The influence of the leader's emotional intelligence, role breadth self-efficacy and organisational climate on proactive work behaviour: A case of selected Customs Clearing companies in Zimbabwe

Choeni, Praise 18 May 2018 (has links)
MCom (Human Resource Management) / Department of human Resource Management and Labour Relations / Technological advancement and, social and economic issues affecting businesses present a multitude of opportunities and challenges to organisations, leaders and employees. These factors have prompted organisational role players to take responsibility in ensuring organisations’ survival. The study sought to determine the influence of the leaders’ emotional intelligence, role-breath self-efficacy and organisational climate on proactive work behaviour at selected customs clearing companies at the Beitbridge Border Post, Zimbabwe. A selfadministered questionnaire was used to collect data from a sample of 204 participants, using the simple random sampling technique. The Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) version 25 was used to perform descriptive and inferential statistics. The intercorrelation results showed that leaders’ emotional intelligence, role breadth self-efficacy and the organisational climate were positively and significantly correlated to proactive work behaviour. The following represent the intercorrelation results, leaders’ emotional intelligence (r = 0.34; p < 0.01), role breadth-self efficacy (r = 0.45; p< 0.01) and organisational climate (r= 0.31; p < 0.01). Furthermore, the stepwise multiple regression analysis identified six models in the prediction of proactive work behaviour. Of all the six models identified, the most significant predictor of proactive work behaviour was role breadth self-efficacy (β = 0.46, p < 0.001) with a contribution of 20.7% on proactive work behaviour. The findings were discussed in line with the literature, and the study concludes that employee proactivity at work may differ, based on the leaders’ emotional intelligence, the employees’ role breadth self-efficacy and the organisational climate. The study, therefore, recommends that organisations should take into consideration the factors which influence their employees’ proactivity at work, hence develop programmes to assist the enhancement of such proactiveness. / NRF

Consumers’ perception of Femvertising as a Digital Marketing Strategy in the Beauty- and Apparel Industry : A Qualitative Study of Swedish Gen Z Consumers

Borssén Myrén, Lovisa, Danås, Annie January 2022 (has links)
This paper is about femvertising which is used as a strategy within marketing to attract female consumers. This strategy is done by companies by pushing for gender equality and female empowerment in their ads. There is a lack of research regarding how femvertising affects consumers' purchase intentions and buying behavior. Further research also needs to be done examining female portrayals on digital platforms. The study is done with a qualitative method and inductive approach. In this paper, 20 respondents have participated in in-depth interviews and the respondents are all born between 1995 to 1998, which is called Gen Z, and are also all women. The paper is based on finding codes and converting them into categories which results in themes based on the different interviews. The conclusion of the paper is that social media are leading to purchases due to the possibility of targeting its consumers. Although, consumers easily tend to feel monitored when companies use them for targeting. Influencers can be successful for companies to use if the fit is good so it generates trust for the consumer. Another conclusion is that companies need to use different female portrayals, showing women in all of their uniqueness for them to be more relatable. Social media is an important part when it comes to if consumers will make purchases as it makes information and products easily accessible. Femvertising needs to shine through all of the company, not only the advertising. Companies should also monitor which type of WOM is out there about them as the point of view of other consumers is weighing heavily in affecting purchase intentions.

Just world beliefs, sense of coherence and proactive coping in parents with a child with autism

