Står berget still när vinden viner?
The year of 2020 will go down in history as a year with a lot of turbulence, it's likely to be remembered by many as one of the most agonizing years in modern times. Due to the pandemic, we have seen countries shut down completely from one day to another. The world spread disease has caused worldwide restrictions in travel patterns, physical regulations and lockdowns. This has not only changed our everyday routine, the security of the familiar, the tranquility of repetition. But it has also tested the corporate world to the limits. Organisations have been challenged both on their resilience and endurance. The need for adaptation has never been greater. To be able to survive in this uncertain world, it has been crucial for organisations to change their way of work. The purpose of this study is to explore how organisations have adapted to the variation caused by the pandemic. Contributing with knowledge explaining what have been the hardest transitions along the past year. This thesis summarizes a handful of organisations adaptations, regarding both the company's structure and their capability to be stable in a world in change. This study is based on semi structured interviews with four different organisations, three of them active in the private sector whilst the other one in the public sector. Results show that all the participating organisations have been successful in their transitions over the last year. We can conclude that there are similarities within the companies' adaptations strategies, with the biggest impact regarding the working environment and communication. In the field of quality management and quality management systems, none of the participating organisations have made any significant change. Results showing that it's the QMS that have enabled the organizations to be stable over time. A limitation of this study is a bias related to that none of the participating organisations have failed to adapt. It is possible that organisations who are not as successful, decline to participate in surveys and interviews. It may not be that attractive for an organisation to admit that they were not equipped for the dramatic changes the pandemic caused. /
2021-06-06

Architecture without Land : access to land, secured with land tenure as development strategy in critical neighbourhoods, in South AfricaLeibbrandt, Amy Elizabeth January 2018 (has links)
Architecture without Land postulates the role
of architecture without the promise of the
ownership of land. It investigates the provision of
land, secured with land tenure, as a development
strategy in critical neighbourhoods, specifi cally
Westbury, Johannesburg. It is situated within
the urban land question and opportunity of land,
characterised by continual redevelopment within
strict urban boundaries and multiplicity of use,
and addresses the fragments of apartheid city
planning, particularly the question of ownership
of land.
Title deeds are not always practical or
appropriate solutions. Fixed ownership could
stagnate the process of continual redevelopment
of land and hence of the social development in
a low income neighbourhood. The opportunity
of land tenure, as opposed to ownership, aids
fl exibility and appropriation by tenants including
the continual redevelopment of a site. Tenure of
land, allows the tenant organisation to expand,
insert or subtract their built manifestation
in relationship to their economic conditions,
reducing ineffi cient land use.
This approach responds to change in mainly two
ways; internal changeability (Architecture host to
change) and external changeability (Land host
to change). Land host to change; orders the
permanent (stable) built fabric, predetermining
structure, service and external space. Tenant
dependency on stable built fabric (architecture as
method) is articulated in a scale understanding
of facility and connection (service point). This
interaction is expressed in use of space, fi t-out,
infi ll and/or insert with the condition of easy
removal at end of use.
Access to land and space are vital to the project
as poverty is deeply spatial and ownership of
land intertwined with the legacy of apartheid.
This dissertation will focus on the appropriation
of land, tested with social infrastructure such
as early childhood development, mothers
training, shisa nyama, a medical unit supported
by affordable rental housing, hosted in a 66m
by 36m land parcel, supporting compact city
development and densifi cation in the suburb of
Westbury Johannesburg. / Mini Dissertation (MArch (Prof))--University of Pretoria, 2018. / Architecture / MArch (Prof) / Unrestricted

Stability and change in couples therapy : an action research processStrydom, Hester Maria 01 1900 (has links)
This study focuses on the cybernetic complementarity of stability and change in family
therapy. Stability and change involve both the client and therapist, and is a selfreferential
process where the observer is part of that which is observed.
One couple was involved in ten therapy sessions. During the action research cycles of
planning, acting and reflecting, the principles of systems theory, cybernetics and second
cybernetics were implemented. A team consisting of one lecturer and two students were
actively involved throughout all the phases of the research process.
During therapy, the therapist focused on stability to facilitate change in the structure of
the couple's organizational system. The research served as a good example of how
punctuation of two complementarity processes (stability and change) can enable and
empower clients to autonomously reflect on their own behaviour, and to make decisions
regarding patterns they would like or feel ready to change. / Social Science (Mental Health) / Thesis (M. Soc. Science)--University of South Africa, 2001. / M.A. (Social Science (Mental Health))

A cybernetic approach to grief : an application of the cybernetic paradigm in the field of parental loss of a childCheadle, Josephine Cornelia 01 1900 (has links)
This study sets out to demonstrate the usefulness of cybernetic description for grief therapy, specifically the field parental loss of a child. This paradigm was used to facilitate an alternate mode of conceptualisation, one engendering a more encompassing, aesthetic view. The following core cybernetic concepts were used: punctuation, complementarity, pattern and metapattern forming the framework of cybernetic description as applied.
A literature study attempting to merge the gestalt of cybernetic description with that of bereavement theory, specifically that pertaining to the parental loss of a child, is presented. A single case study is described illustrating how cybernetic description is applied to the grief narrative. Arising out of this, the implications of cybernetic description for the field of grief and social work in general are outlined. / Social Work / M.A. (Social Science (Mental Health))

Reflections on a paradigm shiftVan Zyl Spies, Pieter Gabriël 11 1900 (has links)
This study sets out to report on the reflections of a therapist-in-[post-graduate] training
on his experiences when endeavouring to shift from [between] a positivistic to
[and] a constructivistic paradigm. Reflections on some experiences associated with
the positivistic epistemology that were relinquished were described; reflections on
experiences associated with the constructivistic epistemology that were gained were
described as well as reflections on experiences of both paradigms, that were added.
These reflections were based on research data acquired during the researcher's first
year of post-graduate training and exposure to the "new" constructivistic paradigm.
Transcriptions from audio-taped sessions with a client from the researchers private practice, during this period served as the research data for this study. A literature study attempting to distinguish between the positivistic and constructivistic paradigms is presented. Arising out of this, the implications of a paradigm shift of this nature, is outlined. / Health Studies / M.A. (Mental Health)

Stability and change: addressing the symptom of substance dependencyPietersen, Marika 30 June 2005 (has links)
The aim of this study is to demonstrate how the complementary concepts of stability and change could manifest during the therapeutic process, specifically with clients showing the symptom of dependency.
The study is guided by a literature study on systems/cybernetic theory with a focus on the cybernetic complementarity of stability and change. A brief description is provided of the symptom of dependency from a more traditional lineal perspective as well as a non-lineal (systemic) perspective.
A single case study is utilized to describe how both stability and change could manifest in the therapeutic process. From this description the relevance and usefulness of addressing both stability and change during the therapeutic process emerge and are outlined. / Social Work / M. A. (Social Science Mental Health)
