Touchscreen interfaces for machine control and educationKivila, Arto 20 September 2013 (has links)
The touchscreen user interface is an inherently dynamic device that is becoming
ubiquitous. The touchscreen’s ability to adapt to the user’s needs makes it superior
to more traditional haptic devices in many ways. Most touchscreen devices come with
a very large array of sensors already included in the package. This gives engineers
the means to develop human-machine interfaces that are very intuitive to use. This
thesis presents research that was done to develop a best touchscreen interface for
driving an industrial crane for novice users. To generalize the research, testing also
determined how touchscreen interfaces compare to the traditional joystick in highly
dynamic tracking situations using a manual tracking experiment.
Three separate operator studies were conducted to investigate touchscreen control
of cranes. The data indicates that the touchscreen interfaces are superior to the
traditional push-button control pendent and that the layout and function of the
graphical user interface on the touchscreen plays a roll in the performance of the
human operators.
The touchscreen interface also adds great promise for allowing users to navigate
through interactive textbooks. Therefore, this thesis also presents developments
directed at creating the next generation of engineering textbooks. Nine widgets were
developed for an interactive mechanical design textbook that is meant to be delivered
via tablet computers. Those widgets help students improve their technical writing
abilities, introduce them to tools they can use in product development, as well as give
them knowledge in how some dynamical systems behave. In addition two touchscreen
applications were developed to aid the judging of a mechanical design competition.

Nagrinėjama marketingo strategijos sąvoka. Išanalizavus ir susiteminus literatūrą marketingo strategijos planavimo, formulavimo ir įgyvendinimo klausimu, pateiktas teorinis marketingo strategijos modelis, tinkantis lauko vaizdo reklamos verslui. Išorinės reklamos rinkoje aplinka nuolat kinta, aštrėja įmonių konkurencinė kova, todėl darbe siekiama išanalizuoti lauko vaizdo reklamos verslo ypatumus, marketingo aplinką ir nustatyti palankias ir negatyvias rinkos tendencijas. Taip pat atliekama tipinės lauko vaizdo reklamos �����monės vidinės aplinkos analizė, įvertinamas marketingo komplekso efektyvumas ir nustatomos įmonės stipriosios ir silpnosios veiklos pusės. Remiantis išorine, įmonės aplinkos analizėmis ir atliktų tyrimų duomenimis, suformuluojama marketingo strategija, skirta lauko vaizdo reklamos verslui, kuri suteiktų pranašumų rinkoje. Atskirai pridedami darbo priedai. / Master thesis “Marketing Strategy Developing Business of Outdoor Video Screens Advertisement” sets out to examine the specifics of market strategy planning, formulation ant implementation, to display opportunities of publicity. The author of thesis, according to analysis of theory, suggests the theoretical model of marketing strategy suitable for outdoor video advertisement. The rapidly changing environment in advertising business and growth of competition between enterprises in the outdoor advertisement sector is creating new requirements for companies. Therefore, the thesis seeks to assess outdoor video advertisement business market environment and determine its opportunities and threats. Also thesis examines business internal capabilities, assesses marketing mix and determines strengths and weaknesses. Then, using situation analysis results, a marketing strategy is being developed, which would improve the outdoor video advertisement business marketing performance. Marketing strategy is being presented by implementation model. Finally the conclusions are proposed. It is proposed marketing competitive strategy model for an outdoor video advertisement servise development. 視覺障礙者主要透過聲音來記錄生活與體驗世界,如同明眼人以文字或相片記憶重要時刻一般。然而觀察現有錄音裝置與軟體,皆尚未能提供適合視障者使用的完善錄音流程;即使是有語音功能的輔助裝置,不僅其價格、軟體更新、硬體維修等因市場小眾較為不易,也因為只是單純的錄音工具而無法流暢的銜接後續的檔案整理與分享。直到近幾年智慧型手機的興起,藉著其為市場主流產品、有豐富的軟體支援、隨時可連上網路等條件,逐漸成為視障者更好的輔助裝置的選擇。
