'n Ondersoek na die hantering van seksueel-gemolesteerde kindersVan Straaten, Helen Wilna 06 1900 (has links)
Text in Afrikaans / Hierdie studie ondersoek die bantering van seksueel-gemolesteerde kinders. Die
kliniese beeld sowel as die fisiese- en gedragsimptome is kriteria by die uitkenning
van seksuele molestering. Die bantering van die seksueel-gemolesteerde kind is
medebepalend vir die onmiddellike en langtennyn gevolge van seksuele
molestering.
Seksuele molestering word vanuit 'n sielkundig-opvoedkundige perspektief
bespreek.
This study investigates the treatment of sexually-abused children. The clinical
framework and the physical and behavioural symptoms being some of the criteria
utilised to identify such children. The methods used to treat cases co-determine
the immediate and long-term effects of sexual abuse.
Sexual abuse is discussed from an educational-psychological perspective. The
study reflects on the child's meanin& experiencing, involvement, selfactualisation,
self-concept and their effects on her life.
Professional approaches, therapeutic techniques and treatments are described for
use by professionals and agencies, based on an empirical investigation conducted
in Witbank.
The results of the research indicate a non-uniform approach in guidelines used for
therapeutic techniques and the treatment of sexually-abused children. The
research shows further that interaction between professional bodies and
-individuals in treatment of these cases is poor and the benefits that should result
from uniform treatment are therefore severely limited / Psychology of Education / M. Ed. (Spesialisering in Voorligting)

The socially isolated child at schoolBudhal, Richi 11 1900 (has links)
The phenomenon of social isolation among school children in most instances goes unnoticed by
both teachers and parents and this oversight could have serious negative restraints on the socially
isolated child's cognitive, affective, moral, personality and social development. Social isolation can
be caused either through being rejected or neglected by the peer group.
This study was carried out among primary and secondary school learners to detei:,mine the extent
to which these children are socially isolated; and to identify factors contributing to learners' social
isolation. The aim of the study is to provide teachers and parents with a foundation and rationale
for effective intervention.
A literature study was done to identify the factors influencing social isolation. Some of the factors
identified were: social competence, self-esteem, psychological well-being, intelligence, academic
achievement, moral values, physical disability, sports participation, self-perceived physical
attractiveness, self-perceived physical disability, marital status of parents, parental supervision,
parental acceptance, parental autonomy granting and parental conflict.
All aspects of development (namely, physical, cognitive, affective, personality, moral and social)
were studied in relation to the phenomenon of social isolation.
By means of an empirical investigation, it was found after a regression analysis that self-esteem,
obedience and social competence accounted for most of the variance in social isolation for
primary school learners and in the case of secondary school learners, social competence, family
supervision and self-esteem. The two most common factors were social competence and selfesteem.
From the empirical findings it was also noted that learners' home language and grade were
also associated with social isolation.
The educational implications of the findings of the literature and the empirical study are discussed
and guidelines given to assist teachers and parents to identify and eliminate the factors contributing
to the development of isolation among school learners. If both parents and teachers take
cognisance of these recommendations and try to implement them, it should help children in their
self-actualisation and facilitate their attainment of adulthood with the least developmental
restraints. / Psychology of Education / D. Ed. (Psychology of Education)

Bevordering van selfaktualisering by milieu-geremde leerders binne 'n multikulturele onderwyssisteem / The promotion of selfactualisation of milieu disadvantaged learners with a multi-cultural education systemDe Bruyn, Carina Elizabeth 06 1900 (has links)
Summaries in Afrikaans and English / The promotion of multi-cultural education and the upliftment of milieu disadvantaged
children are closely related to each other, and is presently an important issue in the
South African educational system. Poor knowledge of milieu disadvantaged children
and multi-cultural education result in the loss of valuable learner potential and the
non-fulfilment of the education policy.
In this study, the promotion of self-actualisation of milieu disadvantaged children within a
multi-cultural education system is discussed from a psychological-educational
perspective. Attention is given to the problems and issues that play a defining role in
the implementation of such an educational system. The influence of the environment en
the development and functioning of milieu disadvantaged learners is investigated

problems occur. Finally, recommendations are made to the government, teachers and

Middle childhood experience of economic instability within the family systemVan Rensburg, Lene Janse 11 1900 (has links)
This research aimed to reflect upon the experiences of children in middle childhood regarding economically unstable circumstances within the family system. The theoretical underpinnings of this study were the ecological systems theory as proposed by Bronfenbrenner, the family systems theory as well as the field theory within the gestalt paradigm. Exploratory, qualitative research design with instrumental case studies was used during this research and data collection was conducted by means of semi-structured interviews with randomly sampled participants and their parents. The researcher interviewed 16 individual children, consisting of seven male and nine female participants. The focus group consisted of seven parents, consisting of two male and five female participants.
The researcher arrived at a conclusion that children are indeed influenced by the world wide economic turmoil. The researcher found that children experience the impact of economic instability in various contexts within their field of existence. They experience the effects of economic instability within the household as changes to daily luxuries are visible, conflict between parents increase and they experience an escalation in peer pressure to keep up with the financial expectations of their peers. The researcher is therefore of the opinion that the extent to which the economic unstable circumstances influence and affect children can easily be overlooked. In the absence of voicing the experiences of children, they cannot be fully understood and the researcher recommends that significant role players, such as parents and teachers should be assisted and guided to understand and support their children in a changing world. / Social Work / M.
