This thesis investigates to what extent Swedish architecture of today is planned and designed in consideration to the human senses. A few decades ago the human senses had the light directed to itself in the world of architecture. But what about in the 2020’s, is the light still on or has sensory architecture fallen into oblivion? The objective of the thesis has been to map out whether the visual sense is currently dominating, together with closely related aspects such as whether architectural specialization or the architect’s sex affects how the senses are seen upon, how present the human senses are in today’s Swedish academic architectural programs and what effect this could have on the architecture of tomorrow.  The research method encompasses two structured, quantitative surveys; one aimed at professional architects and one aimed at architectural students/teachers. 114 professional architects responded and 48 students.  The surveys concluded that the visual sense is in fact considered the most important by the respondents and therefore hold a leading position. The human senses are overall considered very important for the user experience, despite this they are not often discussed within the professional field, displaying a lack of debate. Further analyzes establish that professional architects sometimes meet resistance and a lack of understanding among other occupations they collaborate with. The abstract nature of the human senses and the difficulties measuring them mean they can easily be downgraded to “optional aesthetics” by other occupational groups.  Teachers at the academic architectural programs also has an important standing in weighing up, through their teaching, for the limited presence of aspects of the human senses in the current required reading at the universities.

El objetivo del proyecto es ayudar en el proceso de desarrollo e inserción social de la persona con autismo. Los elementos arquitectónicos utilizados, como la arquitectura sensorial, las formas curvas, las circulaciones unidireccionales, responden a las características del usuario y todas ellas ayudan a la orientación y a la familiarización. La consideración de los aspectos que pueden lograr estímulos positivos como el paisajismo, la iluminación, los colores y el sonido, permiten al proyecto crear en un conjunto de espacios interactivos, estimulantes, funcionales, amigables y que produzcan los aprendizajes significativos. / The aim of the project is to help in the process of development and social insertion of the people with autism. The architectural elements used such as sensory architecture, curved shapes, unidirectional circulations, respond to the characteristics of the user and all of them help orientation and familiarization. Consideration of the aspects that can achieve positive stimuli such as landscaping, lighting, colours and sound, allow the project to create a set of interactive, stimulating, functional, friendly spaces that produce meaningful learning. / Tesis

El proyecto consiste en la elaboración de un establecimiento de salud de categoría (II-E), es decir un hospital de atención especializada, el cual tiene como funciones la promoción, prevención, recuperación y rehabilitación de pacientes que padezcan de cáncer. Debido a un análisis y mapeo de las unidades oncológicas ubicadas en la capital se dio a conocer el déficit existente y sobre todo el déficit de unidades pediátricas, las cuales no abastecen a Lima y mucho menos a Lima Norte. Este tiene como objetivo crear un hospital oncológico diseñado desde su concepción en los niños, por lo cual se desea generar un hospital amigable y cálido el cual genere una sensación de confort. Se desea contar con espacios que causen un efecto positivo mediante la integración de áreas verdes, salas de espera acogedoras que promuevan el juego, la incorporación de colores en los recorridos e incorporación de la luz natural en las áreas públicas. / The project consists of the elaboration of a health establishment of category (II-E), meaning specialized care hospital, whose functions are promoting, preventing, recovering and rehabilitating patients that suffer from cancer. Due to an analysis and search of oncological units located in the capital, we can notice the deficit of oncological units and specially the deficit of pediatric oncological units, which aren't enough for Lima and much less for North Lima. It has as purpose an oncological hospital designed from its conception for children, which wants to create a warm and friendly hospital that generates a feeling of comfort. It needs to have spaces that cause a positive effect through the integration of green areas, cozy waiting rooms for playing, the incorporation of colors and the incorporation of natural light in public areas. / Tesis

Un mercado es la gran despensa de abastecimiento de productos de primera necesidad, alimentos frescos y de buena calidad, en provincia, los mercados de abastos toman mayor importancia por ser un punto relevante de presencia cultural y costumbres arraigadas desde épocas antiguas, por tanto toma un valor más allá de lo comercial, siendo el caso del Mercado de Vinocanchon en Cusco, uno de los más importantes centros de abastos de la ciudad. El presente proyecto de tesis “Plaza mercado en la ciudad del Cusco” surge para desarrollar una propuesta de solución y la revaloración de una tipología olvidada en el tiempo, que tiene como enfoque revalorar los mercados de abastos como un espacio de encuentro clave para la comunicación, tradición y cultura. Mediante un criterio de reinterpretación de las antiguas Kanchas incas, se pretende generar diversos espacios de permanencia así como una fluidez espacial mediante un eje de plazas intermedias que logran fusionar la actividad comercial y el espacio público generando una mejor integración con el entorno. / Over the years, modernization and great technological advances, architecture has shown changes, certain equipment has evolved and adapted to the user and time. In Peru many facilities were forgotten, one of these being the food markets. A market is the great pantry of a city, the most important commercial, cultural and social point, but currently the existing infrastructures are neglected. That is why this thesis project "Market Square in the city of Cusco" will propose to develop a solution proposal and the revaluation of a typology forgotten in time, whose focus is to revalue the food markets as a key meeting space for communication, tradition and culture in conjunction with an architecture according to the demands and needs of the user, creating new architectural spaces and permanent environments that provide new experiences. / Tesis

