We intended to understand the reciprocal influences between these women throughout their lives and the implications of such influences on their professional lives. To achieve this objective we performed a case study. Open interviews were conducted with four sisters whose narratives allowed us to better understand their life experiences, current and past. We have found that the bonds between them are built based on loyalty and mutual support which becomes evident throughout their relationships histories and influences important themes in all of their individual lives, among which is their professional life / O objetivo deste estudo foi compreender a construção e reconstrução do relacionamento fraterno entre irmãs das camadas médias urbanas que tivessem uma vida profissional ativa. Pretendemos compreender as influências recíprocas entre estas mulheres ao longo da vida, e quais suas implicações para o desenvolvimento do projeto profissional de cada uma delas. Para tanto, realizamos um estudo de caso. Foram realizadas entrevistas abertas com quatro irmãs, cujas narrativas nos permitiram compor um quadro de suas experiências de vida, atual e passada. Constatamos que os laços entre estas mulheres se construíram com base em lealdade e apoio mútuo, o que se evidencia ao longo da história do relacionamento e perpassa temas de relevância na vida individual, dentre os quais a vida profissional

<p>In the New Testament different pictures of a Christian woman are presented, not only thepicture of someone who is nursing and caring, but also the picture of someone who is learningand being educated.Women are put into systems of gender which form them, and throughout the years the pictureof women has been that they primarily should be caring and nursing, not learning.Both of these pictures exist within the Swedish Missionary Society, a society that has not hadany constitution to comply with until 1964, which meant that each person could make his owninterpretation of the Bible and its texts.This essay examines how fifty-year-old women are pictured within the Swedish MissionarySociety 1945-1970, assuming that women who want to serve Jesus have to be prepared togive up their traditional role of nursing and caring, and focus on learning instead.The research method is qualitative, and the written sources are from a regional Christianweekly publication. The essay does not present an unambiguous picture of fifty-year-oldnonconformist women, but the results show that they are not being related to children, that themajority has a higher education than elementary school, and that many of them are addressedto as “Mrs”.</p>

The Relationship of Work Engagement, Work-life Balance, and Occupational Commitment on the Decisions of Agricultural Educators to Remain in the Teaching Profession.

The purpose of this study was to identify and describe agriculture teachers on factors related to career retention and to explore the relationships between agriculture teachers? work engagement, work-life balance, occupational commitment, and personal and career factors as related to the decision to remain in the teaching profession. The target population for this study was defined as experienced agricultural educators who had completed a minimum of four years of teaching experience, who were currently employed in a secondary agricultural education classroom for the 2009-2010 school calendar. The accessible population consisted of those experienced agricultural educators in the southern region of the United States: Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee. The study sought responses from a stratified random sample of those teachers to ensure geographical and gender representation equivalent that of the target population. This study employed descriptive-correlational research procedures. The instrument was constructed utilizing portions of the four studies to measure the variables of interest. Independent samples t-tests revealed there were no statistical differences between genders on any responses. A regression analysis revealed a 25% variance in occupation commitment attributed to work-life balance and work engagement. Note: This student obtained a joint doctoral degree from Texas A&M University and Texas Tech.

Para a realização desta pesquisa, buscaram-se nove executivos de um banco privado sediados na cidade de Salvador (BA). Diversos autores contribuíram com o referencial teórico – Super (1990), Chanlat (1995), Kanter (1997), Hall (2004) e Lacombe (2005 ) – embora a teoria de Edgar H. Schein sobre estágios e âncoras de carreira seja a mais utilizada neste trabalho. Trata-se de um estudo exploratório de natureza qualitativa. A pesquisa constou da aplicação do Inventário de Âncoras de Carreira de Schein e de entrevistas para analisar a trajetória profissional dos participantes e identificar as âncoras identificadas com o inventário. Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / This study is linked to the research line Professional Formation, Knowledge and Development of the Post-Graduation Program of Federal University of Santa Maria and focuses on the Life History of a training teacher with 30 years in the training class. The general objective is to investigate formation processes and life cycle of a training teacher and the elements that have influenced her permanence for 30 years in the training class . In a qualitative approach, through the Biographical Method Life History, the methodological proceedings for the information production are defined from oral autobiographical narrative and semi-structured interview. The autobiography contributes by giving visibility to the life histories, since, when the professor rememorizes her work, the meeting with her personal life helps her to understand, according to Moita (1992), the professional role in life and the role of life in the profession . The interlocutor of this research is a teacher who works for 30 years in the class. From her life history, her memories of becoming a training teacher and keep teaching how to read, mobilize in founding out competences and experiences that were being built throughout her schooling, her formation processes and all her professional life cycle. To perceive the Life History as a possibility of reflecting about memories related to transformation times brings us the opportunity of going to training practices, as well as the elements that guides this teacher to keep 30 years training. In the final considerations, it is highlighted the elements that influence the interlocutor of this research in being and keeping working in training classes in many phases of her professional life cycle, as a satisfied and motivated person with the teaching profession. Besides that, such considerations highlights the importance of Life History as a methodology that reveals many knowledge, experiences that constitute the life of those ones who do the education. / Esta pesquisa está vinculada à Linha de Pesquisa intitulada Formação, Saberes e Desenvolvimento Profissional do Programa de Pós-Graduação da Universidade Federal de Santa Maria e tem como foco a História de Vida de uma professora alfabetizadora com 30 anos na classe de alfabetização. O objetivo geral é investigar os processos formativos e o ciclo de vida de uma professora alfabetizadora e os elementos que influenciam sua permanência por 30 anos na classe de alfabetização . Dentro de uma abordagem qualitativa, através do Método Biográfico História de Vida, os procedimentos metodológicos para a produção de informações definem-se a partir do relato autobiográfico oral e entrevista semiestruturada. A autobiografia contribui no sentido de dar visibilidade às histórias de vida, pois, quando o professor rememora seu trabalho, o encontro com sua vida pessoal e profissional ajuda-o a compreender, conforme Moita (1992), o papel da profissão na vida e o papel da vida na profissão . A interlocutora desta pesquisa é uma professora que atua há 30 anos na classe de alfabetização. A partir de sua história de vida, suas lembranças do tornar-se alfabetizadora e permanecer alfabetizando, vão se mobilizando, na descoberta de competências e experiências que foram sendo construídas ao longo de sua escolarização, seus processos formativos e todo o seu ciclo de vida profissional. Perceber a História de Vida como uma possibilidade de refletir sobre as memórias que percorreram o tempo das transformações nos traz a oportunidade de percorrer as práticas de alfabetização, bem como, os elementos que levam essa professora a permanecer 30 anos alfabetizando. As considerações finais destacam a afetividade e a reflexão como elementos que influenciam a interlocutora desta pesquisa em ser e permanecer atuando nas classes de alfabetização por diversas fases do seu ciclo de vida profissional, como uma pessoa realizada e motivada com a profissão docente. Além disso, tais considerações destacam a importância da História de Vida como uma metodologia que revela muitos saberes, experiências que constituem a história daqueles que fazem a educação.

