Rosângela Rennó = fotografia, deslocamentos e desaparição na arte contemporânea brasileira = Rosângela Rennó: photography, displacements and disappearance in brazilian contemporary art / Rosângela Rennó : photography, displacements and disappearance in brazilian contemporary art

In this research were analyzed three installations made by the Brazilian artist Rosângela Rennó ¿ Imemorial (1994-1995), In Oblivionem (1994-1995) and Hipocampo (1995) ¿ aiming to understand the artist's investigations about the photographic image and the implication of its uses when related to memory, displacement and aesthetics of disappearance concepts in contemporary art. Besides the mentioned works, the artist's work in progress Arquivo Universal (since 1992) is also considered in the analysis, once it consists in her personal collection of news articles which are usually consulted during the conception of her works. It¿s fundamental for this research the analysis of Rennó's position as a collector of ruins (wasted photos and other cultural remains) to problematize the tension between the two types of collection, which mean different ways to deal with time and history: there is the unique and affectionate dimension of the artist's collection as a memory practice ¿ fragmentary par excellence ¿ and the organization of her installations in spaces for art expositions (galleries and museums), where the historical linear discourse is predominant. The role of the artist, which is discussed during this research, coincides with the positive countertype of the collector, defined by Walter Benjamin as the one who discards the utility functions of the objects, connecting the action of collecting to a nonlinear dialectical perception of time. The artist's position is related to the disappearance concept thought by the cultural theorist and urbanist Paul Virilio, important for the analysis of the alterations Rosângela Rennó does in the images she appropriates / Mestrado / Artes Visuais / Mestra em Artes Visuais

De l’espace de la scène à l’espace de la page : médiation et médiatisation du corps de mode à travers le défilé et les séries photographiques de la presse magazine / From the catwalk space to the photographic page : mediation and mediatization of fashion-body through the catwalk and the photographic series of magazines

Kireche-Gerwig, Rym 03 October 2016 (has links)
The present research interrogates the poetry of the fashion contemporary body transmitted by two media portraying the body : fashion shows and photographic series as part of fashion magazines. At the crossroads of semiotic, discursive political and social issues, the central problem investigated in this thesis is the complex and interdisciplinary point of view of the information sciences of communication with the aim to study the media construction of the fashion world. Three hypotheses divide the investigated problem by taking the mediatised part of the fashion world and produce it as “reified form” of advertisement and culture. The first postulates that fashion shows and fashion series are medias which produce an informed body by the apparatus owned by each of them. The second hypothesis postulates that the fashion body is produced for commercialand advertisement purposes. It does not persist less “culturalized” thanks to the choreography which is perceived as writing of the body in the catwalk space or in the photographic page. This gives it a culture status allowing it to circulate in the social medias. Finally, the third follows the movement of the fashion body's reification initiated by the exposure through fashion shows. It postulates that its mass exposure by photographic series, which is an industrialized and standardized production, make it similar to a merchandise.

Vratká společnost / Precarious Society

Schlosserová, Jana January 2014 (has links)
The installation is formed from the fifth sculptures, individuals, larger than life size. Their bodies are just shapes and surfaces, which leave place for the rest of the human form. The form is preserved only in black-and-white photography, in portraits, which are part of the sculptures. They ostensibly do nothing, like stopping in time. However they move, but for that move is neccessary initial impetus and it is the role of the viewer. Instability of sculptures is an expression of the unstable position of the human beings in today's society (the origin of instability). Sculptures creates society thanks for their quantity, community and contact.

Professional photographers and their use of Instagram : How Instagram influences professional photographers’ mindsets and contribute to their rethinking of creative practices

Klimenka, Alesia January 2022 (has links)
Professional photographers who actively use Instagram in their work notice its influence on various aspects of their professional and creative activities. The present thesis examines the manifestations of such influence noticed by a group of professional photographers. The results of five personal in-depth interviews, determined by the thematic analysis, revealed the peculiarities of work of professional photographers on the Instagram platform and beyond it, and their noticeof Instagram influence on such practices as photography creation, photo shootings, retouch, andinspiration search. It appeared that the photographers’ practices are adapting for the better account performance on the platform under the “threat of invisibility”. Besides, to achieve audience recognition, modern photographers need to actively participate in the race for higher metrics, which, due to the algorithmic features of Instagram management, are not guaranteed. All the professional photographers’ practices adapted for better Instagram performance and visibility can be considered as unpaid part of the photographers’ work, that is taken for granted.

Podobnosti v latentnosti / Similarities in latency

Machačová, Nikola Unknown Date (has links)
The diploma thesis Similarities in Latency deals with the concept of latency in photography and its connection with the environment of a concrete plant. It is a set of objects formed from residual materials from the process of production of precast concrete, which are then buried deep below the earth's surface. Photographs are transferred to the artifacts from the production using the historical technique of photography – cyanotype. The whole set examines the analogies of two different processes and connects them into one whole.

The War That Does Not Leave Us: Memory of the American Civil War and the Photographs of Alexander Gardner

White, Katie Janae 16 June 2014 (has links) (PDF)
In July of 1863 the photographs A Harvest of Death, Field Where General Reynolds Fell, A Sharpshooter's Last Sleep, and The Home of a Rebel Sharpshooter were taken after the battle at Gettysburg by a team of photographers led by Alexander Gardner. In the decades that followed these images of the dead of the battlefield became some of the most iconic representations of the American Civil War. Today, Gardner's Gettysburg photographs can be found in almost every contemporary history text, documentary, or collection of images from the war, yet their journey to this iconic status has been little discussed. The goal of this thesis is to expand the general understanding of these Civil War photographs and their legacy by considering their use beyond the early 1860s. Although part of a larger scope of influence, the discussion of the photographs presented here will focus particularly on the years between 1894 and 1911. Between those years they were made available to the public through large photographic histories and other history texts as well. The aim of these texts, which framed and manipulated Gardner's images, were to disseminate a propagandistic history of the war in a way that outlined it as a nationally unifying experience, rather than one of division. These texts mark the beginning of the influence the Gettysburg photographs would have on American memory of the war. Within these books the four photographs became part of a larger effort to reconnect with the past and shape the war into a source for a unified American identity.
