Bestbier, Anna Maria 30 November 2005 (has links)
Text in Afrikaans / The Gestalt Play Therapeutic approach is used as contextual frame in this research where-in music is applied as an aid for the aggressive emotions of the primary learner. Emotional and behavioral problems in children in primary and secondary schools and even in pre-primary schools, are assuming alarming proportions. From the holistic approach of the Gestalt theory, it has an influence on the development of areas such as the emotional, physical, cognitive and social in the phase of middle childhood. There is a lack of research findings on the effect of music during support to the aggressive primary learner within a Gestalt Play Therapeutic frame. The experimental single system design was used as research method as part of the quantitative investigation. The conclusion is that music was used successfully in the handling of rage and aggressive emotions in the group of child respondents within the context of the Gestalt approach. / Social Work / M.Diac.

Anjert, Katarina January 2018 (has links)
The education system has historically had a reactive rather than a proactive approach to its customers, that is, students' needs and the conditions for achieving the school's goals. A reactive way of working is still the norm, although today we are aware that the effect of reactive improvements is limited. We are in a paradigm shift where the education system seeks to find models that are based on a modern view of quality, which means putting the customer's needs at the center.   The aim of the study is to contribute further knowledge of how we can drive quality improvements, thus increasing customer value within the Swedish education system. The study is conducted with a systematic literature review of articles on the model Response to Intervention. Categorization is based on Bergman and Klefsjö (2012) model for quality development based on customer needs and satisfaction, and Österbergs (2014) structural quality dimension.   The prerequisites for driving quality improvements using the RTI model can be summarized with; competent staff, the right equipment for carrying out and analyzing screenings of the students, as well as time and support for the work. All the values in the quality management model are mentioned in the articles, which allows us to assume that the RTI model can be used to develop quality and create customer value in the school.   It also requires a culture that values measurement and working with data in order for the RTI model to contribute to quality development. Since the US school system, where the RTI model has been applied so far, is more result-oriented than the Swedish, we assume that the US system is more beneficial for the implementation of the model to be successful. / <p>2018-06-27</p>

Adaptive Fault Tolerance Strategies for Large Scale Systems

George, Cijo January 2012 (has links) (PDF)
Exascale systems of the future are predicted to have mean time between node failures (MTBF) of less than one hour. At such low MTBF, the number of processors available for execution of a long running application can widely vary throughout the execution of the application. Employing traditional fault tolerance strategies like periodic checkpointing in these highly dynamic environments may not be effective because of the high number of application failures, resulting in large amount of work lost due to rollbacks apart from the increased recovery overheads. In this context, it is highly necessary to have fault tolerance strategies that can adapt to the changing node availability and also help avoid significant number of application failures. In this thesis, we present two adaptive fault tolerance strategies that make use of node failure pre-diction mechanisms to provide proactive fault tolerance for long running parallel applications on large scale systems. The first part of the thesis deals with an adaptive fault tolerance strategy for malleable applications. We present ADFT, an adaptive fault tolerance framework for long running malleable applications to maximize application performance in the presence of failures. We first develop cost models that consider different factors like accuracy of node failure predictions and application scalability, for evaluating the benefits of various fault tolerance actions including check-pointing, live-migration and rescheduling. Our adaptive framework then uses the cost models to make runtime decisions for dynamically selecting the fault tolerance actions at different points of application execution to minimize application failures and maximize performance. Simulations with real and synthetic failure traces show that our approach outperforms existing fault tolerance mechanisms for malleable applications yielding up to 23% improvement in work done by the application in the presence of failures, and is effective even for petascale and exascale systems. In the second part of the thesis, we present a fault tolerance strategy using adaptive process replication that can provide fault tolerance for applications using partial replication of a set of application processes. This fault tolerance framework adaptively changes the set of replicated processes (replicated set) periodically based on node failure predictions to avoid application failures. We have developed an MPI prototype implementation, PAREP-MPI that allows dynamically changing the replicated set of processes for MPI applications. Experiments with real scientific applications on real systems have shown that the overhead of PAREP-MPI is minimal. We have shown using simulations with real and synthetic failure traces that our strategy involving adaptive process replication significantly outperforms existing mechanisms providing up to 20% improvement in application efficiency even for exascale systems. Significant observations are also made which can drive future research efforts in fault tolerance for large and very large scale systems.

Proactivity and sustainable transition at the fish counter? : A study about ecological sustainability regarding fish at four ICA Kvantum supermarkets within the Stockholm region

Johansson, Jerker January 2012 (has links)
Fish and shellfish are important sources of protein for the world population. Nearly 50 percent of fish and shellfish products originate from aquaculture, and the rest comes from traditional fishing. The marine stocks are under threat from unsustainable fishing practices. Together with fishing, aquaculture constitutes extra stress on the marine stocks and ecosystems. Aquaculture also causes other environmental side effects. International trade rules do not sufficiently take care of the ecological problems. Voluntary initiatives, like ecolabels, are one way of dealing with the problems. This thesis does an attempt to, from an environmental science perspective, analyze how the fish counters at four ICA Kvantum stores in the Stockholm region work with ecological sustainability issues with regards to fish and shellfish. The overall purpose is to examine the shops’ historical, current and potential future work and to analyze if the work is conducted in a proactive, reactive or in a passive way. The main findings include that the knowledge, sustainability statuses, responsiveness, and changes in time, and the intentions or plans for the future differed a lot between the different shops. Furthermore, many of the investigated potential problem areas seemed to constitute problems in practice. Additionally, it seemed like additional pressure may be needed if the aggregated ecological status should be raised. The research method consisted of case studies with semistructured qualitative interviews and analysis of corporate documents, and a minor quantitative investigation of the frozen assortment at the stores.