Meiring, Corne Jeanne 14 June 2011 (has links)
Parents of children diagnosed with autism, a disease characterised with difficulty in speech, behaviour and language, experience chronic stress more than in any other developmental disorder. Outcomes of chronic stress in this regard are often associated with uncertain expectations of the future where current stressors are exuberated and future expectations are negated. Thinking about the future has been noted to contribute positive psychological functioning. Authors have, however, noted that some parents of autistic children are able to conceptualise positive future expectations in the mists of stressful current realities whilst using proactive coping strategies. Proactive coping literature has predominantly focused on situational characteristics and, to a lesser extent, on dispositional characteristics The relationship between dispositional characteristics - belief in just world, sense of coherence in relation to proactive coping is investigated in parents raising a child diagnosed with autism. Constructs were operationalised through the Orientation to Life Questionnaire (Antonovsky, 1987), Global Belief in Just World Scale (Lipkus, 1991), Reactions to Daily Life Questionnaire (Greenglass, 2002) and a demographic questionnaire. A cross-sectional correlational design consisting of a sample of 30 (n = 30) parents with children with autism was conducted. SPSS ver12 was used for analysis, which included both descriptive and inferential analysis. Inferential statistics included the Independent T-Test and analysis of variance (ANOVA) to analyse independence of the sample, and Spearman Rho correlations were used to test possible correlations between constructs. The small sample size precluded more advanced statistical manipulation of data. Open ended questions were analysed through a process of content analysis. The interpretation of results showed no significant differences between independent variables (e.g. age, gender, adjustment level of child) and constructs measured. Results of the correlational analysis indicated positive correlations between (i) belief in just world andproactive coping, (ii) sense of coherence and proactive coping as well as (iii) the sense of coherence (meaningfulness) subscale and proactive coping. No relationship was found between belief in just world and proactive coping. These results indicate that these dispositional characteristics can be associated with proactive coping and that belief in just world and sense of coherence who share similar theoretical underpinnings may have different predictor values. Qualitative results suggest that parents who engage in future oriented thinking and proactive coping strategies such as planning activities and social engagements often display higher levels of just world beliefs. The present study contributes to theoretical knowledge by providing insight into the relationships between constructs with regards to proactive coping in parents who experince chronic stress, by illustrating convergence and distinctiveness between constructs. Furthermore, knowledge was gained on the influence of dispositional characteristics on proactive coping strategies, seeing as how previous research primarily focused on situational characteristics. Practical applications of the results offer insight into coping processes of parents of children diagnosed with autism with specific reference to proactive coping which ultimately implicates the applicability value of future oriented therapeutic interventions for these families. Insight into the goals of parents and the daily challenges they face will furthermore assist the helping profession and support groups to provide effective support strategies. / Dissertation (MEd)--University of Pretoria, 2010. / Educational Psychology / unrestricted

Rozdíly v odměňování žen a mužů v Evropské unii / The Gender Pay Gap within the European Union

Ederová, Michaela January 2016 (has links)
The thesis describes the gender pay gap and evaluates it from the view of the European Union and the Member States. It focuses on the measures and instruments that have been developed to tackle the causes of the gender pay gap. The definition of the pay gap is given and the gender and gender roles are described. The gender pay gap as a systematic underpayment of women is measured using adjusted and unadjusted data. The thesis concerns with primary causes of the gender pay gap, such as the horizontal and vertical segregation, differences in human capital, or discrimination. It deals with the gender pay gap at the level of the European Union and at the level of the individual Members States. The role of the European Union is described and assessed as well as its legislative and non-legislative instruments. The focus is on the proactive measures that contribute to solving the primary causes of the gender pay gap. The positive action measures and family-friendly measures are presented.

Communication centrée sur les utilisateurs et les contenus dans les réseaux sans fil / User-centric content-aware communication in wireless networks

Chen, Zheng 16 December 2016 (has links)
This thesis focuses on several emerging technologies towards future wireless networks with envisaged improvement on the area spectral efficiency and energy efficiency. The related research involves two major directions, including deviceto- device (D2D) communication underlaid cellular networks and proactive caching at network edge. The first part of this thesis starts with introducing D2D underlaid cellular network model and distributed access control methods for D2D users that reuse licensed cellular uplink spectrum. We aim at optimize the throughput of D2D network in the following two scenarios: 1) assuming always backlogged cellular users with coverage probability constraint, 2) assuming bursty packet arrivals at the cellular user, whose average delay must be kept below a certain threshold. The second part of this thesis focuses on proactive caching methods at network edge, including at small base stations (SBSs) and user devices. First, we study and compare the performance of probabilistic content placement in different types of wireless caching networks and with different optimization objectives. Second, we propose a cooperative caching and transmission strategy in a cluster-centric small cell networks (SCNs), which exploits the combined gain of cache-level cooperation and CoMP technique. Using spatial models from stochastic geometry, we build the connection between PHY transmission diversity and the content diversity in local caches.

