<p>GBD-Storage Systems is a company that provides the industries with products for efficient storage.The company produces pallet racks and accessories like cassettes and extending units. The companyhas also supplied tire racks for a number of tire companies. The company's CEO Gunnar Berglund hasfor some time had an idea to improve the working situation of the workers on tire firms by allowingthe wheels to be handled by a counterbalance truck. The current situation poses numerous heavy liftswhen the tires are handled and therefore is hurting the workers.This thesis has been aiming at helping the GBD-Storage Systems by developing a concept of howan accessory to counterbalanced trucks can be designed to cope with the wheels. This concept willthen be produced as prototype by the company. The initial conditions were to create an accessory thatcan be run with the hydraulics of the forklift truck. The gadget would be dimensioned in accordancewith an EU-pallet to allow use on most counterbalance trucks. By following the product developmentprocess as taught at Mälardalen University the works has progressed well.The result is an accessory of 800 x 800 mm, made up of a framework of square tubes. Mounted onthis were two linear units that allow lateral motion. On top of the linear units there is one mountedslewing ring bearing and on that two telescopic rails. On the telescopic rails a plate is mounted wherethe wheels are placed. Between telescopic rails and plate are two double-acting hydraulic cylinderswhich handle loading and unloading of the tire places. These cylinders are connected to the forklifthydraulics through the connections to the forks side shifting. The gadget can be managed with thecontrols that are already in the truck.The project has progressed without major problems and the results are satisfying. In the finalconcept was though the choice of loading direction handled manually. Detta koncept kommersedan företaget tillverka en prototyp efter. Förutsättningarna var att skapa ett tillbehör som kan drivasmed den hydraulik som trucken har. Tillbehöret skulle dimensioneras efter en europapall för att tillåtaanvändning på de flesta truckar. Genom att följa den produktutvecklingsprocess som undervisats påMälardalens högskola ha arbetet fortskridit.Resultatet är ett tillbehör på 800 x 800 mm, uppbyggt av en ram av fyrkantrör. På dennamonterades linjärenheter som tillåter rörelse i sidled. På linjärenheterna monterades ettsvängkranslager och teleskopskenor. På teleskopskenorna sitter en plåt där hjulen placeras. Mellanteleskopskenorna och under plåten sitter två stycken dubbelverkande hydraulcylindrar som sköter inochutlastningen i däckställen. Dessa cylindrar kopplas till truckens hydraulik genom de kopplingar somfinns framdragna till stativet för gaffelspridning och sidoföring. Tillbehöret kan därför hanteras med dereglage som redan finns i trucken.Projektet har framskridit utan större problem och resultatet är tillfredsställande. I det färdigakonceptet hanteras dock valet av lastningssida manuellt, vilket bör ändras till en färdig produkt.</p>

<p>A product and design development of a household device which shall dry food waste has been</p><p>carried out in collaboration with Smedlund Miljösystem AB.</p><p>This project has been implemented through several brainstorms and a questionnaire study.</p><p>A great insight of how it is to work in a project in real work life has this project been given</p><p>me. This is a slightly less straight road to a conclusion than in the academic world that I am</p><p>used to.</p>

<p>The thesis work was conducted with the company Free2Move AB. The company is located in Halmstad and is an acting provider of wireless communications for industrial customers, mainly focused on Bluetooth™ technology.</p><p>In today's society most people have their music on their computer, MP3 player or mobile phone. What if you could avoid the cable between your sound system and sound source and transfer music wirelessly instead? </p><p>Together with the company's engineers, I have developed a new comprehensive product for wireless music transmission. My task was to design the outside of the product and then together with the firm's engineers and market agency, develop its external components from both an aesthetic and technical point of view. The electronics design was created by the company engineers.</p><p>The hope of profiling on the market set the bar from the beginning. Free2Move AB did not want to emphasize the project too hard in the beginning, it was the work that has led to what it is today. However, a strong emphasis was places on production ability and cost. Approximately in the middle of the project we realized that it would be impossible to launch the product. Competing products currently sell for around 600 SEK couple. We would have to sell our product for about 1500 SEK each. The economic factor has not prevented the thesis from attaining its original intent, but only changed it to a concept solution instead of going directly into production. Still, great consideration has been given to production ability and production cost. </p><p>The project included the design and product development. Therefore, I chose to work as much as possible according to SVID Design Process which is a process that is used as a model for design in product development.</p>

