Adaptive Resource Allocation for Statistical QoS Provisioning in Mobile Wireless Communications and Networks

Due to the highly-varying wireless channels over time, frequency, and space domains, statistical QoS provisioning, instead of deterministic QoS guarantees, has become a recognized feature in the next-generation wireless networks. In this dissertation, we study the adaptive wireless resource allocation problems for statistical QoS provisioning, such as guaranteeing the specified delay-bound violation probability, upper-bounding the average loss-rate, optimizing the average goodput/throughput, etc., in several typical types of mobile wireless networks. In the first part of this dissertation, we study the statistical QoS provisioning for mobile multicast through the adaptive resource allocations, where different multicast receivers attempt to receive the common messages from a single base-station sender over broadcast fading channels. Because of the heterogeneous fading across different multicast receivers, both instantaneously and statistically, how to design the efficient adaptive rate control and resource allocation for wireless multicast is a widely cited open problem. We first study the time-sharing based goodput-optimization problem for non-realtime multicast services. Then, to more comprehensively characterize the QoS provisioning problems for mobile multicast with diverse QoS requirements, we further integrate the statistical delay-QoS control techniques — effective capacity theory, statistical loss-rate control, and information theory to propose a QoS-driven optimization framework. Applying this framework and solving for the corresponding optimization problem, we identify the optimal tradeoff among statistical delay-QoS requirements, sustainable traffic load, and the average loss rate through the adaptive resource allocations and queue management. Furthermore, we study the adaptive resource allocation problems for multi-layer video multicast to satisfy diverse statistical delay and loss QoS requirements over different video layers. In addition, we derive the efficient adaptive erasure-correction coding scheme for the packet-level multicast, where the erasure-correction code is dynamically constructed based on multicast receivers’ packet-loss statuses, to achieve high error-control efficiency in mobile multicast networks. In the second part of this dissertation, we design the adaptive resource allocation schemes for QoS provisioning in unicast based wireless networks, with emphasis on statistical delay-QoS guarantees. First, we develop the QoS-driven time-slot and power allocation schemes for multi-user downlink transmissions (with independent messages) in cellular networks to maximize the delay-QoS-constrained sum system throughput. Second, we propose the delay-QoS-aware base-station selection schemes in distributed multiple-input-multiple-output systems. Third, we study the queueaware spectrum sensing in cognitive radio networks for statistical delay-QoS provisioning. Analyses and simulations are presented to show the advantages of our proposed schemes and the impact of delay-QoS requirements on adaptive resource allocations in various environments.

無線網路在汽車業的應用研究 / The Reasrch of the Application of the Wireless on Automobile Industry

汽車一直是人類重要的交通工具,近年來由於汽車電子與資訊通訊(Telematics)技術的進步,使汽車的功能更加豐富化;再加上無線網路的普遍應用,使得汽車的角色,從原來的代步工具,逐漸成為行動辦公室、娛樂及生活空間的延伸。汽車業也從傳統的製造業,逐漸邁向高科技。 目前汽車電子結合無線網路的運用,大部份強調在人身安全、緊急救援、車輛保全、提供生活資訊、多媒體娛樂以及道路導航等領域,但對於用車人最基本的需求「用車不中斷」的服務,則尚無應用的案例。 本研究從車商所提供的服務現況開始探討,藉由PZB服務模式的解析,找出供給與需求之間的缺口(Gap),再以無線網路所提供的服務進行模擬,試圖找出應用無線網路來填補車商與用車人之間服務缺口的可行性。 本研究蒐集了現有汽車業領導品牌所提供的汽車電子應用實例,列述其提供服務的項目、重點以及特色,除了比較這些實例的差異之外,同時也與本研究的重點--「如何應用無線網路提供用車不中斷的服務」做比較,以說明其差異之處。 本研究對汽車業未來應用無線網路的情境,提出三種模擬,針對這些模擬的情境,分析對汽車業價值鏈的各個組成要素所可能帶來的影響與衝擊;並針對這些影響與衝擊提出必要的因應措施。以汽車業本身而言,包括流程的改變、組織的改變以及科技工具的應用;對其周邊的產業,例如保險業、租車業、分期購車業、中古車業以及拖吊業等,則描述其可能的改變及需採行的對策作法。 效益是決定新服務模式可行性的關鍵,本研究預期可在無形的效益方面給用車人及汽車業者帶來雙贏的效果,也替汽車業創造革命性的創新服務優勢;在有形效益方面則可降低抛錨的次數,節省維修時間與費用,成果十分卓著。 新的服務觀念與模式是本研究的重要成果,如應用無線網路後,把車商所提供的服務方式由被動轉為主動,把「預測式」保養改變成「預約式」保養,甚至把長久以來車主必須要進服務廠才能獲得服務的方式改變成「到府服務」,「以廠就車」的服務方式,這些都是值得車商採行之處。 但一個創新模式要成功的導入,必須具備幾個關鍵要素。在本研究的最後也一一列述這些關鍵成功要素;另外也列舉了一些未來尚待研究的議題,希望有興趣在此領域的研究先進們能一起來共襄盛舉。 