Multiplicity and gendering the Holy Grail in The Da Vinci Code and the Mists of AvalonVillasenor-Oldham, Victoria Anne 01 January 2007 (has links)
This thesis explores how both texts - The Da Vinci Code and The Mists of Avalon - write femininity onto the Holy Grail in seemingly problematic ways, and the way in which women's voices, through the feminization of the Grail, are often silenced.

Previous issue date: 2007-12-07 / Notable mathematics teacher, Lewis Carroll, pseudonym of Charles Lutwidge Dodgson (1832-1898), made the mixture of mathematics with literature a ludic environment for learning that discipline. Author of Alice s Adventures In Wonderland and its sequel Alice Through The Looking Glass, he eventually created a real and complex universe which uses what we call the logic of the nonsense as an element to motivate the development of mathematical thinking of the reader, taking it as well, learn by establishing a link between the concrete (mathematics) and the imaginary (their universe). In order to investigate and discuss the educational potential of their works and state some elements that can contribute to a decentralized math education from the traditional method of following the models and decorate formulas, we visited his works based on the studies of archeology of knowledge (FOUCAULT, 2007), the rational thought and symbolic thinking (VERGANI, 2003) and about the importance of stories and narratives to the development of human cognition (FARIAS, 2006). Through a descriptive, analytical study, we used the literary construction and presented part of our study in form of a mathematical novel, to give the mathematical school a particular charm, without depriving it of its basics properties as discipline and content. Our study showed how the works of Carroll have a strong didactic element that can deploy in various activities of study and teaching for mathematics classes / Ex?mio professor de matem?tica, Lewis Carroll, pseud?nimo de Charles Lutwidge Dodgson (1832 1898), fez da mistura da matem?tica com a literatura um ambiente l?dico para a aprendizagem dessa disciplina.

A skeptical feminist exploration of binary dystopias in Marion Zimmer Bradley's The mists of AvalonLindstrom, Alexandra Elizabeth Anita 01 January 2005 (has links)
In Marion Zimmer Bradley's retelling of the Arthurian legends, The Mists of Avalon, she creates two dystopic cultures: Avalon and Camelot. Contrasting Bradley's account of the legends with the traditional version, Sir Thomas Malory's Le Morte d'Arthur, reveals that Bradley's sweeping revisions of the tradition do little to create a feminist ideal. A skeptical questioning of the text's plot and characters with the Women's Movement in mind opens an interpretation of the text as a critique of feminism itself.

Proměny ženských hrdinek knížek lidového čtení. Velmi utěšená a kratochvílná historie o krásné panně Mageloně a její hrdinka z hlediska kurtoazního ideálu. / Changing Images of Heroines in Popular Prose Romances. Velmi utěšená a kratochvílná historie o krásné panně Mageloně (The Delightful and Entertaining Story of the Beutiful Maiden Maguelone). The Heroine of this Story from the Point of View of the Courtly Ideal.Kotšmídová, Alena January 2014 (has links)
Velmi utěšená a kratochvílná historie o krásné panně Mageloně, dceři krále z Neapolis, a o jednom rytíři jménem Petrovi, znamenitého hraběte z Provincí synu (The Delightful and Entertaining Story of the Beautiful Young Maiden Maguelone, Daughter of the King of Naples, and of a certain Knight called Peter, the Son of the Distinguished Count of Provence) printed anonymously in Olomouc in 1780, is one of those works into which literary science has hitherto scarcely ever inquired. It is nevertheless a text with a very long and complex genesis. We can follow its development from a medieval French tale of love, via a German adaptation to an early modern Czech popular prose romance. In the story of Maguelone, close attention is paid, as the very title suggests, to the main heroine, which is also a theme which in research into older Czech literature has been hitherto rather neglected. In the present thesis, we focus therefore on the analysis of this character. In particular, we try to show how the way she is portrayed is significantly influenced by the medieval conception of courtly literature, despite the fact that courtly epic literature is not otherwise particularly well documented in literature written in Czech and left no particularly rich tradition behind it. Key words: courtly love, courtly literature,...

After a period producing fanzines and short stories, he starts to create a series of albums with dense stories, characterized by disturbed characters. This research intends to reflect about his narrative in the albums Transubstanciação, Eu te amo Lucimar and Confluência da Forquilha; how Lourenço Mutarelli develops his comics construction, identifying the visual narrative specificities and, consequently, some possibilities of the comics language. Mutarelli's work is distinguished and authorial, his narrative cuts are fragmented, the vision of a deformed and chaotic world, the union of different visual forms - drawings that are sometimes realistic, sometimes deformed, combined with photographic elements - and verbal forms - colloquial speech combined with poems and explanatory notes - creates a plural work, that needs a creative effort to the reading process and analysis, once it goes beyond the limits of the traditional analyses, overcoming the subjectivity and uncertainty. Even though the author has a great importance for the national comics and is one of the forerunners of the graphic novels in Brazil, much of his comics production hasn't been widely studied yet, especially his early albums. Therefore, we intend to delimit some aspects of the author's poetics, in addition to the reading possibilities of these works that represent a mark for the Brazilian comics / Mestre

Cavalaria e picaresca no romance D\' A Pedra do Reino de Ariano Suassuna / Chivabric and picaresque in Ariano Suassena\'s novel D\' A Pedra do ReinoCardoso, Maria Inês Pinheiro 25 February 2011 (has links)
The purpose of this paper is to show that in the conception of the novel Romance dA Pedra do Reino e o príncipe do sangue do vai-e-volta by the Brazilian writer Ariano Suassuna, the chivalry books and the picaresque novel, two narrative subgenres of Hispanic origin, stand out as constitutive elements. Strongly attached to a well defined notion of time and space, they go through adaptations to suit adequately the environment of the Romance dA Pedra do Reino. The author includes in his narrative an extensive collection of Northeast-centered popular cultural manifestations (in whose hybrid characteristics are stressed out Iberian traits) as catalyst and amalgam of these elements. The comparative analysis is used with the aim of identifying the traits of the gender models considered and the adaptable mechanisms employed by the author.
