An environmental management framework for DWAF related projects / Valerie du Plessis

Du Plessis, Valerie January 2004 (has links)
The purpose of this study is to revise the Department of Water Affairs and Forestry's (DWAF's) current Integrated Environmental Management (IEM) procedure and to develop an Environmental Management Framework (EMF), so as to ensure that the environment is considered in a structured, formal manner at each decision-making stage of the projects development business process. The proposed EMF provides process diagrams that align the IBM principles, the environmental assessment and management tools, and the engineering business process with the project life cycle approach for DWAF's water sector functional areas. Key decision-making points are introduced to the business process to ensure that all the specific requirements have been met before continuing to the next engineering stage of the business life cycle. Auditing nodes were identified within the life cycle approach and complement the decision-making points and strengthen the evaluation of environmental compliance and performance. These process diagrams is designed to prompt development planners and implementers to consider the environment at all stages of the business life cycle and practice sound environmental management. The EMF is based on international best practice and follows the Deming model philosophy as well as principles and elements of an environmental management system. The EMF must be an integral part in the way the department conduct its business and not seen as an ad hoc function and the duties of the environmental officer. To conclude, the EMF is the building block and interim management plan for an appropriate environmental management system in the future and the first step towards business excellence for the Department of Water Affairs and Forestry. / Thesis (M.Sc. (Geography and Environmental Studies))--North-West University, Potchefstroom Campus, 2005.

Les modalités de mobilisation d'une compétence improvisationnelle au sein d'une équipe projet / Detailed rules for the mobilization of improvisational competences within a project team

Vignikin, Aristide Kohovi 03 December 2013 (has links)
Many projects fail because of poor management of unpredictable situations. Given the growing interest in this subject among both project managers and researchers, our goal is to seek innovative solutions to capture the unexpected. The literature review is grounded on project management, and the concepts of organizational improvisation and quality teamwork. We ask the following research question : what are the managerial devices to develop within project teams in order to manage effectively the ability to improvise in innovative projects ? The initial question is divided into two sub-research questions : What are the project managament situations favoring improvisation and how do they evolve during the project life span ? What is the impact of the mobilization of improvidational devices by the project team members on project performance ? To answer these questions, we rely on quantitative analysis of an international database on managerial project situations to answer on the first research question, and on a survey of project teams of students achieving tutored projects, in response to the second research question. Among the main results, this thesis identifies and characterizes « improvisational situations » within project teams. It also analyzes how they evolve during the project life span. It also examines the relationship between collective improvisation and performance in project teams, and it shows that the teamwork quality plays an intermediary role. Finally, the role played by several managerial devices is highlighted. Depending on the type of performance, economic or social, two management models of improvisation in project trams are available. These results are discussed and the contributions of our research as well as its limitations and the perspectives of research are developed in conclusion.

The theoretical perspective of cyberculture and teacher training in the view of UFC undergraduates about the teacher training Interdisciplinary Laboratory (LIFE): challenges and advances

Jaiza Helena MoisÃs Fernandes 29 August 2014 (has links)
nÃo hà / It aims to understand how the undergraduates of UFC courses experience MDCR (Network Collaborative Digital Materials) proposed by the Project LIFE (Teacher Training Interdisciplinary Laboratory) in the theoretical perspective of cyberculture. This training involved copyright collaborative activities (through the development of MDCR), face-to-face and online interactions as well as the mobilization of teaching knowledge in line with the principles of the LIFE Project and Cyberculture. Specifically, the study intended to describe how the undergraduates participate and appropriate of LIFE training, from their point of views; to identify, with support on the perception of the undergraduate students, the teaching knowledge mobilized in training and how this knowledge dialogues with the principles of LIFE / UFC training and cyberculture and to see how the development process of MDCR, teaching strategies and learning developed by the undergraduates are related to the principles of cyberculture. The work expresses theoretical discussions of cyberculture, education, teacher training, teaching knowledge, complexity and interdisciplinarity. It is a qualitative ethnographic research, which had activities at LIFE-UFC and in a basic vocational school, partner in the project. Four undergraduates, both male and female and from four courses of UFC, participated in the study. The research techniques adopted were: participant observation, semi-structured interviews and documentary analysis. The results showed that the undergraduates in graduation phase externalize the existence of gaps in basic training with regard to teaching practice, particularly in relation to aspects of cyberculture and interdisciplinarity. For the undergraduates, LIFE articulated theory and practice and potentiated teaching experiences via cybercultural and interdisciplinary experiences â in the development of MDCR and in the established relationship with the students of the partner school â who want to teach. It was concluded that LIFE training is configured as a practical training for the undergraduates that sought it in the project, once it approximates the design elements of cyberculture and interdisciplinary school. The study showed, based on the contributions of the undergraduates, the need for discussions in the academy and school about the current policies of teacher training.