Ett yrkesliv inom hotell och restaurang : En kvalitativ studie om arbetet, kulturen och gemenskapen / A professional life in the hotel and restaurant industry : A qualitative study of work, culture, and community

The purpose of this study is to understand and describe the meaning of employees’ work experiences of professional socialization in hotel and restaurants, and further describe the professional life that is created within the industry. Previous research shows that the industry consists mainly of young workers while those over 50 are few, which indicates that both young and old workers leave the industry. The gender distribution for the whole industry is even, but a closer look shows that kitchens are male dominated while the service-oriented professions are female-dominated. This contributes to the industry facing several challenges such as high staff turnover and sexual harassments. Based on this, there is a reason to further explore their professional life. Professional life is used as an umbrella term for the theoretical concepts: career, professional socialization, professional culture, professional identity, age, and gender. The results are based on 13 interviews with reception, serving and kitchen staff between the ages of 20-45. The result shows that the professional culture includes a harsh, and sexist jargon. Through the professional socialization, the employees must adapt and accept the culture by proving their willingness to a long-term career, participate in the jargon and create mutual relationships built on trust and respect. Employees are aware of the difficulty of ageing in the industry and therefore they start planning early in their careers for how to reduce the active work as they get older. Gender and age mainly affect women who need to adapt and accept the sexist jargon that can lead to discrimination. One of the conclusions are that an important part of professional socialization is to differentiate oneself from employees who see their work as a transitional profession and accept the tough professional culture. This, together with the impact that age and gender have, is significant for their professional identity and willingness to create a long-term professional life.

Sportovec jako mediální celebrita v proměnách času / Sportsman as a Celebrity in Course of Time

This diploma thesis discusses the process of celebritization of sportsmen. This phenomenon is illustrated with a form of the media coverage of sporting career of gymnast Věra Čáslavská, speed skater Martina Sáblíková and tennis players Jan Kodeš and Tomáš Berdych. The thesis compares socialist journals Československý sport and Lidová demokracie and current periodicals Sport and Lidové noviny. The work deals with the characteristics of the concept of celebrity, history of sports celebrities, types of people who are likely to become a celebrity, and social status of athletes. The articles related to the selected sportsmen were examined through content analysis. Researched texts were divided into prepared categories (professional life, lifestyle, relationships, love life, appearance, personality, children, health, advertising). This quantitative research was followed by qualitative research methods, which focused on athletes in the advertising industry. The method consisted of examining the articles about advertising activities of athletes. The work also deals with the description of life and sports career of gymnast Věra Čáslavská. The information comes from the media coverage of contemporary prints, which describes not only her athletic career, but also the period after 1990.

Studiens syfte var att genom kvinnliga chefers/ egna företagares livsberättelser skildra hur kvinnor skapar mening i sitt yrkes- och familjeliv. Studiens teoretiska delar avsåg att belysa villkor för kvinnor i dagens yrkesliv samt skapa en förståelse för kvinnors val i samband med familjebildning avseende fördelning av föräldraledighet och ansvar för familj. Studien var en kvalitativ studie med livsberättelse som metod, fem kvinnor som är yrkesverksamma som chefer eller egna företagare har medverkat i studien. Studiens teoretiska ansats var socialkonstruktionistisk och förförståelsen av livsberättelser var att de skapas mellan den som berättar, den som intervjuar och den samtida kontexten. I livsberättelserna lyftes de meningsskapande sambanden för kvinnor verksamma som chefer eller egna företagare. Studiens resultat visade att kvinnors yrkesliv starkt påverkades av familjen och behovet av att vara nära sina barn påverkar kvinnornas karriärmöjligheter. Kvinnorna i studien tog i  samband med familjebildningen ansvar för barnens omvårdnad. Barnens utflytt skapade nya möjligheter till karriär för kvinnorna men skapade även existentiella frågor. Frågor om meningen i tillvaron och vad vardagen ska fyllas med för att upplevas meningsfull. Att få tillgång till både familj och yrkesliv var avgörande för kvinnorna i studien.