關鍵詞: 資訊、通訊、無線網路、無線通訊、汽車、汽車業、服務、服務模式、服務流程、品質、服務品質、汽車電子、車用電子、車載系統、維修、Telematics, OnStar, G-book / Automobile has been an important mean of transportation to human for decades. With the breakthrough of Telematics technologies and innovation of services, abundant functions on the automobile emerge quickly. Also, of late, the use of wireless has been widespread, this gradually causes the change of the role of automobiles from original purpose of movement to the extension of office, amusement and even the life. The industry of automobile is making progress from traditional manufacturing to high-tech properties. The current application of the combination between Telematics and wireless mostly emphasizes on some specific facets, such as human-safety, emergency-assistance, vehicle-guard, amusement and driving-direction. However, services for “driving without interruption”, which is the basic demand of driving a car, haven’t been implemented in the real world. This research starts from the current situation of the services provided by automobile dealers and uses the celebrated PZB model to analyze the gap between the service side of demand and supply. Depending on those analyses, we simulate the imaginary future service scenario of wireless application, making effort to find the feasible way to balance the service gap. This research provides three scenarios which apply wireless technology to automobile industry to analyze the effect and impact on the component within the value chain of automobile industry. Also, we offer possible corresponding measures, for automobile dealers including the revise of process, the adjustment of whole organization and the manipulation of technologies. On the other side of other related industries, such as insurance business, automobile charter business, second-hand market, we describe the possible change and the mode of coordination with automobile industry. The innovative concept and service model is the important result of this research and is worth adopting. The application of wireless will transfer the service mode from passive way to active way and will bring “reservation maintenance” to replace the current “forecast maintenance”. With the expectation of the conduction of successful service model, industry should possess some key factors. We present these key factors and list other valuable issues for thorough search. Depuis quelques années, la recherche dans le domaine des réseaux maillés sans fil ("Wireless Mesh Network (WMN)" en anglais) suscite un grand intérêt auprès de la communauté des chercheurs en télécommunications. Ceci est dû aux nombreux avantages que la technologie WMN offre, telles que l'installation facile et peu coûteuse, la connectivité fiable et l'interopérabilité flexible avec d'autres réseaux existants (réseaux Wi-Fi, réseaux WiMax, réseaux cellulaires, réseaux de capteurs, etc.). Cependant, plusieurs problèmes restent encore à résoudre comme le passage à l'échelle, la sécurité, la qualité de service (QdS), la gestion des ressources, etc. Ces problèmes persistent pour les WMNs, d'autant plus que le nombre des utilisateurs va en se multipliant. Il faut donc penser à améliorer les protocoles existants ou à en concevoir de nouveaux. L'objectif de notre recherche est de résoudre certaines des limitations rencontrées à l'heure actuelle dans les WMNs et d'améliorer la QdS des applications multimédia temps-réel (par exemple, la voix). Le travail de recherche de cette thèse sera divisé essentiellement en trois principaux volets: le contrôle d‟admission du trafic, la différentiation du trafic et la réaffectation adaptative des canaux lors de la présence du trafic en relève ("handoff" en anglais). Dans le premier volet, nous proposons un mécanisme distribué de contrôle d'admission se basant sur le concept des cliques (une clique correspond à un sous-ensemble de liens logiques qui interfèrent les uns avec les autres) dans un réseau à multiples-sauts, multiples-radios et multiples-canaux, appelé RCAC. Nous proposons en particulier un modèle analytique qui calcule le ratio approprié d'admission du trafic et qui garantit une probabilité de perte de paquets dans le réseau n'excédant pas un seuil prédéfini. Le mécanisme RCAC permet d‟assurer la QdS requise pour les flux entrants, sans dégrader la QdS des flux existants. Il permet aussi d‟assurer la QdS en termes de longueur du délai de bout en bout pour les divers flux. Le deuxième volet traite de la différentiation de services dans le protocole IEEE 802.11s afin de permettre une meilleure QdS, notamment pour les applications avec des contraintes temporelles (par exemple, voix, visioconférence). À cet égard, nous proposons un mécanisme d'ajustement de tranches de temps ("time-slots"), selon la classe de service, ED-MDA (Enhanced Differentiated-Mesh Deterministic Access), combiné à un algorithme efficace de contrôle d'admission EAC (Efficient Admission Control), afin de permettre une utilisation élevée et efficace des ressources. Le mécanisme EAC prend en compte le trafic en relève et lui attribue une priorité supérieure par rapport au nouveau trafic pour minimiser les interruptions de communications en cours. Dans le troisième volet, nous nous intéressons à minimiser le surcoût et le délai de re-routage des utilisateurs mobiles et/ou des applications multimédia en réaffectant les canaux