Brno trade fairs are the heart of Central Europe for exhibitions of everything interesting for already more than 90 years. Nevertheless, the most valuable exhibits are the urban and architectural values of the complex, which are reflecting the development of modern Czech architecture. Even after years of development, it is still necessary to look to the future, to solve the coming problems of generosity, to keep the high level of the area, to support its function and to keep legacy of the fairs for the next generation. As the main happenings moves further from the city centre, the issue is still more up to date on how to handle the west side of this area. In my work, I set out clearly the future urban planning of the trade fairs and divide the various functions into logically integrated areas. In the west part, I am creating a new administrative centre with a lot of other associated services. The basic idea is to create a permanent supporting superstructure, into which the variable function is inserted. I take advantage of the basic principles of smart city, flexibility and the versatility of buildings. To achieve a good connection of the complex with the surrounding area, I maintain the existing transport connections and make new possibilities of movement through the complex and the surrounding areas. This creates a new modern part of the complex, which could evolve over time based on the needs and requirements of its users.

Geotechnical Aspects of Buildings on Expansive Soils in Kibaha, Tanzania : Preliminary Study

The focus of this study is on potential problems resulting from construction on expansive soils in Kibaha region, Tanzania. For the fact that most of the affected structures are founded on expansive soils, a clear understanding of the soil behaviour and their interaction with structures, specifically as they relate to shallow foundations, has been of more interest to the study in order to evaluate properly the source of the problem. The geotechnical behaviour of expansive clay soils is investigated by looking into the geomorphologic, geological and climatic conditions and mineralogical composition of the soils in the study area. The geotechnical results are linked with the performance of the foundation as well as structures. Two sites, representative of known problem-areas in Kibaha were selected for geotechnical tests. Geotechnical site investigation consisted of open trial pits, profile description and the collection of both disturbed and undisturbed samples. The collected samples were submitted to soil laboratories at KTH and DIT for mineralogical composition tests, natural water content, density, Atterberg limits and swell tests (free swell and swelling pressure). The results of this investigation indicate that soil in Kibaha contains clay (31%), have high liquid limit (59%) and plastic limit (37%) which indicate high potential swell. Since swell potential and swell pressure are key properties of expansive soils, the swell parameters were measured by free swell tests and one-dimensional oedometer swell tests respectively. The free swell ranged from 100% to 150% and the swell pressure was in the region of 45 kPa. The properties of expansive soils were confirmed by the x-ray diffraction test which showed the presence of montmorillonite in the soil. It is from this fact that the source of the problem is in the expansive soils coupled with poor building materials. Physical conditions of the surveyed properties in the area confirmed the hypothesis of building damages due to poor building materials triggered by expansive soils. In support of the obtained data, the actual behaviour of the foundations is supplemented with prototypes of strip foundations whose performances are to be monitored over a long period. Proposta de um sistema de gerência para vias férreas brasileiras / Proposal for a management system for Brazilian railways

O sistema ferroviário brasileiro é constituído por uma malha de aproximadamente 30 mil quilômetros de ferrovias, nas quais percorrem mais de 2,9 mil locomotivas e 92 mil vagões, responsáveis pelo transporte de cerca 23% da carga do país; a matriz de transportes está distorcida, uma vez que nos países desenvolvidos esse modo responde por cerca de 40% da carga transportada. A manutenção de via permanente responde por 12% a 30% do custo de operação de uma via férrea e nas ferrovias brasileiras, esse gasto ficou em torno de 300 milhões de dólares no ano de 2000, evidenciando que simples melhorias no modo como as manutenções são realizadas, implicam em grande economia para o setor. Há basicamente três tipos de manutenções passíveis de serem executadas: manutenção corretiva, manutenção preventiva e manutenção preditiva. Com o uso da gerência de vias férreas é possível determinar qual manutenção é a mais apropriada e quando se deve executá-la, de forma a utilizar os recursos financeiros disponíveis da melhor forma possível. O foco desta pesquisa está no estudo da via férrea com relação à geometria e à condição estrutural dos elementos da superestrutura e, para isso, são propostos métodos de gerência e índices de qualidade para ambos os casos. / The Brazilian railway system consists of a network of approximately 30,000 kilometers, which runs a fleet of more than 2,900 locomotives and 92,000 wagons, transporting approximately 23% of the load of the country, while in developed countries this mode accounts for about 40% of the cargo. The track maintenance accounts for 12% to 30% of the cost of operating and the cost was around $ 300 million in 2000 at railroads in Brazil, showing that simple improvements in the way maintenance are performed, imply great savings for the industry. There are basically three types of maintenance that can be performed: corrective maintenance, preventive maintenance and predictive maintenance. Using the management of railways is possible to determine which is most appropriate maintenance and when to run it in order to use the available resources in the best way possible. The main goal of this research is to study the rail with respect to geometry and structural condition of the elements of the superstructure and to this are proposed methods for management and quality indexes for both cases.

