Fasilitering van ‘n bate-gebaseerde benadering ter bevordering van leerders se psigososiale ontwikkeling in ‘n nywerheidskool (Afrikaans)Rautenbach, Alge 03 June 2009 (has links)
The aim of this study is to explore the assets that are available in the context of the school of industries that will promote the youth at risk’s psycho-social development using the asset based approach. The researcher followed a qualitative research approach guided by an interpretivist epistemology and employed a case study design in the natural environment. Multiple data collection methods (interviews, focus groups and documentation) were used in order to gain rich descriptions of the participants’ perceptions of assets available for the enhancement of the adolescent’s psycho-social development. Results indicate that many assets for example, human as well as physical resources, structures and procedures are currently used and can be effectively mobilized in the future at schools of industries to promote the development of the adolescent on personal, social and moral levels. Placement at a school of industries is beneficial to the youth at risk because he can continue his schooling and therapeutic counseling is available which will empower him to successfully return to the community. Dysfunctions in the system involved with the placement of youth at risk at schools of industries are currently preventing the use of the school of industries, involved in this research, as a community asset for the child- and youth care system.
Montreal is a metropolis where people of all origins, socio-economic background and
education live. As public health advocates, our goal is to ensure that each person is afforded
equal rights to both social opportunities and the benefits which make for a healthy life.
In Montreal, it is possible to observe inequalities in areas such as education, work, housing,
and food security, amongst many others. This thesis is a case study of CMTQ’s advocacy
methods between january 1st 2011 and june 1st 2016 as well as their approach to fighting
poverty and social exclusion (in the public debate). In addition this thesis will specifically
explores how CMTQ activists apply their methods of advocacy in order to eliminate poverty
and social exclusion.
The Montreal Coalition of Neighborhood Round Tables (CMTQ) is a Non-Profit Organization
(NPO) that places the population at the center of its campaigns and works to ensure that
Montreal is a fair and egalitarian city that prioritizes issues of poverty and social exclusion.
The Montreal Initiative of Support for Local Social Development (IM), a program of the
Montreal Public Health Department (DSP), the Centraide of Greater Montreal and of the
CMTQ, provides financial support to institutions such as local round tables with the purpose
of improving the quality and living conditions of Montrealers. The CMTQ works in
partnership with neighbourhood councils by working on issues raised by local social
development and also by working on ways to eradicate poverty and social exclusion in order
to better the quality and living conditions of citizens. This study uses primarily qualitative data
derived from the analysis of semi-structured interviews, the examination of official positions
held by the organizations, thesis publications and discussions in traditional media (The Press),
as well as a quantitative content analysis found on social medias especially Twitter. The
results of this research permitted the identification of the CMTQ’s advocates and also shed
light on the strategies and tools used by the CMTQ as well as the contents of theses strategies
and message and the way activists apply these tools.

The impact of an organisational capacity assessment on non-profit organisations in South Africa.Wagner, Andre January 2020 (has links)
Magister Economicae - MEcon / The research study investigated the potential impact that organisational capacity assessments can have on the long-term sustainability of non-profit organisations (NPOs). The researcher employed longitudinal research design as the main instrument in the collection of data. Data was collected from four local non-profit organisations in the Cullinan and Bronkhorstspruit areas of South Africa. These organisations were evaluated by means of a questionnaire, which was developed by the researcher. NPOs can only play a pivotal role in community and social services if management, leadership, governance and other elements of organisational capacity are well developed and continuously strengthened. This is critical for attracting local and international donors who provide crucial running costs and relieve national, provincial and local government departments of the financial burden. Currently, the South African government supports NPOs in South Africa. The legislative and registration aspects of NPOs are regulated by the NPO Act (Act 71 of 1997) and the Income Tax Act (Act 58 of 1962). The State of South African Registered NPOs Report 2010/2011 indicated a growth of the number of registrations to have increased by 8.3%. However, in the same financial year a total number of 468 NPOs were deregistered; 98% of these lost their registration due to non-compliance of regulatory requirements. According to the State of South African Registered NPOs Report (2016) the total number of applications received for the financial year was 16 726 (53.7%), however 4 421 (46%) did not meet the requirements of sections 12-13 of the NPO Act, an issue that would definitely affect the existence of non-compliant institutions.

Lönsamhet vid renovering av miljonprogrammet – En fallstudie av Svenska Bostäders investeringar på Järvafältet / Profitability in the renovation of the Swedish million homes programme – A case study of Svenska Bostäder and their investments within JärvaKindbom, Marcus, Sandblom, Oskar January 2015 (has links)
A large share of the existing multi-family housing units built during the Swedish million homes programme includes a major amount of neglected maintenance. Several municipal housing companies have initiated large and costly investments within their stock of million program units. The extent of which kind of measures that is undertaken by each company varies and it is uncertain if the measures are profitable in the long term. A large share of residents within these areas undergoes marginalization as a result of heavily developed segregation. Investments are therefore estimated to not only affect real estate companies but also provide an opportunity to change the development of the society within these areas. This paper aims to evaluate profitability of these investments through a case study of the municipal housing company Svenska Bostäder AB and its renovation program of socially exposed housing areas within the northern parts of Stockholm. Since 2011 it is however unclear if social investments within the area can be justified by municipal housing companies due to a legislative change. The analysis differentiates profitability on single property level from profitability on municipal level. The method, which is used on single property level, is based on valuation of the real estate asset before and after renovation. Maximum level of investment on single property level which could be seen as profitable comprises of the difference in value of the asset before and after renovation. Effects on the society from increased employment, reduced criminality is estimated through a cash flow analysis and the present values of reduced costs are added to the existing analysis on property level. The result shows that the investments are not profitable for the society according to the method that has been used. However, an extension of the cash flow period and addition of extra variables could lead to profitability. Further, it is stated that Svenska Bostäder AB obtains lower net operating income compared to private real estate companies for similar quality improvements within their renovations; this could affect the value of the real estate asset in a longer run. Despite the fact that the analysis do not show any proof of profitability from these investments, the conclusion that there is room for potential improvements in how these renovations are executed could still be drawn. It should also be possible to lower the costs of operation and administration further. The municipal housing companies also have a great potential to contribute to further progress of social wealth fare within these areas through their size as clients and through coordination with other real estate companies.