dans les WMNs à Multiples-Radios (MR-WMNs). En premier lieu, nous proposons un modèle d'optimisation qui maximise le débit, améliore l'équité entre utilisateurs et minimise le surcoût dû à la relève des appels. Ce modèle a été résolu par le logiciel CPLEX pour un nombre limité de noeuds. En second lieu, nous élaborons des heuristiques/méta-heuristiques centralisées pour permettre de résoudre ce modèle pour des réseaux de taille réelle. Finalement, nous proposons un algorithme pour réaffecter en temps-réel et de façon prudente les canaux aux interfaces. Cet algorithme a pour objectif de minimiser le surcoût et le délai du re-routage spécialement du trafic dynamique généré par les appels en relève. Ensuite, ce mécanisme est amélioré en prenant en compte l‟équilibrage de la charge entre cliques. / In the last few years, Wireless Mesh Networks (WMNs) area brought a new field of advanced research among network specialized scientists. This is due to the many advantages which WMN technology offers, such as: easy and inexpensive installation, reliable connectivity and flexible interoperability with other existing networks (Wi-Fi, WiMax, Cellular, Sensors, WPAN networks, etc.). However, several problems still remain to be solved such as the scalability, the security, the quality of service (QoS), the resources management, etc. These problems persist for WMNs, therefore the researchers propose to improve the existing protocols or to conceive new protocols for WMNs. In order to solve some of the current limitations met in the wireless networks and to improve QoS of real time multimedia applications in such networks, our research will be divided primarily into three parts: traffic admission control, traffic differentiation and handoff-aware channel assignment schemes. In the first part, we propose a distributed admission control scheme for WMNs, namely, Routing on Cliques (a clique is defined as a subset of logical links that interfere with each other) Admission Control (RCAC). Particularly, we propose an analytical model to compute the appropriate acceptance ratio and guarantee that the packet loss probability in the network does not exceed a threshold value. The model also allows computing end-to-end delay to process flow requests with delay constraints. In the second part, we design an efficient scheduler for Mesh Deterministic Access (MDA) in IEEE 802.11s-based WMNs, called Enhanced Differentiated-MDA (ED-MDA) to support voice and video applications with strict requirements on delay and on blocking/dropping probability. ED-MDA together with Enhanced Admission Control, namely EAC, reserves the minimum amount of necessary resources while maintaining an acceptable handoff call dropping and high resource utilization. The final section addresses handoff-aware channel assignment (CA) problem in Multiple Radios WMNs (MR-WMNs). In this section, we first propose a multi-objective optimization model that, besides maximizing throughput, improves fairness and handoff experience of mesh clients. In this model, the Jain’s index is used to maximize users’ fairness and to allow same channel assignments to links involved in the same high handoff traffic, thus reducing handoff-triggered re-routing characterized by its high latency. Second, we solved this model to obtain exact solutions by the CPLEX software for a limited number of nodes. We therefore propose to use centralized heuristics/meta-heuristics algorithms as an offline CA process to obtain near-optimal solutions for larger instances (real size network). Moreover, in order to adapt to traffic dynamics caused especially by user handoffs, an online CA scheme is proposed that carefully re-assigns channels to interfaces with the purpose of continuously minimizing the re-routing overhead/latency during user handoffs. This online scheme is improved using load balancing.

Μελέτη αρχιτεκτονικής υπηρεσιών-QoS πάνω σε τηλεπικοινωνιακά δίκτυα νέας γενιάς (NGN) (με χρήση εξομοιωτή OPNET)

Οι οικονομικές και τεχνολογικές εξελίξεις των τελευταίων ετών, η απελευθέρωση της αγοράς, οι ισχυρές κατά απαίτηση πολυμεσικές υπηρεσίες καθώς και ο αυξημένος αριθμός χρηστών των κινητών δικτύων υποδεικνύουν την αναγκαιότητα της σύγκλισης των δύο δικτυακών τεχνολογιών (κινητή τηλεφωνία και internet) με στόχο την παροχή υπηρεσιών Internet στο περιβάλλον των κινητών επικοινωνιών. Η παραπάνω απαίτηση οδήγησε στην δημιουργία του δικτύου επόμενης γενιάς NGN. Η διπλωματική αυτή εργασία ασχολείται με την μελέτη της αρχιτεκτονικής του επιπέδου υπηρεσιών και την υποστήριξη Ποιότητας Υπηρεσίας (QoS) σε δίκτυα Νέας Γενιάς. Συγκεκριμένα δίνεται έμφαση στις λειτουργίες ελέγχου, σηματοδοσίας και λειτουργιών αρχιτεκτονικής του QoS σε επίπεδο υπηρεσιών. Αρχικά, ορίζουμε την έννοια “QoS” όσον αφορά την οπτική του δικτύου