為使視障者也能順利的操作觸控式介面,過往研究者針對Eyes-free情境提出了相關設計原則,而現今手機作業系統也大多內建螢幕報讀機制,讓視障者能自在與自信的與手機互動。雖然手機的可及性與通用性越來越受重視,專門為視障者設計的軟體卻並不多,輔助功能的開發資源和準則也待進一步的發展。本研究於初期的使用者觀察與訪談中,先深入了解視障者利用聲音記事的習慣與遇到的困難,並再進行初步設計方案的功能需求訪談,以切合使用者實際錄音的情境。
綜上所述,本研究為以視覺障礙者為目標使用族群,於觸控式手機設計錄音輔助軟體「HearMe」,解決視障者日常生活中聲音記錄的問題,並嘗試以手勢和語音設計,探索視障者操作觸控式介面的可能性。本系統原型有幾項重要特點:(1)快捷手勢可開始或結束錄音、(2)標記與播放重點段落、(3)即時編輯與歸類檔案、(4)以分類清單快速搜尋、(5)行動通訊立即分享;其他特色功能包括語音檔名、快轉與倒轉手勢、自訂群組和地標等。本系統原型開發時運用迭代設計流程共實作三次週期,每個版本皆經過設計、測試、分析、和調整功能等過程,逐步驗證系統的可行性與實用性。
經過三次的設計循環與共計18位視障者參與測試,本研究於第三版系統原型完成能實際應用在生活中的錄音軟體。受測者認為HearMe操作簡單、容易學習,快速播放重點段落省時省力、分類清楚而方便尋找檔案;同時它能夠以完善的語音提示和整合的錄音流程彌補現有裝置不足的部分,讓手機成為生活中記錄聲音的最佳輔助工具。最後,本研究以Google Analysis分析HearMe實際使用數據,並搭配訪談回饋總結系統設計的成果與互動設計之建議,提供HearMe或其他開發者做為日後設計的參考。 / The auditory sense is the primary channel for the visually impaired to experience the world, just as sighted people using words and photos to capture important moment. However, current recording devices mostly don’t have compact recording flows for the visually impaired. The devices with voice feedback are very expensive, nearly no softwares updated, and lack of maintenance supports due to the minority of the market. Also, these devices only can record and play but not organizing and sharing files with others. In recent years, smartphone’s popularity has been rising. It is the mainstream product with variety softwares and can be always online, showing the potential to become alternative accessible device for the visually impaired.
In order to allow the visually impaired to use the touch screens, researchers have presented several design principles under eyes-free situations. Moreover, screen readers are embedded into smartphone operating systems like iOS and Android, which enable the visually impaired to freely and comfortably interact with smartphones. While the accessibility and universality of smartphones have been noticed, there are few applications tailored for their use, and the accessibility resources and principles need to be developed. In the first phase of user interview, we investigated their behaviors and difficulties when recording. After the design strategy has been made, we planned a second interview to verify if the functions we defined are suitable for their actual needs.
This study focus on the visually impaired and tries to resolve the recording and memorizing problems they faced everyday by developing an accessible recording application on smartphone. The prototype, HearMe, provides specialized gestures and voice feedback. Followings are the highlight features of HearMe: (1) Short-cut gesture to start and finish recording, (2) marking and playing important parts, (3) editing and grouping files on device, (4) rapid searching by classified lists, and (5) real-time sharing. Other features include audio file name, gestures to play forward or backward, and custom groups and landmarks. While developing, this prototype applied iterative design process and repeated the flow cycle for three times. Every generation has been through steps of design, testing, analyzing, and modifying; by this approach, system’s usabilities can be gradually improved.
After three cycles of design process which involved total 18 participants, we present a recording application that can use in real life. Participants command that HearMe is easy to operate and learn, playing by parts saving a lot of effort, and structured grouping helps file searching. Additionally, it provides well-defined audio feedbacks and integrated recording flow, complementing the shortcomings current devices have. These advantages make HearMe become the best tool to assist them for recording sounds during everyday life. This study finally concludes design considerations and suggestions by discussing usage data from Google Analytics and interview feedbacks, provides references for other assistive developers.

