The Presence of the Kingdom in the light of the Speech Act Theory (SAT) : an ethical inquiry

Cho, Anna 12 1900 (has links)
Thesis (MTh)--Stellenbosch University, 2015. / ENGLISH ABSTRACT: This thesis relates Christian ethics to the presence of the kingdom of God in Jesus’ sayings and to its real meaning and application by reconsidering the religious language of the kingdom of God from the perspective of the Speech Act Theory (SAT). In SAT, the Christian ethical approach to the presence of the kingdom in Jesus’ sayings is not only aimed at reconstructing meanings of the ethics of the kingdom in the form of a propositional morality theme. It also aims at reconstructing the Christian life as the performance of the ethics of the kingdom in daily life, that is, in terms of the presence of God’s kingdom in Jesus’ utterances and its witness. Christians do not merely assert certain facts about God’s sovereignty or God’s kingdom; they address God in the act of committing themselves to God’s kingdom and applying their minds to its righteousness. Since Christian ethics depends on the message of the kingdom proclaimed by Jesus, the essence of interpretation in Christian ethics is therefore to recognize the illocutionary act in the Bible. In SAT, only illocution is able to determine meaning and to act. It also creates the perlocutionary act as an appropriate response in the believer such as trust or obedience. The living Triune God is still speaking to us through Scripture – not in past stories but in the present in order to fulfil God’s will and God’s kingdom. This indicates that Jesus’ preaching about the kingdom of God focuses on what we should do or how we should live as Christians. The Bible is not supposed to be interpreted only in an academic context but should also be performed by the people of God. Consequently, the Christian community should try to discover the momentum and function of the text in order to build up the people of God to live in the world and to participate in the activities of the kingdom of God, not as spectators but as active participants in the present world. It also tells us who God is, and how we ought to live in relation to that God. Christian communities are called to institute policies that alter the settings in which the interpretation of Scripture takes place. In this way, Christian ethics can map out a new moral sensibility and specific directions through the presence of the kingdom of God in the light of SAT.

"Simbolių kalba" / "Speach of simbols"

Neciunskaitė, Kristina 02 September 2010 (has links)
My thesis topic: "Speech of symbols" Four collection of works, which on the basis of symbols, interpretations presented in its own way at the crossroads of different cultures, artistic statement. A symbol is like one forms of language. They symbolize the infinite life, the universe and the perpetuation of harmony, it was thought that they had supernatural powers and made the aesthetic effect. I tried to implement all your creative ideas from a variety of archaic characters and white art from other cultures and minerals. The final work consists of two parts: theoretical and practical creative work. The theoretical part of the workflow presented their interpretations of the analysis, the idea of searching, performance techniques and the practical pedagogical work. The practical part consists of four creative collection works (125x73cm) to the mixed graphics technology on a sheet of cardboard.

Os atos de fala nos textos instrucionais: uma proposta de leitura a partir da perspectiva interlocutiva / Speach acts in instructional texts: a reading proposal from the interlocutive perspective

Hilma Ribeiro de Mendonça Ferreira 27 March 2013 (has links)
A pesquisa mostrou a existência da relação entre a forma como sentidos são assumidos e as atitudes de instruir e acatar dos indivíduos, a partir das frases usadas nos textos para instruir / Texts of instructional character have as common feature the settlement of specific procedures, determined by the speaker, who intends to bring his/her counterpart to a determined purpose related to the use of the genres approached by both of them. The task execution by the involved individuals is a determining issue to the achievement of their usage purposes. However, while predisposing these procedures in the textual level, discrepancies concerning the way the tasks are informed arise, evidencing a greater or lesser rigidity concerning the imposing level of procedures. In the interest of analyzing the ways these specificities affect reading meaning-making, four instructional-character texts were selected, namely: recipe, bulla, users guide and contract. Through the study of the mentioned genres we verify the predisposition of the related procedures, proposed essentially by imperative and declarative sentences. This dissertation intends to assemble the linguistic markers of the examined texts, inherent to procedure sentences with conversational factors assumed by the theory of speech acts. In order to do so, it is verified the theoretical approach given by the following authors: Austin (1962), Searle (2002), Said Ali (1964), Bechara (1977), Cunha (1978), Rocha Lima(1976) e Azeredo (2011) . Therefore, this investigation intends to portray an analysis of textual and conversational elements within the discursive composition of the chosen statements. The research has shown the existence of a relationship between how meanings are made and the attitudes of instructing and obey by the individuals, from the phrases used in the texts to instruct

Du tri à l'autre : éthique et médecine d'urgence / From triage to other : ethics and emergency medicine