και το χρήστη. Περιγράφονται η αρχιτεκτονική του στρώματος υπηρεσιών του δικτύου καθώς και οι λειτουργίες ελέγχου πόρου και αποδοχής των κλήσεων, που αποτελούν σημαντικό μέρος της αρχιτεκτονικής του NGN. Στη συνέχεια παρουσιάζονται αρχιτεκτονικές που προορίζονται για την παροχή του QoS (IntServ, DiffServ), στη Συμφωνία Στάθμης Παρεχόμενης Υπηρεσίας (SLA), το πρωτόκολλο σηματοδοσίας COPS. Επίσης, δίνουμε έμφαση σε ορισμένες πτυχές (χρονοδρομολόγηση, διαχείριση ουρών) μίας QoS αρχιτεκτονικής, οι οποίες είναι ζωτικής σημασίας όσον αφορά την αποδοτική παροχή Ποιότητας Υπηρεσίας. Στη συνέχεια, με τη χρήση του εργαλείου προσομοίωσης OPNET, διεξάγουμε μια σειρά προσομοιώσεων σε ένα ATM και σε ένα NGN δίκτυο. Τέλος, παραθέτουμε και αναλύουμε τα αποτελέσματα των προαναφερθέντων πειραμάτων. / The concept of an NGN (Next Generation Network) has been introduced to take into consideration the new realities in the telecommunications industry, characterized by factors such as: competition among operators due to ongoing deregulation of markets, explosion of digital traffic, e.g.,increasing use of "the Internet", increasing demand for new multimedia services, increasing demand for a general mobility, convergence of networks and services, etc. This thesis has as subject the architecture of service stratum and presents an overview of standards functions defining the Quality of Service (QoS) in Next Generation Networks (NGNs). Several standards bodies define the QoS control architectures based on their scope of work. Specifically, emphasis is given to control functions, signalling and functional architecture of QoS in service stratum. Firstly, we define the meaning of QoS according to the view of the operator’s network and terminal users. The functional architecture of service stratum and especially the part of resource and admission control functions are described in the main body. Furthermore, architectures as IntServ and DiffServ, SLAs and COPS protocol are used as providers of the QoS. Scheduling and queuing management are necessary to optimize the QoS in NGN networks. In this project, we use OPNET simulator in two scenarios to determine construct and control ATM and NGN networks. Finally, collect the results of the experiments and analyze them.

Διερεύνηση των τεχνικών παραμέτρων για την μεγιστοποίηση της ποιότητας των παρεχομένων υπηρεσιών στα συστήματα MIMO

Στην παρούσα διπλωματική εργασία μελετάμε τα πλεονεκτήματα που επιφέρει η χρήση πολλαπλών κεραιών στον πομπό και στον δέκτη, κατά την μετάδοση, με στόχο την βελτίωση των παρεχομένων υπηρεσιών στο χρήστη. Στο Κεφάλαιο 1, γίνεται μια ιστορική αναδρομή των ασύρματων επικοινωνιών καθώς των σύγχρονων ασύρματων τεχνολογιών και κεραιών που χρησιμοποιούνται. Στη συνέχεια γίνεται μια αναφορά στις έννοιες του διαφορισμού, του κέρδους διάταξης και της χωρικής πολυπλεξίας οι οποίες συνδέονται άρρηκτα με τα συστήματα MIMO. Στο Κεφάλαιο 2, αναφερόμαστε σε όλα εκείνα τα χαρακτηριστικά που περιγράφουν το ασύρματο κανάλι και εξάγουμε την γραμμική σχέση εισόδου-εξόδου του ασύρματου καναλιού. Στην συνέχεια γίνεται μια ανάλυση των στοχαστικών μοντέλων περιγραφής του ασύρματου διαύλου διαλείψεων και πιο συγκεκριμένα των μοντέλων Rayleigh και Rice. Στο Κεφάλαιο 3 εξετάζουμε την αξιοπιστία διαφόρων τύπων κεραιοσυστημάτων, ως προς τον ρυθμό των ρυθμό των λανθασμένων συμβόλων στον δέκτη. Πιο συγκεκριμένα εξετάζεται η τεχνική Maximal Ratio Combining για τα συστήματα SIMO καθώς και του σχήματος Alamouti για τα συστήματα ΜISO. Συνεχίζοντας στα MIMO συστήματα αναλύουμε τις μεθόδους ισοστάθμισης για την ανάκτηση των δεδομένων, και πιο συγκεκριμένα τις τεχνικές Zero Forcing, Minimum Mean Square Error,V-Blast και καθώς και την βέλτιστη τεχνική Maximum Likelihood. Στο τελευταίο μέρος της εργασίας αναλύουμε τα πλεονεκτήματα των MIMO συστημάτων, ως προς την χωρητικότητα που προσφέρουν, σε στοχαστικά κανάλια διαλείψεων.Στη συνέχεια, γίνεται αναφορά στην μέθοδο SVD και στην αναπαράσταση του MIMO καναλιού από έναν αριθμό ανεξάρτητων SISO διαύλων. Κλείνοντας αναφέρουμε την μέθοδο βέλτιστης κατανομής ισχύος στις κεραίες του πομπού Water-filling, και στην περαιτέρω αύξηση της χωρητικότητας του διαύλου που προσφέρει. / In this diploma thesis we are investigating the benefits of using Multiple Input and Multiple Output antennas in information transmission, with final goal to improve Quality of Service. The first Chapter, includes a historical background of the wireless communications but also is a reference to the modern wireless and antenna technologies. Moreover, we introduce the definition of new concepts, such as diversity and array gain and also spatial multiplexing, which are closely connected with MIMO technology. In the second chapter, we introduce the characteristics which they are describe the