Globalization and advanced manufacturing technologies have forced manufacturing firms to increase productivity while reducing costs. At the same time, customers are increasingly demanding better products considering tangible (e.g., smell, color, taste, texture, etc.) and intangible (e.g., mark, fair treading environmental responsability) attributes. Coffee is one of the most important agricultural products in the world market, considered the driving force of socio-economic development for many regions, besides being produced on every continent. Is worth be emphasized that coffee is one of the most consumed beverages in the world and is the second largest commodity traded after oil. For the Brazilian economy, the coffee is a traditional activity and of large insertion in the international market. It is responsible for generating a large number of jobs in all sectors of the economy, ranging from the sectors of machinery, equipment and supplies, through production in the field and industry to the service sector, such as logistics and trade. Currently, Brazil consolidates a position as the largest producer and exporter of coffee, accounting for 30% of the international coffee market. Therefore we analyze the coffee production process in order to increase the system’s production capacity and reduce costs simultaneously, are due to the operation, maintenance, on-time execution of tasks or idle equipment. Such analysis when properly applied, is able to show the main points of bottleneck, on which production managers must stay focused and optimize them in order to increase the competitive advantage of the company. The evaluation of the performance of the manufacturing process is very important to detect problems in the production process (ex .: bottlenecks), as well as elements to reduce costs, since faults generate costs in development, production and during service (B., 2008). The pure performance analysis of manufacturing processes assumes that the processes do not fail. This hypothesis is not true, since most manufacturing processes can continue to operate even in the presence of faults. Therefore, the performance of the combined analysis of performance and availability, call performability, is essential. This work presents a stochastic model for performability evaluation and planning of coffee manufacturing process aiming to reduce the cost and time of the production cycle. An industrial case study shows the practical usability of the proposed models and techniques. Besides, the estimates obtained from the model show that the proposed approach is indeed a good approximation to the respective measures obtained from the real coffee manufacturing process.

Kritisk design i en digital videoproduktion : En explorativ studie i praktisk tillämpning av kritisk design / Critical design i a digital video production : An explorative study in practical appliance of critical design

Alexandersson, Viktor, Faber, Adrian January 2013 (has links)
Critical design is a research- and innovationarea under development. The critical design theory has been used in many design-related areas and intends to get consumers to become more critical when it comes to how their everyday lives are controlled by different beliefs, values, ideologies and behavioral patterns that are incorporated into design (Dunne & Raby, 2001). Since critical design is a theory that seeks to transform in practice the challenge today lies in creating practical examples that show how it can be done, which is a necessity for the theory to develop (Bardzell et al., 2012). This study intends to be method developing by creating a set of tools based on selected parts (theoretical methods and perspectives) from critical design. The goal of these tools are to function as an instrument enabling practical implementation of critical design in a design/production process. In this study we have tested our tools in a specific productionprocess of a music video to explore how to apply critical design practically. In doing so we used design-oriented research methods, in particular Daniel Fällmans triangelmodel for interactiondesign and design research (2008). By bringing together critical design perspectives and video production purposes, this study hopes to make a contribution to the method fulfilling work of bridging the existing gap between theory and practice in critical design.

Potential for Peace Journalism? : Exploring the factors that influenced the coverage of Hong Kong’s Anti-Extradition protests

Hansen, Maike January 2020 (has links)
The coverage of news media on conflicts increasingly became the subject of criticism, accused of sensationalism, oversimplification, and underrepresentation of certain issues. While recognizing that it is the journalists and editors that make choices regarding the collection and framing of the stories and accounts published in newspapers and digital media outlets, this thesis sets to understand these choices against the background of the web of structural constraints pertaining to professional, organizational, economic and political contexts of their work. Drawing on a theoretical perspective of Peace Journalism and Bläsi’s model of factors influencing conflict-coverage, this thesis explores what factors influenced the coverage of Hong Kong’s Anti-Extradition protests and how they can be seen as hindrances or facilitators for Peace Journalism. The study presents the results of a qualitative content analysis of material obtained through semi-structured expert interviews with four journalists who covered the protests on-site. The findings display that factors pertaining to the journalistic system, personal features of the journalist, lobbies, conflict situation on-site, public climate, and audience were playing a significant role in shaping the news production throughout the Anti-Extradition protests. A majority of these factors were identified as limiting rather than facilitating Peace Journalism. This study suggests that in order to have a relevant and lasting impact, Peace Journalism needs to formulate strategies that consider the realities journalists face on the ground and factors influencing conflict coverage that pose limitations to its practice.

Bobadilla Loli, Patricia Rosana, Peirano De La Cruz, Giancarlo 02 September 2021 (has links)
Aquaculture has positioned in the world as one of the production alternatives to satisfy the food demands of the future. Návrh robotického pracoviště pro automatické zakládání termostatických hlavic / Design of robotic workstation for automated insertion of thermostatic heads

Kubovčík, Peter January 2019 (has links)
The objective of this master thesis is to design a robotic work cell for automated insertion of thermostatic heads. The proposed design was based on the comprehensive analysis of the current workplace. By taking the demands of the company and customer into consideration, several possibilities of the robotic work cell design were proposed, from which the most suitable one was chosen and carefully elaborated. During the process of designing, several safety standards had to be taken into consideration in order to mitigate risks. For that purpose, a risk analysis was conducted as well. Using the Siemens Process Simulate software, the proposed robotic work cell concept was verified, including cycle time analysis. The last part of the thesis is an assessment of the initial expenditures of the robotic work cell equipment, as well as the return of the investment calculation. Drawing of the robotic work cell layout is attached to the thesis.

IN-BETWEEN: PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT STUDY THROUGH INDUSTRIAL AND EXPERIMENTAL APPROACHES / IN-BETWEEN: PRODUKTUTVECKLINGSSTUDIE GENOM INDUSTRIELLA OCH EXPERIMENTELLA METODER

Marie-Rose, Aymerick January 2021 (has links)
Experimental design is a practice operating at the limit between craftmanship, art and technology. In collaboration with the studio breadeEscalope (Vienna, Austria) this project oscillates between research and production to study the link between industrial and experimental approach to design.  Hitherto initiated from an impulse or a problem requiring solution, the action of designing suggest a product or a service to fulfill needs. In industrial design, the creative process follows contextually anchored steps to frame, define, develop and deliver. For the sake of a pragmatic answer, the delivery is centred around the user and its needs, often leading to an opaque finished product.  Home’s basic, the coat rack was selected to support this study as a concrete product base for trend and consumer behavior analysis. From shared ornamental and functional object placed in the entrance of houses, the coat rack previously “hatstand”, is today an unnoticed domestic object. The final product was hand manufactured with recycled and raw component, allowing transparency on the production process and used material. Stacking up coats on the produced rack create a private space for the user to sit in, questioning the relationship between user and product (ownership, trust, value). Based on architectural concept and design theory, the product aims to bridge creative and technical disciplines to suggest a functional yet questionable product as dialogue starter.  How sustainable are the objects that surround us every day? What is the story of the product? With those question in head the experimental design thinking studio breadedEscalope based in Vienna (Austria), offers an alternative approach to design. Always starting projects with the production process as a story of formations, offering unique and playful outcome to the act of designing.