<p>Syftet med arbetet är att lösa problemet med det befintliga låset till spjälsängen Sesam, en säng anpassad för funktionshindrade småbarnsföräldrar som genom att ha grindar på fram-sidan gör det lätt även för en rullstolsburen eller muskelsvag person att komma åt. Problemet är dels att grindarna behöver lyftas upp för att öppnas, ett moment som kan vara svårt för en person med nedsatt muskelfunktion. Det andra problemet är att överliggaren är för lätt att öppna inifrån och har dålig hållfasthet.</p><p>Målet är att i samarbete med Mayday Aid AB ta fram ett lås som löser problemet.</p><p>Metod: </p><p>BAD, MAD, CAD, Benchmarking, Past- och real time studies.</p><p>Bakgrund: </p><p>Antalet föräldrar med funktionshinder ökar snabbt.2 Detta kan tyda på en attitydförändring med en ökad social integration och en naturlig förväntan att leva ett fullvärdigt liv. I deras syn på sig själva har de försökt avlägsna sig från rollen som vårdtagare och i stället ser de sig som självständiga individer med i stort sett samma behov, rättigheter och skyldigheter som alla andra. En vid sjukdomsbild har genomförts för att på bästa sätt tillmötesgå målgruppen vid utformningen av produkten.</p><p>Resultat:</p><p>Låset ”Sleepsafe” tillverkat av björkplywood som bevisligen minskar den kraft som behövs för att öppna grindarna. Mätningarna visade att det endast krävs 6.52 N med nya låsets konstruktion att jämföra med 19.99 N för den ursprungliga låskonstruktionen.</p><p>Diskussion:</p><p>Vi strävade efter att integrera hela låsningsmekanismen i en produkt för att slippa utföra flera moment vid öppnandet, men för att göra låset mer barnsäkert så monterades ett extra lås nedtill som då blir svårt för barnen att nå. Med nya gångjärn slipper man numera att lyfta hela grinden. Ett fantastiskt tillfälle gavs till att testa låset på de riktiga användarna på handikapp-mässan ”Leva och fungera” i Göteborg. Produkten justerades något efteråt. Med låsets nya konstruktion har problemen eliminerats och underlättar för användaren.</p>

<p>Äldre människor är en grupp som växer och blir allt större. På grund av åldrandetdrabbas denna grupp ofta av någon form av funktionsnedsättning. Många gångerkan den äldre populationen känna sig hotad av åldrandet, eftersom den påverkarindividens självständighet. Ett sätt att bibehålla självständigheten är att användahjälpmedel. Idag finns många hjälpmedel på marknaden, vilket också ökatbehovet av att utvärdera hur väl produkterna uppfyller sin funktion. Ett företagsom tillverkar hjälpmedel för äldre är ComfortSystem AB (CS). Syftet med dettaprojekt har varit att utvärdera två hjälpmedel för att ta sig ur säng och detta meden lämplig metod för produktutvärdering. Målet med projektet har varit attanvända den utvalda metoden för att redovisa siffror som ett resultat av produktutvärderingen.Med Puhgs utvärderingsmatris valdes elektromyografi (EMG) somen lämplig utvärderingsmetod. Vid tillämpning av EMG visade detta att vidanvändning av produkterna sker en förändring av muskelaktiviteten för m. rectusabdominis och m. obliquus externus abdominis när hjälpmedlen används jämförtmed att ta sig ur säng och att inte använda dem. En intervju genomfördes medföretaget för att undersöka resultatets betydelse för CSs produktutvecklingsprocess.För ett statistiskt säkert resultat krävs vidare studier med fler testpersoner.</p> / <p>The elderly are a constantly growing part of the population. Due to aging,members of this group are often subjects to some kind of disability. It is quitecommon that elderly feel frightened by their aging as it may affect the individual'sindependence. One way to maintain independence is to use assistive devices.There are currently many such devices on the market, something that has calledfor better ways to determine how well these products operate. A company that ismanufacturing assistive devices for the elderly is ComfortSystem AB (CS). Thepurpose of this project was to evaluate two assistive devices for getting in and outof bed, using a suitable method for product evaluation. The goal of the project wasto apply the chosen method to present numbers as a result of the evaluation. UsingPugh's evaluation matrix electromyography (EMG) was chosen as a suitableevaluation method. When EMG was applied it was showed that there is a changein the muscle activity among the m. rectus abdominis and m. externus obliquusabdominis when using the assistive devices compared to getting out of bed andnot using the devices. An interview was conducted with the company to establishthe impact of the chosen method on CS's product development process. For astatistically sound result more studies using more subjects are necessary.</p>

