Psykologers & psykoterapeuters erfarenhet av att arbeta med dans- och rörelseterapi : En kvalitativ intervjustudie / Psychologists & psychotherapists' experience of working with dance and movement therapy : A qualitative interview study

Hjertman, Josefin January 2022 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to examine psychologists and licensed psychotherapists’ experience of working with dance- and movement therapy. Data was collected through semi-structured interviews with four licensed psychotherapists and one psychologist, all of whom were trained dance- and movement therapists. Data was thus analyzed with thematic analysis. The results were summarized in two main themes; therapists’ use of DMT & themselves as well as helpful & not helpful with DMT. This was further discussed based on strengths and weaknesses with the method as well as the ethical aspect with the practice of it. The study provides information on beneficial ways to use DMT, the pros and cons of the method and the ethical aspect of using DMT as a psychologist and licensed psychotherapist as it is a non-evidence-based method.

Beliefs, Practices, and Training in Marriage Preparation: A Comparison Between Members of the Association of Mormon Counselors and Psychotherapists (AMCAP) and Select Protestant Clergy

Ashton, Samuel L. 07 July 2005 (has links) (PDF)
A sample of 127 members of the Association of Mormon Counselors and Psychotherapists (AMCAP) responded to a questionnaire regarding their beliefs, practices and training in premarital counseling (PMC). This study was a replication of a previous study of 226 clergy premarital counselors from four Protestant denominations by Jones, E.F., & Stahmann, R.F. (1994). The results of this study were compared with the results of the Jones & Stahmann study. Findings suggest that AMCAP members were less likely than Protestant clergy to believe that PMC should be required of all couples before marriage. AMCAP members and Protestant clergy both rated Enrichment, Testimony/Evangelism, and Education as the three most important topics/roles they focus on when providing PMC. No difference was found between AMCAP members and Protestant clergy in the number of first marriage couples seen for PMC during a 12 month period. AMCAP members saw an average of one couple more than Protestant clergy for PMC with remarriages during a 12 month period. AMCAP members reported the use of group formats and assigned reading materials more frequently than Protestant clergy. Protestant clergy reported the use of individual couple formats and tests or assessments more frequently than AMCAP members. There was no difference in the amount of training between AMCAP members and Protestant clergy with nearly 40% of both samples practicing PMC with no specific training in PMC.

Supervisors, Trainees, and Client Outcomes in the Training Clinic: Toward an Understanding of Relational Factors

Rieck, Troy P. 08 1900 (has links)
Estimates of healthy years of life lost due to mental illness are increasing, calling greater attention to the provision of effective psychotherapy services. Hypothesized to be the key mechanism through which competencies are developed in trainee clinicians and subsequent client outcomes, clinical supervision is deserving of greater attention. Drawing on a sample of supervisors, trainees, and clients from a training clinic, the present study sought to clarify the relational factors that could facilitate the asserted supervisor-client outcome link and to better understand if, and how, clinical supervisors influence client outcomes. With the exception of supervisor openness to experience, supervisor factors did not predict meaningful variance in client outcomes. Trainee extraversion and openness to experience predicted significant variance in leader-member exchange and supervisory working alliance. Dispositional trainee factors (e.g., personality) appear to impact trainee perceptions of the supervisory relationship. Implications for training and development are discussed, in addition to directions for future research.

Motorväg till det omedvetna? : Fem psykoterapeuters upplevelser av att lära sig arbeta med Intensive Short-Term Dynamic Psychotherapy / Highway to the Unconscious? : Five Psychotherapist`s Experiences of Learning to Work with Intensive Short-Term Dynamic Psychotherapy

Larsson, Louise January 2012 (has links)

Complex PTSD As a Less Pejorative Label: Is the Proposed Diagnosis Less Stigmatizing Than BPD?

