Probability and Heat Kernel Estimates for Lévy(-Type) Processes

Kühn, Franziska 25 November 2016 (has links)
In this thesis, we present a new existence result for Lévy-type processes. Lévy-type processes behave locally like a Lévy process, but the Lévy triplet may depend on the current position of the process. They can be characterized by their so-called symbol; this is the analogue of the characteristic exponent in the Lévy case. Using a parametrix construction, we prove the existence of Lévy-type processes with a given symbol under weak regularity assumptions on the regularity of the symbol. Applications range from existence results for stable-like processes and mixed processes to uniqueness results for Lévy-driven stochastic differential equations. Moreover, we discuss sufficient conditions for the existence of moments of Lévy-type processes and derive estimates for fractional moments.

Contributions au calcul des variations et au principe du maximum de Pontryagin en calculs time scale et fractionnaire / Contributions to calculus of variations and to Pontryagin maximum principle in time scale calculus and fractional calculus

Bourdin, Loïc 18 June 2013 (has links)
This dissertation deals with the mathematical fields called calculus of variations and optimal control theory. More precisely, we develop some aspects of these two domains in discrete, more generally time scale, and fractional frameworks. Indeed, these two settings have recently experience a significant development due to its applications in computing for the first one and to its emergence in physical contexts of anomalous diffusion for the second one. In both frameworks, our goals are: a) to develop a calculus of variations and extend some classical results (see below); b) to state a Pontryagin maximum principle (denoted in short PMP) for optimal control problems. Towards these purposes, we generalize several classical variational methods, including the Ekeland’s variational principle (combined with needle-like variations) as well as variational invariances via the action of groups of transformations. Furthermore, the investigations for PMPs lead us to use fixed point theorems and to consider the Lagrange multiplier technique and a method based on a conic implicit function theorem. This manuscript is made up of two parts : Part A deals with variational problems on time scale and Part B is devoted to their fractional analogues. In each of these parts, we follow (with minor differences) the following organization: 1. obtaining of an Euler-Lagrange equation characterizing the critical points of a Lagrangian functional; 2. statement of a Noether-type theorem ensuring the existence of a constant of motion for Euler-Lagrange equations admitting a symmetry;3. statement of a Tonelli-type theorem ensuring the existence of a minimizer for a Lagrangian functional and, consequently, of a solution for the corresponding Euler-Lagrange equation (only in Part B); 4. statement of a PMP (strong version in Part A and weak version in Part B) giving a necessary condition for the solutions of general nonlinear optimal control problems; 5. obtaining of a Helmholtz condition characterizing the equations deriving from a calculus of variations (only in Part A and only in the purely continuous and purely discrete cases). Some Picard-Lindelöf type theorems necessary for the analysis of optimal control problems are obtained in Appendices.

The application of a technique for enhancing recall to improve learning in the science classroom

Parsons, Darryl C January 2007 (has links)
There has existed for many years a memory enhancement technique ("memory pegs") that although having dramatic demonstrable success in some individual cases has not been generally applied in education. The emergence of constructivist epistemology has emphasised the notion that learning occurs as a result of connecting new material with previously learnt concepts. There is, therefore, the implication that effective learning requires some previous knowledge upon which to attach new concepts - and thus realisation of the importance of learning with respect to acquiring factual information as a prerequisite to learning new processes and/or skills. This issue has focussed my attention on the need to ensure that the more physiological skills of accessing 'memory', both for learning and recall, are optimised for maximum learning. Further, there are some indications that the physiological skills of memory access (storage and retrieval) may respond favourably to training and 'exercise'. This study was designed to find out whether or not a repeated 'exercise' using a simple memory enhancement technique would lead to a determinable and statistically significant increase in overall performance in a range of cognitive skills (as indicated by science and mathematics examination results), whether learning such a technique would affect a student's attitudes towards science, whether there was a relationship between the amount of time spent practicing the technique and the degree of effect, and whether the memory technique did actually improve the ability to recall lists of objects.

In Brazil, public companies have been concerned in the search for better management contrai mechanisms to achieve good results in the delivery of public services for customers and users. The term 'Organizational Performance Management' refers to any integrated and systematic approach to improving performance to achieve strategic aims and pro mote the mission and values ofthe organization. Thus, this research studies practices related to the organizational performance management, enabling the targeting of efforts on improving key processes, taking into account the specific characteristics o f the public nature. Another relevant aspect o f this work comes from studies by Management Objectives and Managing for Results, adopting understanding Manage by Objectives to achieve the results. Thus, a literature search was performed to identify the main frameworks of organizational performance. After this stage, it was established a criticai analysis of frameworks by watching the main contributions and strengths. Finally, it was built an assessment model in arder to make a diagnosis of managerial processes and qualify at what stage the company, which is the object of this study, is focusing on the governance for results. The assessment result reflected the perceptions of employees and managers on performance and its determinants.

Transformace výsledku hospodaření na základ daně z příjmů v různých formách obchodních společností / Trading Income Transform to The Income Tax Base into Variety of Companies

SVÁČKOVÁ, Veronika January 2009 (has links)
The main and fundamental goal of this work is the taxation of the various types of the companies. Of course, the height of taxation is one of the general questions. A lot of people are also interested in the way of guarantee. In the Czech law there are these types of companies: limited company, join stock company, special limited partnership and co partnership. In every company the economic result is to tax another system. The economic result is the difference between revenues and costs. But it cannot be considered a tax base. The economic result is increased by non-taxable costs. And this is called the tax base. In the Czech law there are two types of taxation. The first one is the legal entity income tax and its rate is 21 % and the other one is the natural person income and its rate is 15 % for both (in 2008).
