Este estudio buscó determinar si existe relación alguna entre las dimensiones de la calidad de servicio online (diseño web, fiabilidad, sensibilidad, confianza, personalización y contacto) a nivel de tiendas por departamento online en Lima, Perú, con las variables de calidad general de servicio, satisfacción e intención de compra de los consumidores de dichos comercios, como consecuencia del aumento del comercio online a raíz de la pandemia por COVID-19 en el año 2020. Este estudio se ha basado principalmente en investigaciones hechas en Asia y Europa, las cuales utilizaron como base el modelo de Parasuraman, Zeithaml, y Berry (1985) principalmente para la variable de calidad de servicio online y la escala Likert para la medición de dichos factores bajo un esquema de investigación cuantitativa. Dicha investigación evaluó, mediante regresiones y correlaciones, la relación entre las variables utilizando, por un lado, la Alfa de Cronbach para examinar la fiabilidad de las escalas, y, por otro lado, el software de SPSS para el análisis de los resultados. Cada investigación estableció niveles de relación diferentes en cuanto a cada dimensión de la calidad de servicio online con calidad general del servicio, satisfacción e intención de compra. / This study aimed to determine if there is a relation between the dimensions of e-service quality (web design, reliability, responsiveness, trust, personalization and contact) in the category of department stores in Lima, Peru, and the variables of overall service quality, satisfaction and purchase intention of consumers of such category, as a consequence of the increase of the e-commerce due to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. This study is mainly based in papers that are originally from Asia and Europe, using the models of Parasuraman, Zeithaml, y Berry (1985) for the variable of e-service quality and the Likert scale to measure those factors through a quantitative analysis. This investigation studied, through the use of regressions and correlations, the relationship between the variables using, on one hand, Cronbach's alpha coefficient to determine the reliability of the variables and, on the other hand, the SPSS software to analyse the results. Each paper established different levels of relations between each e-service quality dimension with the variables of overall service quality, satisfaction and purchase intention. / Trabajo de investigación

[pt] O crescimento da Internet, tanto do ponto de vista do número de usuários como dos serviços oferecidos, e o rápido progresso da tecnologia de comunicação sem fio, tornou possível uma demanda crescente por sistemas sem fios que permitam o acesso a Internet. Porém, um dos principais fatores desafiadores para o desenvolvimento desta nova forma de acesso é a mobilidade das estações móveis. A fim de resolver todos os problemas relacionados à introdução da mobilidade nesta nova forma de acesso, a Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) através de pesquisas definiu o Mobile IP como o protocolo padrão para esse novo cenário. Embora este protocolo receba inúmeras contribuições que visam melhorar o seu desempenho tanto nas questões de handoff e de segurança dos registros dos usuários, este protocolo não recebe a mesma atenção para a questão da falha dos seus Agentes de Mobilidade. Estes agentes suportam as conexões das estações móveis integrando as redes sem fio com as redes IP amplamente difundida. Portanto, o objetivo desta dissertação é apresentar uma proposta de tolerância à falha dos Agentes de Mobilidade a fim de contribuir nesta linha de pesquisa. / [en] The growth of the Internet, as much of the point of view of the number of users as of the offered services, and the fast progress of the wireless communication technology, it became possible a demand for wireless systems that allow the access the Internet. However, one of the main challenging factors for the development this new access way is the mobility of the mobile stations. In order to solve all of the problems related to the introduction of the mobility in this new access form, the Internet Engineering Task Forces (IETF) through researches it defined Mobile IP as the standard protocol for that new scenery. Although this protocol receives countless contributions that seek to improve it so much acting in the handoff subjects and of safety of the users' registrations, this protocol doesn't receive the same attention for the subject of the fault of their Mobility Agents. These agents support the connections of the mobile stations integrating the wireless networks with IP netowrks spread. Therefore, the objective of this dissertation is to present a proposal of fault tolerance of the Mobility Agents in order to contribute in this research line.

