Kuriama programinė įrangą sumaniesiems telefonams naudos bylų siuntimo protokolą – FTP. Ji leis vartotojui nuotoliniu būdu naršyti interneto tiekėjo talpyklos ir namų kompiuterio katalogus taip pat paprastai kaip ir sumaniojo telefono vidinės atminties katalogus. Kuriama programinė įranga taip pat leis vartotojams labiau išnaudoti sumaniųjų telefonų galimybes bei skatins programinės įrangos, skirtos darbui su įvairiomis bylomis vartojimą. Darbo tikslas - sukurti FTP protokolą naudojančią programinę įrangą, skirtą sumaniesiems telefonams, leisiančią naršyti nutolusių bylų talpyklų katalogus ir patogiai siųsti bylas. Darbe analizuozajama analogiška programinė įranga, nagrinėjamos J2ME programavimo kalbos galimybės, FTP protokolo veikimas. Tyrimo objektas – sukurti FTP protokolą naudojančią klientinę programinę įrangą, skirtą sumaniesiems telefonams. Darbe pateikiama programinės įrangos sudėtis, reikalavimai programinei įrangai, statiniai bei dinaminiai kuriamos sistemos vaizdai, testavimo rezultatai, prototipo vartotojo dokumentaija. / In recent years smart phones became efficient enough to run many aplications. Their endless posibilities are only limited by the lack of software. New smart phones lack of good software to download files, as a result downloading files using internet connection is inconveniant. The aim of this job is to build software which is able to use FTP to download files from home or public servers. Achieving this goal required analysis of exsicting software, user needs, specification of requirements. Abstract system model was made using UML diagrams. Software was developed using J2ME programming language. Testing software alowed to repair errors and optimize its work. Developed software could be used as additional value for smart phone users from internet providers. J2ME language alows to do easy updates and modifications to software. Newest JM2E technology and additional optional packages allowed to develope fast working and easy to use software.

O valstybės strategijose e.verslo ir informacinių komunikacijos technologijų plėtra numatoma kaip prioritetas. Todėl aktualu ištirti vartotojų poreikį išmaniųjų mobilių paslaugų teikimui. Darbo tikslas yra išnagrinėti išmaniųjų mobilių paslaugų teikimo infrastruktūrą, valdymą ir galimybes verslo plėtrai. Patikrinti suderinamumą su nurodytomis politinėmis strategijomis. Evaluation of Nutritional Quality Through a Counselor Administered Weight Loss Program Utilizing a Smart Phone App

abstract: ABSTRACT This study evaluated the LoseIt Smart Phone app by Fit Now Inc. for nutritional quality among users during an 8 week behavioral modification weight loss protocol. All participants owned smart phones and were cluster randomized to either a control group using paper and pencil record keeping, a memo group using a memo function on their smart phones, or the LoseIt app group which was composed of the participants who owned iPhones. Thirty one participants completed the study protocol: 10 participants from the LoseIt app group, 10 participants from the memo group, and 11 participants from the paper and pencil group. Food records were analyzed using Food Processor by ESHA and the nutritional quality was scored using the Healthy Eating Index - 2005 (HEI-2005). Scores were compared using One-Way ANOVA with no significant changes in any category across all groups. Non-parametric statistics were then used to determine changes between combined memo and paper and pencil groups and the LoseIt app group as the memo and paper and pencil group received live counseling at biweekly intervals and the LoseIt group did not. No significant difference was found in HEI scores across all categories, however a trend was noted for total HEI score with higher scores among the memo and paper and pencil group participants p=0.091. Conclusion, no significant difference was detected between users of the smart phone app LoseIt and memo and paper and pencil groups. More research is needed to determine the impact of in-person counseling versus user feedback provided with the LoseIt smart phone app. / Dissertation/Thesis / M.S. Nutrition 2011

Embora leitores de smart cards (também conhecidos como CAD – Card Acceptance Device) estejam populares e venham sendo utilizados, como é possível constatar, por exemplo, na Receita Federal e na Justiça Superior, a grande maioria os leitores de cartões inteligentes atualmente disponíveis funcionam apenas ligados a computadores pessoais. A grande popularização de tablets e telefones celulares inteligentes (ou smart phones) tem gerado uma forte tendência de utilização destes dispositivos móveis para a realização de transações eletrônicas como compras, transferências bancárias, envio de e-mails e outros. Dessa forma, é desejável assinar documentos digitalmente, através de um certificado digital armazenado em um cartão inteligente, a partir de um dispositivo móvel, como por exemplo, um celular. Este trabalho apresenta o projeto e implementação de um dispositivo leitor e escritor portátil de cartões inteligentes, denominado SCREADMOD (Smart Card Reader for Mobile Devices). Ele foi desenvolvido para ser acoplado e/ou utilizado de forma integrada com objetos inteligentes (celulares, computadores pessoais, tablets PC?s, etc.), que possam se comunicar utilizando a tecnologia de comunicação sem fios Bluetooth. Para demonstrar a viabilidade técnica do protótipo, um exemplo de aplicativo que executa sobre o sistema operacional móvel Android foi desenvolvido.

