Exploring the sensory compatibility of ten children with autism and their mothers.

Pillay, Sarosha. January 2008 (has links)

Children with autism typically present with sensory processing difficulties that affect their ability to relate to people. This qualitative study focused on exploring the sensory processing of children with autism and their mothers, using a frame of reference of sensory integration theory. The purpose of the study was to help mothers gain knowledge and understanding into their own sensory processing so that they could develop a better understanding of their child&rsquo / s sensory processing in order to facilitate better mother-child relationships. An evaluation tool, the Sensory Profiles by Dunn (1999) and the Adolescent/Adult Sensory Profile by Brown &amp / Dunn (2002) was used as the instrument for gathering information on sensory processing. The population consisted of ten sets of mothers and their children with autism who attend Vera School for Learners with Autism. The Sensory&nbsp / rofiles was completed to investigate the phenomenological issues regarding the sensory modulation aspects of the parent-child relationship. Each mother received individual feedback on their own and their child&rsquo / s sensory processing. Two focus groups were then conducted with the mothers to determine the value of the information gained from the&nbsp / rofiles. Data consisted of two audio taped feedback from the focus group. Data was analysed for emerging themes. The three major themes that emerged were, (a) You realize&nbsp / ow similar you are to your child, (b) I also have needs (c) They walk away and leave you with this wreck of a child. The findings of the study suggest that an understanding of&nbsp / ensory processing can influence the mother-child relationship positively.

Bestimmung von relevanten Veränderungen des Mundgesundheitszustandes

Krautz, Martin 17 January 2011 (has links) (PDF)

Schachner, Werner, Stocker, Alexander, Tochtermann, Klaus 15 May 2014 (has links) (PDF)

Wind Power Potential in Palestine/Israel : An investigation study for the potential of wind power in Palestine/Israel, with emphasis on the political obstacles

Odeh, Yousre January 2011 (has links)
Wind resource assessment studies have been conducted in the Israeli side and the Palestinian side before; however, the previous studies were restricted with the political border either Palestinian or Israeli except one of them that was based on measurements dated to 1940-1983 (R. Shabbaneh & A. Hasan, 1997). Moreover, the studies were performed years ago, with simple techniques and based on old data (R. Shabbaneh & A. Hasan, 1997). Hence, the needs for a new study that is based on updated data, and using updated model is highly demanded. This study is intended to perform wind resource assessment in Palestine/Israel; the study has used two stages of assessment, primary one based on reference station data on both sides, Israeli and Palestinian. The second stage of wind resource assessment is based on WindPRO software. The wind resource assessment ends up with identifying sites with higher potential that are situated in four selected sites, North of Palestine/Israel, North of West-bank, Jerusalem, and Eilat, the higher potential was in Eilat area bearing mean wind speed of 9.88m/s at 100 m hub height. Moreover, the study recognized the importance of political situation assessment due to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Based on conducted survey, the political situation assessment concluded that international non-governmental organizations seem to be most capable of starting up wind power project in Palestine/Israel. Furthermore, the study concluded that supportive policies from both the Israeli and Palestinian governments are crucial to promote wind power projects in the region.

Timm, Maria Isabel January 2005 (has links)
This work describes and discusses engineering profile from historical, cultural and cognitive perspectives, in an attempt to fit contemporary needs based on the multidisciplinary paradigm of Cognitive Sciences. Emphasis is given to Steven Pinker’s book How the mind works and other bibliographic research reported within the Engineering domain. Needs of contemporary Engineering education are analyzed, choosing a pedagogical strategy compatible with the described profile. Didactic project making was the chosen strategy - it comprises the same cognitive structure of the professional activity, including way of thinking, mental operations, behavior, attitude and states of mind. It can also be seen as a theoretical, practical, decision making and living context that supports long term memory consolidation and, as a consequence, supports the activity of learning, following ideas presented by Roger Schank’s book Dynamic Memory Revisited. The work follows a distance learning course based on the same cognitive paradigm chosen to represent the adopted model and strategy. The strategy is based on e-learning-by-doing model introduced by Roger Schank’s book Designing world-class e-learning, which is adopted to plan and to implement an experimental distance course for a project on Geotechnical Engineering, to masters students from the Civil Engineering Graduation Program at Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul, coordinated by professor Fernando Schnaid. The experience is reported and results are qualitatively analyzed with excellent responses from students in both participation and performance. Theoretical and conceptual multidisciplinary frameworks proved to be a reach framework to present and future research related to Engineering education, engineering profile, didactic use of projects adopting the e-learning-by-doing model. This concept can be applied to graduate and undergraduate courses and to teachers´ continuous education. The work is part of the requirements designed to obtain a PhD degree at the Informatics applied to Education Graduation Program (PPGIE), from Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS), Brazil, in the research line of “Paradigms for the Research on Scientific and Technological Education”.

