Análise da furação do aço inoxidável AISI 304 com a aplicação externa de nanofluidos em quantidade reduzida

A furação é um processo caracterizado por apresentar dificuldades em relação à formação e remoção do cavaco da região de corte, e à geração de altas temperaturas devido ao cisalhamento e encruamento do material no fundo do furo, principalmente, na usinagem do aço inoxidável austenítico. Com isso a presença do fluido de corte com boas propriedades de refrigeração e lubrificação faz-se necessária para preservar a vida da broca e garantir um acabamento satisfatório do furo. Contudo, com a tendência mundial de diminuição da quantidade de fluido de corte dispendido, tem-se buscado técnicas diferentes de aplicação que utilize o lubrirrefrigerante em quantidades reduzidas. Associado a essas novas técnicas, vem sendo empregado cada vez mais o uso de partículas sólidas adicionadas ao fluido com o intuito de aumentar sua eficiência. Um tipo de partícula, que vem sendo aplicada em diversos setores produtivos devido a suas ótimas propriedades mecânicas, químicas e elétricas, é o grafeno. Sendo assim, pretende-se analisar o comportamento da furação do aço inoxidável austenítico AISI 304 utilizando flocos de multicamadas de grafeno dispersos em fluido de corte empregando o projeto de experimentos Box-Behnken A aplicação do fluido é feita externamente utilizando a técnica de quantidade reduzida com três vazões: 1,5 l/h; 2,0 l/h e 2,5 l/h. O comportamento do processo é avaliado pelos esforços de corte (força de avanço e momento torsor), pela rugosidade (média e total), e pelos desvios (dimensional e de circularidade) na entrada e na saída do furo. O desempenho do grafeno é avaliado pela comparação dos resultados da sua utilização com os de outras duas condições de aplicação do fluido de corte sem adições: em quantidade reduzida e em abundância. Teve-se como resultado que todas as variáveis respostas analisadas sofreram alguma influência da velocidade de corte e/ou da vazão do fluido aplicado em quantidades reduzidas. Os benefícios da lubrificação e refrigeração do grafeno são sentidos em alguns resultados, como nos menores valores médios de rugosidade e de desvio dimensional. Mas, na análise do processo como um todo, não se afirma que o fluido de corte com flocos de multicamadas de grafeno aplicado externamente em quantidade reduzida traz mais benefícios que o sem adições. / Drilling is a machining process characterized by difficulties in the formation and removal of the chip from the cutting region and the generation of high temperatures due to shearing and hardening of the material at the bottom of the hole, especially in the machining of austenitic stainless steel. Thus the presence of cutting fluid with good cooling and lubrication properties is necessary to preserve the drill life and ensure a satisfactory hole finish. However, with the worldwide trend of decreasing the amount of cutting fluid expended, different application systems have been sought which use the coolant in reduced amounts. Associated with these new techniques, the presence of solid particles added to the fluid has been increasingly used in order to enhance its efficiency. One of these particles, which have been applied in several productive sectors due to its excellent mechanical, chemical and electrical properties, is graphene. Therefore, it is intended to analyze the drilling behavior of AISI 304 austenitic stainless steel using multilayer graphene flakes dispersed in the cutting fluid using the Box- Behnken Design The application of the fluid is done externally by means of reduced quantity lubricant with three flows: 1.5 l/h, 2.0 l/h and 2.5 l/h. The behavior of the process is evaluated via thrust force and torque, average and total roughness, and dimensional and circularity deviations at the input and output holes. The performance of graphene is evaluated by comparing the results of its use with two other cutting fluid conditions: quantity reduced and abundance. It was found that all the analyzed responses variables had some influence of the cutting speed and/or the flow of the applied fluid in reduced quantities. The benefits of graphene lubrication and cooling are felt in some results, such as the lower values of average roughness and dimensional deviation. However, in the analysis of the process as a whole, it is not possible to state that the multilayer graphene flakes cutting fluid externally applied brings more benefits than without additions.