wireless channel, while simultaneously we mention the linear input-output relationship of the wireless channel. Additionally, we analyze the stochastic wireless channel models, namely the Rayleigh and the Rician fading models. In the third chapter, we investigate the reliability of different types of antenna topologies, regarding the pace of the invalid symbols in the transmitter. More specifically, we examine the Maximal Ratio Combining and Alamouti technique, for SIMO and MISO systems respectively. The next step is to analyze the equalization methods, which are used in MIMO antennas, and more specifically are, Zero Forcing, Minimum Mean Square Error and V-Blast receivers, but also the optimal Maximum Likelihood equalizer. In the last part of this Thesis, we investigate the benefits of MIMO systems regarding the Capacity, in random channels. Also, a reference to the SVD method has been made,which we use to analyze the MIMO channel, in a number of parallel SISO channels. Lastly, we use the water-filling method to allocate, with the optimal way, the given power in the transmit antennas, a fact that leads to even greater Capacity gain.

Decentralized multiantenna transceiver optimization for heterogeneous networks

Abstract This thesis focuses on transceiver optimization for heterogeneous multi-user multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) wireless communications systems. The aim is to design decentralized beamforming methods with low signaling overhead for improved spatial spectrum utilization. A wide range of transceiver optimization techniques are covered, with particular consideration of decentralized optimization, fast convergence, computational complexity and signaling limitations. The proposed methods are shown to provide improved rate of convergence, when compared to the conventional weighted minimum MSE (WMMSE) approach. This makes them suitable for time-correlated channel conditions, in which the ability to follow the changing channel conditions is essential. Coordinated beamforming under quality of service (QoS) constraints is considered for interfering broadcast channel. Decomposition based decentralized processing approaches are shown to enable the weighted sum rate maximization (WSRMax) in time-correlated channel conditions. Pilot-aided decentralized WSRMax beamformer estimation is studied for coordinated multi-point (CoMP) joint processing (JP). In stream specific estimation (SSE), all effective channels are individually estimated. The beamformers are then constructed from the locally estimated channels. On the other hand, with direct estimation (DE) of the beamformers, only the intended signal needs to be separately estimated and the covariance matrices are implicitly estimated from the received pilot training matrices. This makes the pilot design more robust to pilot contamination. These methods show that CoMP JP is feasible even in relatively fading channel conditions and with limited backhaul capacity by employing decentralized beamformer processing. In the final part of the thesis, a relay-assisted cellular system with decentralized processing is considered, in which users are served either directly by the base stations or via relays for WSRMax or sum power minimization subject to rate constraints. Zero-forcing and coordinated beamforming provide a trade-off between complexity, in-band signaling and spectrum utilization. Relays are shown to be beneficial in many scenarios when the in-band signaling is accounted for. This thesis shows that decentralized downlink MIMO transceiver design with a reasonable computational complexity is feasible in various system architectures even when signaling resources are limited and channel conditions are moderately fast fading. / Tiivistelmä Tämä väitöskirja keskittyy lähetin- ja vastaanotinoptimointiin heterogeenisissä monikäyttäjä- ja moniantennijärjestelmissä. Tavoitteena on parantaa tilatason suorituskykyä tutkimalla hajautettuja keilanmuodostusmenetelmiä, joissa ohjaussignaloinnin tarve on alhainen. Erityisesti keskitytään hajautetun keilanmuodostuksen optimointiin, nopeaan konvergenssiin, laskennalliseen kompleksisuuteen sekä signaloinnin rajoitteisiin. Esitettyjen menetelmien osoitetaan parantavan konvergenssinopeutta ja vähentävän signaloinnin tarvetta, verrattaessa tunnettuun WMMSE-menetelmään. Nämä mahdollistavat lähetyksen aikajatkuvissa kanavissa, joissa kanavan muutosten seuraaminen on erityisen tärkeää. Näiden menetelmien osoitetaan mahdollistavan hajautetun ja priorisoidun tiedonsiirtonopeuden maksimoinnin monisolujärjestelmissä sekä aikajatkuvissa kanavissa käyttäjäkohtaisilla siirtonopeustakuilla. Pilottiavusteisten lähetys- ja vastaanotinkeilojen estimointia tutkitaan yhteislähetysjärjestelmissä. Yksittäisten lähetyskanavien