Algemo Bergfeldt, Hanna, Sundling Ahlin, Josefin January 2016 (has links)
This paper concerns the subject of temporary employments and how the employment status affects the personal life of the employee. The aspects of the personal life which are being investigated is the employees possibilities to plan their long term future as well as their short term future. Furthermore, the employees social relations and spare time are being investigated. The paper is qualitative and is based on semi-structured interviews with four people between the age of 25 and 35 who are experienced with temporary employment. The results of the interviews are analyzed in light of Richard Sennetts theory about ”The corrosion of character”, which shows upon a contradiction between the character-building and today's job market. The conclusions are that the employees possibilities concerning long term planning, as well as short term planning, is aggravated by their temporary employment status. Their spare time seems to become less extensive and the time devoted to the social relationships decreases. However, we can not draw any conclusions on the social relations patterns affected at a deeper level.

The purpose of this degree project is to investigate in what types of situations and to what extent some upper secondary students write in English in their spare time, what reasons they have for doing so and what text types and genres are represented in their writing. Qualitative interviews were carried out with a group of six students in year two in an upper secondary school in the southern part of Sweden, three with MVG as a final grade and three with VG as a final grade in English A.The results show that all of the students write in English each day in instant text messages on MSN messenger. However, they mostly use English in the form of abbreviations, single words, phrases and sentences. Longer pieces of text, like poems and other literary pieces, written in English were created only by the three students with MVG.

The rapid digital development has transformed our lives, and today we can work in new ways compared to before. With an increased demand for flexible work arrangements, where the home serves as a workplace, it is crucial for companies to understand how this affects the well-being of employees. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to examine how the possibility of work flexibility promotes individuals well-being. Previous research points out several factors that can influence well-being during remote work, including the work environment, the balance between work and private life, and interaction. The theoretical framework of the study is primarily based on Karasek and Theorell's demand-control-support model (1990), but in specific sections, support will also be drawn from studies by Kangas et al. (2023) and Espersson et al. (2023) using the concepts of Family-supportive supervisor behaviors and urholkade sociala relationer. The study is based on qualitative interviews conducted with employees in various units at Västerås municipality who work part-time at the physical workplace and part-time remotely. The results show that remote work is significant, especially for employees work-life balance, which positively impacts their well-being. What is really important for well-being is the ability to manage and plan worktasks on your own, no matter where you're working.

Listening comprehension : Digital technology and its effect on the L2 learner’s listening comprehension.Larsson, Sofi, Lundberg, Ove January 2019 (has links)
The rapid development of new technologies and how these are affecting school age children is in this day and age an area of growing importance. In the context of second language (L2) acquisition, it has been noted that spare time activities of a digital nature impact those pupils who spend more time on activities such as online gaming in the target language than average (Sundqvist 2019, 95-103). The aim of the current study was to investigate the possible effect three different digital spare time activities (computer and video games, movies and music) have on listening comprehension. This when English is the dominant language in the activities, and the focus is on 6th grade children. The method used was a comparison made between a language diary homework, consisting of the participants’ estimated number of hours spent on digital spare time activities, and the results of a listening exercise. The results show that there is a positive correlation between the results of the listening comprehension test and the number of hours spent on digital spare time activities. Also, repeated exposure to the target language in a digital spare time context does, therefore, affect second language acquisition to a limited extent. The conclusion was that in order to come to a more conclusive answer regarding the correlation between digital spare time activities and English listening comprehension, more research is needed.
