"Det brukar vara en häftad historia" : Att bevara och tillgängliggöra zines på Göteborgs universitetsbibliotek / “It’s usually some kind of unbound matter” : to preserve and to make zines available at the Gothenburg University LibraryBolinsson, Robin, Danielsson, Erik January 2019 (has links)
Based on two university libraries which represents the academic disciplines humanities and applied arts and design, this bachelor thesis examines how their respective collections of zines are handled in terms of preservation and availability. Furthermore, this bachelor thesis emphasises – by the help of Derrida’s and Cvetkovich’s theories of the archive, Bryant’s ontological realism, Frow’s literary frame and Plate’s new material turn – the need to broaden the view of zines as a physical artefact, and the meaning-bearing properties objects can have in and of itself. By the means of semi-structured interviews with librarians, complete with observations of the collections, this bachelor thesis also examines how different views and definitions of zines can have a substantial influence of how they are handled. This bachelor thesis also suggests that libraries need to take the inherent properties of zines – such as their socialfunctions – into consideration when planning on how to treat their collections.

Hoteliers' Perceptions of Sustainable Practices on Small Hotel Optimization: A Phenomenology InquiryRowe, Keneika 01 January 2018 (has links)
The management practices of the hotel industry are under scrutiny for having an adverse impact on the environment. This study addressed the problem that hoteliers in Jamaica only focus on foreign exchange earnings and job creation, rather than on sustainable development in their operations. There is a lack of research on small hoteliers' integration of sustainable practices in their operations. The purpose of this phenomenological study was to explore and understand the lived experiences of 8 small hotel managers on the effect sustainable practices have on small hotel optimization. The conceptual framework consisted of stakeholder theory and corporate social responsibility. Focusing on small hoteliers' perceptions of sustainable practices, the research questions addressed managers' efforts in preserving the local heritage, maintaining the economic and environment and identifying the challenges. The phenomenological design included 8 small hotel managers who participated in telephone, email and Skype unstructured interviews. The data analysis involved transcribing and coding unstructured interviews which resulted in the emergence of 14 themes and 101 subcategories. Results revealed that successful sustainable practices include providing education on the history, culture, and heritage and respecting the environment. The analysis from the transcripts showed that high cost was one of the primary factors for the lack of sustainable practices in small hotels. The findings also showed that there was a need for government assistance in providing funding and education on the benefits of sustainable practices and development. This study could contribute to new and existing hoteliers, government policymakers and business leaders in sustainable strategic planning and development.

Effects of Historic Preservation Policy on Urban Neighborhood StabilizationJordan, Lisa Vaughan 01 January 2018 (has links)
Since the 1960s, urban neighborhoods in the United States have been affected by historic designation and local historic preservation policy raising concerns about social inequity in housing and services, environmental resources, and economic challenges. Although there is consensus that the role of public policy in historic preservation decision-making is related to neighborhood stabilization, little is known about the extent of the impact. Using Ostrom's social-ecological systems theory as a guide, the purpose of this single case study of a historical district in the U.S. Mid-Atlantic region was to investigate the impact of implementation of local historic preservation policies and programs related to social and economic change. Data were collected from 11 interviews with residents and government officials and publicly available documents provided by the local government agency. These data were inductively coded and then subjected to thematic analysis. Findings indicate that areas of deficiency in historic preservation policy in the urban neighborhood affect social-economic systems due to the complex and integrated way that the components often work asynchronously. Collaboration between multiple types and levels of entities can offset the negatives and bolster the more positive aspects of historic preservation. The study includes recommendations to local government policy makers and organizations that emphasize the importance of integrated planning and development and the revision of current policy to reflect constituent needs. Maximizing the efficiency and operation of historic preservation policy may engender positive social change by optimizing economic impacts and lessening social disparities and environmental concerns, which may improve citizens' quality of life and affected areas' fiscal health.

Abstract: This research aims to evaluate the current uses proposed for the protected remnants of the Companhia Paulista de Estradas de Ferro (Jundiaí-SP), in relation to heritage preservation guidelines and policies. Currently the set is known as the FEPASA Complex and protected by the National Artistic and Historical Heritage Institute (Insti-tuto do Patrimônio Histórico e Artístico Nacional - IPHAN) since 2002. The methodol-ogy proposed in this study includes bibliographical and documentary research, use of georeferencing tool, interviews and other observational methods proposed in the Ap-proach and Values of Heritage (Abordagem e Valorização do Patrimônio - AVP) meth-odology, which aims to understand the values attributed by the community to the set protected. The evaluation of the uses attributed to the FEPASA Complex was made possible by mapping the data collected during the investigation. Finally, it was identi-fied that the perception of railway industrial heritage from the landscape scale can help in the identification and attribution of new uses to these heritage, since it covers the different foundations present in the conceptualization of heritage preservation, such as space, management and the social environment. / Mestre

Johnson City, Tennessee Zoning Map 1983Johnson City Planning Commission 27 September 1983 (has links)
Zoning map for the city of Johnson City and the outlying areas. Original map was drawn January 11, 1972 and was originally adopted by the city April 20, 1972. This revised map is a duplicate of the original and was produced September 27, 1983. This was likely when the hand drawn lines were added to update the zoning districts. Most main streets are also labeled with arterial streets notated by dotted lines. While not included in the legend, it is likely that R stands for residential and I for industrial.
East Tennessee State University can be found in zone R-6 located next to Greenwood Drive. The left portion of the map has been cut as you can see by the title Johnson City partially missing. No accompanying maps are found in the collection.

Bristol, Virginia City Map 1962First Tennessee-Virginia Development District 01 January 1962 (has links)
City map of Bristol, Virginia. While date is not printed on map, "1962" is written in pencil on the back. This is the assumed publication date. Sullins College, which closed in July 1976, being included confirms that publication at least predates the mid 1970s.
The legend includes the scale - 1"=500'. Road, railways, and large cemeteries are labeled. A few streets such as Midway Street and Memorial Drive are written by hand in blue ink. These additions were made at an indeterminate time post publication.

Ubiety in Nursing Practice — Making each patient the star of the minuteAmoah, Rita K. 30 July 2021 (has links)
PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to explore the experiences of registered nurses when practicing ubiety. SPECIFIC AIMS: The specific aims of the study were to: Describe the attributes of the nurse, the care environment, and the person-centered processes nurses needed to possess in order to immerse themselves physically, cognitively, and spiritually into caring for one patient at a time in midst of distractions Explore possible patient-related and nurse-related outcomes when caring for one patient at a time in amidst distractions
DESIGN: Qualitative descriptive study guided with the Person-Centered Nursing (PCN) Theory by McCormack and McCance, (2006). A purposive sampling technique was used.
RESULTS: 13 nurses, who were nominated to receive the Daisy Award were recruited. One overarching theme: Practicing Ubiety—Making the patient the star of that minute, and 5 subthemes emerged: anticipating and managing distractions, putting my whole self in, self-preservation, my nursing identity, favorable practice environment. In addition, patient-related and nurse-related outcomes were identified.
CONCLUSION: Ubiety is a concept that is practiced by expert nurses. Results add to existing knowledge about the characteristics of exemplar nurses who practice person-centered nursing care. The importance of anticipating patient needs as a way to deal with distractions and working with nurses to individualize self-preservation strategies are emphasized.