<p>Denna rapport redovisar examensarbetet ”Tjejer med Flyt” vid Innovations- och designingenjörsprogrammet på Karlstads universitet. Arbetet omfattar 20p per student och innefattar alla steg i produktutvecklingen från projektbeställning till färdig prototyp.</p><p>Projektet har utförts i samarbete med Baltic Safety Produkts AB. Företaget är europaledande inom flytvästtillverkning och har identifierat ett behov på marknaden av flytvästar utformade för kvinnor.</p><p>Uppdraget har varit att ta fram ett förslag på en dammodell till Baltics sortiment av flytvästar. Produkten avser ett allroundflytplagg i 50 N klassen, storlek M, 50-70kg. Målgruppen för detta projekt har varit den aktiva kvinnan som vill förmedla aktivt båtliv till sin omgivning.</p><p>Två litteraturfördjupningar har genomförts med inriktning mot ”Mannligt och Kvinnligt” samt ”Säkerhets och kvalitetscertifiering av produkter”. Dessa redovisas i rapportens första del.</p><p>Produkten som tagits fram erbjuder större rörelsefrihet, flexibilitet och bättre passform. Materialet och skärningen ger ett feminint uttryck samt en plaggkänsla utan att kompromissa med kvalitet och säkerhet.</p><p>Projektet har resulterat i två prototyper. Mönsterskydd är taget på konceptet och Baltic arbetar vidare med produkten inför en eventuell lansering.</p> / <p>This report accounts for the final project “Girls afloat” for the Innovation and Design Engineering Programme at Karlstad University. The project constitutes 20 academic credits (30 ECTS), and includes all the phases of the product development process, from engagement to prototyping.</p><p>The project is a collaboration with Baltic Safety Products AB. The company is a leading producer of sea safety equipment on the European market. Baltic has identified a demand for a lifejacket designed for women.</p><p>The assignment has been to produce an addition of a lifejacket for women to Baltic’s collection. The task at hand is a lifejacket of the 50N-class in size medium, 50-70kg. The target group for this project has been the woman on the go who wants to communicate an active lifestyle to her surroundings.</p><p>Literature studies have been made in two different fields, “Femininity vs. Masculinity” and “Product Safety and Quality Certification”. These are documented in the first part of the report.</p><p>The final product offers greater freedom of movement, flexibility, and a better fit for women. The chosen materials and cut gives the lifejacket a feminine look, and a garment-feel to it, without any compromise to the quality and safety of the product.</p><p>The project has resulted in two prototypes. Design rights have been obtained for the concept, and Baltic is preparing the product for a potential introduction to the market.</p>

<p>This degree project has been carried out by Oscar Adolfsson and Marcus Blomqvist, during the spring of 2010, both studying to become Bachelor of Science in Innovation and Design Engineering, at Karlstad University. The degree project includes 22,5 credits.The work is done on behalf of Etac Supply Center AB in Anderstorp. Etac is a company developing and manufacturing home health care products, with operation in Sweden, Norway, Denmark, England and Germany, and with sales worldwide. Bo Lindqvist, R & D manager has been the contact person at Etac.During the project the students has had a workplace at Semcon Caran AB in Karlstad. Semcon has also been helpful as a sounding board.The objective of the work has been developing a new, wall mounted shower chair, assigned for persons with difficulty to stand up while showering.Etacs requirement of the shower chair is that it should be able to support a user with a weight of 100 kg, the chair shouldn’t have any outrigger, optional should be armrests and backrest. The seat should be mountable in existing bathrooms, and act as a complement for the current shower seats sold by Etac. It’s very important that the result is good looking, and appealing to new target groups.In the start of this project, the students have been carrying through a benchmarking, mainly at the NordBygg fair in Stockholm. The students have been agreeing about the lack of products with both functionality and aesthetic appealing qualities.The result is adjusted to fit the most common wall constructions in Sweden.Four concepts have been developed, and among these four, one is the final result. The final result consists of two aluminium wall rails and a plastic seat. A plastic backrest, and armrest in both plastic and stainless steel are optional.During the work, the specifications on products like these, from the Swedish institute of assistive technology, concerning strength and risks of pinching has been observed.The project has resulted in CAD-files and a model in scale 1:3, manufactured by Etac.</p>