El siguiente proyecto de tesis consiste de un Centro de Rehabilitación Integral para Víctimas de Violencia Doméstica en el distrito de Lurigancho – Chosica, dentro de la zona de Santa María de Huachipa. En el Perú, existe un problema cultural que se ha construido a través del tiempo, donde la mujer cumple un rol determinado colocándola por debajo del género masculino, lo cual se presenta en la desigualdad de poder entre miembros de la familia. Las víctimas de violencia familiar pueden desarrollar trastornos mentales o emocionales, y dificultades para desarrollarse en los aspectos más básicos de su vida cotidiana. Por ende, se plantea un Centro de Rehabilitación Integral, el cual brinde distintos servicios para restablecer y fortalecer la Salud Mental de estas personas. La salud mental tiene mayor peso cada día, y su rehabilitación se basa en un proceso desarrollado en conjunto por un equipo terapéutico multidisciplinario, que comprende actividades organizadas y planificadas con base en evidencia científica, dirigida al desarrollo de la máxima capacidad posible de habilidades y destrezas en las personas con trastornos mentales para mejorar su calidad de vida y lograr su reinserción y máximo nivel de rendimiento socio-laboral posible. Por lo tanto, este proyecto busca, mediante la arquitectura sensorial, contribuir en la recuperación de sus pacientes, a través del diseño de espacios que transmitan calidez, tranquilidad y una conexión interior-exterior. / The following thesis project consists of an Integral Rehabilitation Center for Victims of Domestic Violence in the district of Lurigancho - Chosica, within the Santa María de Huachipa area. In Peru, there is a cultural problem that has been built over time, where the woman fulfills a certain role by placing her below the male gender, which is presented in the inequality of power between family members. Victims of family violence can develop mental or emotional disorders, and difficulties to develop in the most basic aspects of their daily lives. Therefore, an Integral Rehabilitation Center has the purpose of providing different services to restore and strengthen Mental Health of these people. Mental health has greater weight every day, and its rehabilitation’s based on a process developed jointly by a multidisciplinary therapeutic team, which includes activities, organized and planned, based on scientific evidence, aimed at developing the maximum possible capacity of skills and abilities in people with mental disorders, to improve their quality of life and achieve their reintegration and maximum level of social-work performance possible. Therefore, this project seeks, through sensory architecture, to contribute to the recovery of its patients, through the design of spaces that transmit warmth, tranquility and an interior-exterior connection. / Tesis

El “Centro de Rehabilitación Integral para Personas con Discapacidad en Villa el Salvador” busca brindar atención médica especializada en materia de rehabilitación, considerando departamentos de atención física, mental, ocupacional y de lenguaje que atiendan las distintas necesidades que la población con discapacidad presente, enfocando su atención hacia la zona sur de Lima Metropolitana, debido a la demanda por servicios de rehabilitación y la escasez de establecimientos que brinden dicho servicio. Así mismo, mediante el estudio y análisis de los principios de la arquitectura sensorial, poder obtener las herramientas necesarias para desarrollar una propuesta de espacios destinados a la rehabilitación que contribuyan con la mejora y recuperación de los pacientes. Para ello se emplearán principios como: el uso de colores y texturas, relaciones espaciales, vegetación, contraste, luz natural, entre otros, potenciando la percepción del espacio y estimulando los sentidos en su totalidad; de tal manera que la estadía del paciente sea una experiencia lúdica y agradable frente a un proceso duro y difícil de afrontar. / The "Centro de Rehabilitación Integral para Personas con Discapacidad en Villa el Salvador" seeks to provide specialized medical care in the field of rehabilitation, considering departments of physical, mental, occupational and language care that meet the different needs of the population with disabilities, focusing its attention on the southern area of Metropolitan Lima, due to the demand for rehabilitation services and the shortage of facilities that provide such service. Likewise, through the study and analysis of the principles of sensorial architecture, to be able to obtain the necessary tools to develop a proposal of spaces destined to the rehabilitation that contribute with the improvement and recovery of the patients. To this end, principles such as: the use of colours and textures, spatial relationships, vegetation, contrast, natural light, among others, will be used, enhancing the perception of the space and stimulating the senses as a whole; in such a way that the patient's stay will be a playful and pleasant experience as opposed to a hard and difficult process. / Trabajo de investigación