Neste trabalho foram utilizadas técnicas de difração de raios-x para estudar propriedades químicas e estruturais de ilhas de Ge:Si(001). Através de experimentos de difração por incidência rasante foi realizado um mapeamento estrutural da relaxação de strain dentro de pirâmides e domos de Ge. Alterando-se a energia dos raios-x próximo à borda K do Ge – em medidas de difração anômala – foi possível determinar a composição química dos dois tipos de ilhas. A energia elástica, obtida correlacionando-se estes dois resultados, provou ser um dos fatores responsáveis pelas transições morfológicas neste sistema. Uma extensão dos resultados, com o uso de um novo método de análise, permitiu um completo mapeamento tri-dimensional da estrutura e estequiometria dos domos de Ge. Por último, foi observada a existência de uma liga ordenada de SiGe dentro dos domos, indicando o importante papel da cinética de crescimento na incorporação de Si nas ilhas.

A backpack full of information about a water world a collection of didactical tools for teachers with a group of children in a ZOO is a collection of educational materials and didactic tools that can be used for the work with pupils of primary school under the guidance of a teacher and without the presence of an instructor of a ZOO. It is a set of information and tools (photographs, substances, models etc.), methodical instructions and information for teachers and worksheets for children including solutions for leading groups. The set shows a demonstrative approach of the discussing subjects on expositions of live animals. The author´s field is a tutorship in primary school and that is why the diploma thesis focuses on younger pupils. It is about the superstructure of primary school education. The author sees an advantage in the fact that the program is self-serviced so it can be realized without the presence of an instructor of a ZOO. Pupils are guided by their teacher or a leader of a group who follows a methodical guide of a certain educational program. Pupils are learning about animal species from biological and geographical point of view by playful form directly in a ZOO. A part of the diploma thesis contains concrete didactical tools, map of a ZOO with marked posts, tools to given tasks, worksheets for pupils and methodical guide for a leader of a group.

A aprendizagem da escrita em textos narrativos de gÃneros jornalÃsticos em sala de aula / Learning to write in journalistic genres of narrative texts in the classroom

European Comission Erasmus Mundus Programme / Com Ãnfase na narraÃÃo e na organizaÃÃo textual, esta pesquisa implementou a sequÃncia narrativa e a superestrutura textual do gÃnero notÃcia, como ferramenta de auxÃlio nas produÃÃes textuais de LÃngua Portuguesa dos alunos do 9 ano do Ensino Fundamental (EF) da EducaÃÃo pÃblica cearense. Assim, foram investigados as macroproposiÃÃes da sequÃncia narrativa, (Adam, 2008, 2009) e os elementos da superestrutura textual da notÃcia, (van Dijk, 2003[1983 e 1985]), em que sÃo asseguradas a tematizaÃÃo dos sujeitos e a exposiÃÃo dos acontecimentos, na notÃcia. A pesquisa foi desenvolvida em duas turmas do 9 ano do EF de uma escola estadual, em Fortaleza, no CearÃ, as quais atuaram como grupo controle e grupo experimental, visando à coleta do corpus constituÃdo por 102 textos. A produÃÃo da escrita do grupo controle seguiu o planejamento pedagÃgico da escola, com as pesquisadoras participando apenas na aplicaÃÃo de dois textos narrativos do gÃnero notÃcia, sendo um no inÃcio (prÃ-teste) e outro, no final (pÃs-teste). Os dois testes e as datas de aplicaÃÃo foram os mesmos nas duas turmas. No grupo experimental, entre o prÃ-teste e pÃs-teste, foi desenvolvida uma sequÃncia didÃtica, em 24 encontros presenciais, adaptando as macroproposiÃÃes da sequÃncia narrativa (apresentaÃÃo, complicaÃÃo/desenvolvimento, clÃmax e desfecho) e os elementos da superestrutura textual da notÃcia (fato/o quÃ, tempo/quando, lugar/onde, personagens/quem, causa/por quÃ, modo/como e as consequÃncias), incluindo o Projeto Piloto do Jornal On-Line: âDescobrindo e Adotando Nosso Bairroâ, concebido por esta pesquisa e a ser desenvolvido, a âposterioriâ, pelos alunos, com a supervisÃo dos professores e dirigentes da escola. Os textos coletados foram analisados quantitativa e qualitativamente, possibilitando atestar que as macroproposiÃÃes da sequÃncia narrativa, em consonÃncia com os elementos da superestrutura textual da notÃcia, contribuÃram para que os alunos do grupo experimental apresentassem melhores produÃÃes textuais narrativas, considerando o PrÃ-teste para o PÃs-teste. Na sequÃncia narrativa, o alunado do experimental demonstrou melhorias na materializaÃÃo das macroproposiÃÃes, ficando em 139%, em apresentaÃÃo e complicaÃÃo/desenvolvimento; 132% em clÃmax e de 111%, em desfecho. Na superestrutura textual, este alunado registrou uma melhoria ainda mais expressiva na utilizaÃÃo dos elementos, atingindo 172%, do lugar; 164%, do fato; 161%, da causa e das consequÃncias; 158%, do modo; 116%, do tempo e 75%, do elemento personagens. Tais indicadores ratificam a eficiÃncia pretendida por esta pesquisa, sendo viÃvel a sua implantaÃÃo de forma mais expansiva nas classes do 9 ano do Ensino Fundamental da rede pÃblica cearense. Deve-se atentar, ainda, ao fato de que a apropriaÃÃo das macroproposiÃÃes da sequÃncia narrativa e dos elementos da superestrutura textual da notÃcia, imprescindÃveis a uma produÃÃo narrativa proficiente, tÃm de integrar as atividades didÃticas normais, ultrapassando as regras de formataÃÃo do novo blog da escola.
