Vybrané aspekty domácího násilí v soudních spisech a psychologických znaleckých posudcích / Selected aspects of domestic violence described in court files and psychological expert opinions

Kolková, Alžběta January 2017 (has links)
The diploma thesis titled "Selected aspects of domestic violence described in court files and psychological expert opinions" deals with forensic - psychological issues. The theoretical part defines domestic violence, its forms and types. There is also space for individual aspects of domestic violence, including treatises on victims and perpetrators of domestic violence, related myths and consequences. This chapter also covers the issue of how to help. A separate part deals with the court file, its content and composition. The expert opinion, its assignment and content is then devoted to the conclusion of the theoretical part. The empirical part, focused on the examination of selected aspects of domestic violence, was based on an analysis of court files containing the psychological expert opinion in cases of abuse under §198 and §199 of the Criminal code. The suicide of a client : an intern psychologist’s experience

Louwrens, Morne Johan 11 August 2004 (has links)
In this dissertation the author provides an account of the emotional experience of one clinical psychology intern whose client had committed suicide. This study describes the impact on the intern both as an individual and as a professional in the field of psychology. The impact on the intern as an individual is studied in terms of the coping mechanisms used as well as the changes that occurred in her views of death and suicide. The impact on the intern as a professional is studied in terms of her interactions with patients, how she addresses the topic of suicide within therapy, and the eventual changes that she experienced as therapist. The study uses a single case qualitative research design. It concerns the experiences of a specific intern clinical psychologist within the context of a multidisciplinary academic hospital setting. The study is predominantly descriptive in nature, and as such employs the phenomenological method of Giorgi (1985) to provide a specific description of the experiences of the intern psychologist. Through this, the study aims to add to the limited descriptive and qualitative information available on the experiences of therapists whose clients commit suicide. The information available on this topic is mostly quantative in nature, providing statistical data on the emotions and experiences of therapists. The description of the experiences is also compared to the existing information on the topic. As the aim of this study is descriptive in nature, it will not provide any fixed theory on the subject. It does illustrate the experiences of one intern and actively studies the correlation of these experiences with existing data. Conclusions drawn at the end of this study are purely speculative in nature and their validity is left to judge for readers to judge for themselves. / Dissertation (MA (Clinical Psychology))--University of Pretoria, 2005. / Psychology / unrestricted

Verktygsdansen : Om psykologens yrkesutövning i en enslig diskurs

Cleryd, Mikael January 2020 (has links)
This essay examines a professional situation where the writer as a consultant is faced with a request for a ”tool” from one of the participants. This request elicits an emotional reaction that leads to the investigation of the tool-word as a metaphor. The Aristotelian concept of fronesis, the practical wisdom, forms the basis for the investigation. The tool-metaphor is seen as an effect of a neoliberal and hyper-individual culture that places the clinical psychologist in a combat between discourses. In an effort to find a more suitable metaphor, an associative comparison is made between the psychologist’s professional activity and dancing as an artform and phenomenon. Thinkers within the phenomenological and hermeneutical traditions as well as dancing philosophers enters into the investigation to highlight how dependent the psychologist is on an improvised interaction in the professional performance, and the importance of an ethically based view on human beings in this interaction.

Psykologers yrkesetiska dilemman under en tid präglad av sociala medier : en kvalitativ studie om psykologers erfarenheter av yrkesetiska dilemman kopplat till sociala medier / Psychologists' professional ethical dilemmas during a time centered around social media : a qualitative study of psychologists' experiences of ethical dilemmas related to social media

Eriksson, Julia, Hellsten, Annelie January 2022 (has links)
The aim of the present study was to explore psychologists' experiences of ethical dilemmas related to social media, and how these ethical dilemmas are managed. This was explored using a qualitative approach and was based on six semi-structured interviews. The data was analyzed through inductive thematic analysis, which resulted in three main themes: The psychologist on social media - perceptions and expectations, Boundaries and Guidance. Two of the main themes consisted of two sub-themes each. The results showed that psychologists' experiences of ethical dilemmas consisted of concrete experiences and a general awareness of potential dilemmas on social media. The ethical dilemmas that emerged in relation to social media concerned interaction with patients, managing information about patients and self-disclosing information about the psychologist. A central aspect of ethical dilemmas concerned the interplay and demarcation between the private role and the role as a psychologist on social media. The management of ethical dilemmas consisted of preventive measures and strategies aimed at clarifying and establishing boundaries between the various roles, where ethical principles and support from the workplace acted as a guide. The results of the study can contribute to creating a dialogue in workplaces and educational systems about ethical dilemmas. In addition, the study highlights the value of awareness about the subject, which can be useful for the individual psychologist in working with patients. The study may also act as a basis in an eventual update of the Swedish Psychological Association's professional ethical principles.

