AnÃlise dos determinantes reais do mercado de fundos de pensÃo nos estados brasileiros / Analysis of determinative reals of the market of pension fund in the Brazilian states

Jaqueline Lima Alves 20 April 2005 (has links)
The problem of the population aging, among others aspects, has taken a lot of countries, including Brazil, to rethink its pension systems. Inevitably, the discutions lead to the pension funds, either publics or privates. The purpouse of this study is to evaluate the size of the market of pension fund in the Federative Units of Brazil. This study was done using variables that could explain the size of the market, such as education (EDU25), the percentage of the population over 65 years (PP65), that it searchs to catch the influence of the population aging in the development of the private pensions funds; the amount of participants (PFP) and pensioners (PAFP) that they are sector parts and its respective dependents (DFP). The variable sample used for the econometrical calculations, referring to the period from 1996 to 2000, the Federative Units of Brazil, with exception of the North Regions States for the difficult to get the relative data the population above of the 65 years and the Federal District for presenting big variations of the variable in comparison to the others of the sample, resulted in 95 comments. The empirical inquiry was lead through regression analysis with data in panel, esteem for GLS (Generalized Minimums Squared) method, considering TIF/PIB (Totals investments of the Pension funds as proportion ratio of the GDP) as changeable dependent and PP65, EDU25, PFP, PAFP, DFP, as changeable independent. The results for each one of the independent variable indicate that all are statistics significant, for the level of significance 0,10, as well as the signals corroborate the first hypotheses, with exception of DFP variable. Althought, the probability of rejection of the true hypothesis is very low for the model variable. It concludes that the existence of the problem of the aged one, explains the growth of the pension funds. Moreover, the higher level of education and a biggest continent enclosed by the pension funds, will contribute decisively for the development of the sector in the Federative Units of Brazil.

Cardoso, Juliana Carvalho January 2017 (has links)
With the intentionality of collaborating on a proposed digital cartography, the research developed a rhizomatic methodology to describe relationships between the elderly and the city of Porto Alegre. This reading-graphic was built by students of the 3rd Year of high school, Class 312, of the Institute of Education Flores da Cunha. Learning, based on the study of demography, knowledge acquired during school years of the discipline of Geography, but whose more complex study is given at high school level, through the study of populations - with emphasis on the Brazilian population - being the population aging studies our research guide. In order to do so, we deepen the studies, under the lenses of Geography and Cultural Studies, into demographic transformations that take place at the world, federal and state levels, discussing public policy issues, social and economic scenarios of the different speeches that construct multiple facets about third Age. We turn our eyes to the daily life of the city of Porto Alegre and aim at the issues of infrastructure and access to the city, leisure and health of the elderly population. Under this range of possibilities, we ended up choosing, along the trails traveled, the paths that gave us meaning for our cartography of the representations of aging in Porto Alegre. It was intended, besides addressing topics studied in the classroom, to bring the generations closer together, to observe the uses of spaces in the city of Porto Alegre and to build in the young person an awareness of the social problems resulting from the aging of the Brazilian population, and the confrontations on which this population has its daily life. All the systematized information about the elderly population of each city built what is currently called Digital Collaborative Cartography, where the data and information we collected over the research served to digitally share and compose our collaboration in the cartography of the website “Mapeando o topo da Pirâmide" (Mapping the top of the pyramid).

The Influence of Demographic Transition on Economic Growth -The Evidence from 47 Prefectures of Japan

