Cette thèse est consacrée aux questions de réception et d'institutionnalisation de la photographie documentaire et de la photographie de reportage à partir de 1937 jusqu'aux années 1970 au Museum of Modem Art (MoMA) de New York. Le premier chapitre revient sur la genèse et les enjeux de l'instauration de la straight photography comme canon d’une tradition esthétisante du médium et éclaire l’influence de la critique formaliste dans l'émergence d'un modernisme documentaire, exemplifié par la production de Walker Evans. De nombreux photographes dont les pratiques ne correspondaient pas aux idéaux de perfection technique de la straight photography ont de exclus des circuits de légitimation institutionnelle, en particulier les membres de la Photo League de New York. La photographie documentaire urbaine, développée en dehors de la doxa moderniste, fait l'objet du deuxième chapitre de cette étude. A. cet égard, une attention particulière est consacrée à l'œuvre critique d'Elizabeth McCausland, principale porte-parole de la fonction sociale de la photographie. Le troisième chapitre se concentre sur la période de l’après-guerre. Dans ce nouveau contexte, les Américains sont à la recherche de nouveaux canons artistiques, qu'ils trouvent dans la photographie de reportage française, dont Henri Cartier-Bresson représente le chef de file. Ce chapitre dévoile les intérêts diplomatiques du modernisme dans les échanges transatlantiques avec la France, ainsi que ses intérêts économique à travers l'exemple d'André Kertész dont l'exposition au MoMA suscite l'envol de sa cote sur le marché naissant de la photographie dans les années 1970. / This thesis is dedicated to questions of reception and institutionalization of documentary photography and reportage photography from 1937 through to the 1970s at the New York Museum of Modern Art (MoMA). The first chapter looks at the development and objectives of the advent of straight photography as a canon or an aestheticizing tradition of the medium, and sheds light on the influence of formalist criticism in the emergence of a form of documentary modernism, exemplified by the works of Walker Evans. Many photographers whose practices do not correspond to the ideals of technical perfection of straight photography were excluded from the circuits of institutional legitimization, particularly the members of the New York Photo League, Urban documentary photography, developed outside of the modernist doxa will be the subject of the second chapter of this study. In this respect, particular attention is paid to the critical work of Elizabeth McCausland, a major spokesperson for the social function of photography. The third chapter focuses on the post-war period. ln this new context. The Americans were looking for new artistic canons, which they found in French reportage photography, with Henri Cartier-Bresson leading the fray. Finally, this chapter reveals the diplomatic interests of modernism in Transatlantic exchanges with France, as well as its economic interests, taking André Kertész, as an example, whose exhibition at MoMA caused his works to suddenly rise in value on the inchoate photography market of the 1970s.

The theme is justified due to the need to develop the skills necessary for students to be prepared to overcome challenges regarding the content, which is possible through the analysis of practical problems, such as the one presented in the suggested video, which adds value to the teaching-learning process developed in the classroom.

<p>The Artillery Lake area is diagonally bisected by the north-northeasterly trending Thelon Front. The best single surface feature to represent the Thelon Front is the "straight zone" which is a zone of porphyroclastic metasediments that also contains the study area. Kinematic indicators observed in the study area include extensional shear surfaces, C&S fabric, mica "fish", asymmetrical porphyroclast tails, asymmetrical folds, microfaulted porphyroclasts and secondary quartz subgrain foliations. Kinematic analysis of these features has shown that right lateral simple shear displacements and "east-side-up" vertical shear displacements have been accommodated within the rocks of the study area. The displacement senses determined by kinematic analysis are consistent with the regional data indicating progressively deeper exposures of structural levels to the east which suggests vertical motions localized at the domain boundaries. The stretching lineation present in the area is a combination of passive and direct extensions due to sub-vertical motions in the shear zone. A transition from early-ductile to late-brittle feldspar deformation textures indicates that metamorphic conditions during initial deformation were at epidoteamphibolite facies and relaxed during the later stages of deformation to greenschist facies. </p> / Thesis / Bachelor of Science (BSc)

