Varv på Beckholmen / Shipyard on Beckholmen

Beckholmen är en ö vilket gör dess tillgänglighet begränsad. Visserligen kan man nå ön per fot men eftersom att det pågår industriverksamhet på ön är endast en liten del av den tillgänglig för allmänheten. Resten ägs tillträde endast av de som arbetar på ön. Ön är visuell på håll från bl.a. Slussen, hela Södermalms nordöstra strand och Henriksdal vilket gör att den lätt kan hamna i blickfånget om den huserar en större utmärkande byggnad. Mitt projekt är en skulptural varvsbyggnad som syftar till att framhäva Beckholmen och dess renässans som en ö med sjöfartsverksamhet. Ön är efter en tidigare marksanering av farliga kemikalier friskare än vad den varit på många hundra år och tanken är nu att få varvsverksamheten på ön att återigen blomstra. Ön består av så kallad ruderatmark vilket innebär att jordmassor ständigt är i omvälvning på grund av människans hantering. Detta gör floran föränderlig, många frön kan ligga och vila länge i jorden innan de får möjlighet att gro. Min idé är att det nya varvet på Beckholmen spränger upp ur jorden och tränger undan markmassorna. Den centrala skrovhallen kläs helt i kanalplast och de omgivande verkstäderna har ett väldigt dämpat uttryck. Öns och byggnadens placering i stadens historiska säger oss att många är de signaturbyggnader längs vattnet som slåss om uppmärksamhet. I dagsljus vilar skrovhallen mot de mörka sidobyggnaderna och efter mörkrets intrång träder den fram som en solitär i form av en starkt lysande lykta. En byggnad - två uttryck. / Beckholmen is an island which makes its availability is limited. Admittedly, one can reach the island by foot but because of ongoing industrial activity on the island, only a small part of it is publicly available. The rest is accessible only for those who work on the island. The island can be seen from places such as Slussen, the northeast shore of Södermalm and Henriksdal which makes it very visible if it houses a larger building. My project is a sculptural building that aims to highlight Beckholmen and its renaissance as a maritime island. Recently a major decontamination of dangerous chemicals was made. The top layers of soil which have long been exposed to contamination from various industries, was replaced. The island is now healthier than it has been for hundreds of years and the desire now is to make the ship related activities on the island to bloom once again. The island consists of ruderal land which means that masses of soil are frequently being moved by human handeling. This makes the flora inconstant, seeds can rest a long time in the soil before they get the chance to grow. My idea is that the new shipyard at Beckholmen blasts up through the ground. The centrally positioned hull hall is all cladded in polycarbonate plastics and the smaller surrounding workshops have a very subdued expression. The island and the building's location in the historic city center tell us that many of the buildings along the water are fighting for attention. The shipyard should during daylight be perceived as the large industrial building it is, and during the dark hours come forward much more in the form of a glowing lantern; one building, two expressions.

The present study was undertaken to determine how the urgent wartime need for clothing reclamation is being met, by the home economics departments of the Virginia Public Schools. It was felt that one procedure for this was to determine the various clothing reclamation processes being taught in the schools as well as those which are being performed by the students. It was decided to limit the study to the schools offering vocational home economics for white students in Virginia. Data used were secured from 31 teachers and 123 students in 29 schools. When one thinks of motor vehicle accident damage repairs, one often thinks of unscrupulous operators and a scurrilous industry. While this is regrettably often the case, there is a counterpoint, being the significant number of motor body repair firms that have invested significant sums in establishing accredited and certified motor body repair outlets, and who offer a premium service. The industry is one that is regulated by the South African Motor Body Repair Association, a body that seeks to dictate a standard of repairs by dictating membership eligibility relative to investment in equipment. Most unfortunately, this stipulation does not adequately take into account the flow of work that there may be from the motor vehicle insurance industry, and many repairers find themselves having to resort to nefarious means to ensure that business comes their way. The author of this report is a co-owner of an advanced major structural motor body repairer. Rather than stooping to unethical practices, the owners have sought to undertake a position appraisal and gap analysis with the intention of uncovering the strategic alternatives available to their firm. The firm has implemented the strategic choices highlighted by this report to good effect and has enjoyed enhanced revenue streams and business competitiveness as a result of undertaking this exercise. Att försvara sin existens på sociala medier : En kvalitativ studie om hur Voi Technology kommunicerar externt för att uppfattas som en legitim aktör

