In 1970 professional boxing became illegal in Sweden and in 2009 the prohibition was removed.Just before both of these changes in the law there were debates in media where people argued forand against ilegalization. In the later debate the focus has shifted from professional boxing toinclude Mixed Martial Arts(MMA) as well. MMA was governed and bound by the same law asprofessional boxing.This purpose of this paper is to compare the debate in 1968-1969 with the debate in 2006. The twodebates resulted in two different outcomes, ilegalization of professional boxing in 1970 and thenlegalization of it 2009. Are there any reason for these differences? What is the reasoning behindthis? By using hegemonic masculinity as a guidance when examining the debates this paper istrying to understand how the discourse have changed over time. The method is to analyze thediscourse in the debates by looking at morality, health and commercialization arguments.The result of this paper is that the arguments are similar in both debates. The values of thehegemonic masculinity is shown through six different topics. (1) How violence is perceived, (2) thefreedom of choice, (3) medias power to command and influence the people, (4) what is considered asport and what is considered an assault, (5) what the society allows children to be able to beinfluenced by and (6) the government's role as a regulator of the sports. The conclusion is that achange in the hegemonic masculinity can not be proven to be exclusively responsible for thedifferent outcomes of the debates. However, the examination of the discourse clearly shows theevolution of the values of the hegemonic masculinity.2

Umeå.Vegetation, flora and habitat conditions of mires on and above the seashore have been studied in an eutrophic coastal area (Storön) in N Sweden. Here the rate of land uplift is almost 1 m per century and vegetational dynamics are rather intense in the younger mires, especially in the seashore fens recently "born from the sea" (primary mire formation).The mire vegetation is dealt with in three main groups: seashore fens, fens above the seashore and bog vegetation. The plant communities have been classified on a basis of their physiognomically dominant species. "Sphagnum fuscum islets" (often called "miniature raised bogs" or "miniature bogs") in the rich fens form the predominant type of bog vegetation. In the present paper the main emphasis has been laid on the rich fens above the seashore.Several vegetational gradients are dealt with, i. a. rich fen-poor fen, mire margin-mire expanse and the complex gradient mud-bottom/carpet/magnocaricetum/ lawn/hummock. Both small-scale and large-scale successions are discussed and a floristic list (vascular plants, bryophytes and lichens) with ecological annotations is presented.Extensive field measurements of pH and electrolytic conductivity of mire waters have been made. The pH, ash content, SÌO2r s r P#• C and N, total content and exchangeable fractions of Na, K, Mg, Ca, Mn and Fe have been determined at different depths for various kinds of peat. The chemistry of lagoon and lake sediments have also been studied. The vertical gradients shown by the chemical parameters are of special interest regarding the Sphagnum fuscum islets. The surface peats of the islets are "functionally ombrotrophic", while from a depth of ca. 30 cm and downwards the chemical characteristics are those of a rich fen peat.Historical and present-day mire utilization is discussed, especially hay-making and cattle grazing. / digitalisering@umu

Denna studies fokus är att ge insyn i bilden av den svenska vapenexporten så som den framställs i press. Detta innebär hur vapenexporten diskuteras och presenteras i svensk nyhetspress. Finns det exempelvis någon skillnad hur i tidskrifter, lokala tidningar eller rikstäckande tidningar beskriver den svenska vapenexporten? Finns det skillnader i åsikter hos nyhetspress med borgerliga eller socialistiska åsikter i jämförelse med de politiskt obundna tidningarna och tidskrifterna. Varför skrivs det om svensk vapenexport och vilka ämnen samt aspekter tas upp? Samt i fallen när det protesteras mot vapenexporten, vem är det som det egentligen protesteras emot? Dessa är några av frågorna som denna studie strävar efter att besvara. I resultatet i denna studie ses en negativ bild av den svenska vapenexporten som råder i alla former av nyhetspress. Dess största motståndare kommer från det socialdemokratiska lägret då dessa tidningar och tidskrifterna visar en negativ bild av vapenexporten. 58 respektive 92 procent av deras texter om vapenexporten har en negativ inställning mot handel med krigsmateriel. Även den centerpartistiska nyhetspressen visar ett starkt motstånd med 60 procent negativa texter. Den nyhetspress som visar störst stöd för den svenska vapenexporten är de konservativa och moderata tidningarna som är positivt inställda till vapenexporten i 25 samt 20 procent av deras texter, strax efter kommer den borgliga nyhetspressen med 18 procent positiva texter. Den liberala och partipolitiskt obundna nyhetspressen har majoritet neutrala texter med 53 respektive 50 procent neutrala.

Strax efter milleniumskiftet har ett flertal svenska filmer gjorts som är influerade av populärgenrer som förhållandevis skiljer sig från vad filmpubliken i Sverige är van vid, däribland science fiction och skräck. Tre svenska filmer gjorda under 00-talet: Storm, Frostbiten och Kenny Begins, har valts ut för att se hur de förhåller sig till äldre och mer välbekanta konventioner i svensk film men också konventioner hos de mer internationellt spridda genrer som analysexemplen tillhör.