This thesis describes the work process and the result for the further development of an existing automatic spray gun for use in the general industry, and from sketch to an almost ready prototype for production. The product is produced on behalf of Ecco Finishing AB and the new product is meant to replace the existing automatic spray gun Ecco 65AS. This product has a unique new thinking for the location of air and paint adjustments, which normally are located in the spray gun. They will now be located in a separate disk assembled under the spray gun instead, which makes changes of the gun easier since it does not spoil the adjustments. The project started with a product specification that was compiled from an already completed market research by Ecco Finishing AB. The work continued with investigations to see how the existing product worked, how the competitors had solved the same kind of problems and what the technical problem areas were for the new product. The work continued with generating concepts and it was determined, after a discussion with my contact at Ecco Finishing, to proceed with one of the concepts. Experiments were made on the existing spray gun to estimate the function for the concept and for calculating the forces resulting from its use. These calculations were then used to get an approximation on the new product’s function. The work proceeded with studying which kind of material and manufacturing that was most suitable, followed by detail construction of the concept in the computer program Solid Works. Finally a cost analysis was done and quotes for the new details were brought in from suppliers with support from Ecco Finishing’s purchasing department. These quotes were compiled with the cost of the products other components to get a total manufacturing cost. The final part of the thesis is a discussion and conclusion, in which suggestions for further work can be found. Even problems encountered during the work are included in this part. / I det här examensarbetet redogörs arbetsgången och resultatet för vidareutveckling av en befintlig automatisk sprutpistol för användning inom den allmänna industrin, från skiss till en nästintill produktionsklar digital prototyp. Produkten är framtagen på uppdrag av Ecco Finishing AB som är uppdragsgivaren. Den tilltänkta produkten är tänkt att ersätta en redan befintlig automatisk sprutpistol, Ecco 60AS. Det unika med den nya produkten är ett nytänkande vad gällande placering av luft samt färgjusteringar, som vanligtvis sitter i pistolen. Men som nu kommer att placeras i en separat platta under pistolen, vilket gör att pistolen lätt kan bytas ut samtidigt som inställningarna för luft o färg behålls. Projektet inleddes med att en produktkravspecifikation sammanställdes från en redan genomförd marknadsundersökning. Arbetet fortsatte med en rad olika undersökningar för att se hur den befintliga produkten fungerade, hur konkurrenterna löst olika problem samt vilka fokusområdena var för den nya produkten. Efter genomförda undersökningar fortsatte arbetet kring konceptgenerering och i samråd med uppdragsgivaren togs beslut om att arbeta vidare med ett av dessa koncept. För få en uppskattning huruvida konceptet skulle fungera funktionsmässigt utfördes experiment på den befintliga produkten för att beräkna de krafter som uppstår vid användning. Dessa beräkningar användes sedan för att göra en ungefärlig approximation för funktionen av den nya produkten.  Arbetet fortskred genom att undersöka vilka material och tillverkningsmetoder som var mest lämpade följt av detaljkonstruktion av konceptet i CAD programmet Solid Works. Slutligen gjordes en fullständig kostnadsanalys samt en uppskattning av monteringstiden för den nya produkten. Offerter på de färdiga detaljerna togs in från olika leverantörer med stöd av inköpsavdelningen och sammanställdes med produktens övriga komponenter för att få fram en tillverkningskostnad. I den avslutande delen av arbetet med diskussion och slutsats tas även förslag upp på fortsatt arbete och förbättringar med produkten samt en utvärdering som beskriver förbättringarna för den nya produkten jämfört med den befintliga. Även problem som uppstått under arbetets gång tas upp i denna del.