Padrões alimentares e fatores de risco em indivíduos com doença cardiovascular / Dietary patterns and risk factors in individuals with cardiovascular disease

As doenças cardiovasculares (DCV) representam a principal causa de mortalidade e de incapacidade, em ambos os gêneros, no Brasil e no mundo. O padrão de consumo alimentar está tanto positiva como negativamente associado aos principais fatores de risco para DCV, entre eles diabetes, hipertensão, obesidade e hipertrigliceridemia, todos componentes da síndrome metabólica. Este estudo tem como objetivos identificar os padrões alimentares em indivíduos com DCV, considerando a densidade de energia, a gordura saturada, a fibra, o sódio e o potássio consumidos, e investigar sua associação com fatores de risco de DCV e síndrome metabólica. Trata-se de um estudo transversal. Foram utilizados dados do estudo DICA Br. A amostra foi composta de indivíduos com DCV, com idade superior a 45 anos, de todas as regiões brasileiras. O consumo alimentar foi obtido por recordatório alimentar de 24h e os padrões alimentares obtidos pela regressão por posto reduzido (RPR). Para a RPR, utilizaram-se 28 grupos alimentares como preditores e como variáveis respostas componentes dietéticos. O teste de Mann Whitney foi utilizado para testar as diferenças entre as médias dos escores. Foram obtidos dados de 1.047 participantes; 95% apresentavam doença arterial coronariana; em sua maioria, eram idosos, da classe econômica C1 e C2 e estudaram até o ensino médio. A prevalência de síndrome metabólica foi de 58%. Foram extraídos dois padrões alimentares. O primeiro foi marcado pelo maior consumo de fibra alimentar e potássio, composto por arroz e feijão, frutas e sucos naturais com ou sem açúcar, legumes, carne bovina ou processada, verduras, raízes e tubérculos. O segundo padrão caracterizou-se pelo consumo de gordura saturada e maior densidade energética, representado por panificados salgados, gorduras, carne bovina e processada, doces caseiros, pizza, salgadinhos de pacote ou festa, sanduíche e alimento salgado pronto para consumo. Houve associação significativa entre o padrão alimentar 1 com medida da circunferência da cintura e nível de HDL adequados e com o padrão 2 e HDL adequado. A adoção do padrão alimentar 1 pode estar associada à proteção contra alguns dos componentes da síndrome metabólica. / Cardiovascular diseases (CVD) are the leading cause of mortality and disability in both genders in Brazil and worldwide. The dietary pattern is at the same time positive and negatively associated with the main risk factors for CVD, including diabetes, hypertension, obesity and hypertriglyceridemia, all components of the metabolic syndrome. This study aims to identify dietary patterns in individuals with CVD, considering the energy density, and the amount of saturated fatty acid, fiber, sodium and potassium of the diet, and to investigate its association with CVD risk factors and metabolic syndrome. This is a cross-sectional study, data were used from \"DICA Br\" study. The sample consisted of individuals with CVD, over 45 years old, residents from all Brazilian regions. Food consumption was obtained by one 24-hours diet recall and dietary patterns by reduced rank regression (RRR). In the RRR, 28 food groups were included as predictors and dietary components was chosen as the response variable. The Mann-Whitney test was used to test the differences between the factors scores\' means. Data of 1047 participants were analyzed. 95% have coronary artery disease, most are elderly, economical class most observed are C1 and C2. Also, most of them and studied up to high school. The prevalence of metabolic syndrome was 58%. Two dietary patterns were extracted: the first one is higher in dietary fiber and potassium, which is composed by rice, beans, fruits and natural juices with or without sugar, vegetables, beef or processed meat, roots and tubers. The second pattern is higher in saturated fatty acid and energy density, represented by breads, fats, and processed meat, homemade pastries, pizza, snacks or party package, sandwich and salty food ready for consumption. There was a significant association between dietary pattern 1 and low waist circumference and adequate high density cholesterol blood concentration. There was a significant association between dietary pattern 2 and adequate high density cholesterol blood concentration. We suggest that the adoption of the dietary pattern 1 may be associated with protection against some of the components of metabolic syndrome.

Full-body joint action in pedestrian road crossing virtual environments

The recent leaps in virtual reality (VR) technology have unleashed revolutionary potential for applications in a wide variety of areas, including education, training, psychological-therapy, etc. As part of the effort on understanding how users interact with VR, I focused on studying full-body joint action using a road crossing task which involves perception, decision-making, action, and joint action. I have been heavily involved in the design, implementation, and construction of two large-screen, room-like stereoscopic virtual environment (VE) simulators. Using this system, I developed a three-part research plan with a series of studies to examine how people engage in full-body joint-action with a partner under three scenarios: 1. two people who are physically present in a co-occupied virtual environment; 2. one person who shares a virtual environment with a computer-generated agent (CG agent); 3. two people who share the same virtual environment remotely in physically separate places where each person is motion tracked and presented in the environment as a graphic avatar. The behaviors of participants were recorded and processed through a customized pipeline that captures important performance metrics, such as how participants pick crossable gaps and time their movements. The VE system, user study designs, and findings are introduced in this dissertation.