The development and evaluation of a measure of graduate employability in the context of the new world of work

Bezuidenhout, Mareli 08 October 2011 (has links)
Rapid forces for change in the post-modern society have left their mark on the labour market, creating a metamorphosis in the nature of work and the way in which careers should be approached. This has resulted in the need for individuals to possess a combination of attributes that will enable them to take an adaptive, proactive approach to their careers, which involves managing their employability. Employability is especially relevant to graduates, who are expected to acquire more than academic capabilities to ‘hit the ground running’ in their transition from higher education to the workplace. Despite the significance of the topic, it remains conceptually ambiguous with few empirical studies that explain its foundation, and fewer still that have constructed a measure explicitly gauging employability, particularly in South Africa. The main purpose of this study was to develop and evaluate a measure of graduate employability in the context of the new world of work. A theoretical model of graduate employability was developed based on an extensive review of the literature and the Graduate Employability Measure (GEM) was subsequently constructed. A cross-sectional survey was utilised to collect data from a random sample of final-year undergraduates and postgraduates from the College of Economic and Management Sciences at a higher distance learning institution in South Africa. The 272 useable questionnaires returned were subjected to exploratory factor analysis, which revealed a reliable three-factor model consisting of the dimensions of career self-management drive, career resilience and cultural competence, and explaining 36.42%, 3.5% and 2.97% of the variance respectively. Analysis of variance was used to determine whether there were any significant differences between the biographical variables of the sample and the GEM factors. It was found that females and final-year undergraduates obtained significantly higher means on all the GEM dimensions than males and postgraduates respectively. The findings inform the conceptualisation of the employability construct, the elements it consists of, and how it can be measured in a valid and reliable manner. The GEM has the potential to be useful to students in a career guidance context, to employers that desire to select and develop highly adaptable employees, and to higher education, which can incorporate these important employability attributes in the curriculum to deliver highly employable graduates. / Dissertation (MCom)--University of Pretoria, 2011. / Human Resource Management / unrestricted

: En vetenskaplig essä om barns delaktighet i sin egen konflikthantering / ”Say sorry now, it’s time for class!” : A scientific essay about pupils own participation in the process of solving their conflicts

Bennetter, Teten January 2020 (has links)
”Say sorry now, it’s time for class” is a scientific essay written with the purpose of investigating to what degree we allow the pupils to take part in the process of solving conflicts. Do we let the pupil’s own thoughts, feelings and ideas be a part of the solution when solving conflicts or do we as teachers take over in these situations? The essay starts with a story portraying situation which is difficult to interpret that I have experienced in my profession in the afterschool care. The story depicts how teachers speak to pupils in different situations and how we talk to them when they are upset. The dilemmas I experienced in these situations are what brought me to this scientific essay. The method used in the scientific essay is writing with a hermeneutic approach, this means that I will focus on my own experiences and thoughts. I will reference literature and theories thereby deepening my reflections in order to learn from my own actions and evolve in my role as extended school teacher. Ross Greene’s theory of CPS (collaborative &amp; proactive solutions) is the most prominent theory in this essay.

An investigation of children's aggression in the foundation phase : a socio-education perspective

Padayichie, Kumaree 11 1900 (has links)
This study served to highlight the aggressive nature of learners in the Foundation Phase, namely of those who are between the ages of 5 to 6 years. The project is based on qualitative research, and the data were collected from three primary schools in the northern suburbs of Johannesburg. Interviews were conducted with two principals, three educators and three parents. Four learners were used in order to gather further information on the causes of the aggressive behaviour of learners. Their input assisted the researcher to understand the various discipline structures within the school and also, how parents and educators manage the aggressive behaviour of learners. The study sought to identify whether primary and secondary socialisation, and the influence of the media are related to learners behaving aggressively. The information collected confirmed that children model the behaviour of adults and of their peers. The principals and the educators were of the opinion that positive primary socialisation is of the utmost importance, as it lays the foundation for future socialisation. / Educational Studies / M. Vad driver revisorers proaktiva hållbarhetsarbete? What Influences Auditors' Proactive CSR Work? : A Quantitative Study that Explains Auditors' Proactive CSR Work on the basis of Individual- and Agency Specific Factors

Nilsson, Freja, Persson, Caroline January 2020 (has links)
Demand for CSR information is increasing in today’s society. At the same time, previous studies show some serious deficiencies in CSR reporting. Researchers have also found that CSR reports certified by a financial auditor are perceived as more credible. CSR services are a growing business area in the audit industry, and a proactive CSR work among auditors can be discerned. As far as we are aware, there has yet to be any research conducted on what influences auditors’ proactive CSR work. The purpose of this study is to explain what influences auditors’ proactive CSR work based on four individual- and agency specific factors. The research question is: To what extent are auditors’ proactive CSR work explained by four individual- and agency specific factors? Legitimacy-, professional-, and institutional theory, and literature that deals with CSR reporting, autonomy, proactive behavior and our four factors has been used as a theoretical framework. Based on the literature, six hypotheses have been formed, which later have been empirically tested. Data was collected through a web-based survey which was sent via e-mail to Swedish auditors. The results show that there is a positive relationship between auditors’ proactive CSR work and competence, dedication to sustainability issues – professionally as well as private, and high hierarchical position. It was not possible to demonstrate that agency affiliation or time in the industry would be an explanatory factor for auditors’ proactive CSR work. The main contributions of this study are to provide the audit industry with insights into what influences auditors’ proactive CSR work. The study also informs society that auditors’ proactive CSR work can benefit the sustainable development.