Mental Health Service Delivery Systems and Perceived Qualifications of Mental Health Service Providers in School Settings

Dixon, Decia Nicole 20 April 2009 (has links)
Latest research on the mental health status of children indicates that schools are key providers of mental health services (U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, 2003). The push for school mental health services has only increased as stakeholders have begun to recognize the significance of sound mental health as an essential part of academic success (Adelman & Taylor, 2002). However, while schools are recognized as playing an important role in the delivery of mental health services, it is not well understood about the types of mental health services provided, qualifications of providers, and the link to student outcomes (United States Department of Health and Human Services, 2003). The present study examined Florida school mental health service providers' perceptions about the types of mental health services provided in schools and school mental health service providers' qualifications to provide such services. Additionally, the study investigated the agreement about providers' qualifications to provide mental health services between providers, supervisors, and directors. Finally, this study investigated the perceptions of providers regarding the impact of mental health services on student outcomes. Results revealed that school mental health service providers considered several services, such as family counseling and mental health consultation, to be school mental health services. Services typically not viewed as mental health services were assessments, consultation improving academic concerns, early-intervention, universal screenings, and specialized intervention. School psychologists were the only mental health professional to receive a unanimous agreement from school mental health providers that they were most qualified of the three professionals to deliver a service (e.g., assessment). Additionally, with the exception of school psychologists, there was no consistency reported between administrators and school mental health service providers about providers' qualifications to deliver services. The following variables moderated perceptions about the qualifications of school mental health service providers: school level, SES status of school, and degree level. Lastly, school level and SES status of the school did not moderate perceptions about the impact of mental health services on academic and behavioral outcomes.

Evaluation of how text-to-speech can be adapted for the specific purpose of being an AI psychologist

Rayat, Pooya, Westergård, Hugo January 2023 (has links)
In this research, our goal was to pinpoint the crucial characteristics that make a voice suitable for an AI psychologist. More importantly, we wanted to explore how Text-To-Speech (TTS) combined with conditional voice controlling, also known as ”prompting”, could be used to incorporate these traits into the voice generation process. This approach allowed us to create synthetic voices that were not just effective, but also tailored to the specific needs of an AI psychologist role. We conducted an exploratory survey to identify key traits such as trustworthiness, safety, sympathy, calmness, and firmness. These traits were then used as prompts in the generation of AI voices using Tortoise, a state-of-the-art text-to-speech system. The generated voices were evaluated through a survey study, resulting in a mean opinion score for different categories corresponding to the prompts. Our findings showed that while the AI-generated voices did not quite match the quality of a real human voice, they were still quite effective in capturing the essence of the prompts and producing the desired voice characteristics. This suggests that prompting within TTS, or the strategic design of prompts, can significantly enhance the effectiveness of AI voices. In addition, we explored the potential impact of AI on the labor market, considering factors such as job displacement and creation, changes in salaries, and the need for reskilling. Our study highlights that AI will have a significant impact on the job market, but the exact nature of this impact remains uncertain. Our findings offer valuable insights into the potential of AI in psychology and highlight the importance of tailoring voice synthesis to specific applications. They lay a solid foundation for future research in this area, fostering continued innovation at the intersection of AI, psychology, and economic viability.

Spolupráce školních psychologů a učitelských týmů z pohledu školních psychologů / The cooperation between school psychologists and teams of teachers from the school psychologists's perspective

Sakmárová, Barbora January 2021 (has links)
My thesis deals with cooperation between school psychologists and teachers. The paper focuses on activities for teachers that are created by school psychologists. The purpose of this study is to look at approach of the school psychologists towards implementation of the activities and to describe attitudes and practices of the school psychologists. Theoretical part consists of the following - history of the school psychology, definition of the school psychology, related legal provisions in the Czech Republic, job description and difficulties that are described by various studies. The paper also deals with teaching, the profession that is often related with stress and burnout syndrome. At the end of the theoretical part several activities for teachers are discussed along with tricky relationship between teachers and school psychologists. Empirical part of the thesis includes results of research consisting of 13 interviews with school psychologists. The interviews are analysed by thematic analysis. The results show that school psychologists create mainly group sessions focused on sharing experiences and thoughts. They also create educational workshops or even relaxation training. During pandemic they send emails of support to the teachers. By creating these activities, the school psychologists offer...

