Brossard, Marie-Michèle 06 1900 (has links)
This study aims to examine the moderating role of extracurricular activities on the relationship between deviant peer affiliation and boys’ and girls’ disengagement between the first and second years of secondary school. The sample was composed of 448 students from two secondary schools in Montreal. During two successive years, the level of behavioral disengagement, extracurricular activities participation, and number of deviant peers were evaluated with self-reported measures. Results show that, beyond the mother’s educational level and youth deviancy, affiliation with deviant peers is positively associated with adolescent behavioral disengagement. Moreover, extracurricular activities participation is positively but marginally associated with student disengagement. Finally, results suggest that the effect of extracurricular activities participation varies between boys and girls. The discussion highlights the different implications of these results for research and intervention.

O uso adequado do protetor solar minimiza tal risco. / Non-ionizing radiation (UV-A, UV-B and UV-C) of the sun's electromagnetic spectrum cause diseases to human and must be avoided. The proper use of sunscreen minimizes this problem. Currently, the trend is to introduce natural materials, organic or inorganic, in the composition of sunscreens, in order to neutralize possible side effects of synthetic materials. Studies have shown that clays (layered silicates) incorporated in sunscreens can block ultraviolet radiation in 250 to 400 nm wavelength range depending on the clay composition. Following this guideline, in this work, two clays were used in the preparation of sunscreen and its effectiveness was determined at Universidade Federal de Campina Grande (UFCG) laboratory through in vitro evaluation by spectrophotomery. The clays tested were Cloisite® Na + sodium montmorillonite and Argel 35 bentonite. The formulations were prepared in pharmacies in three different cities, Guarabira, Joao Pessoa and Campina Grande, in Paraíba state. The method chosen to evaluate the Sun Protection Factor (SPF) was in vitro method, developed by Mansur, due to the excellent correlation with in vivo method. Besides, there are other advantages like low cost and less damage to health since the volunteer is not exposed to the experiments. Before the evaluation of SPF of prepared formulations with the clay, the SPF of commercial sunscreens was determined and it was confirmed that the in vitro method was proper to define sunscreen SPF. The introduction of clay in the sunscreens composition, as natural materials, replacing TiO2 synthetic material was effective, especially for Argel bentonite clay. The legitimacy of studying the photoprotective effect of clay materials in the composition of sunscreens is justified by great social relevance, since they are inexpensive and found easily in nature.

[en] METROLOGICAL EVALUATION OF SUNSCREENS BY LDI-TOF MASS SPECTROMETRY / [pt] AVALIAÇÃO METROLÓGICA DE FILTROS SOLARES POR ESPECTROMETRIA DE MASSA LDI-TOF

JORGE MARCIAL AGUERO ANDRADE 01 November 2018 (has links)
[en] Several studies of research note the obvious correlation between excessive exposure to sunlight, and the incidence of skin cancer, cataracts and premature aging of the skin. The market for cosmetics for sun protection is in the booming; various countries adopt laws specific to these products. In Brazil they are regulated by the National Sanitary Surveillance Agency (ANVISA). However, there are no official methods of chemical analysis to determine solar filters in cosmetics. In this work was developed a procedure for qualitative analysis of commercial cosmetics with solar filters by mass spectrometry LDI-TOF (Laser Desorption Ionization - Time-of-Flight). LDI technique uses a beam of monochromatic laser light, Lambda = 337 nm, as a probe to excite, desorbs and ionize the analyte. Although the spectrum of solar radiation is continuous, the wavelength used in LDI is well on the average range of radiation that includes UVA and UVB, which makes technical LDI potentially suitable to excite molecules of active substances similarly to lightning Sun. For such characteristics, it is reasonable to expect that LDI be selective to detect solar filters presents on cosmetics products. In parallel, was also used mass spectrometry (252)Cf-PDMS (Plasma Desorption Mass Spectrometry), which uses fragments of the fission of radioactive nuclide californium 252 instead of laser. Mass spectra were obtained from positive and negative ions, eight commercial cosmetics by both techniques, and PDMS spectra of active substances allowed by ANVISA. Masses observed on LDI mass spectra from selected products were compared with: i) molecular masses of all active substances allowed; ii) masses observed on PDMS mass spectra from standards allowed and commercial cosmetics; iii) molecular masses of sunscreens in its labels. The selectivity of the LDI technique to identify solar filters in cosmetics was demonstrated by mass spectra of positive and negative ions of the eight samples.

An analysis of the impact of a training programme on social representations of abuse, protection factors and measures put in place

Masse, Manon 09 January 2014 (has links)
Long ignored or denied, incidents of abuse are now regularly reported and recognized as commonplace in institutions catering for people with disabilities. It is widely recommended that staff should receive training in order to help prevent such abuse, and even that such training modules should now be made compulsory in initial training programmes for all staff working directly with residents. However, virtually nothing is said about the content of such courses, nor about the pedagogical approaches that should be adopted. This thesis analyses such a training program and its outcomes. The programme was conceived with a view to improving active prevention, taking into account the evolution of the concept of abuse, the need for prior work on representations of abuse and the option of an eco-systemic approach to the issue. In order to better understand outcomes, three distinct pedagogical approaches were included. The programme is proposed to social workers during the final year of their initial training. Our approach tests the hypothesis that changes in representations of what constitutes abuse and its factors of protection occur during the training course and may result in specific preventive action. It allows us to develop the methodological approaches needed to analyse such a training programme and also to make recommendations regarding the content and the adoption of appropriate pedagogical methods.