estimoinnissa effektiiviset kanavat estimoidaan yksitellen, ja lähetys- ja vastaanotinkovarianssimatriisit muodostetaan summaamalla paikalliset kanavaestimaatit. Suoraestimoinnissa ainoastaan oman käyttäjän effektiivinen kanava estimoimaan erikseen. Tällöin kovarianssimatriisit saadaan suoraan vastaanotetuista pilottisignaaleista. Tämä tekee estimaateista vähemmän herkkiä häiriölle. Hajautetun yhteislähetyksen osoitetaan olevan mahdollista, jopa verrattain nopeasti muuttuvissa kanavissa sekä rajallisella verkkoyhteydellä lähettimien välillä. Viimeisessä osassa tutkitaan välittäjä-avusteisia järjestelmiä, joissa käyttäjiä palvellaan joko suoraan tukiasemasta tai välittäjä-aseman kautta. Optimointikriteereinä käytetään siirtonopeuden maksimointia sekä lähetystehon minimointia siirtonopeustakuilla. Nollaanpakottava sekä koordinoitu keilanmuodostus tarjoavat valinna laskennallisen kompleksisuuden, ohjaussignaloinnin sekä suorituskyvyn välillä. Välittäjä-avusteisen lähetyksen osoitetaan olevan hyödyllisiä useissa tilanteissa, kun radiorajanpinnan yli tapahtuvan signaloinnin tarve otetaan huomioon keilanmuodostuksessa. Tässä väitöskirjassa osoitetaan hajautetun keilanmuodostuksen olevan mahdollista verrattaen vähäisillä laskennallisilla resursseilla heterogeenisissä moniantennijärjestelmissä. Esitetyt menetelmät tarjoavat ratkaisuja järjestelmiin, joissa ohjaussignalointiresurssit ovat rajallisia ja radiokanava on jatkuvasti muuttuva.

La motivation principale de cette thèse est de faire face à l'accroissement de la complexité des systèmes informatiques, qui, dans un futur proche ( de l'ordre de quelques années) risque fort d'être le principal frein à leur évolution et à leur développement. Aujourd'hui la tendance s'inverse et le coût de gestion humaine dépasse le coût des infrastructures matérielles et logicielles. De plus, l'administration manuelle de grands systèmes (applications distribuées, réseaux de capteurs, équipements réseaux) est non seulement lente mais aussi sujette à de nombreuses erreurs humaines. Un des domaines de recherche émergent est celui de l'informatique autonomique qui a pour but de rendre ces systèmes auto-gérés. Nous proposons une approche qui permet de décrire des politiques de gestion autonomiques de haut niveau. Ces politiques permettent au système d'assurer quatre propriétés fondamentales de l'auto-gestion: l'auto-guérison, l'auto-configuration, l'auto-protection et l'auto-optimisation. Nos contributions portent sur la spécification de diagrammes de description de politiques de gestion autonomiques appelés (S)PDD "(Sensor) Policy Description Diagrams". Ces diagrammes sont implémentés dans le gestionnaire autonomique TUNe et l'approche a été validée sur de nombreux systèmes: simulation électromagnétique répartie sur grille de calcul, réseaux de capteurs SunSPOT, répartiteur de calcul DIET. Une deuxième partie présente une modélisation mathématique de l’auto-optimisation pour un « datacenter ». Nous introduisons un problème de minimisation d’un critère intégrant d’une part la consommation électrique des équipements du réseau du « datacenter » et d’autre part la qualité de service des applications déployées sur le « datacenter ». Une heuristique permet de prendre en compte les contraintes dues aux fonctions de routage utilisées. / The main challenge of this thesis is to cope with the growing complexity of IT systems. In a near future (mainly the next few years) this complexity will prevent new developments and system evolutions. Today the trend is reversing and the managing costs are overtaking the hardware and software costs. Moreover, the manual administration of large systems (distributed applications, sensor networks, and network equipment) is not only slow but error-prone. An emerging research field called autonomic computing tries to bring up self-managed systems. We introduce an approach that enable the description of high level autonomic management policies. These policies allow the system to ensure four fundamental properties for self-management: self-healing, self-self-configuring, self-protecting and self-optimizing. We specify autonomic management Policy Description Diagrams (PDD) and implement them in Toulouse University Network (TUNe). We validated our approach on many systems: electromagnetic simulations distributed on computer grids (grid’5000), wireless sensor networks with SunSPOTs and the computing scheduler DIET. A second part of this thesis presents a mathematical modeling for self-optimizing datacenters. We introduce a minimization problem with a criterion integrating both the electrical consumption of the datacenter networking equipment and the quality of service of the deployed applications. A heuristic takes into account the routing functions used on the network.