Miller, Susannah Catherine 08 1900 (has links)
Clinicians’ attitudes and behaviors toward patients with borderline personality disorder (BPD) are affected by the label’s stigma. Complex posttraumatic stress disorder (CPTSD) was proposed as a comprehensive and less stigmatizing diagnostic category for clients with BPD and a history of complex trauma. Given considerable similarities across both disorders’ diagnostic criteria, the CPTSD framework holds promise as a means to improve therapists’ attitudes towards clients with BPD and a history of complex trauma. However, this quality of CPTSD had not yet been examined empirically. Using vignettes in a between-subjects experimental design, this study investigated whether CPTSD is a less stigmatizing label than BPD for trauma survivors. Participants were 322 practicing psychotherapists. Evidence of BPD stigma was found, as was an affinity for CPTSD. Results generally supported CPTSD as a less stigmatizing label than BPD; therapists presented with a CPTSD-labeled vignette were somewhat less likely to blame the client for her symptomatic behavior and expected slightly stronger working alliance with the client than therapists presented with the BPD-labeled vignette. However, therapists’ agreement with the BPD diagnosis and theoretical orientation were found to be more salient than diagnostic label in affecting concepts related to the stigmatization of BPD clients. Additionally, familiarity with CPTSD was related to more favorable attitudes toward the client and her course of treatment. Regardless of CPTSD’s recognition as a formal diagnosis, education about the construct is widely recommended for therapists.

Specifický přístup psychoterapeutů zaměřených na tělo ke klientům v rámci psychoterapeutického vztahu jako jeden z hlavních aspektů jejich práce / Specific approach to clients within psychotherapeutic relationship built by body-oriented psychotherapists as one of the main aspect of their work.

Königsmarková, Eva January 2013 (has links)
Master Thesis Eva Königsmarková Specific approach to the clients within psychotherapeutic relationship built by the body- oriented psychotherapists as one of the main aspect of their work Abstract For the time being, body-oriented psychotherapy is not commonlly used in the Czech Republic. Moreover, specialized literature provides mainly information about individual branches, where psychotherapy works with the body, but a complex picture is lacking. Therefore, the master thesis tries to address body-oriented psychotherapy comprehensively. Its theoretical part defines general aspects of and introduces practices used in this branch, presents its ethical principles and names several studies, which were carried out in this field. Individual therapeutical approaches are described in the conclusion. The empirical part is based on research, which maps the means of body-oriented psychotherapists. Through interviews with five psychotherapists and analysis of the interviews, where grounded theory is applied, we discover that the key aspect used in the work is a specific approach towards the clients, which is decisive for the existence of a psychotherapeutical relationship between them and the client. Body-oriented psychotherapists consider such relationship as one of the key factors of efficient therapy. The...

No. of bitstreams: 1 Aurea Afonso M Caetano.pdf: 790496 bytes, checksum: 4a702ac2b97a00d83c580c9f78e4031e (MD5) Previous issue date: 2016-03-11 / This study aim was to research Brazilian Jungian analysts concerning who we are, how we work and what we think about our clinical practice. We intended to verify where we work and who are our patients. We also aimed at investigating which are the most important theoretical concepts for our clinical practice, which specific therapeutic techniques we use and how do we feel about the work we accomplish. Given the current psychology studies interests on the new findings of neurosciences, it was also our goal to understand whether the Jungian psychotherapist demonstrate concerns regarding this issue and what is the real use of these concepts in our clinical practice. For this research we created a questionnaire with 18 multiple-choice questions, containing queries about the personal and professional profile of therapists, and an open question asking about the meaning of the work for them. The invitation letter was sent by email to participants: Jungian psychotherapists with different types of training, who currently work in Brazil. The chosen method for sample selection was convenience sampling and we achieved a total of 282 responses. in order o elaborate the survey, invite the participants and process the received data, we used a research application named SurveyMonkey ® Questionnaire results showed a significant majority of female therapists, a higher concentration of Jungian therapists in the southeast region of the country and a majority of therapists who have graduated over 30 years ago. As for currently being both in therapy and supervision the sample is equally divided. the vast majority of these therapists have a psychology degree; significant share of respondents have some type of specialization and only a few of then have a doctorate degree. The concepts of complex, self and individuation process come to light as the most important in this research while the practice and experience as therapists as well as personal analysis are among the most important requirements for a qualified Jungian professional. Working with dream interpretation is essential for all respondents, followed by the use of expressive techniques. A significant majority of the surveyed therapists work with adult patients and the main reason for the search of therapy is usually a personal crisis. The consulting room is the main space of practice, but consultation mediated by computer via Skype or Facetime have emerged as an important possibility. Professionals who competed the questionnaire are significantly connected to some kind of study group and consider scientific production in the area very important, managing to work on the production of papers. Considering the answers collected when participants are asked about the meaningfulness of their work, we found out that there are several different types of connections, allowing different possibilities for personal expressions through professional practice.

