Nordström, Carin January 2008 (has links)
For it to work it takes that the message is understood to them we direct it to. Unfortunately, the communication fails because the message is misunderstood, interpreted wrongly or that the people we communicate with, do not want this relation.</p><p>In this study, I have identified and analysed how Habia Cables communication network is structured, since they claim that their communication is catastrophic.</p><p>Habia Cable is one of Europe largest manufacture of specialized cable. Their largest customers are found in telecommunications, nuclear, defends and other industries.</p><p>In Sweden, they are located in two different places, one in Upplands Väsby and one in Söderfors, it is also here where the main manufacturing are done. They have 220 employees and the turn over where 565 MSEK in 2006.</p><p>The central question of this study where to identify:</p><p>• How the communication network at Habia Cable is structured</p><p>• Where the top management are located in the communications network?</p><p>• Which of the employees that have a centralized role in the company, and if there are any central groups</p><p>• Which employees that have a very vague or are lacking a communication network</p><p>I used questionnaires to gather information needed for this study together with a Social Network Analysis. My intension was to get a complete picture of the communication network. I performed a survey, in which all-220 employees where asked to fill in a form. In the form, they where asked to acknowledge who they knew out of all the 220 employees. My wish where to get 176 answerers; I got 190 - 86% which fulfilled my requirements. From the collected data, I received different case-by-case relations, which in the analysis could give information about how their communication network was structured.</p><p>From the findings and analysis, I could see that the communication could be much better at Habia Cable. Only 24% had any form of contact and 26%, of these 24% said that the contact they had within the company where of large importance. With that said, 61% knew of each other and there where over 106.000 workgroups. This leaves me to believe that the communication do work, but in a more private matter. Therefore, the company need to work more on how they communicate and what the message is all about. The message should be told to the recipient in his way.</p><p>My suggestions for Habia Cable is to keep analyse and go deeper into the communication network. I would also recommend them to analyse the group constellations and which people that have a more powerful position.</p><p>By doing the study, I have learnt a lot in questionnaires and communication networks. I have also learnt that these surveys take time and that it is a lot of work writing them in to the database, a work I am not designed for.</p>

Engagemang och tillit gentemot organisation : En kvalitativ fallstudie bland tjänstemän inom SNA Europe, deras upplevelser kring engagemang och påverkande faktorer / Engagement and organizational trust : A qualitative case study of officials within SNA Europe, their experiences of engagement and influencing factors

Johansson, Elias, Henriksson, Herman January 2020 (has links)
Maintaining a high level of engagement among employees within the organization should in today's society be seen as an important prerequisite for maintaining efficiency and being competitive. Previous research and own observations have indicated trust in the organization that the employee works for as a potential influencing factor for perceived engagement. The purpose of this study is to explain how officials within global manufacturing organization feel that their engagement is affected by trust towards the organization. In order to answer the purpose of the study, we conducted a qualitative case study within SNA Europe, with semi-structured interviews as a method for data collection and with officials as a clear investigation unit. After collecting data, we conducted a thematic empirical analysis, where we allowed themes to emerge based on empirical data. This is to access the actual experiences of the officials and not to limit the quality of the results.   The study's analysis and results then identify four core themes: the organization does the right things, organizational structure, leadership and communication and information. These are then broken down into subcategories to capture all its different parts of the officials' experiences. Three main components within the category of trust are thereby emerging, which the officials experience affect the engagement, and which thus helps us to answer the purpose of the study. These three components are the organization doing the right things, organizational structure and leadership as well as communication and information.   The conclusion then states that trust, understanding and confidence in the surroundings are crucial components of the engagement of the officials. It also emerges that these perceived components of trust that affect engagement in this particular case operate in a complex relationship with each other.

The search for differentiation and for the development of competitive advantages resides on the ability of organizations to capitalize knowledge. Most of the times, these knowledge is embedded into the mind of employees, who are frequently geographically dispersed. In this context, communities of practice arise as a solution, providing knowledge sharing and building. The dissertation theme is social network structures in communities of practice. The main objective is to identify how the characteristics of the social network structures affect the development of communities of practice, having as an study object three of Gerdau’s communities of practice. In its theoretical foundation the study addresses issues such as social learning, communities of practice and social networks. With an exploratory character and a qualitative-quantitative nature, the case study used Social Networks Analysis, documentary analysis and semi-structured interviews, providing data triangulation. Among the research results are a set of constructs formed by: members interaction, engagement, formal roles, members profile, centralization and clusters. The identification of these constructs provides theoretical contribution, as the theme of communities of practice is still little explored in the light of social networks. Besides, research results show that the characteristics of the social network structures in communities of practice affects significantly it’s development and that analyzing communities of practice under the bias of the constructs allows the identification of action opportunities, contributing to its management and development.

Social networks and urban Aboriginal organizations: building social capital in the electronic age

Myhre, Brian Lawrence 12 September 2013 (has links)
This dissertation examines how social capital arises in eight socially networked urban Aboriginal organizations in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Two research methods are used. The “network centrality” of each organizational leader and their overall “social solidarity” within the total network spanning all eight organizations is determined using Social Network Analysis (SNA). SNA results indicate two distinct types of organizations and leadership. Detailed information on characteristics of these organizations and their leaders is derived from a thematic analysis of transcriptions of twenty-five hours of consultant interviews, supplemented by field notes based on over three hundred hours of participant-observation. Findings indicate that the eight Aboriginal organizations studied form two distinct network alliances (“band based” and “hybrid”). Band-based organizations tend to focus on clients from First Nations reserve communities, rely largely on federal funding, and adopt an institutional style of leadership. The leaders of them tend to rely on strong social ties supported by face-to-face communication. Hybrid organizations tend to focus on urban Aboriginal populations, rely on funding mostly from sources other than the federal government, and adopt a grassroots (and institutional) style of administration. Their leaders rely on a balance of strong and weak social ties; the latter mediated by computer-mediated-communication (CMC) technologies. Conclusions suggest that CMC technologies enable Aboriginal leaders to broker effective and innovative partnerships that better distribute services, responsibilities and costs. The Internet is the most vital social networking tool currently available for stimulating and supporting collective action. Regardless of their propinquity, people are using email and other Internet services to build friendships and allegiances, and to access important information, social contacts and services that enable the development of more effective social capital and community development practices among Aboriginal people living in Winnipeg.

A Mapping of Intra Research Park Networking Toward Efficient Utilization of Social Capital in Science Driven Innovation

Masuda, Noriyuki January 2015 (has links)
This  thesis  contributes  to  the  advancement  on  the  network  view  of  social  capital andentrepreneurship, focusing on science-based innovation by observatory social network research. The study has conducted a survey to construct a network map of and network attitudes in Zulu science park (alias name) located in Sweden. The analysis showed that there were relatively positive expectations to utilize network more effectively and  efficiently in their business activity with respect to sharing of research skills and resources, as well as social exchange in particular. Currently, the science park seems not yet to take advantage of the potential momentum of the respondents or bottom-up initiatives where tenants maintain the environment mutually under trust. I discuss the merits and challenges in such resource and knowledge sharing in the business development support and governance as a new way of unique business incubator and science-park management, focusing on networking.