Skillnader i proaktiv interferens i arbetsminnet mellan barn i åldrarna 8–11 år / Differences in Proactive Interference in Working Memory in Children Aged 8-11

Apel, Markus January 2021 (has links)
Proactive interference means that old irrelevant information in working memory remains active and inhibits recall of new relevant information. Previous research has demonstrated age-related differences between younger and older adults in such a way that older adults are more susceptible to the inhibiting effect of proactive interference. But how does proactive interference affect children? The purpose of this study was to investigate age-related differences as well as gender differences in school-aged children with the expectation that younger children like the older adults may be more susceptible to the influence of proactive interference. A 2-back-lure working memory test was used to investigate the influence of proactive interference among a total of 69 participants aged 8-11 years. The results indicate insignificant age-related differences with regards to reaction time, F(2,53) = 2.360, p = .105, as well as accuracy, F(2,53) = .409, p = .667. A one way ANOVA did however indicate significant gender-differences for reaction time, F(2,53) = 3.927, p = .026, but not for accuracy, F(2,53) = 1.131, p = .331. The results indicate that there are no age-related differences between these age groups but that girls may experience more interference than boys.

Integrating recommender systems into domain specific modeling tools

Nair, Arvind 09 March 2017 (has links)
Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) / This thesis investigates integrating recommender systems into model-driven engineering tools powered by domain-specific modeling languages. The objective of integrating recommender systems into such tools is overcome a shortcoming of proactive modeling where the modeler must inform the model intelligence engine how to progress when it cannot automatically determine the next modeling action to execute (e.g., add, delete, or edit). To evaluate our objective, we integrated a recommender system into the Proactive Modeling Engine, which is a add-on for the Generic Modeling Environment (GME). We then conducted experiments to both subjective and objectively evaluate the enhancements to the Proactive Modeling Engine. The results of our experiments show that integrating recommender system into the Proactive Modeling Engine results in an Average Reciprocal Hit-Rank (ARHR) of 0.871. Likewise, the integration results in System Usability Scale (SUS) rating of 77. Finally, user feedback shows that the integration of the recommender system to the Proactive Modeling Engine increases the usability and learnability of domain-speci c modeling tools.

VYUŽITÍ KONCEPTU CELOŽIVOTNÍ HODNOTY ZÁKAZNÍKA VE STRATEGICKÉM ŘÍZENÍ FIREM / USING THE CONCEPT OF CUSTOMER LIFE-TIME VALUE IN STRATEGIC MANAGEMENT COMPANIES

Hanzelka, Michael January 2017 (has links)
This paper aims to define methods for measuring CLV in the segment of internal customers of companies operating in the financial market. It's about finding such a method to determine the value of internal customers to predict and measure whether an internal customer pays off to the company. The standalone task is to quantify the internal customer's contributions to the overall value of the company. The area of CLV determination for internal customers of the company is not described in the literature. From this point of view, the determination of CLV internal customers in the strategic management system will be a major scientific achievement. Similarly to external customers (markets), as well as internal customers express greater or lesser affinities with their behavior and performance, in the first case the brand and in the latter case the employer. Therefore, CLV modeling for internal customers requires qualified predictions and expressions of a whole range of both hard (eg, cash flow indicators) and Soft (indicators of qualitative research such as loyalty) of indicators and their use in the calculation of CLV internal customers. An important prerequisite for CLV for both internal customers is their segmentation.