Monitoring Heart Rate with Common Market Smart-phones for Identifying Potential Signs that may Lead to Sudden Death

Context: Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) is a phenomenon in which new-born-infants die, often during sleeping, and no cause of death is identified after the autopsy and examination. Assumptions can be made in order to understand what happened to the infant, e.g. heart failures and insufficient breathing rate due to the position of the infant, although deeper studies are hard to be performed, since recording real-cases of sudden infant death on camera is not so trivial. Objectives: Our main objective with the work hereby presented is to perform a study on practical issues that may arise when one is contemplating to build a mobile application for monitoring the heart rate of individuals. These issues may include the levels of accuracy of heart rate measurements that can be retrieved by the current technology, best room conditions for the application to work and positioning of the device in respect to the subject under monitoring. Our secondary objective with this work is to present a heart rate monitor prototype application at a conceptual level. Methods: We conducted a literature review and an analysis of the current available technology, approaches and applications for smart-phones. We conducted experiments on a controlled environment by taking heart rate measurements and comparing results obtained from one smart phone application with results obtained with one standard electrocardiogram tool. After gathering the outputs of the experiments, we analyzed the patterns with the ultimate goal to identify the best set of parameters for the application to work. Results: Our main achievements were obtained through the data that we collected. Although related this work with SIDS, we collected data from adults. The procedures for obtaining the Heart Rate with the application analyze the skin of an individual and, thus, it does not matter if it is an infant or adult. We identified relevant parameters that affect directly the performance of the application, leading it to malfunction. Finally, we proposed a prototype of a mobile heart rate monitoring, that we named The Mobile Heart Rate Monitoring System (MHRMS) at a conceptual level, adding-up functionality to the existing technology and also outlining the best conditions and positioning for it to work correctly. Conclusions: The main conclusion that we reached is that it is reasonable to make use of the current technology that are available in today’s smart phones for having a trustworthy heart rate monitoring tool.

Usability Evaluation of Smart Phone Application Store

In this study, the usability of smart phone application store app is evaluated. The study was performed on different smart phone operating systems. Data about usability was gathered through surveys and think aloud based experiment. Anova analysis was also performed on data to identify significant issues. A lot of smartphone users reported issues with installing, locating and searching about apps. Many users had issues with uninstalling of apps and navigating the search results when looking for apps. The smartphone operating system and the app store does not provide seamless navigation and alot of content is not tailored for smart phone users.

The theoretical part discusses the issue of modernization of education, including the presentation of the Ministry of Education document Strategy digital education by 2020. Furthermore in the context of theoretical analyzed in detail the different types of modern technology and the last chapter of this part of this thesis deals with current projects, which are designed to support the modernization of education. In the empirical part of this thesis, analyzes a survey carried out among teachers of business subject at secondary schools and pupils at a secondary school as well. The aim of this section is to use the survey to determine attitudes of teachers and students to modern technologies. And then also examine the possibilities of new modern technologies in teaching business subjects.

Research on Smart Phone Interfaces for Older User with Vision Decreases in China

This master thesis project studies behavior and actions of older users in China, with emphasis on the influence of vision decrease on older peopleʼs using experience. Related data was collected through the action research process and user behavior was studied. The project can be divided into two parts: user study and action research. In the user study section, user problems were posed and studied thoroughly with three user investigation methods: questionnaire, interview and ethnographic observation. Analysis was then carried out according to the study outcomes. Based on the user study results, action research direction was elicited to mainly focus on three aspects: font and icon study, as well as touch-screen interaction pattern research. Contextual inquiry was adopted as the primary research method; “Text-in-screen” prototype; “Look and feel” prototype and the platform iOS were used as tools to complete the research. At the end, explicit criteria of fonts and icons that better suits older users with poor vision was established and usersʼ adaptability for touch-screen smart phone system was explored.

Using a smartphone on the move: do visual constraints explain why we slow walking speed?

Yes / Viewing one’s smartphone whilst walking commonly leads to a slowing of walking. Slowing walking-speed may occur because of safety concerns or because of visual constraints. We determine how walking-induced phone motion affects the ability to read on-screen information. Phone-reading performance (PRP) was assessed whilst participants walked on a treadmill at various speeds. The fastest speed was repeated, wearing an elbow-brace (Braced) or with the phone mounted stationary (Fixed). An audible cue (‘text-alert’), indicated participants had 2 seconds to lift/view the phone and read aloud a series of digits. PRP was the number of digits read correctly. Each condition was repeated 5 times. 3D-motion analyses determined phone-motion relative to the head, from which the variability in acceleration in viewing distance, and in the gaze angles in the up-down and right-left directions were assessed. A main-effect of condition indicated PRP decreased with walking speed; particularly so for the Braced and Fixed conditions (p=0.022).
