Many of these groups, especially those that exhibit great diversity, like Perciformes and Siluriformes, possess species with difficult morphologic characterization, called cryptic species, commonly detected through karyotypic analyses, which reveals outstanding interespecific variations with relationship to the number and its chromosomal structures. Thus, the present work intends to contribute for the cytogenetic knowledge of marine and brackish fish species, because they peculiar life habits and by lack of cytogenetic data of your genetic aspects. Therefore, cytogenetic studies were developed in a species of Apogonidae (Perciformes), two species of sea catfishes of the family Ariidae (Siluriformes) and brackish fish Paurachenipterus galeatus (Siluriformes, Auchenipteridae), through C banding, Ag-NOR, use of base-specific flourochromes (DAPI and CMA3), as well as FISH (Fluorescent in situ hybridization) using ribosomal DNA probes 5S and 18S. The present results contribute to a better understanding of the processes of differentiation patterns and chromosome evolution in these groups. The use of other approaches (the morphology and molecular tools) will allow a larger understanding of the genetic and biological diversity of the Brazilian ichthyofauna. / Study of thermodynamics properties of Ashkin-Teller in random magnetic field

Luiz Antonio Bastos Bernardes 27 October 1995 (has links)
The meanfield theory of the long range Ashkin-Teller model in random fields was developed. This was obtained by using the replica trick and the study of the coupled integral equations for the order parameters, the stability of their solutions, and their expansions for T &#8804 Tc. Inicially, the expressions of the thermodynamic functions for the model in three random fields with Gaussian distributiuons were determined. After this, it was examined the particular case of the model with only one random field in the Z = &#8249 &#948 S &#8250 direction. The strategy revealed itself powerful by the detailed characterization of the phase diagram with several coexistence surfaces and lines of critical points. The integral equations of the thermodynamic functions for this particular case were discussed and numerically solved for special values of the interaction constants and field distribution variance. For the particular case of the model with random fields in the &#8249 S &#8250 and &#8249 &#948 &#8250, directions, the expressions were also determined and discussed. The equations of the instability surfaces for the paramagnetic solution were obtained, and it was proved that the para-Baxter transition line is always of first order. Another original result of the thesis was the verification of the the existence of the dilatation and contration symmetry in the Potts model with random fields. This symmetry permits that the study of the free energy in the q&#8712(1,2) interval supplies the thermodynamics behavior of the system for q>2.

Simulation d'un supercondensateur à l'échelle atomique

Delfour, Laure 20 June 2011 (has links)
Electric double-layer capacitors, also known as supercapacitors, are electrochemical capacitors that have an unusually high energy density compared to that of usual high-capacity electrolytic ones. Being generally admitted that storage density is improved through the use of a nanoporous materials, a good way to optimize supercapacitors, which require carbon materials, is to synthesise carbon replica with predetermined porosity from microporous materials such as zeolites. Modeling such supercapacitors at the atomic scale should help with the choice of its components. Our model system has both electrodes in zeolite carbon replica C-FAU, and has hard charged spheres as its electrolyte. Tight-binding calculations of the electronic structure of the carbon template give the charge distribution in the electrodes, while the absorption of the ions into the pores is studied through Monte Carlo simulations, in which the interactions between the ions are treated using Ewald summations for coulombic interactions and a Lennard-Jones short-range potential for chemical interactions. Relaxation of the electrodes under the influence of the electrolyte has been tested as well. This shows how charge and matter locate themselves at the electrode/electrolyte interface.

Adaptivitätssensitive Platzierung von Replikaten in Adaptiven Content Distribution Networks

