this view point when one researched about the saber fazer, that is, the psychological and clinical know-how, there were a great number of possibilities as to the fazer saber, e.g. how to reach the suffering child in his/her innerself and let him/her know that there is someone who in fact can help. It was found out that there were a number of attitudes, actions, interventation and interpretation which the psychologist could make use of in his relationship and care for the subject, the burned child. Therefore, the psychologist and/or researcher should be conscious about how broad the psychological clinical field is, and further he/she needs to understand clearly what may help as well as what may prevent a certain contextual action. One should start from understanding the subjects individual experience as a unique human being. This study aims to take a rather different look at the burned child specific experience, and tries to provide a new meaning to the psychological clinical action, inside a hospital, enlightened by both the existential phenomenon and attitudes for the psychological clinical action. The qualitative methodology was chosen, and it was inspired by the narrator himself. It was also supported by the phenomenal method for interpretation. The material analysed is made up of narratives based on the psychologist/researcher experiences, as well as from the burned child and the mother, who were in the Burned Treatment Center (BTC). In addition, reports from professionals belonging to the same health staff were considered. Finally , special attention was given to both the experienced/affectionate knowledge and the theoretical one, all deriving from talks to area field experts. It was discovered that the psychological action done at the BTC is in the pratical-theoretical field from the Psychological Advice, and it is deemed as an educational and psychological-clinical practice, in an interdisciplinary dimension of a clinical social action. M oreover, some special peculiarities were found from the communication among the professional psychologist, the burned child and the mother. Those peculiarities were the tools which facilitated the psychologist

This dissertation explores the development of the concept of Phenomenological Psychology in the work of the philosopher Edmund Husserl and, more specifically, in the work "Phenomenological Psychology" that corresponds to vol. IX of the complete works of the philosopher, denominated Husserliana. We present the husserlian through the formation of the concept of Phenomenological Psychology and how its understanding makes possible answers to questions about psychology scientificity, which has been present since its foundation as a modern science, at the end of the XIX century. We conclude that it is necessary to construct an intermediate field between Phenomenology and scientific studies in Psychology, through the rediscovery of Husserl’s theory over the possibility of a Scientific Psychology of eidetic-transcendental bases and the usage of the phenomenological method, as well as the intersubjective character of human psyque as the basis of this possibility.

An exploration of significant themes in the diary of a person who committed murder

Muller, Michael Arnoldus 23 January 2004 (has links)
The objective of this study was to explore the authentic knowledge that evolved from a spontaneously written personal diary and other texts of a person who committed a crime of passion. I attempted to demonstrate how spontaneous linguistic forms could be used to gain a better understanding of the dynamics underlying and precipitating a crime of passion. A crime of passion represents a part of reality where both the suffering individual and the therapeutic or researching community seem to be either out of control or very vague understanding and explaining this seemingly paradoxical phenomenon. The main question is: why is the knowing (loving a person) in such cases not revealed in their way of being (killing that person)? An existential-phenomenological approach was adopted to explicate the apparently paradoxical phenomenon of a crime of passion. I explored the complicated hidden meanings (knowledge) in the diary of a person who murdered his fiancée, to unravel these assumed paradoxes, and found that the knowledge (epistemology) in the subject spontaneous self-expression provided a key for a better understanding of his way of existence or being (ontology) within a specific context, time and part of his life. Exploratory, descriptive, conceptual and semantic questions were explored by adopting an existential-hermeneutical orientation that allowed me to explicate the paradoxes both at primary and secondary levels. Working from a qualitative research perspective and phenomenological methodology, an in-depth analysis of meaning units and conceptual categories clarified underlying and hidden meanings in the texts. Theoretical linkages between different conceptual categories were explicated, highlighting the gaps in our previous understanding and theorising about crimes of passion. In this I could reveal how the person s existence gradually changed from inauthentic (insincere) and pretending to a more authentic (sincere) life of caring and responsibility after the crime. The main contribution of this project can thus be described as providing new insights to the therapeutic and research community concerning the complexity of the paradoxical existence of a person who committed a crime of passion. / Thesis (PhD (Psychotherapy))--University of Pretoria, 2005. / Psychology / unrestricted