Therapist countertransference experiences of clients' violent crime narratives in the South African context.

Berry, Kelly Joan. January 2012 (has links)
AIM: This study endeavoured to explore and understand countertransference reactions that occur when the therapist is exposed to clients‘ stories of violent crime. The study focused on the therapist‘s experiential responses resulting from exposure to traumatic stories and the subsequent consequences thereof. This was contextualized from the particular perspective of South African therapists and their above average exposure to crime related trauma. METHODOLOGY: A qualitative research design was used with Smith‘s Interpretive Phenomenological Analysis (IPA) as the methodology of choice. This included a double hermeneutic approach of analysing firstly the perceptions and secondly the meaning of such perceptions within the context of current literature. Nine South African psychologists were purposively selected and interviewed to provide the required data. CONCLUSION: The results of this study show that both concordant and complementary countertransference play a large role in the therapist‘s experience of 'identification with suffering‘ and feelings of avoidance whilst listening to stories of violent crime. Such concordant identification with the client, if not mediated through awareness of one‘s internal dynamics, can result in the therapist‘s over-identification with the client which may be associated with features of vicarious trauma. One way in which such vicarious trauma states may be resolved by the therapist is through the concordant mimicking of the client‘s need to purge and be contained. Experiences linked to vicarious trauma, however, are not a certainty when working with trauma but rather an outcome that depends greatly on a therapist‘s level of experience, self-awareness and ability to implement coping strategies. Through these mediating factors, what may usually be experienced as vicariously traumatic may be transformed into resilience and self-growth. It appears that the implementation of coping strategies (such as normalization and reframing) are also what allow South African therapists to manage in the context of high crime rates and caseloads. Despite the barriers that the public sector poses, the tenacity and hopefulness demonstrated by some of the participants allowed them to overcome some of the difficulties linked to working with trauma. / Thesis (M.Soc.Sc.)-University of KwaZulu-Natal, Durban, 2012.

[en] THE INTERNET SUBJECTIVE IMPACTS: SOME CLINICAL AND THEORETICAL REFLECTIONS / [pt] OS IMPACTOS SUBJETIVOS DA INTERNET: REFLEXÕES TEÓRICAS E CLÍNICAS

CARLA FARIA LEITAO 13 November 2003 (has links)
[en] The present thesis aims at examining the impacts of Internet diffusion on the clinical psychology fields and, particularly on the psychotherapy practice in use presently. Firstly, a theoretical discussion is done. It is about the current changes in the contemporaneous context of scientific production, considering the recent development of digital technologies and, especially Internet. Secondly, the discussion focuses specifically on the clinical psychology context, on the recent interest of this area for the studies of the Internet subjective impacts and, on the exam of the corresponding production. Due to the fact that such production is almost exclusively composed of empirical research and does not consider the effects of Internet on the clinical practice, the practical focus of the present thesis aimed at investigating the gap above. In other words, a qualitative research with 16 psychotherapists has been done to know what they have to say about the Internet arrival into their offices. The main results obtained can be divided into two groups. The first one refers to clinical indicators according to the interviewed therapists perspective. They expose subjective impacts suffered by the patientsusers of the Net. Those are: the pleasure in using Internet, the sensation of omnipotence they experience, the new ways of relationship with their own bodies, the new ways of excess they are exposed to and, the new ways of control done by means of the registers set available by the Net. Nevertheless, the second group of results refers to the impacts of the Net on therapists themselves, that is, their reaction to the Internet presence in their offices and to the disturbance they felt facing the new clinical issues set in scene by their patients on-line adventures.