This thesis consists of fundamental research into the effect that a display’s overall density has on a user’s performance and preference while performing simple tasks using a window-styled computer application specifically developed for this study. This study sought to reevaluate previous findings by exploring their application in the more current, present-day environment. In this research, overall density was considered to be a measure of a screen’s complexity and was examined at three different levels. Users performed a series of tasks using only one of three available screens with different density levels. The same tasks were performed by all users to determine if different density levels exhibit any effect on the user’s performance (as measured by completion time and accuracy) or preference. The outcome of these trials demonstrates that overall density and complexity play an important role in a user's performance and acceptance of a screen.

ABSTARCT The aim of this thesis is to treat the problem of wastewater pretreatment on the sewer network with a focus on storm water overflow and their impact on waterways with regard to The Methodological Manual for Assessment of storm water overflow within uniform sewerage systems in urban areas. This work describes the legislation relating to storm water overflow and includes comparison with other countries. Furthermore, there is processed the outline of objects and equipment which can be used for wastewater pre-treatment in the sewer network. In the practical part of the thesis there is designed a new solution for the mobile spillway edge of the storm water overflow OK2A, which is located within the sewer network in Brno. In the practical part of the paper there is depicted the project documentation of newly designed equipment and objects. Water management companies, design offices, students and the general public can use this thesis as an inspiration.

Stomoxys calcitrans : évaluation du rôle dans la transmission de Besnoitia besnoiti et nouveaux moyens de contrôle / Stomoxys calcitrans : assessment of the role in the transmission of Besnoitia besnoiti and new methods of controlSharif, Shukri 21 June 2018 (has links)
La mouche charbonneuse, Stomoxys calcitrans, est une mouche hématophage commune et cosmopolite. Elle est le vecteur de nombreux agents pathogènes dont Besnoitia besnoiti, une coccidie parasite des bovins à l’origine de la formation de kystes cutanés. La compétence vectorielle de S. calcitrans pour B. besnoiti reste cependant mal connue. Dans ce travail, la persistance des formes bradyzoites et tachyzoites de B. besnoiti a été évaluée sur les pièces buccales et dans le tractus digestif des mouches. Dans ces conditions expérimentales, B. besnoiti persiste deux jours au maximum chez les stomoxes. La destruction rapide du parasite chez ce vecteur suggère que la transmission vectorielle mécanique ne peut avoir lieu que très peu de temps après un repas contaminant sur un hôte bovin infecté. De plus, nous avons étudié la capacité des stomoxes à transmettre les formes bradyzoites ou tachyzoites à des lapins, utilisés ici comme animaux modèles de besnoitiose. Des repas interrompus de stomoxes ont été réalisés sur des bovins en phase chronique de besnoitiose (source de formes bradyzoites dans leur peau) ou bien sur du sang contaminé avec des tachyzoites de culture. Le repas a ensuite été complété sur des lapins. Les résultats de cette étude ont montré que 300 stomoxes sont suffisants pour transmettre des bradyzoites virulents d’un bovin à un lapin qui a montré des signes de besnoitiose aigue et une séroconversion. Dans la troisième partie de ce travail, des méthodes alternatives aux insecticides ont été testées afin de proposer des stratégies de contrôle efficaces et pérennes contre ces vecteurs. L’attractivité pour les stomoxes de sept types d’écrans bleus, présentant entre eux de légères variations de réflectance autour de 460 nm, a été étudiée, de même que les facteurs influençant l’efficacité des pièges (hauteur par rapport au sol, orientation est ou ouest de l’écran, proximité de différents hôtes ou d’un tas de fumier). Les résultats ont montré une très grande attractivité, de très hauts niveaux de capture et une grande sélectivité de tous les écrans testés. Un total de 164692 stomoxes a été capturé au cours de l’étude (soit 24 jours de piégeage avec 4 écrans par jour et 8 heures par jour). La moitié inférieure des écrans a capturé la majorité des stomoxes (70%), de même, le nombre de stomoxes capturés par la partie de l’écran orientée à l’Est est plus important que sur la face orientée à l’Ouest. Ces éléments soulignent l’intérêt de cetype de dispositifs dans la lutte contre les stomoxes. / The Stable fly, Stomoxys calcitrans, is