Mathematical modelling and simulations of the hemodynamics in the eye / Modèles mathématiques et simulations numériques de l'hémodynamique de l'oeil

La structure de l’oeil permet d’observer la microcirculation, grâce aux caméras de fond d’oeil. Ces appareils sont bon marché et couramment utilisés dans la pratique clinique, permettant le dépistage de maladies oculaires. La capacité des vaisseaux à adapter leur diamètre (autorégulation) afin de réguler le débit sanguin est importante dans la microcirculation. L’hémodynamique de l’oeil est impactée par la pression à l’intérieur du globe oculaire (IOP), qui est à son tour influencée par le flux sanguin oculaire. Les altérations de l’autorégulation et l’IOP jouent un rôle dans les maladies oculaires. La modélisation mathématique peut aider à interpréter l’interaction entre ces phénomènes et à mieux exploiter les données médicales disponibles. Dans la première partie, nous présentons un modèle simplifié d’interaction fluidestructure qui inclut l’autorégulation, appliqué à un reseau 3D obtenu par imagerie médicale. Les cellules musculaires lisses regulant le diamètre du vaisseau sont modélisés dans la structure. Ensuite, nous utilisons des équations de poroélasticité pour décrire le flux sanguin dans la choroïde, dans un modèle multi-compartiments de l’oeil. Cette approche permet de rendre compte de la transmission de la pulsatilité de la choroïde à la chambre antérieure, où l’IOP est mesurée. Nous présentons des résultats préliminaires sur la choroïde, l’humeur aqueuse et sur la choroïde couplée avec la vitrée. Enfin, nous présentons un modèle d’ordre réduit pour accélérer des simulations multi-physique. Des modèles de haute précision sont utilisés pour les compartiments d’intérêt et une représentation réduite de l’opérateur de Steklov-Poincaré est utilisée pour les autres compartiments. / The structure of the eye offers a unique opportunity to directly observe the microcirculation, by means, for instance, of fundus camera, which are cheap devices commonly used in the clinical practice. This can facilitate the screening of systemic deseases such as diabetes and hypertension, or eye diseases such as glaucoma. A key phenomenon in the microcirculation is the autoregulation, which is the ability of certain vessels to adapt their diameter to regulate the blood flow rate in response to changes in the systemic pressure or metabolic needs. Impairments in autoregulation are strongly correlated with pathological states. The hemodynamics in the eye is influenced by the intraocular pressure (IOP), the pressure inside the eye globe, which is in turn influenced by the ocular blood flow. The interest in the IOP stems from the fact that it plays a role in several eye-diseases, such as glaucoma. Mathematical modelling can help in interpreting the interplay between these phenomena and better exploit the available data. In the first part of the thesis we present a simplified fluid-structure interaction model that includes autoregulation. A layer of fibers in the vessel wall models the smooth muscle cells that regulate the diameter of the vessel. The model is applied to a 3D image-based network of retinal arterioles. In the second part, we propose a multi-compartments model of the eye. We use the equations of poroelasticity to model the blood flow in the choroid. The model includes other compartments that transmit the pulsatility from the choroid to the anterior chamber, where the measurements of the IOP are actually performed. We present some preliminary results on the choroid, the aqueous humor and on the choroid coupled with the vitreous. Finally, we present a reduced order modelling technique to speed up multiphysics simulations. We use high fidelity models for the compartments of particular interest from the modelling point of view. The other compartments are instead replaced by a reduced representation of the corresponding Steklov-Poincaré operator.

Mathematical liver modeling : hemodynamics and function in hepatectomy / Modèles mathématiques de l'hémodynamique et de la fonction du foie lors d'une hépatectomie