In the past few years, the number of e-scooter rental services has rapidly increased in Sweden and across Europe. The increased usage of e-scooters has created problems, for example with accessibility on sidewalks and traffic safety. Consequently, the e-scooter industry has become a highly debated topic. This case study examined how Voi Technology communicate to profile themselves as legitimate, based on Max Weber’s principles of legitimation and Mark C. Suchman’s legitimation strategies. Three research questions were formulated to be able to fulfill the aim of the study: 1) Which of Suchman’s strategies to maintain legitimacy can be distinguished in Voi Technology’s external communication? 2) Which of Suchman’s strategies to repair legitimacy can be distinguished in Voi Technology’s external communication? 3) Which of Weber’s principles of legitimation can be distinguished in Voi Technology’s external communication? 30 posts from Voi’s social media accounts on Instagram, Facebook and Linkedin were analyzed with a qualitative content analysis and a semiotic analysis. The results showed that Voi are using the strategies “protect accomplishments” and “perceive change” to maintain legitimacy and the strategies “normalize” and “restructure” to repair legitimacy. The study did also find the legal-rational and charismatic principles of legitimation in Voi’s communication. The traditional principle of legitimation could not be found. Instead, Voi often presented themselves as non-traditional and innovative. This study contributes with more knowledge about how organizations can communicate to get legitimacy, when an organization or market is being questioned.

Nonconvex Economic Dispatch by Integrated Artificial Intelligence

Abstract This dissertation presents a new algorithm by integrating evolutionary programming (EP), tabu search (TS) and quadratic programming (QP), named the evolutionary-tabu quadratic programming (ETQ) method, to solve the nonconvex economic dispatch problem (NED). This problem involves the economic dispatch with valve-point effects (EDVP), economic dispatch with piecewise quadratic cost function (EDPQ), and economic dispatch with prohibited operating zones (EDPO). EDPV, EDPQ and EDPO are similar problems when ETQ was employed. The problem was solved in two phases, the cost-curve-selection subproblem, and the typical ED solving subproblem. The first phase was resolved by using a hybrid EP and TS, and the second phase by QP. In the solving process, EP with repairing strategy was used to generate feasible solutions, TS was used to prevent prematurity, and QP was used to enhance the performance. Numerical results show that the proposed method is more effective than other previously developed evolutionary computation algorithms.

Šiame darbe pateikti duomenys apie Vilniaus miesto gatvių tinklą, jų techninius parametrus, trumpai apžvelgiama Vilniaus miesto gatvių būklė. Nagrinėti pažaidų tipai gatvėse su asfalto danga, pažaidų atsiradimo priežastys bei jų nustatymo metodikos, naudojamos įrangos. Nurodomi transporto eismo intensyvumo matavimo metodai, įranga. Atlikta analizė vizualiai nustatytų asfalto dangos pažaidų vienuolikos gatvių, esančių Vilniau mieste, bei transporto eismo intensyvumo matavimų, naudojant automatinį skaičiuoklį – klasifikatorių Marksman 660. Įvertinta asfalto dangos pažaidų bei transporto eismo intensyvumo priklausomybė. Atsižvelgiant į darbe atliktą analizę, sudarytas prioritetinis Vilniaus miesto remontuotinų gatvių sąrašas. / In this work there are supplied the net of Vilnius city streets, its engineering parameters, condition of streets in Vilnius has been overlooked briefly. There has been analysed types of defects in streets with asphalt pavement, reasons for origination of defects and methods for identification, usable equipment. Methods of measurement of traffic intensity and usable equipment has been also indicated. There has been analysed defects of asphalt pavement, which had been defined visually in eleven streets in Vilnius city, and measurements of traffic volume using the counter-sizer Marksman 660. Dependence of asphalt pavement defects and traffic volume has been estimated too. According to the analyse of this work, there has been done the list of priority for repairing these eleven streets in Vilnius city.
