No. of bitstreams: 1 Marco Andre Oliveira Sales.pdf: 387349 bytes, checksum: f601c6719bdad615d21b23334f13805a (MD5) Previous issue date: 2009-12-17 / Excluding the confessional-theological systematic approach and literary-cricticism speech analysis, this paper proposes a dialogue link between theology and literature, in the field of the sciences of religion, through a hermeneutic analysis with an anthropologic approach, trying to understand the beliefs and behavior of Brazil‟s Northeast religiosity inside the roman-catholic Christian tradition, and elects the cordel poems written between 1860 and 1920 as a path of this interface some of them literally transcripted in the commemorative work 100 Cordeis Historicos segundo a Academia Brasileira de Literatura de Cordel, Gonçalo Ferreira da Silva (org.), Mossoró: Queima-Bucha, 2008. Based upon Michel de Certeau‟s theory (1925-1986) quotidian logic and formality in the ways of telling which realizes and searchs the survival tactics adopted by the ordinary man inside the tales and popular legends, this work considers two main points: first, cordel literature is the file, the record and the translator of a popular way of telling the ordinary man‟s beliefs and experiences in the Brazilian Northeast and, second, those beliefs and experiences may be analyzed and described as religiousness pictures in a larger social and cultural environment, beyond the borders of a religious faith or tradition. Thereafter the purpose is to enrich the records of existing works about the Brazilian religousness subject the understanding related to the beliefs and experiences of the ordinary man, whether in town or in the wilderness.

Religiositetens och kulturens betydelse i etiskt politiskt ledarskap - exemplet Donald Trump

Kourieh-Nielsen, Gitte January 2017 (has links)
A politician’s ability to practice political leadership has always played a major role, but today’s political leadership is widely exposed and depended on the public’s voice and reactions to such an extend with mass media both as tool and mediator as never seen before. Consideration to the ethical dimension in political leadership and taking a stand for own values has therefore become more than ever important for a political leader not just to be aware of men also to use in public. A part of this awareness has to do with religious and cultural values. How important is these two issues and which role do they play in practicing political leadership? By combining the qualitative method of describing and investigating President Donald Trump's religious and cultural background as a specific example and then using the quantitative method in the form of a relevant minor questionnaire, I state that my hypothesis "certainly plays religious and cultural background a certain role in political ethical leadership" applies, and is more important than one might imagine

La place de la spiritualité dans la prise en charge des maladies mentales et des addictions / Spirituality in the treatment of mental diseases and addictions

Mandhouj, Olfa 23 January 2015 (has links)
The association between spirituality and health is an emerging area of research, relatively little explored in Europe. Spirituality and religiousness are associated with lower rates of physical, mental and substance use disorders and with how patients cope with illness. We tried to assess spirituality in the secular French culture, where the prevalence of agnosticism and atheism are high. After the validation of the French-language version of the WHOQOL- SRPB (World Health Organization Quality Of Life - Spirituality, Religiousness and Personal Beliefs) instrument, four studies were carried out in different populations: a general population, suicide attempters, detainees and alcoholics anonymous. We found that spirituality is an important resource of coping to face to many difficulties, to give hope and optimism and a meaning of life. The lack of meaning of life was the predictor factor of suicide risk, future suicide attempt, future offences and consumption of alcohol and illicit drugs. These studies clarified the link between spirituality and mental diseases and addictions and highlighted the need to considerate spirituality in the treatment of patients in severe conditions.

No. of bitstreams: 1 dissertacao_ana_elizabeth.pdf: 9463522 bytes, checksum: 43bbac252c9ac078ab27454ed08413de (MD5) Previous issue date: 2009-03-02 / The aim of the present study was to discuss the issue of religiousness in contemporary art, addressing the topic from the standpoint of significant experiences and different positions based on data gathered from three visual artists from the state of Pernambuco (Brazil): Luciano Pinheiro, Montez Magno and Renato Valle. The choice of these names was due to their artistic value on a national and international level as well as their previous statements on the issue and the messages often expressed in their respective work, revealing a connection between religiousness and art. Religiousness is considered here as multifaceted and nomadic, whereas art is considered the expression of a personal need to reveal what is most profound in the human being. Data were gathered from semi-structured interviews. The artists recognize that religiousness is strongly present in some of their works of art. They believe that religion currently exhibits a plural, fragmented and syncretic from and has undergone changes due to globalization, which has led to an accentuated individualism and the emergence of hybrid religions adapted to individual taste. The present study allows merely an initial glance at the topic. Further studies are needed in order to elucidate all aspects involved in such a complex issue.

