Salvador

Idade com fator de risco para gravidade e complicações nos acidentes botrópicos atendidos no Hospital Vital Brazil do Instituto Butantan/SP / Age as a predictor of severity and complication on snakebites accidents of the genus Bothrops, admitted at Hospital Vital Brazil/Instituto Butantan/SP

Franco, Marília Miranda 03 April 2006 (has links)
Some studies propose that the level of severity of the accidents caused by snakes in children can be associated with a stronger envenoming and a higher risk of later complication if compared to the same accidents in adults. This retrospective study aim to describe the caracteristics of snakebites acidents of the genus Bothrops, and compare their severities, necessity of antivenom, and the risk of developing later complications between children (less than 13 years) and adults, all the accidents where admitted at Hospital Vital Brazil/Instituto Butantan/SP, Brazil (HVB). This retrospective cohort study was carried out by using HVB\'s records of snakebite victims, from December 1999 to June 2003. Patients included were those who brought the snake and/or have the clinical or laboratorial presence of abnormalities compatible with Bothrops envenoming. No statistic differences were found between the two groups of this study concerning the severity of envenoming, number of antivenom vials and the frequency of complications. This study suggests that snakebite accidents are similar between adults and children. Age is not supposed to be a predictor of complication in such accidents

The liofilized venoms were diluted in 1 ml saline and administrated subcutaneously into four sheep. Three of the animals died, and the one that received 0. 5mg/kg (B. jararaca) recovered. Clinical signs were observed from 7 minutes to 1 hours after inoculation. The evolution period varied from 7 hours and 9 minutes up to 21 hours and 59 minutes. The symptoms, independent of the dosage, were swelling (hemorrhage/oedema) of the inoculation site, increased bleeding time and capillary filling; tachycardia, dyspnea, hipocorated mucous membranes and diminished reaction to external stimuli in some animals. Laboratory exam revealed pronounced normocytic and normochromic anemia, trombocytopenia, slight reduction of fibrogen and total plasmatic protein, diminished hematocrit in too animals, besides pronounced increase of the creatinaquinase and lactic dehydrogenase. The main findings at necropsy were large hemorrhagic or oedema areas in the subcutaneous tissue of the inoculation site. Besides hemorrhages/oedema, the main histopathologic alteration was hyalinization of muscle fibers and vessels, most severe at the inoculation site. This study it was seen, that the swelling at the inoculation site and adjacency was due to blood, for B. jararaca venom and oedema, for B. jararacussu venom.

Börspsykologiska bias & Diversifiering : En kvantitativ studie om privatinvesterares beteende under Covid-19 / Psychological biases & Diversification : A quantitative study about private investors'behavior during Covid-19

Lindström, Anton, Sara-Joyce, Jonsson January 2022 (has links)
Background: The Corona pandemic has affected people’s everyday life as well as the financial markets. The big decline in the stock market that happened in February-March 2020 and the record fast recovery impacted private investors in a big way. Investors had difficult decisions to make during times of stress and worry, which does not always lead to optimal decisions. The investors could be more affected by biases during times of crisis. To avoid walking into the same traps again it is of investor’s interest to map psychological biases and how they affect the diversification in their stock portfolios. Eventual differences in behavior between the stock market decline in February-Mars and the one in October could be spotted by comparing the two periods. This would show if the respondents themselves learned from the first stock market decline to the second one, hence changing their behavior. Purpose: The purpose of this study is to map private investors’ behavior in the stock market during the Corona pandemic. This will make it possible to discuss private investors’ behavior during the stock market declines in February-March 2020 as well as the one in October the same year. This will make it possible to see differences in behavior. Method: The study used a survey study with cross-sectional design to be able to discuss private investors’ behavior at a general level. Conclusion: The study has shown that all studied psychological biases to affect private investors during the stock market declines, showing there are differences between these periods. If the respondents describe their own actions, then many of say themselves that they acted rational during the crisis, something that previous studies have shown. The diversification has also increased after the stock market declines compared to how it was at the end of 2019, but it is not certain that it is an effect of the stock market declines. There are also differences between demographic factors and experience from previous crises with regards to psychological biases and diversification.