- Chung Hsu, Wu 05 August 2012 (has links)
The vigorous economic growth in Japan after World War II triggered the demographic change of low fertility, low mortality and increasing life expectancy. Japan¡¦s ¡§Dankainosedai¡¨ (Baby boomer) getting old led to a rapid aging society in the past twenty years. Currently, the percentage of older people in Japan significantly exceeds global average and even reaches a level so called super-aging society. Such phenomenon of baby bust and population aging not only deteriorates the economic growth but also reduces government¡¦s budget for public construction, leads to rural-urban divide, and causes major social issues such as family support, retirement and healthcares. Recent literature focusing on influence of demographic transition on economic growth was primarily based on cross-sectional data or panel data. Few articles presented analysis using the prefecture -by- prefecture or regional data as a base. Therefore, we try to clarify the interaction between demographic change and economic growth by using 47 prefectures¡¦ statistic data of Japan, which is very well collected and ideal for conducting documental regression analysis. The objective of this paper is to provide some conclusions from Japan which might be useful for the government of Taiwan when making population and economic policy. Following Bloom and Williamson¡]1998¡^, this paper seek to examine the links between several variables, such as demographic change , and economic growth, by running regressions on panel data covering 47 prefectures of Japan during 1975-2008. We found that population growth, age structure, physical capital and industrial structure did have significant impact on growth rates of Japan. Population growth as a whole and the young and elderly dependants had a strong negative impact on economic growth, while growth of the working-age population and physical capital had strong positive impact. The result shown that the economic growth of Japan was impeded for a few years since the age structure of population was shifted to constrictive type which is caused by baby bust and aging. We also tried different frameworks to examine the influence of various variables, such as selecting some prefectures with unique feature, segmenting seven major economic regions, or dividing years in two periods ¡]before and after the year with bubble economy 1989¡^. We can make a conclusion that comparing with the period 1975 -1989, the economic growth rate during 1990-2008 slumped due to the changes of age structure, physical capital and industrial structure.

Family Ties, Economic Resources, and the Well-Being of Older Adults Across Communities in China

Sereny, Melanie Dawn January 2013 (has links)

Many older adults in the developing world rely on their adult children for financial, instrumental, and emotional support. The People's Republic of China (PRC), which will experience rapid population aging in the current century, is no exception. Many scholars and policy-makers are concerned that rapid economic, social, and demographic change in China is leading to a decline in traditional support for aging parents. This study examines the impact of family ties and economic resources on the receipt of support and the health of older adults across communities in China at different levels of economic development.

I analyze data from the 2002 and 2008 waves of the Chinese Longitudinal Healthy Longevity Survey (CLHLS) as well as the 2000 and 2005 1% Chinese Census. Initiated in 1998, the CLHLS interviewed older adults residing in a random sample of counties and cities in 22 provinces and municipalities of China. Additionally, in 2002 a subset of adult children of CLHLS respondents were also interviewed in a separate survey. Furthermore, the 2008-2009 wave collected additional data from middle-aged and older adults residing in specially designated "longevity areas" in China. In addition to the standard questionnaire and health exam, samples of blood and urine were also collected by medical personnel.

The first empirical chapter of this dissertation examines the association between filial piety/altruism and financial transfers to aging parents from adult children using factor analysis, binary logistic regression, and linear regression. The second paper looks at the socioeconomic-status health gradient using biomarker data among older adults residing in longevity areas using binary logistic regression analysis. The third paper examines both individual-level and community-level determinants of non-normative intergenerational coresidence - living with an adult daughter instead of an adult son-- through multilevel binary logistic models analyzing both survey and census data.

I find that (1) adult children's attitudes towards filial piety and family values are associated with both presence and amount of financial transfers to older parents, net of controls for adult child's socioeconomic status, parental need, parents' earlier life transfers to children, and whether elderly parents' provide instrumental support to adult children. (2) Similar to previous research in middle-income countries, many biomarkers were not associated with socioeconomic status but those that were demonstrated a reversed gradient - higher socioeconomic status was associated with worse health. (3) Greater numbers of daughters, higher levels of individual socioeconomic status, and residing in a more developed community was associated with greater likelihood of coresidence with adult daughters versus adult sons.
/ Dissertation

Aging in an Era of Change: Contextualizing the Upcoming Demographic Shift in Marich Pass, North Western Kenya

Van De Keere, Laurel 23 November 2010 (has links)
Research on aging in low income countries tends to overlook socio-cultural dimensions, including the significance of change. Because countries like Kenya are expected to witness a demographic shift in coming years, and because different forms of change will place new pressures on existing resources during the same timeframe, there is a need to bridge this gap. This study therefore grapples with the following question: How is change shaping the characteristics and needs of Kenya‘s aging population? This thesis adopts a mixed methods approach informed by critical gerontology and life course perspectives to examine the aging experiences of Pokot elders living in Marich Pass, north western Kenya, in face of multi-scalar changes. Results highlight the challenges and opportunities created by change, and illuminate a need to develop resources to support informal caregivers, to buttress existing formal supports, and to develop additional formal supports to address the unique needs of Pokot elders.