L’ablation partielle du foie est une chirurgie qui intervient dans le traitement des lésions du foie et lors d’une transplantation partielle de foie. Les relations entre l’hémodynamique du foie, son volume et ses fonctions restent à élucider pour mieux comprendre les causes des complications de ces chirurgies. Lors de la chirurgie, l’hémodynamique du foie est altérée suite à l’augmentation de la résistance au flux sanguin de l’organe. La régénération du foie semble dépendante des changements de débit et de pression dans la veine porte. D’autre part, comme le foie reçoit 25% du débit cardiaque, la chirurgie impacte la circulation sanguine globale.
 Dans ce contexte, le premier objectif est de mieux comprendre, grâce à des modèles mathématiques, l’influence de l’hépatectomie sur l’hémodynamique. Le second objectif est l’analyse de la perfusion et de la fonction du foie. Premièrement, la procédure chirurgicale, les conditions expérimentales ainsi que les mesures obtenues sont détaillées.
 Ensuite, les valeurs moyennes mesurées lors de douze chirurgies sont reproduites par un modèle de circulation entière, basé sur des équations différentielles ordinaires. Lors des différentes hépatectomies, des changements de forme de courbe sont observés. Un modèle de circulation entière, basée sur des équations 1D et 0D est proposé pour analyser ces changements. Ce travail pourrait permettre une meilleure compréhension des changements d’architecture du foie induits par l’hépatectomie.
 Puis, le transport dans le sang d’un composé ainsi que son traitement par le foie sont modélisés. Un modèle pharmacocinétique est développé et grâce aux mesures, les paramètres du modèle sont estimés. / Major liver resection is being performed to treat liver lesions or for adult-to-adult living donor liver transplantation. Complications of these surgeries are related to a poor liver function. The links between liver hemodynamics, liver volume and liver function remain unclear and are important to better understand these complications. The surgery increases the resistance to blood flow in the organ, therefore it modifies liver hemodynamics. Large modifications of the portal vein hemodynamics have been associated with poor liver regeneration. Moreover the liver receives 25% of the cardiac outflow, therefore liver surgery may impact the whole blood circulation. In this context, the first goal is to investigate with mathematical models the impact of liver surgery on liver hemodynamics. The second goal is to study the liver perfusion and function with mathematical models. The first part describes the experimental conditions and reports the measurements recorded. Then, the second part focuses on the liver hemodynamics during partial hepatectomy. On one hand, the hemodynamics during several surgeries is quantitatively reproduced and explained by a closed-loop model based on ODE. On the other hand, the change of waveforms observed after different levels of liver resection is reproduced with a model of the global circulation, including 0D and 1D equations. This may contribute to a better understanding of the change of liver architecture induced by hepatectomy. Next, the transport in blood of a compound is studied. And a pharmacokinetics model and its parameter identification are developed to quantitatively analyze indocyanine green fluorescence dynamics in the liver tissue.

Comparison of fast frequency reserve strategies for Nordic grid frequency stability

How long would modern society cope with a power outage, what would happen to vital systems that we today take for granted in modern society. The Nordic electricity grid is facing a major shift where electricity production from non-renewable sources are to be replaced increasingly by renewable sources. By increasing the penetration of wind and solar power the electric power system might be exposed to disturbances due to decreasing inertia as a result of the electricity transition. Currently the electric power system has different reserves to use to maintain frequency stability but there are other reserves that could help further in the fight for the balance between electricity production and consumption. This project examines whether the new reserve service, fast frequency reserve (FFR), can help the existing frequency containment reserve for disturbed (FCR-D) operation. Therefore, two experiments were conducted using the simulation tool ARISTO, addressing relevant issues involving frequency stability. Motivation for the hypothesis was to investigate if FFR could reduce the frequency transients and improve frequency variations by developing various setups and cases when inertia was retained and when the system inertia was reduced at different stages. The results of the experiments showed that the global minimum frequency, nadir, had increased for all test cases compared to the reference case when using FFR, this proved that the FFR in fact help reducing frequency transients. The results showed furthermore that when the FFR had a duration time of 30 seconds compared to only 5 seconds, the frequency variations could be improved for certain setups for experiment 2.

Enhanced finite-element and reduced-order modelling of permanent-magnet synchronous machines

The number of electrical machines used in modern road-vehicles is continuously increasing to meet regulatory requirements regarding safety and efficiency, as well as consumer expectations in terms of comfort. For auxiliary applications, such as cooling fan or pumps, permanent-magnet synchronous machines (PMSMs) are extensively used owing to their high power density. This thesis focuses on the modelling aspects of PMSMs, with a particular focus on finite-element and reduced-order models to be used in system-level simulations. 2-D and 3-D parametric finite-element (FE) models are developed, allowing to compute irreversible demagnetization in addition to the standard quantities such as torque, back electromotive force and flux-linkages. The effects of magnet overhang on the performance of an interior PMSM is briefly discussed. Using the FE model, a reduced-order lookup-table (LUT) based electromagnetic model, having similar accuracy as FE analysis, is then developed. Coupled to a mechanical state-space representation obtained from a modal FE analysis, the final model allows to compute electromagnetic induced vibrations under pulse width modulation supply. The validation of the complete workflow is carried out on a 12slot-10pole PMSM used to drive a cooling fan. After fitting the damping coefficient in the structural state-space model, the results are in agreement with the experimental results. Due to the usage of LUTs, the simulation time is low compared to a pure FE analysis. This allows the model to be used to optimize low noise control strategies. Vapor Compression Refrigeration in Microgravity