a common and worldwide-distributed blood-feeding fly. It is the vector of numerous pathogens including Besnoitia besnoiti, a cyst-forming coccidian parasite of cattle. Vector competency of S. calcitrans for B. besnoiti remains poorly understood. We investigated here the persistence of bradyzoites and tachyzoites forms of B. besnoiti on mouthparts and in digestive tract of S. calcitrans. In experimental conditions, B. besnoiti proved to persist until two days in stable flies. The fast destruction of parasite within this vector suggests that mechanical transmission could occur a short time only after a contaminated blood meal. Moreover, we investigated the competence of stable flies to transmit immediately B besnoiti bradyzoites and tachyzoites to susceptible rabbits after an interrupted blood meal on chronically infected cows (source of bradyzoites) or on a tachyzoite-contaminated blood meal. The results show that 300 S. calcitrans only were able to transmit virulent bradyzoites to rabbits which suffered from clinical signs of acute besnoitiosis and seroconverted. In the third part of this study, we examined sustainable methods as alternative to insecticides but efficient to control this pest. Seven different types of blue screens, with slight differences in their reflectance around 460 nm, were tested in order to evaluate their attractiveness for stable flies and to determine the factors associated with the efficiency of trapping (height of screens, east versus west side of blue screen, proximity of different hosts and manure). The results showed high attractiveness, high number of captures and very high selectivity of all tested screens, with a total number of 164692 stable flies during the study (24 days of capture, 4 blue screens per day, 8 hours per day). The results showed that the lower part of the blue screens caught the majority of stable flies, whereas the east orientation was the most attractive which caught up to 60 % of the total number captured of stable flies. Taking together, these results are highlighting the interest of these new devices in the future control of stable flies.

La presente investigación busca analizar los elevados tiempos improductivos generados en el proceso de fabricación de estructuras metálicas. El proceso productivo abarca las actividades de soldadura, biselado y traslado a zona de armado, las cuales fueron identificadas como las más críticas, debido a que en dichas actividades se genera una mayor cantidad de tiempos improductivos. El problema mencionado es generado por diversos factores, dentro de los cuales destacan la falta de orden y limpieza en las diversas estaciones de trabajo, y la ausencia de mecanismos que permitan controlar la producción de la empresa. Frente a ello, se desarrolló una propuesta de mejora del proceso de fabricación de mallas secadoras de ladrillos empleando herramientas de Lean Manufacturing como Kanban y 5’S para reducir los tiempos improductivos e incrementar la rentabilidad de la empresa. Para ello, se llevó a cabo una constante investigación de la literatura existente respecto a la metodología empleada, con la finalidad de encontrar la mejor alternativa que permita brindar solución a la problemática identificada. Los resultados obtenidos evidencian una reducción del 62% del tiempo improductivo generado en el proceso actual. Finalmente, para determinar la viabilidad de la propuesta presentada, se calcularon los indicadores VAN y TIR. Asimismo, se realizó la simulación del nuevo sistema para validar los resultados obtenidos respecto a la reducción de los tiempos improductivos generados. / This research analyzes high unproductive times generated in the manufacturing process of metal structures. The production process includes welding, beveling and transfer activities to the assembly area, which were identified as the most critical, because these activities generate a greater number of unproductive times. This is generated by several factors, among which are the lack of order and cleanliness in the various workstations, and the absence of mechanisms to control the company's production. For this reason, a proposal was developed to improve the brick drying mesh manufacturing process using Lean Manufacturing tools such as Kanban and 5'S to reduce downtime and increase the company's profitability With this purpose, a constant investigation of the existing literature regarding the methodology used was carried out, in order to find the best alternative that allows to provide a solution to the identified problem. The results obtained shows a 62% reduction in the non-productive time generated in the current process. Finally, to determine the viability of the presented proposal, the NPV and IRR indicators were calculated.