No one is old here! Uses and interpretations of services provided by a Senior Activity Center in a low-income urban district of Peru / ¡Aquí nadie es viejo!

Ramos Bonilla, Gabriela 25 September 2017 (has links)
The article analyzes the uses and interpretations of the services of a Senior Activity Center program (Centros del Adulto Mayor - CAM) by its users and the professionals who direct it in a low-income urban district of Lima, Peru. Based on ethnographic research, and revealed the way a public policy builds an «ideal old age» which is promoted by their services. This is not passively assumed by the professionals who implement the program locally. They reinterpret their guidelines based on their common sense and experience which generates contradictions and a partial reproduction of prejudices related to old age. On the other hand, users use the program as a mechanism to deal with moments of crisis that were experienced at this stage of their lives. Also to oppose the hegemonic discourse of old age that doesn’t satisfy them. The CAM offers these opportunities but they don’t benefit all members uniformly because they don’t have the same resources or capacity. The program also creates discomfort between these elders because it isolates them conceptually and spatially when it calls them «seniors».

Dinâmica demográfica e a produção imobiliária em Porto Alegre/RS

Cabette, Amanda January 2015 (has links)
This paper seeks to understand and analyze the demographic dynamics in the different districts of the city of Porto Alegre-RS, coupled to the dynamics of the housing production in order to provide insight into the implementation of public policies. The increase of the elderly quota, the reduction in the fertility rate, low population growth, socio-spatial inequalities in central and peripheral areas of the city portray, at present, the production of urban space. The methodology adopted for this study consisted of three stages: the first corresponds to the literature, cartographic and 2010 Census data; the second part for the preparation of cartographic products through materials obtained, which were analyzed and organized so that the research objectives were achieved. Finally, the drafting and interpretation of results, through the systematization of data and produced during the work. He was part of this study also assess the real estate projects aimed at high income. Through the Real Estate SINDUSCON Census, we identify the main areas of real estate valuation, highlighting the population profiles. Thus, we can understand the territorial organization of the city, as a seemingly fragmented and segregated city, marked by the appreciation of the central areas and intensification of the urban periphery process. Through the spatial distribution of population aging process can identify and differentiate the focus for real estate appreciation, featuring a fragmented occupation process, added to social and spatial fragmentation of the city.

. / In contemporany societies, the educational and health areas are constantly concerned about the human aging because the social insertion of ederly people is really difficult. Statistical data confirm the population aging in Brazil with an increase in life expectancy; nevertheless, there are biological, psychological, economical and social implications of aging that must be considered. This paper was aimed at analyzing the influence of school and pedagogical practices on the construction of human aging and elderly subject concepts and also at investigating if these practices offer a favorable education for social insertion. Social concepts and representations related to human aing were evaluated by means of questionnaires answered by teachers, students, parents and employees in several public and private schools in Marília city (SP). The educational material used in these schools was analyzed and it was verified that, in general, it does not include the human aging topic. Official documents that direct the formal education, such as National Curricular Parameters, were also analysed. The results also showed that some teachers broach the topic by giving information about diseases, vital cycle, eating habits and thorugh interdiscipline with religious teaching, using educational strategies such as group assignments, research, reading of texts and observation of elderly people. Teachers, in general, consider it important to focus the topic during the classes because this can cause behavuir changes concerned to elderly people. Teachers, parents and studentes define elderly people as who have life experience and wisdom, while employees define them as people who need attention, respect and affction. Teachers point the family, the society itself and architectural barriers as social exclusion factors for elderly people. Students mention bank and...