NoC Design & Optimization of Multicore Media Processors

Network on Chips[1][2][3][4] are critical elements of modern System on Chip(SoC) as well as Chip Multiprocessor(CMP)designs. Network on Chips (NoCs) help manage high complexity of designing large chips by decoupling computation from communication. SoCs and CMPs have a multiplicity of communicating entities like programmable processing elements, hardware acceleration engines, memory blocks as well as off-chip interfaces. With power having become a serious design constraint[5], there is a great need for designing NoC which meets the target communication requirements, while minimizing power using all the tricks available at the architecture, microarchitecture and circuit levels of the de-sign. This thesis presents a holistic, QoS based, power optimal design solution of a NoC inside a CMP taking into account link microarchitecture and processor tile configurations. Guaranteeing QoS by NoCs involves guaranteeing bandwidth and throughput for connections and deterministic latencies in communication paths. Label Switching based Network-on-Chip(LS-NoC) uses a centralized LS-NoC Management framework that engineers traffic into QoS guaranteed routes. LS-NoC uses label switching, enables band-width reservation, allows physical link sharing and leverages advantages of both packet and circuit switching techniques. A flow identification algorithm takes into account band-width available in individual links to establish QoS guaranteed routes. LS-NoC caters to the requirements of streaming applications where communication channels are fixed over the lifetime of the application. The proposed NoC framework inherently supports heterogeneous and ad-hoc SoC designs. A multicast, broadcast capable label switched router for the LS-NoC has been de-signed, verified, synthesized, placed and routed and timing analyzed. A 5 port, 256 bit data bus, 4 bit label router occupies 0.431 mm2 in 130nm and delivers peak band-width of80Gbits/s per link at312.5MHz. LS Router is estimated to consume 43.08 mW. Bandwidth and latency guarantees of LS-NoC have been demonstrated on streaming applications like Hiper LAN/2 and Object Recognition Processor, Constant Bit Rate traffic patterns and video decoder traffic representing Variable Bit Rate traffic. LS-NoC was found to have a competitive figure of merit with state-of-the-art NoCs providing QoS. We envision the use of LS-NoC in general purpose CMPs where applications demand deterministic latencies and hard bandwidth requirements. Design variables for interconnect exploration include wire width, wire spacing, repeater size and spacing, degree of pipelining, supply, threshold voltage, activity and coupling factors. An optimal link configuration in terms of number of pipeline stages for a given length of link and desired operating frequency is arrived at. Optimal configurations of all links in the NoC are identified and a power-performance optimal NoC is presented. We presents a latency, power and performance trade-off study of NoCs using link microarchitecture exploration. The design and implementation of a framework for such a design space exploration study is also presented. We present the trade-off study on NoCs by varying microarchitectural(e.g. pipelining) and circuit level(e.g. frequency and voltage) parameters. A System-C based NoC exploration framework is used to explore impacts of various architectural and microarchitectural level parameters of NoC elements on power and performance of the NoC. The framework enables the designer to choose from a variety of architectural options like topology, routing policy, etc., as well as allows experimentation with various microarchitectural options for the individual links like length, wire width, pitch, pipelining, supply voltage and frequency. The framework also supports a flexible traffic generation and communication model. Latency, power and throughput results using this framework to study a 4x4 CMP are presented. The framework is used to study NoC designs of a CMP using different classes of parallel computing benchmarks[6]. One of the key findings is that the average latency of a link can be reduced by increasing pipeline depth to a certain extent, as it enables link operation at higher link frequencies. Abstract There exists an optimum degree of pipelining which minimizes the energy-delay product of the link. In a 2D Torus when the longest link is pipelined by 4 stages at which point least latency(1.56 times minimum) is achieved and power(40% of max) and throughput (64%of max) are nominal. Using frequency scaling experiments, power variations of up to40%,26.6% and24% can be seen in 2D Torus, Reduced 2D Torus and Tree based NoC between various pipeline configurations to achieve same frequency at constant voltages. Also in some cases, we find that switching to a higher pipelining configuration can actually help reduce power as the links can be designed with smaller repeaters. We also find that the overall performance of the ICNs is determined by the lengths of the links needed to support the communication patterns. Thus the mesh seems to perform the best amongst the three topologies(Mesh, Torus and Folded Torus) considered in case studies. The effects of communication overheads on performance, power and energy of a multiprocessor chip using L1,L2 cache sizes as primary exploration parameters using accurate interconnect, processor, on-chip and off-chip memory modelling are presented. On-chip and off-chip communication times have significant impact on execution time and the energy efficiency of CMPs. Large cache simply larger tile area that result in longer inter-tile communication link lengths and latencies, thus adversely impacting communication time. Smaller caches potentially have higher number of misses and frequent of off-tile communication. Energy efficient tile design is a configuration exploration and trade-off study using different cache sizes and tile areas to identify a power-performance optimal