Valette, Pierre 01 December 2011 (has links)
How to approach medical ethics at the time of the great confusion between business ethics, morals, ethics, ethics of biomedicine, applied ethics, ethics of care, meta-ethics, bioethics ...? Perhaps by a return "to the things themselves" as Husserl would have said, a return to medicine itself to find in its “nest” the ethics of medicine and not the fabricated ethics that would ultimately and definitively become ethics for medicine.A particular type of practice, emergency medicine, allows to study the procedure, its power and its updates (in the sense that these terms are in Aristotle) and its intersections with the technical movement. What is a medical procedure, what is a technical movement and how can we distinguish them? Also, how can we recognize an act without a gesture and a gesture without an act? It's the doctor, author of the act, that makes the act a medical procedure. Even when the technical gesture covers an entire act, it can only be distinguished from the medical procedure if the applicant is not a doctor, doctor being intended not in the statutory sense but as in the holder of medical knowledge (episteme). The act with no gesture met in medical regulation is evidence that emergency medicine is not limited to technical moves.Like many disciplines in science policy, emergency medicine tends to transform time into space to better quantify its practice but it eventually has to face the necessity of adaptation to other medical specialties. The truth, which is reduced to mathematical accuracy, gives para-clinics the central place of medical practice, gradually separating patients away from their physician. The triage, unique exercise in mass medicine and disaster medicine, is unexpected proof of medical ethics. The categorization of victims, which is a principle of triage, is a reflection of heightened rational thought. Because thinking is sorting. The advent of third parties in the doctor-patient relationship limits medical liability, which would otherwise be unbearable. The infinite responsibility of everyone vis-à-vis the other, intensified by the role of nursing, precedes and is at the origin of freedom. The Third party makes it impossible to do the impossible for others, it forces to share. Introduced at the time of triage, it gives the opportunity to politics to be deeply rooted into ethics.

With the extinction of the secretary and the coming of the internet, the professionals in several levels had started to write e-mails, memorandum reports, and others printed matters. It is intended, from there, to point out the Management of the Corporative Speech as an essential ability in the construction of a solid career. The truncated and badly transmited entrepreneurial communication affects, indeed, the success relations. To acquire this ability, sociohistorical elements were searched and some Portuguese language´s lexical, grammatical, textual principies were got up, with no intention of exhausting them. After all, the Portuguese language is very rich to be concentrated in only some hundreds of sheets. In the end, the attachments show real examples collected during several years / Esta dissertação investiga a importância da boa escrita na esfera corporativa.

The object of the research was to evaluate the relevance in the use of art therapy in speach therapy with regard to communicative rehabilitation and the recuperation of the elderly, capable of communicating in different situations and interactive contexts, especially if they are listened to and their needs are met, and therefore validated in their human condition. Art therapy works through the esthetic expression as a framework to help the participants in the elaboration, expression of, and dealing with their conflicts. Their articulation through speach therapy, in the management of relational and subjective dimensions, potentializes the work with the language and communication of the research participants, expanding their communication and interaction skills / A dissertação se configura como uma pesquisa em serviço, que analisa o emprego de perspectivas e técnicas da arteterapia em um programa fonoaudiológico com idosos do Ambulatório Geronto-geriátrico do Hospital do Servidor Público Municipal de São Paulo (HSPM-SP).

Gendered nation : Anglo-Scottish relations in British letters 1707-1830

Alker, Sharon 05 1900 (has links)
My dissertation argues that national tropes are continually in a state of flux as they are employed to respond to historical, socio-political and cultural events and trends, and demonstrates that their state at a specific moment encapsulates struggles between various concepts of national identity. I trace shifts in the configuration of Anglo-Scottish relations by undertaking a microanalysis of two specific recurring tropological categories - familial and homosocial tropes — in a number of key moments in cross-border relations between 1707 and 1830. The first chapter, directed at the years surrounding the Union of Parliaments, traces the suppression of cross-border dissonance in homosocial egalitarian tropes which define Anglo-Scottish relations in the work of pro-union pamphleteers, and contrasts this strategy of containment with the disruptive presence of familial tropes in the pamphlets of anti-union writers. The second chapter traces the reappearance of this conflict in the decade following Culloden. Roderick Random, written from the margins by Tobias Smollett, reveals a discomfort with unifying tropes, although it ends with a cursory gesture towards a national marital union. James Ramble, in contrast, written by the English Edward Kimber, deflects dissonance onto Jacobitism, suggesting through tropes of friendship that all aspects of Anglo-Scottish relations are seamlessly integrated into British unity. Chapters three and four foreground the 1760s, a decade in which Scottish agency, in the person of Lord Bute, the Lord Treasurer, seems to reach new heights. Yet it is also a decade of rampant Scotophobia, incited by the Wilkites to undermine Bute's authority. Tropological warfare is an important element of this rhetorical conflict. In chapters five and six, I uncover two competing concepts of Britishness, primarily created by English and Irish writers, which emerge in the 1790s. The first engages with homosocial tropes to foreground Scottish agency in nation-building and empire-building projects, but does so at the expense of a distinct Scottish culture. The second, also produced by English and Irish writers, reifies and celebrates Scottish culture through tropes of cross-border courtship, but tends to represent the emergent concept as endangered, lacking national agency. Chapter six analyzes the Scottish response to this tropological binary.