Improving fairness, throughput and blocking performance for long haul and short reach optical networks

Innovations in optical communication are expected to transform the landscape of global communications, internet and datacenter networks. This dissertation investigates several important issues in optical communication such as fairness, throughput, blocking probability and differentiated quality of service (QoS). Novel algorithms and new approaches have been presented to improve the performance of optical circuit switching (OCS) and optical burst switching (OBS) for long haul, and datacenter networks. Extensive simulations tests have been conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithms. These simulation tests were performed over a number of network topologies such as ring, mesh and U.S. Long-Haul, some high processing computing (HPC) topologies such as 2D and 6D mesh torus topologies and modern datacenter topologies such as FatTree and BCube. Two new schemes are proposed for long haul networks to improve throughput and hop count fairness in OBS networks. The idea is motivated by the observation that providing a slightly more priority to longer bursts over short bursts can significantly improve the throughput of the OBS networks without adversely affecting hop-count fairness. The results of extensive performance tests have shown that proposed schemes improve the throughput of optical OBS networks and enhance the hop-count fairness. Another contribution of this dissertation is the research work on developing routing and wavelength assignment schemes in multimode fiber networks. Two additional schemes for long haul networks are presented and evaluated over multimode fiber networks. First for alleviating the fairness problem in OBS networks using wavelength-division multiplexing as well as mode-division multiplexing while the second scheme for achieving higher throughput without sacrificing hop count fairness. We have also shown the significant benefits of using both mode division multiplexing and wavelength division multiplexing in real-life short-distance optical networks such as the optical circuit switching networks used in the hybrid electronic-optical switching architectures for datacenters. We evaluated four mode and wavelength assignment heuristics and compared their throughput performance. We also included preliminary results of impact of the cascaded mode conversion constraint on network throughput. Datacenter and high performance computing networks share a number of common performance goals. Another highly efficient adaptive mode wavelength- routing algorithm is presented over OBS networks to improve throughput of these networks. The effectiveness of the proposed model has been validated by extensive simulation results. In order to optimize bandwidth and maximize throughput of datacenters, an extension of TCP called multipath-TCP (MPTCP) has been evaluated over an OBS network using dense interconnect datacenter topologies. We have proposed a service differentiation scheme using MPTCP over OBS for datacenter traffic. The scheme is evaluated over mixed workload traffic model of datacenters and is shown to provide tangible service differentiation between flows of different priority levels. An adaptive QoS differentiation architecture is proposed for software defined optical datacenter networks using MPTCP over OBS. This scheme prioritizes flows based on current network state.

In modern networks, the increasing volume of network traffic and the diverse range of services with varying requirements necessitate the implementation of more advanced routing decisions and traffic engineering. This academic study proposes a QoS adaptive mechanism called "Sepitto", which utilizes Segment routing protocols, specifically SRv6, to address network-traffic control and congestion avoidance. Sepitto leverages data-plane traffic to convey Linux Qdisc statistics, such as queue size, packet drops, and buffer occupancy, in each Linux-based virtual router. By incorporating this information, edge routers become aware of the current network status, enabling them to make informed decisions regarding traffic paths based on QoS classes. SRv6 is employed to direct traffic along desired paths, avoiding congested links and minimizing queuing delays and overall latency. Moreover, Sepitto offers network administrators an interface to customize decision-making processes based on their policies, assigning costs to network graph edges by associating the provided statistics to a certain cost. To incorporate these costs, the implementation employs the Dijkstra algorithm to determine the path with the lowest cost. Performance analysis of Sepitto reveals minimal overhead compared to traditional routing methods, while effectively mitigating network congestion. The results demonstrate that Sepitto reduces traffic round-trip time during congestion while maintaining differentiated treatment for various QoS classes. / I moderna nätverk kräver den ökande volymen av nätverkstrafik och det varierade utbudet av tjänster med olika krav att mer avancerade ruttbeslut och trafikhantering implementeras. Denna akademiska studie föreslår en QoS-anpassningsmekanism kallad Sepitto", som använder sig av Segment Routing-protokoll, specifikt SRv6, för att hantera nätverkstrafik och undvika trängsel. Sepitto utnyttjar dataplanttrafik för att överföra Linux Qdisc-statistik, såsom köstorlek, paketförluster och buffertbeläggning, i varje Linux-baserad virtuell router. Genom att införliva denna information blir kantrouter medvetna om den aktuella nätverksstatusen och kan fatta informerade beslut om trafikvägar baserat på QoS-klasser. För att införliva dessa kostnader använder implementeringen Dijkstras algoritm för att bestämma vägen med lägst kostnad. Prestandaanalysen av Sepitto visar minimal överbelastning jämfört med traditionella rutteringsmetoder samtidigt som den effektivt motverkar nätverksträngsel. Resultaten visar att Sepitto minskar trafiklatensen under trängsel samtidigt som differentierad behandling bibehålls för olika QoS-klasser.

