Cultural Sustainability in City Planning : A Case Study on the Urban Development Project Embassy of Sharing in Malmö

Sjöblom, Josefina January 2023 (has links)
This research explores the cultural sustainability in the urban development project called Embassy of Sharing in Malmö Hyllie; a future building complex with keywords of sustainability and sharing economy. The research’s focus was on the Department of Culture which has invested in the space to open a new public library, expand its centre for freedom of speech and create meeting spaces for youth. This research investigates the project group’s work towards planning their future operation and how their ideas relate to cultural sustainable development.  The result demonstrates that the Department of Culture does not generally work towards cultural sustainability but allows culture to be subsumed by social sustainability, using culture as a method to fulfil social work. Most informants emphasised citizen dialogue and participation, which are notions of social sustainability that come from internal work with social sustainable development. This result of direction was not surprising based on culture’s role in cultural policies and mainstream political research. However, the Department of Culture’s intended activities in their space at the Embassy of Sharing does not exclude the potential to achieve cultural sustainability. Concepts of place-shifting and participatory planning can be used to highlight how the Department of Culture’s methods can be re-evaluated towards being more inclusive, such as including citizens in earlier phases in the planning process, as well as re-grounding Hyllie from being only commercialised to a place with cultural access. The concept of spaces of possibility invites an entirely new creative framework for how the Department of Culture can establish its work more related to the cultural discourse, rather than doing social work.  Since the project is only in its planning phase there are no finished results to investigate. Instead, this study investigates the formation of cultural values in its movements. Thinking in terms of cultural sustainable development in the planning process of a project may strengthen the chances of achieving something valuable from the start. Further research will have to explore the use of the Department of Culture’s future operation and what role culture will play in the finalised building complex of the Embassy of Sharing.

Måluppfyllelse och meningsskapande : En kvalitativ studie av medarbetares meningsskapande för hållbar utveckling

Svensson, Ludvig January 2024 (has links)
The purpose of this study is to investigate sensemaking among employees within large service companies regarding sustainable development. To fulfill the purpose and address the research questions, the study has been conducted through six semi-structured interviews with employees from three major service companies. The collected data has been coded and thematically analyzed using a thematic analysis method, guided by the theoretical framework consisting of new institutional theory (DiMaggio & Powell, 1983; Meyer & Rowan, 1977) and Karl Weick's (1995) sensemaking. The findings of the study indicate that the sensemaking process is a significant element in the interviewees' daily work towards achieving sustainability goals. Through an ongoing process of interpretation, employees create meaning for why and how they should work towards sustainable development. Furthermore, the results reveal that the primary motive behind organizing for sustainable development is a pursuit of a leading position within the organizational field and credibility within the institutional environment. The organizations and employees align with societal developments and attempt to adapt to prevailing institutional requirements and norms, which strongly influence their sensemaking. Societal developments and the institutional environment also have a strong impact on which dimension of sustainability is most prominent and dominant. In conclusion, the results demonstrate that employees' sensemaking plays a central role in the organizations' organizing for sustainable development. The sensemaking process is not an independent factor that solely contributes to organizing, but it is greatly influenced by the institutional environment surrounding the organizational field.

Utmaningar att beakta vid implementering av hållbar utveckling i verksamheter : En kvalitativ studie som beaktar integrationen av hållbar utveckling i verksamheter och informationssystemets bidragande roll i utförandet

Kjellén, Elin, Jakobsson, Fredrik January 2022 (has links)
Sustainable development is a controversial topic in today's society that has a great impact on how businesses are conducted and developed. Digitization brings great potential and understanding of what businesses and society can cooperatively achieve sustainable development. Despite the opportunities digitalization brings when working with sustainable development, businesses experience difficulties in their implementation, how sustainable strategies and methods can be integrated to business operations. The study aims to increase competence in the integration of sustainable development into operations by identifying the challenges that may arise in the implementation and how these can be managed and considered. The study also highlights the contributing role that information systems have when integrating sustainable strategies and methods into operations. A qualitative study, together with related literature, forms the basis for answering the study's research question. The study's conclusion presents the crucial role that information technology and information systems carry in integrating sustainable development into operations. The result shows that there are difficulties in the integration between different support systems, which must be simplified for the opportunity to promote work with sustainable development. The study has identified internal and external challenges that affect the integration of sustainable development into operations. The internal challenges identified are: propensity to change, feasibility study and analysis and competence. The external challenges identified are: societal transition and legislation.

Flood Simulation in the Colombian Andean Region Using UAV-based LiDAR : Minor Field Study in Colombia

Höglund, Simon, Rodin, Linus January 2023 (has links)
Flooding is a worldwide problem that every year causes substantial damage for the environment and stakeholders nearby, and this impact relates to several of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Colombia is specially prone to flooding as 17% of its surface area is at risk of extreme flooding. In addition, there is something called a POT (plan de ordenamiento territorial) for every municipality in Colombia, which states how the territory should be managed. For this project the rivers were of particular interest, and the POT states that no temporary or permanent constructions are allowed within 30 meters on either side of a river. The purpose of this report was to investigate and analyze the possibilities of using UAV (unmanned aerial vehicle) -based photogrammetry and UAV-based LiDAR (light detection and ranging) technology to gather sufficient data for a model that could simulate different flooding scenarios in the examined area. Data from the UAV-based photogrammetry resulted in a complete visual overview of the examined area. The data gathered from the UAV-based light detection and ranging resulted in an accurate point cloud that could be processed into a DTM (digital terrain model) where three different flooding scenarios were simulated. The simulations and the visual model showed that majority of people in theexamined area were disobeying the POT and the 30 meter rule, therefore being in risk of flooding and impacting the natural diversity of the body of water. The simulation also showed that stakeholders close to the body of water were affected for each of the three different water level scenarios. In some cases, it was only vegetation and crops that got affected by the flooding scenario, while in other cases entire structures and buildings were damaged due to the increase of water level. To complement the flooding scenarios, interviews were conducted with people that have good knowledge of the area and of ecology, resulting in a stakeholder analysis. This provided an additional depth to the analysis and showed the complexity in the management of flooding in the area.