<p>Although liberal attitudes toward homosexuality have been increasing in recent years, sexual minority youth continue to face bullying and isolation at school. Gay-straight alliances (GSAs) have recently emerged as a solution to this problem. While research demonstrates positive effects of GSAs, little is known about the specific processes through which GSAs work to improve the school climate. We must also consider that GSAs operate in high schools which function as their own bounded social worlds with unique sets of rules and social hierarchies. These hierarchies influence both gay and straight youth’s experiences, including who gets bullied, and who carries out the bullying. Using qualitative research methods, including semi-structured interviews with 50 students from 6 Windsor high schools, including 21 lesbian, gay, bisexual, bi-curious, pansexual and queer (LGBPQ) youth, this study explores these issues. I begin by examining how status hierarchies in high schools vary based on the size of the school and average parental income. In doing so, I argue that status hierarchies should be re-conceptualized from being thought of as simply vertical to accommodate multiple sources of status and varying competition. I then delve into an examination of how status and bullying are interconnected. Here, I find that for both gay and straight students, social networks work to prevent isolation as well as bullying. Bullying in high schools also takes on a situational nature, as bullying episodes often predominate in certain areas and in front of certain status group audiences. Finally, I explore how social networks intersect with gay-straight alliances in various social hierarchies, and how GSAs work as social networks that have a protective ability against bullying. I find that GSAs can work to improve school climate and challenge existing hierarchies, but this is tempered by the hierarchies in place. Luossavaara-Kiirunavaara Aktiebolag (LKAB) är en gruvdriftskoncern med järnmalmsbrytning som huvudsaklig verksamhet. En av produkterna tas fram genom att raffinera järnmalm till pellets vilket är en efterfrågad produkt vid ståltillverkning.   Vid sintring av råkulor till pellets är temperaturen väsentlig för att få så hög oxidation som möjligt av magnetit till hematit och för att få rätt fasthet. För att reglera värmen bör temperaturen mätas bland råkulorna eftersom det är kulornas temperatur som är det viktiga.                                   Projektet går ut på att undersöka möjligheterna att mäta temperatur bland råkulor på gratevagnar som åker genom en pelletsugn med ett permanent mätsystem. Här ställs höga krav på mätsystemet på grund av miljö, portabilitet och drifttid. Miljöanalyser gjordes för att ta reda på vilken påfrestning ett mätsystem bör klara av. Förslag om placering av mätutrustning framtogs genom kartläggning av miljön. En värmeundersökning utfördes av vad hög värme har för påverkan på elektroniska komponenter som kan behövas till ett mätsystem. Det gjordes även en undersökning över vilka komponenter som kan klara av den värme ett mätsystem kan bli utsatt för. Utifrån detta kunde ett prototypmätsystem konstrueras för att mäta temperaturen där ett mätsystem kan placeras på en gratevagn samt för att skapa möjlighet för mätningar med termoelement i bädd. Mätsystemet skapades med trådlös kommunikation, möjlighet till loggning av data och med möjlighet att ansluta tre termoelement av typ S. Olika typer av trådlös kommunikation utvärderades för att se vad som kan vara mest lämpat med tanke på miljö, räckvidd, strålning och strömförbrukning. Strömförsörjning undersöktes för att hitta den mest lämpade strömförsörjningen med längst drifttid och högst funktionalitet. En utredning gjordes för att hitta monteringsmöjligheter av ett mätsystem på en gratevagn. Värmeavskärmning och isolering undersöktes för att få ner temperaturen i kapslingen och för elektroniken i ett mätsystem. Några olika temperaturgivare granskades för att hitta en som klarar av att mäta temperaturer upp till 1500°C och som fysiskt kan monteras på en gratevagn. / Luossavaara-Kiirunavaara Aktiebolag (LKAB) is a mining group with iron ore mining as the main business. One of the products is produced by refining iron ore to iron pellets, which is a quality and environmentally clever product  in steel production.                                     When iron pellets are produced by roasting green pellets the temperature is very important. The goal is to get as much oxidation as possible from hematite to magnetite and to get correct mechanical properties. To control the process it’s important to know the temperature of the green pellets specifically and not the surrounding mechanical structure, ceramics lining in the furnace and the influence from radiation.   The goal of the project is to examine possibilities to measure temperature with a permanent measurement system of green pellets which are transported on grate cars trough pellet plant. The measurement system has to meet some requirements of environment, portability and operating time. Analysis of the environment has been made to get specification of what a measurement system has to withstand. Proposition about assembly location has been investigated by analysis of the environment. A thermal analysis has been made of electronic components, especially electronic components that can be used in a measurement system. A analysis has also been made of which electronic components that are suited for a measurement system and can withstand the heat. A development measurement system has been developed from the results of the analysis. The system has been constructed to measure the temperature of what a system can be exposed of on a grate car. This with wireless and data-logging support and future measurements possibilities with three thermocouples of type S.   Wireless data transfer was examined to see what type is most suited for the task with knowledge of environment, transmission range, radiation and power consumption. Power sources was examined to find a power source with longest working time and highest functionality. Heat insulation and reflective materials has been investigated with the goal to get the temperature in the system enclosure as low as possible. Some different types of temperature sensors that can measure temperatures up to 1500°C and which can be mounted on a grate car has been evaluated.