A Comparison of Teachers' and School Psychologists' Perceptions of the Cognitive Abilities Underlying Basic Academic Tasks

Petruccelli, Meredith Lohr January 2008 (has links)
The Cattell-Horn-Carroll Theory of cognitive functioning is a well-validated framework for intelligence. Cross-battery assessment is a means utilizing CHC theory in practice. School psychologists write recommendations with the assumption that teachers understand the cognitive abilities underlying basic academic tasks in the same way. Theoretically, the more similar the understanding of these two groups, the greater the likelihood of appropriate referrals and intervention fidelity. Teacher perceptions of their students' cognitive abilities impact the referrals that they make and intervention strategies that they implement. In this study, teachers and school psychologists were asked to sort basic academic tasks into the CHC broad abilities. The central research questions being asked are as follows: Are school psychologists and teachers equally proficient at identifying the broad cognitive ability demands of a basic academic task? How do the responses of the participants compare to the theoretical model presented? Do teachers and school psychologists become better at identifying the cognitive demands of a task with experience or higher levels of training? In order to answer the first research question, MANOVAs were performed. There was a significant overall difference between groups on their responses. While teachers and school psychologists differed significantly on five of the eight CHC broad ability scales. School psychologists were only significantly better at consistently identifying the basic academic tasks that utilized Fluid Reasoning. To answer the second research question, principal components factor analysis was performed. The factors created displayed limited similarity to the theoretical factors. Pearson correlations between the theoretical factors and the factors created through factor analysis revealed multiple positive correlations that accounted for more than 10% of the variance. The theoretical scales that were more significantly correlated were Fluid Reasoning, Auditory Processing, and Processing Speed. To answer the third research question, Pearson correlations were calculated. This analysis revealed that neither group develops a better understanding of the cognitive abilities required to perform academic tasks with experience. Level of education is not related to accuracy for teachers on any of the items. Level of education is significantly correlated with accuracy in identifying tasks that require Visual Processing for school psychologists. / School Psychology

A critical review of industrial-organisational psychologists as counsellors / Hanri Barkhuizen

Barkhuizen, Hanri January 2014 (has links)
Industrial-organisational (I-O) Psychology is known for specialising in the study of human behaviour in the workplace (Van Vuuren, 2010). It is clear that the problems associated with individuals in the workplace form the basis for the existence of I-O psychology. Veldsman (2001) stated that it is imperative to reflect upon the future of I-O psychology and that I-O psychology must be repositioned in future. Therefore, it is emphasised that additional roles should be elicited for I-O psychologists in South Africa (Barnard & Fourie, 2007). Moalusi (2001) has recognised the need for I-O psychologists to reposition themselves in future by focusing on significant workplace issues. Upon further investigation it should be noted that many factors that exert an influence upon workplace behaviour do not necessarily derive from the workplace. These factors, such as family responsibilities, cultural influences and traumatic events, suggest that the sphere of influence of the I-O psychologists stretches far beyond the physical borders of the workplace (Landy & Conte, 2004; Van Vuuren, 2010). According to Strümpfer (2007), it is the I-O psychologist who is concerned with the deep-rooted problems of individuals. The objective of the study was therefore to critically review the role I-O psychologists play as counsellors, and to determine whether counselling should form part of the I-O psychologist’ scope of practice. A qualitative research design was utilised in the study following a phenomenology strategy. Convenience and snowball sampling were used to identify (n=22) I-O psychologists across the Gauteng and North West provinces. Semi-structured interviews were conducted, where the participants were asked to reflect upon seven interview questions which were later transcribed verbatim and analysed using content analysis. Nine themes were extracted from the data, namely, the meaning of counselling, counselling situations that I-O psychologists face, counselling skills required by I-O psychologists, characteristics displayed by I-O psychologist during counselling, counsellor competencies required of I-O psychologists, post graduate counselling training received by I-O psychologists, additional counselling training received by I-O psychologists, recommendations made for future training of I-O psychology students and lastly the inclusion of counselling in the scope of practice From the results it was clear the I-O psychologists are familiar with the meaning of counselling and that they are faced with a diverse range of counselling situations requiring a unique set of skills and competencies. Participants had divergent experience and opinions with regard to the training received in preparation of their role as counsellor. In relation to their training participants made recommendations for the future training of I-O psychologists. Finally, participants mentioned that it would be in their best interest if counselling is formally included in the scope of practice of the I-O psychologists. / MCom (Industrial Psychology), North-West University, Potchefstroom Campus, 2014