No. of bitstreams: 1 dissertacao_argentina.pdf: 1010400 bytes, checksum: e47edce7d04e88ea865592b6f2c26a81 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2012-03-30 / The aim of this paper is analyze the accession of Catholic evangelism for prosperity through the growth of Neopentecostalism in contemporary times, with reference to the city of St. Joseph Crown Grande, located in Pernambuco. Considering the increase in number of worshipers leaving the Catholic Church for the Universal Church of the Kingdom of God, it was the one that stood out, considering that this increase is related to their representation in the locality due to its role in the induction of persons, managing to attract new supporters and while keeping the faithful older. Data collection was done by means of participant observation in the locality during the 'meeting' local, semi-structured interviews and an extensive bibliography. We will try to focus on the reasons and processes relevant conversions and so accepted by the faithful who make the Church Universal, which managed to stand out in such a short time among Pentecostals / O objetivo de estudo deste trabalho concentra-se em analisar a adesão de católicos ao evangelismo de prosperidade, mediante o crescimento do Neopentecostalismo na contemporaneidade, tomando como referência o município de São José da Coroa Grande, situado em Pernambuco.

Religiosity and Delinquency: A Test of the Religious Ecology Hypothesis

Harmon, S. Cory 01 January 2001 (has links) (PDF)
Research testing the relationship between adolescent religiosity and delinquent behavior is inconclusive. Some studies show a significant negative relationship while others indicate no relationship. Stark (1996) asserts that the relationship between religiosity and delinquency is a function of community religiosity as opposed to personal religiosity. Thus, in areas of high religiosity, there will be a strong relationship, while areas of low religiosity will show no relationship. This study looks at the relationship between religiosity and delinquency of LDS youth in four different religious ecologies: Utah County (high religious ecology), the East coast (moderate religious ecology), the Pacific Northwest (low religious ecology), and Great Britain (very low religious ecology). Structural Equation Modeling of the data indicates that the relationship between religiosity and delinquency is strong regardless of religious ecology. Thus, the religious ecology hypothesis is not supported.

Religion And Identity Formation A Cross National Comparison Of College Students In India & The Usa

Sukumaran, Niyatee 01 January 2010 (has links)
With the exception of a few studies (Leak, 2009; Fulton, 1997), psychological research on religion has not been studied from an Eriksonian identity status perspective (Erikson, 1959; Marcia, 1966). Further, Erikson’s (1963) concept of identity appears to be inherently individualistic and may be conceptualized differently in Eastern/Asian cultures (Cloninger, 2008; Paranjpe, 2010). This study aims to understand the relationship of religiosity and quest to identity development across two cultures: USA and India. A total of 326 undergraduate students (mean age= 19.47, sd= 1.58) participated from two urban colleges in Mumbai, India (n= 159) and one in Orlando, USA (n= 167). All participants completed a battery of measures, including the measure of Religiosity, Quest Scale, Identity Distress Survey, and Ego Identity Process Questionnaire. Our first hypothesis was confirmed that females would have greater religiosity as compared to males amongst the Indian and USA sample. The second hypothesis was also confirmed that the USA sample would be found more among the achieved and moratorium ego identity statuses as compared to the Indian sample, who would be found more frequently in the foreclosed or diffused ego identity statuses. Although the USA sample was found to be significantly higher in identity exploration, the Indian sample was found to experience greater identity distress. Finally, our third hypothesis was partially confirmed in regard to religiosity, as it was not differentially related to identity variables in both the Indian and USA groups. However, religious quest was differentially related to the identity variables, in that it was related to identity distress in the USA sample, but not in the Indian sample.

Intrinsic Religiousness and its Relation to Health Outcomes

Barnet, Joseph 01 May 2021 (has links)
Religiousness, broadly defined, has been shown to be predictive of a variety of health outcomes. Past literature surrounding religiousness research has utilized different definitions and measures for the meaning of religiousness. How religiousness is defined can influence its relationship in relation to health outcomes. The present study utilized a measure for intrinsic religiousness, which is defined as an internalization of the tenets of a particular faith. The present study examined whether intrinsic religiousness predicts problematic or illicit substance use or pornography use in a sample of participants that included mostly undergraduate students from the Appalachian region, as well as some participants surveyed with the use of social media advertisements. Participants self-reported their religiousness using the Religious Surrender and Attendance Scale – 3 (RSAS-3), which has been shown to measure intrinsic religiousness. Religiousness as measured by the RSAS-3 predicted lower levels of illicit and problematic substance use, as well as lower levels of pornography use. The present study extends findings regarding religiousness and health outcomes. Limitations and future research directions are discussed.