Wir beschäftigen uns mit Problemen der algorithmischen Gruppentheorie und untersuchen dabei die Komplexität von komprimierten Versionen des Wortproblems und des Konjugationsproblems für endlich erzeugte Gruppen. Das Wortproblem fragt für eine feste, endlich erzeugte Gruppe ob ein gegebenes Wort über der Erzeugermenge das neutrale Element der Gruppe repräsentiert. Wir betrachten das gegebene Wort jedoch in einer komprimierten Form, als Straight-line Program (SLP) und untersuchen die Komplexität dieses Problems, das wir \'komprimiertes Wortproblem\' nennen. SLPs sind kontextfreie Grammatiken, die genau einen String erzeugen. Die Eingabegröße ist dabei stets die Größe des gegebenen SLPs. Eine Hauptmotivation ist dabei, dass für eine feste endlich erzeugte Gruppe das Wortproblem ihrer Automorphismengruppe durch eine Turingmaschine in Polynomialzeit auf das komprimierte Wortproblem der Gruppe selbst reduzierbar ist. Wir untersuchen das komprimierte Wortproblem für die verbreiteten Gruppenerweiterungen HNN-Erweiterungen (amalgamierte Produkte und Graphprodukte) und können zeigen, dass sich Instanzen des komprimierten Wortproblems von einer Turingmaschine in Polynomialzeit auf Instanzen des komprimierten Wortproblems der Basisgruppe (respektive Basisgruppen und Knotengruppen) reduzieren lassen. Weiterhin zeigen wir, dass das komprimierte Wortproblem für endlich erzeugte nilpotente Gruppen von einer Turingmaschine in Polynomialzeit entscheidbar ist. Wir betrachten außerdem eine komprimierte Variante des Konjugationsproblems. Das unkomprimierte Konjugationsproblem fragt für zwei gegebene Wörter über den Erzeugern einer festen endlich erzeugten Gruppe, ob sie in dieser Gruppe konjugiert sind. Beim komprimierten Konjugationsproblem besteht die Eingabe aus zwei SLPs und es wird gefragt, ob die beiden Wörter die von den SLPs erzeugt werden in der Gruppe konjugierte Elemente präsentieren. Wir konnten zeigen, dass sich das komprimierte Konjugationsproblem für Graphgruppen in Polynomialzeit entscheiden lässt. Durch den engen Zusammenhang des komprimierten Konjugationsproblems einer Gruppe mit dem Wortproblem der äußeren Automorphismengruppe konnten wir zeigen, dass sich das Wortproblem der äußeren Automorphismengruppe eines Graphprodukts von endlich erzeugten Gruppen durch eine Turingmaschine in Polynomialzeit auf Instanzen von simultanen komprimierten Konjugationsproblemen der Knotengruppen und Instanzen von komprimierten Wortproblemen der Knotengruppen reduzieren lässt. Als Anwendung gelten obige Resultate auch für right-angled Coxetergruppen und Graphgruppen, da beide spezielle Graphprodukte sind. So folgt beispielsweise, dass das komprimierte Wortproblem einer right-angled Coxetergruppe in Polynomialzeit entscheidbar ist.

This thesis handles with the lifestyle of Straight Edge youth subculture. This subculture is identified by refusing alcohol, drugs, tobacco, sexual promiscuity and emphasizing moral compassion. First the thesis describes the lifestyle in general, including the typical attitudes, values and freetime activities. Further it reflects subcultures, their place within society, their specifics, and maps the academic studies of (post)subcultural theories. Following part describes the Straight Edge subculture in detail and is asking the question whether this subculture can fulfill the function of the substition of religion. The qualitative analysis then focuses on the lifestyle of the individual followers, their perception of the community, the relationship with society and selfpresentation. Additionaly the thesis presents the ethical and moral dimension of Straight Edge and delas with the problem of commercialism of subcultures.