It delves into the field of Marketing study with an exploratory research approach to developing a consumer profile. By reviewing current market trends and analyzing results of survey data collected for the purpose of this study, it attempts to create an initial consumer profile using demographic and behavioral characteristics. Attaining an understanding of the target consumer is a crucial factor in determining a market entry strategy for new businesses and can also provide already existing businesses with a road map to achieving their full potential. Knowing who is most likely to buy your product aids the business in crafting the most appealing brand story for their target demographic. It also provides an understanding of where they frequent and what sales channels might be most attractive. As such, the relevance of this study lies in its ability to provide a starting point of reference for African brands, designers and retailers looking to expand their reach in the U.S. market place. Results of the study revealed a predominance of female buyers between the age of 30 to 35 years of age, living within the Mid-Atlantic region of the U.S. with buying patterns which indicated a preference for in-person shopping experiences versus online, and a tendency to purchase bargain items while seeking authenticity in the designs purchased, with a keenness towards supporting artisans on the continent. Further research into the subject matter is recommended, and should be aimed at achieving a more robust review of quantitative data as well as an expanded scope of qualitative research.

No. of bitstreams: 1 RESUMO Samanta Rattis.pdf: 133512 bytes, checksum: 4f32bb1bce627b4748ef2be8e61db742 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2014-08-28 / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / The PROFILE PD scale was developed specifically to evaluate patients with Parkinson‟s disease (PD) within the contexts surrounding the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health, being directly applied to physical therapy practice. The aim of this study was to perform the translation and cross-cultural adaptation of PROFILE PD scale to Portuguese-Brazil, and to analyze its reliability, validity and other psychometric properties. Thirty three individuals with PD participated in the study. We assessed the clarity of the Brazilian version of the scale assessed by physiotherapists, presence of floor and ceiling effects, inter-rater and test-retest reliabilities, in addition to discriminant validity, concurrent validity (UPDRS), internal consistency, and minimal detectable change (MDC). The understanding level of physical therapists showed high clarity of the scale. Considering total score, the inter-rater and test-retest reliability showed an intra-class correlation coefficient (ICC) of 0.74 and 0.99 respectively. The analysis of concurrent validity showed the Spearman correlation between PROFILE PD Brazilian version and UPDRS with ρ=0.87. ANOVA oneway showed that PROFILE PD Brazilian version is able to discriminate the subject with PD in mild and moderate stages, and in mild and severe stages. A high internal consistency was found (α=0.90). MDC was 2.41 points and there were no floor and ceiling effects. So, the Brazillian version of PROFILE PD is a reliable and valid instrument that can be used to quantify impairments in body structure and function and limitations of activity and participation in early and mild-stages of PD and can provide an overall summary of the impact of disease being useful for physiotherapeutic practice.

Pereira, Paulo Vinícius Rocha 24 August 2015 (has links)
Considered the testudine that has been most kept in captivity as a pet due to its extensive illegal trade, Chelonoidis carbonaria species (tortoise-piranga or red-leg-tortoise) is widely distributed in South America and Brazil . The objective was to measure the changes in protein compounds, metabolites, minerals, electrolytes and serum enzyme in Chelonoidis carbonaria held captive using analytical methods routinely used in clinical laboratories, as this dosages are laboratory tests used in veterinary medical clinic for the important contribution that provide diagnosis and prognosis of metabolic changes that affect these animals. For this, used were 25 specimens from C. Carbonaria. Was performed on each animal both sexes, Blood collection Serum for subsequent biochemical analysis. Analyses were processed in automatic analyzer (Flexor XL). It was observed that the results of the serum biochemical constituents C. carbonaria evaluated to show no significant differences in mean observed for other species Testudines, the differences being observed probably due to the difference managements, diet and normal physiological variations different species. There were no significant differences between males and females for the studied parameters and the values obtained for glucose levels in venous blood obtained by enzymatic colorimetric method (GVE) and digital glucometer (GVG). Analytical techniques routinely employed for biochemical tests appear to be suitable for determining the biochemical profiles of these animals with the exception of gamma glutamyltransferase (GGT) and creatine kinase enzyme (CK) and creatine kinase MB (CK-MB) showed wide variations of standard deviations. The results of this study can contribute to the interpretation of biochemical parameters of tortoises as well as support other studies that seek to reference values for the species.