configuration for the CMP. Trade-offs are explored using a detailed, cycle accurate, multicore simulation frame-work which includes superscalar processor cores, cache coherent memory hierarchies, on-chip point-to-point communication networks and detailed interconnect model including pipelining and latency. Sapphire, a detailed multiprocessor execution environment integrating SESC, Ruby and DRAM Sim was used to run applications from the Splash2 benchmark(64KpointFFT).Link latencies are estimated for a16 core CMP simulation on Sapphire. Each tile has a single processor, L1 and L2 caches and a router. Different sizesofL1 andL2lead to different tile clock speeds, tile miss rates and tile area and hence interconnect latency. Simulations across various L1, L2 sizes indicate that the tile configuration that maximizes energy efficiency is related to minimizing communication time. Experiments also indicate different optimal tile configurations for performance, energy and energy efficiency. Clustered interconnection network, communication aware cache bank mapping and thread mapping to physical cores are also explored as potential energy saving solutions. Results indicate that ignoring link latencies can lead to large errors in estimates of program completion times, of up to 17%. Performance optimal configurations are achieved at lower L1 caches and at moderateL2 cache sizes due to higher operating frequencies and smaller link lengths and comparatively lesser communication. Using minimal L1 cache size to operate at the highest frequency may not always be the performance-power optimal choice. Larger L1 sizes, despite a drop in frequency, offer a energy advantage due to lesser communication due to misses. Clustered tile placement experiments for FFT show considerable performance per watt improvement (1.2%). Remapping most accessed L2 banks by a process in the same core or neighbouring cores after communication traffic analysis offers power and performance advantages. Remapped processes and banks in clustered tile placement show a performance per watt improvement of5.25% and energy reductionof2.53%. This suggests that processors could execute a program in multiple modes, for example, minimum energy, maximum performance.

Tant au niveau de la littérature que des pratiques, ce n’est que récemment que la GRH considère la composante émotionnelle au travail (Allouche, 2012). Pourtant, le courant des Relations Humaines, et diverses disciplines distinctes de la GRH, ont intégré cette dimension depuis les années 1930. À partir des travaux de Weiss et Cropanzano (1996) en comportements organisationnels, de Salovey et Mayer (1990 et 1997) et de Gross (Gross 1998 et 2014 ; Gross & John, 2003) en psychologie, d’Hochschild (1998, 2003a et 2003b) et de Goffman (1959, 1969 et 1973) en sociologie, de recherches en GRH et sociologie du travail à propos du soutien social et des régulations sociales (Reynaud, 1988, 1997 et 2003 ; Ruiller, 2010), notre thèse exploite et combine une diversité de cadres théoriques, afin d’explorer les fonctions et les régulations des émotions au travail dans quatre métiers sujets à incidents émotionnels : policiers, urgentistes, enseignants en REP+ et téléconseillers en centre d’appels. À travers une étude de cas multiple au sein de ces secteurs, nous avons triangulé les données issues d’ethnographies, de 107 entretiens, et de documentations, afin d’analyser les cas de ces professionnels en primo contact avec un public, dans une optique comparative. D’une part, nous faisons émerger un modèle d’application managériale revisitant l’analyse des facteurs de RPS, et des préconisations managériales opérationnelles, ces apports intéressant la préservation de la santé de l’individu, et la qualité de service. D’autre part, nous introduisons un modèle théorique général de structuration du processus émotionnel au travail, intégrant le concept de « régulation émotionnelle collective ». Cet apport principal de la thèse, à la GRH, envisage les émotions à la fois comme des objets, des outils et des effets du travail, retentissant sur la santé de l’individu et sur la qualité du service. / At a theoretical as well as practical level, it is only recently that the emotional component of work has been taken into account by the HRM (Allouche, 2012). However, since the 1930s, the Human Relations movement and various disciplines distinct from HRM, have included this dimension. In order to examine the emotional functions and regulations of work through four different lines of work most prone to emotional incidents, such as police officers, emergency room staff, teachers in priority education zone, and call center operators, this PhD dissertation exploits and combines various theoretical frameworks. The latter are based on the research conducted by Weiss and Cropanzano (1996) in organizational behaviors, by Salovey and Mayer (1990, 1997) and Gross (Gross, 1998, 2014 ; Gross & John 2003) in psychology, by Hochschild (1998, 2003a, 2003b) and Goffman (1959, 1969, 1973) in sociology, and on studies about social support and social regulations in HRM and sociology of work (Reynaud, 1988, 1997, 2003 ; Ruiller, 2010).To analyze the cases of these professions that involve direct contact with the public from a comparative perspective, we have triangulated data from ethnographies, 107 interviews, and documentation, through a multiple case study within these sectors. On the one hand, we offer a managerial application model revisiting the analysis of the psychosocial factors, as well as operational managerial recommendations, as they help preserve both the professional’s health, and quality of service. On the other hand, we introduce a general theoretical model structuring the emotional process at work, that integrates the concept of "collective emotional regulation". This main contribution of the PhD dissertation to HRM, is that it views emotions as objects, tools and effects of work, which impact the individual’s health and the quality of service.
