Cultural and Social Factors Impacting on the Programme to Prevent-Mother-To-Child-Transmission (PMTCT) of HIV in Namibia : A Case Study of the Kavango Region

Shirungu, Michael M.J. January 2010 (has links)

This study focuses on socio-cultural issues, which affect Kavango women&rsquo / s decision to participate in the PMTCT programme. It investigates the treatment methods used by HIV-positive pregnant women for themselves and their unborn babies, neonatally, during pregnancy and after delivery, particularly in relation to the prevention of transmission of HIV. The thesis further investigates whether women choose alternative services such as traditional healers for medical attention during pregnancy, birth and post-natally. The research aims to establish and describe the role of local notions and practices concerning anti-retrovirals on the aforementioned programme. Ethnographic and thus qualitative research methods were used to gather and analyze data. I spent three months working as a nurse in two health facilities that offer PMTCT in Rundu, Kavango. I also held semi-structured and open-ended interviews, formal and informal discussions, formal and informal focus groups with nurses, community counselors, pregnant women, women who had recently given birth in the health care facility and traditional health care practitioners. In the case of the latter, I utilized narratives of healing to understand their perception of HIV/AIDS, their beliefs and practices as well as their healing methods. Furthermore, I employed other informal conversations outside the formal research participants. The study shows that there is a paucity of partner involvement and in some cases women have to first seek permission from their partner before enrolling into the programme. My research findings further indicate that women utilized various traditional herbal medicines for themselves and their babies as part of their cultural beliefs and practices. It was evident that some of these, such as Likuki, affect women&rsquo / s participation in and adherence to the protocols of the PMTCT programme.

Stankevičienė, Laima 24 September 2008 (has links)
Temos aktualumas. 2000 m. Creative industries development in regional Queensland

Doneman, Michael January 2006 (has links)
Creative industries have significance in considerations of regional development because of their potential for both social-cultural and political-economic benefit. This is especially the case in Indigenous communities, given the potential of traditional and contemporary cultural expression for industry development and employment. This research set out to explore and evaluate an action research approach to creative industries development in regional contexts, stimulated by a research initiative of Queensland's Department of State Development in cooperation with Queensland University of Technology's Creative Industries Research and Applications Centre. It is based on an analysis of seven pilot projects undertaken between 2002 and 2004, most of which involved Indigenous participation and which gave rise to consideration of the additional value of Indigenist research perspectives. The research found that an action research methodology, informed by Indigenist research values, can assist creative enterprise development in a regional context through the development of new businesses or by value-adding to existing businesses, and the consequent generation and exploitation of new intellectual property. In this process, it found that there is an emerging role for the creative entrepreneur, such a role arising from the practices of community cultural development and social-cultural animation.

Proposta de infra-estrutura sócio-cultural essencial em organizações virtuais / Proposal of the essential social-cultural substructure to support the participation of enterprises in virtual organizations

Luciane Meneguin Ortega 05 December 2001 (has links)
The actual fast dynamic in the business impose of the enterprises more flexibility and so an inquiry for organizational solutions to make this enterprises competitivities. Les comédiennes-chanteuses à Madrid au XVIIIè siècle (1700-1767). Étude socio-culturelle / Comedian-singers in Madrid during the XVIIIth Century (1700-1767). Socio-cultural study

Bec, Caroline 08 December 2012 (has links)
During the first half of the XVIIIth century in Spain, particularly in Madrid, principal place of residence of the Court and capital of the Kingdom, various historical, cultural and artistic factors engendered an evolution of the profession of comedienne towards a more specialized lyrical interpretation. In each company, the number of comedienne-singers regularly increased, their remit becoming little by little more defined, until they reached the exclusive stage of interpreting musical dramatizations in Spanish. Consequently, the new position attributed from then on to the comediennes-singers altered their existence, their training and the practice of their art. Moreover, the presence of Italian opera singers in Madrid between 1737 and 1759 re-oriented the evolution of the role of Spanish singers. In a historical and social perspective focused on the period 1700-1767, this study considers initially the origins and private life of these artists in the Villa y Corte, then the different aspects of their professional life and finally their position in the Madrid society and, more widely, in the Spanish society, as well as the way they were considered by their contemporaries.

Friluftsliv för Alla? : exploring and hacking our accessibility to the outdoors

Mausch, Anna Marleen January 2021 (has links)
When we are outdoors we rely on the things we bring. By questioning, if the outdoors are freely accessible and detached from our capitalistic world, I identified that to- day’s outdoor equipment industry is not only enjoying great popularity, but is also having the tendency to stay in its comfort zone, mainly engaging in ecological spheres of sustainability. With my bachelor’s thesis project, Friluftsliv för Alla?, I had the aim to initiate a shift, to broaden one’s mind, and to put a focus beyond the sustainability indicator of a product. Together with my collaborator ‘Friluftsfrämjandet’, a Swedish outdoor association, I shared concerns about social-cultural sustainability in the area of outdoor recreation, and started to look at the people who are in need of gear. An item that sparked a lot of my interest was the indispensable shelter, that is needed when we want to spend a good amount of time outside in nature. With the help of my sponsors and other stakeholders I was able to craft a fully functioning tent, that is supposed to be used and shared unconditionally.