Buchholz, Sven 08 July 2005 (has links)
Adaptive Content Distribution Networks (A-CDNs) are application independent, distributed infrastructures using content adaptation and distributed replication of contents to allow the scalable delivery of adaptable multimedia contents to heterogeneous clients. The replica placement in an A-CDN is controlled by the placement mechanisms of the A-CDN. As opposed to traditional CDNs, which do not take content adaptation into consideration, a replica placement mechanism in an A-CDN has to decide not only which object shall be stored in which surrogate but also which representation or which representations of the object to replicate. Traditional replica placement mechanisms are incapable of taking different representations of the same object into consideration. That is why A-CDNs that use traditional replica placement mechanisms may only replicate generic or statically adapted representations. The replication of statically adapted representations reduces the sharing of the replicas. The replication of generic representations results in adaptation costs and delays with every request. That is why the dissertation thesis proposes the application of adaptation-aware replica placement mechanisms. By taking the adaptability of the contents into account, adaptation-aware replica placement mechanisms may replicate generic, statically adapted and even partially adapted representations of an object. Thus, they are able to balance between static and dynamic content adaptation. The dissertation is targeted at the evaluation of the performance advantages of taking knowledge about the adaptability of contents into consideration when calculating a placement of replicas in an A-CDN. Therefore the problem of adaptation-aware replica placement is formalized as an optimization problem; algorithms for solving the optimization problem are proposed and implemented in a simulator. The underlying simulation model describes an Internet-wide distributed A-CDN that is used for the delivery of JPEG images to heterogeneous mobile and stationary clients. Based on the simulation model, the performance of the adaptation-aware replica placement mechanisms are evaluated and compared to traditional replica placement mechanisms. The simulations prove that the adaptation-aware approach is superior to the traditional replica placement mechanisms in many cases depending on the system and load model as well as the storage capacity of the surrogates of the A-CDN. However, if the load of different types of clients do hardly overlap or with sufficient storage capacity within the surrogates, the adaptation-aware approach has no significant advantages over the application of traditional replica-placement mechanisms.

Dynamique quantique hors-équilibre et systèmes désordonnés pour des atomes ultrafroids bosoniques / Out of equilibrium quantum dynamics and disordered systems in bosonic ultracold atoms

Sciolla, Bruno 13 September 2012 (has links)
The fast progress of cold atoms experiments in the last decade has allowed to explore new aspects of strongly correlated systems. This thesis deals with two such general themes: the out of equilibrium dynamics of closed quantum systems, and the impact of disorder on strongly correlated bosons at zero temperature. Among the different questions about out of equilibrium dynamics, the phenomenon of dynamical transition is still lacking a complete understanding. The transition is typically signalled, in mean-field, by a singular behaviour of observables as a function of the parameters of the quench. In this thesis, a mean field method is developed to give evidence of a strong link between the quantum phase transition at zero temperature and the dynamical transition. We then study using field theory techniques a relativistic O($N$) model, and show that the dynamical transition bears similarities with a critical phenomenon. In this context, the dynamical transition also appears to be formally related to the dynamics of symmetry breaking. The second part of this thesis is about the disordered Bose-Hubbard model and the nature of its phase transitions. We use and extend the cavity mean field method, introduced by Ioffe and Mezard to obtain analytical results from the quantum cavity method and the replica trick. We find that the conventional transition, with power law scaling, is changed into an activated scaling in some regions of the phase diagram. Furthermore, the critical exponents are continuously varying along the conventional transition. These intriguing properties call for further investigations using different methods.

Energy-aware scheduling : complexity and algorithms

Renaud-Goud, Paul 05 July 2012 (has links) (PDF)
In this thesis we have tackled a few scheduling problems under energy constraint, since the energy issue is becoming crucial, for both economical and environmental reasons. In the first chapter, we exhibit tight bounds on the energy metric of a classical algorithm that minimizes the makespan of independent tasks. In the second chapter, we schedule several independent but concurrent pipelined applications and address problems combining multiple criteria, which are period, latency and energy. We perform an exhaustive complexity study and describe the performance of new heuristics. In the third chapter, we study the replica placement problem in a tree network. We try to minimize the energy consumption in a dynamic frame. After a complexity study, we confirm the quality of our heuristics through a complete set of simulations. In the fourth chapter, we come back to streaming applications, but in the form of series-parallel graphs, and try to map them onto a chip multiprocessor. The design of a polynomial algorithm on a simple problem allows us to derive heuristics on the most general problem, whose NP-completeness has been proven. In the fifth chapter, we study energy bounds of different routing policies in chip multiprocessors, compared to the classical XY routing, and develop new routing heuristics. In the last chapter, we compare the performance of different algorithms of the literature that tackle the problem of mapping DAG applications to minimize the energy consumption.

Energy-Efficient Key/Value Store

Tena, Frezewd Lemma 11 September 2017 (has links) (PDF)
Energy conservation is a major concern in todays data centers, which are the 21st century data processing factories, and where large and complex software systems such as distributed data management stores run and serve billions of users. The two main drivers of this major concern are the pollution impact data centers have on the environment due to their waste heat, and the expensive cost data centers incur due to their enormous energy demand. Among the many subsystems of data centers, the storage system is one of the main sources of energy consumption. Among the many types of storage systems, key/value stores happen to be the widely used in the data centers. In this work, I investigate energy saving techniques that enable a consistent hash based key/value store save energy during low activity times, and whenever there is an opportunity to reuse the waste heat of data centers.