La necesidad de un espacio de culto para la comunidad siempre ha sido un factor vital para el desarrollo de la misma. Hecho que puede ser corroborado mediante el estudio de las diversas culturas que han existido a lo largo de la historia en el planeta. Tomando como punto de partida la premisa anterior, es que se justifica el presente proyecto, el cual busca satisfacer la demanda de un espacio para la comunión de los creyentes dado que, con el constante crecimiento de esta comunidad en la zona, los espacios actualmente usados para este propósito cada vez se ven con mayores dificultades para albergarlos a todos. Además, el proyecto no solo buscará ser un lugar de reunión para la comunidad evangélica, sino que también brindará espacios para el uso y apoyo de la comunidad, teniendo como base el rol de la comunidad cristiana como un agente de ayuda para su entorno Finalmente, para el desarrollo de la propuesta se hará un énfasis en la implementación de conceptos de arquitectura sensorial en los espacios religiosos, debido a que se considera que es un concepto compatible con la tipología presentada. Y se estudiará la arquitectura local, poniendo especial importancia en las edificaciones históricas como lo es el Templo del Sol, para así respetar el lenguaje arquitectónico histórico de la zona. / The need for a space of worship for the community has always been a vital factor for the development of it. A fact that can be corroborated through the study of the diverse cultures that have existed throughout history on the planet. Taking as a starting point the previous premise, is that the present project is justified, which seeks to satisfy the demand for a space for the communion of the believers given that with the constant growth of this community in the area, the spaces currently used for This purpose is increasingly seen with greater difficulties to accommodate them all. In addition, the project will not only seek to be a meeting place for the evangelical community, but also provide spaces for the use and support of the community, based on the role of the Christian community as an agent of help for their environment. Finally, for the development of the proposal an emphasis will be placed on the implementation of sensory architecture concepts in religious spaces, because it is considered to be a concept compatible with the presented typology. El tema del siguiente proyecto de tesis es un centro de salud mental en Lima, Perú. El principal motivo de elección de este tema es el enfoque y exploración que se le puede dar en el campo de la arquitectura. ¿Es posible facilitar el proceso de recuperación de una enfermedad psicológica mediante la ayuda de la arquitectura sensorial? El objetivo de esta tesis es hacer un centro de salud mental que responda más adecuadamente a las necesidades de sus usuarios en la actualidad, para que esta funcione como un centro de reinserción y no de aislamiento. Paralelamente, por medio de esta investigación, se buscará hacer un aporte a la tipología existente a través de la arquitectura sensorial, basado en teorías y estudios, tanto científicos como arquitectónicos, acerca del espacio y su relación sensorial y emocional con las personas, proponiendo un tipo de ‘terapia espacial’ que, sin buscar querer ser una cura universal, mejore y potencie el funcionamiento principal de la tipología, la rehabilitación de sus pacientes. / The subject of the following thesis project is a mental health center in Lima, Peru. The main reason for choosing this topic is the approach and exploration that can be given in the field of architecture. Is it possible to facilitate the recovery process of a psychological illness through the help of sensory architecture? The objective of this thesis is to create a mental health center that responds more adequately to the needs of its users at present, so that it functions as a center of reintegration and not of isolation. In parallel, through this research, it will be sought to make a contribution to the existing typology through sensory architecture, based on theories and studies, both scientific and architectural, about space and its sensory and emotional relationship with people, proposing a ‘space therapy’ that, without seeking to be a ‘universal cure’, improve and enhance the main functioning of the typology, the rehabilitation of its patients. / Tesis

La presente investigación tiene como objetivo analizar y determinar todos los aspectos prioritarios para la ejecución del diseño de un Centro Educativo Especial para niños y jóvenes con Discapacidad Intelectual. Para la elaboración de este documento se tomaron como premisas a desarrollar, el factor formativo, la data estadística, aspectos históricos de la tipología nacional e internacional, criterios normativos, investigaciones psicológicas y estados actuales sobre los Centros Educativos en nuestro país. En esa relación, se pudo determinar el perfil de cada usuario y sus necesidades, con la conclusión de llegar a un aspecto arquitectónico que podría presentar el Centro Educativo como énfasis del proyecto. Posteriormente, se realizó el análisis del lugar a nivel macro y micro, el cual logra determinar aportes favorables para el proyecto y de igual manera cómo el proyecto aportaría urbanísticamente y socialmente a su entorno. En esa misma relación se culmina llegando a una aproximación del diseño arquitectónico en base a todos los criterios ya aportados y analizados / The present research aims to analyze and determine all the priority aspects for the design execution of a Special Education Center for children and young people with Intellectual Disabilities. For the preparation of this document, the training factor, statistical data, historical aspects of the national and international typology, normative criteria, psychological research and current state of the Educational Centers in our country were taken as premises to be developed. In that sense, the profile of each user and their needs could be determined, with the conclusion of reaching an architectural aspect that the Educational Center could present as an emphasis of the project. Subsequently, the analysis of the place was carried out at a macro and micro level, which manages to determine favorable contributions to the project and in the same way, how the project would contribute urbanistically and socially to their environment.