Along with playing an ever-increasing role in the integration of other communication networks and expanding in application diversities, the current Internet suffers from serious overuse and congestion bottlenecks. Efficient congestion control is fundamental to ensure the Internet reliability, satisfy the specified Quality-of-Service (QoS) constraints and achieve desirable performance in response to varying application scenarios. Active Queue Management (AQM) is a promising scheme to support end-to-end Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) congestion control because it enables the sender to react appropriately to the real network situation. Analytical performance models are powerful tools which can be adopted to investigate optimal setting of AQM parameters. Among the existing research efforts in this field, however, there is a current lack of analytical models that can be viewed as a cost-effective performance evaluation tool for AQM in the presence of heterogeneous traffic, generated by various network applications. This thesis aims to provide a generic and extensible analytical framework for analyzing AQM congestion control for various traffic types, such as non-bursty Poisson and bursty Markov-Modulated Poisson Process (MMPP) traffic. Specifically, the Markov analytical models are developed for AQM congestion control scheme coupled with queue thresholds and then are adopted to derive expressions for important QoS metrics. The main contributions of this thesis are listed as follows: iii ¿ Study the queueing systems for modeling AQM scheme subject to single-class and multiple-classes Poisson traffic, respectively. Analyze the effects of the varying threshold, mean traffic arrival rate, service rate and buffer capacity on the key performance metrics. ¿ Propose an analytical model for AQM scheme with single class bursty traffic and investigate how burstiness and correlations affect the performance metrics. The analytical results reveal that high burstiness and correlation can result in significant degradation of AQM performance, such as increased queueing delay and packet loss probability, and reduced throughput and utlization. ¿ Develop an analytical model for a single server queueing system with AQM in the presence of heterogeneous traffic and evaluate the aggregate and marginal performance subject to different threshold values, burstiness degree and correlation. ¿ Conduct stochastic analysis of a single-server system with single-queue and multiple-queues, respectively, for AQM scheme in the presence of multiple priority traffic classes scheduled by the Priority Resume (PR) policy. ¿ Carry out the performance comparison of AQM with PR and First-In First-Out (FIFO) scheme and compare the performance of AQM with single PR priority queue and multiple priority queues, respectively.

In order to efficiently utilize the scarce wireless resource as well as keep up with the ever-increasing demand for Quality-of-Service (QoS) of multimedia applications, wireless networks are undergoing rapid development and dramatic changes in the underlying technologies and protocols. The Medium Access Control (MAC) protocol, which coordinates the channel access and data transmission of wireless stations, plays a pivotal role in wireless networks. Performance modelling and analysis has been and continues to be of great theoretical and practical importance in the design and development of wireless networks. This research is devoted to developing efficient and cost-effective analytical tools for the performance analysis and enhancement of MAC protocols in Wireless Local Area Networks (WLANs) under heterogeneous multimedia traffic. To support the MAC-layer QoS in WLANs, the IEEE 802.11e Enhanced Distributed Channel Access (EDCA) protocol has proposed three QoS differentiation schemes in terms of Arbitrary Inter-Frame Space (AIFS), Contention Window (CW), and Transmission Opportunity (TXOP). This research starts with the development of new analytical models for the TXOP scheme specified in the EDCA protocol under Poisson traffic. A dynamic TXOP scheme is then proposed to adjust the TXOP limits according to the status of the transmission queue. Theoretical analysis and simulation experiments show that the proposed dynamic scheme largely improves the performance of TXOP. To evaluate the TXOP scheme in the presence of ii heterogeneous traffic, a versatile analytical model is developed to capture the traffic heterogeneity and model the features of burst transmission. The performance results highlight the importance of taking into account the heterogeneous traffic for the accurate evaluation of the TXOP scheme in wireless multimedia networks. To obtain a thorough and deep understanding of the performance attributes of the EDCA protocol, a comprehensive analytical model is then proposed to accommodate the integration of the three QoS schemes of EDCA in terms of AIFS, CW, and TXOP under Poisson traffic. The performance results show that the TXOP scheme can not only support service differentiation but also improve the network performance, whereas the AIFS and CW schemes provide QoS differentiation only. Moreover, the results demonstrate that the MAC buffer size has considerable impact on the QoS performance of EDCA under Poisson traffic. To investigate the performance of EDCA in wireless multimedia networks, an analytical model is further developed for EDCA under heterogeneous traffic. The performance results demonstrate the significant effects of heterogeneous traffic on the total delay and frame losses of EDCA with different buffer sizes. Finally, an efficient admission control scheme is presented for the IEEE 802.11e WLANs based on analytical modelling and a game-theoretical approach. The admission control scheme can maintain the system operation at an optimal point where the utility of the Access Point (AP) is maximized with the QoS constraints of various users.