<div>As space exploration continues to accelerate, various cooling applications follow suit. Refrigeration and freezing of biological samples, astronaut food as well as electronics cooling and air-conditioning are necessary and demand increased capacity. In the past, these demands have been met by thermoelectric cooling or cryogenic cycles, which are easily adapted to a microgravity environment but have a relatively low efficiency in the refrigeration and freezing temperature range. A number of studies have investigated the development of higher efficiency vapor compression cycles for spacecraft, which would have the benefit of a smaller mass penalty due to the reduced power consumption. Despite notable research efforts during the 1990s, the number of vapor compression coolers that have operated in microgravity until today is small and their performance was insufficient to provide confidence into the technology for microgravity applications. Related experimental research has decreased since the 2000s.<br></div><div><br></div><div>For this dissertation, all vapor compression cycles (VCC) that have operated in microgravity according to the open literature were reviewed with their applications, compressor types and reported issues. Suggested design tools were summarized with a focus on gravity independence criteria for two-phase flow. For the most effective increase of the technology readiness level, simple but systematic experiments regarding the stability of VCCs against orientation and gravity changes were prioritized in this dissertation. An important goal of the research was the continuous operation and start-up of vapor compression cycles on parabolic flights, experiments that have not been reported in the open literature. Two separate test stands were built and flown on four parabolic flights, totaling 122 parabolas for each experiment.<br></div><div><br></div><div>The parabolic flight experiments were prepared with extensive ground-based testing. Multiple anomalies were encountered during the pursuit of continuous vapor compression cycle operation through a rotation of 360 degrees, including liquid flooding of the compressor. Systematic inclination testing was conducted with two different cycle configurations and a wide range of operating conditions. A strong correlation was found between the relative stability of the heat source heat transfer rate and the refrigerant mass flux for an inclination procedure with angle changes once every 2 minutes.<br></div><div><br></div><div>The parabolic flights exposed the test stand to quickly alternating hyper and microgravity. The evaporation temperature reacted to the different gravity levels with fluctuations that stretched on average 2.2 K from the maximum to minimum temperature measured during one set of parabolas. Changes of the evaporator inlet flow regime as a function of gravity were observed visually and the low-side pressure and mass flow rate sometimes oscillated in microgravity. The cycle responses induced by ground-based inclination testing were typically stronger than changes caused by the parabolic flight maneuvers for relatively low mass flow rates. Overall, the parabolic flight maneuvers were not detrimental to the cycle operation. <br></div><div><br></div><div>The second test stand was dedicated to liquid flooding observations at cycle start-up. Different flow regimes were observed in microgravity during testing with a transparent evaporator but the absence of gravity did not significantly alter the general time-based flooding quantifiers.<br></div><div><br></div><div>Design recommendations are drawn from the research where possible and summarized at the end of the dissertation. Návrh elektronického subsystému pro simulátor dopadu ve snížené gravitaci / Design of electronic subsystem for reduced gravity impact simulator

The focus of this thesis is development of an electronic subsystem for reduced gravity impact simulator. The research part of this thesis firstly covers methods used for simulation of microgravity or reduced gravity and compares them. Another part of research focuses on three selected potential approaches to creating the electronic subsystem for this device. The second, practical, part of this thesis describes the design and development of the electronic subsystem. The foundation of the electronic subsystem is a control unit which has been developed on the basis of an STMicroelectronics microcontroller. Using the control unit, the electronic subsystem measures pressure, position, acceleration and force in the system. Another task of the control unit is control of a stepper motor. Integration of individual elements into the electronic subsystem is described both in terms of software and hardware. Furthermore, a graphic user interface program for PC has been developed as a means to interact with the system. In the final part of the thesis, the operation of the electronic subsystem is described and lastly, the electronic subsystem is evaluated.