Multi-Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) makes use of traffic engineering (TE) techniques and a variety of protocols to establish pre-determined highly efficient routes in Wide Area Network (WAN). Unlike IP networks in which routing decision has to be made through header analysis on a hop-by-hop basis, MPLS makes use of a short bit sequence that indicates the forwarding equivalence class (FEC) of a packet and utilises a predefined routing table to handle packets of a specific FEC type. Thus header analysis of packets is not required, resulting in lower latency. In addition, packets of similar characteristics can be routed in a consistent manner. For example, packets carrying real-time information can be routed to low latency paths across the networks. Thus the key success to MPLS is to efficiently control and distribute the bandwidth available between applications across the networks. A lot of research effort on bandwidth management in MPLS networks has already been devoted in the past. However, with the imminent roll out of 5G, MPLS is seen as a key technology for mobile backhaul. To cope with the 5G demands of rich, context aware and multimedia-based user applications, more efficient bandwidth management solutions need to be derived. This thesis focuses on the design of bandwidth management algorithms, more specifically QoS scheduling, in MPLS network for 5G mobile backhaul. The aim is to ensure the reliability and the speed of packet transfer across the network. As 5G is expected to greatly improve the user experience with innovative and high quality services, users’ perceived quality of service (QoS) needs to be taken into account when deriving such bandwidth management solutions. QoS expectation from users are often subjective and vague. Thus this thesis proposes the use of fuzzy logic based solution to provide service aware and user-centric bandwidth management in order to satisfy requirements imposed by the network and users. Unfortunately, the disadvantage of fuzzy logic is scalability since dependable fuzzy rules and membership functions increase when the complexity of being modelled increases. To resolve this issue, this thesis proposes the use of neuro-fuzzy to solicit interpretable IF-THEN rules.The algorithms are implemented and tested through NS2 and Matlab simulations. The performance of the algorithms are evaluated and compared with other conventional algorithms in terms of average throughput, delay, reliability, cost, packet loss ratio, and utilization rate. Simulation results show that the neuro-fuzzy based algorithm perform better than fuzzy and other conventional packet scheduling algorithms using IP and IP over MPLS technologies. / Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND)

Virtualisation is one of the underlying technologies that led to the success of cloud computing platforms (CCPs). The technology, along with other features such as multitenancy allows delivering of computing resources in the form of service through efficient sharing of physical resources. As these resources are provided through virtualisation, a robust agreement is outlined for both the quantity and quality-of-service (QoS) in a service level agreement (SLA) documents. QoS is one of the essential components of SLA, where performance is one of its primary aspects. As the technology is progressively maturing and receiving massive acceptance, researchers from industry and academia continue to carry out novel theoretical and practical studies of various essential aspects of CCPs with significant levels of success. This thesis starts with the assessment of the current level of knowledge in the literature of cloud computing in general and CCPs in particular. In this context, a substantive literature review was carried out focusing on performance modelling, testing, analysis and evaluation of Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), methodologies. To this end, a systematic mapping study (SMSs) of the literature was conducted. SMS guided the choice and direction of this research. The SMS was followed by the development of a novel open queueing network model (QNM) at equilibrium for the performance modelling and analysis of an OpenStack IaaS CCP. Moreover, it was assumed that an external arrival pattern is Poisson while the queueing stations provided exponentially distributed service times. Based on Jackson’s theorem, the model was exactly decomposed into individual M/M/c (c ≥ 1) stations. Each of these queueing stations was analysed in isolation, and closed-form expressions for key performance metrics, such as mean response time, throughput, server (resource) utilisation as well as bottleneck device were determined. Moreover, the research was extended with a proposed open QNM with a bursty external arrival pattern represented by a Compound Poisson Process (CPP) with geometrically distributed batches, or equivalently, variable Generalised Exponential (GE) interarrival and service times. Each queueing station had c (c ≥ 1) GE-type servers. Based on a generic maximum entropy (ME) product form approximation, the proposed open GE-type QNM was decomposed into individual GE/GE/c queueing stations with GE-type interarrival and service times. The evaluation of the performance metrics and bottleneck analysis of the QNM were determined, which provided vital insights for the capacity planning of existing CCP architectures as well as the design and development of new ones. The results also revealed, due to a significant impact on the burstiness of interarrival and service time processes, resulted in worst-case performance bounds scenarios, as appropriate. Finally, an investigation was carried out into modelling and analysis of performance and security trade-offs for a CCP architecture, based on a proposed generalised stochastic Petri net (GSPN) model with security-detection control model (SDCM). In this context, ‘optimal’ combined performance and security metrics were defined with both M-type or GE-type arrival and service times and the impact of security incidents on performance was assessed.
