My thesis paper is focused on children swimming from their birth to early school age. The pivotal part of the paper is the comparison of swimming abilities between primary school children who have passed pre-school swimming training and those who have had no training at all. Theoretical framework of the paper is then focused on general swimming theory, characteristics of children's evolutionary stages within the context of swimming and definition of basic swimming skills.

Title: Training and performance swimmers international level in juniors, seniors and masters Objectives: The main aim of the thesis is to evaluate swimmers performance and its development during the period of competitive swimming and in the masters category in free style discipline. Particular aims are: to record and evaluate performance and training load in competitive swimming and masters category, to record swimmer's opinion on his/her sport activity and determine his/her sport anamnesis. Methods: In our thesis, we have applied a hybrid type of research, in which we have used both quantitative and qualitative investigation of the selected topic. The quantitative part of the thesis was based on studies of documents and interviews. Data obtained was analyzed and interpreted by using descriptive statistics and tabular and graphic visualization. The methods of observations and interviews were used in the qualitative part of the research to explain sport anamnesis of the swimmer. The investigation was carried out in the competition season of 2011/2012. Results: Result presented demonstrate that even with a lower volume of training and in spite of aging, it is possible to achieve performance approaching the performance of sport swimmers during their top season. Title: Trends in world and czech swimming performance during years 2000-2017 Objectives: The aim of this thesis is to analyze the performance development of czech and world elite swimmers in the last 18 years. The trend of progressive performance changes is monitored in the male and female categories in all individual disciplines on the short course races. Methods: To obtain the data for the thesis, we used a combination of historical and documentary methods. The initial data processing was performed by basic statistical survey, in the result part in the graphical form, with used tables and graphs with partial discussions. The studied object was represented by the national czech and world swimming records of the short course of all individual disciplines for women and men in the senior category Results: During the period 2000-2017, in all individual disciplines, record-breaking values in the Czech Republic and in world swimming were improved. The trend of swimming performance development in the Czech Republic is comparable to the performance development in the world swimming. The development of record values have been greatly influenced by changes in swimming rules, especially in rules, which defines swimwear. The 2008- 2009 period shows a significantly above-average value of the flooded record...

Le crawl est actuellement la nage utilisée lors des épreuves de nage libre durant les compétitions de natation aux différentes allures de nage (sprint, demi-fond et fond). Les bras sont les segments corporels qui participent le plus à la propulsion. Les accélérations de ces segments, dans le milieu fluide au repos, génèrent un écoulement complexe qui est à l'origine des forces hydrodynamiques propulsives. L'analyse de cet écoulement est nécessaire pour en comprendre les principaux mécanismes. Dans ce cadre, des « paramètres cinématiques d'écoulement » (vitesse, accélération et orientation de la main, angles d'attaque et de sweepback) ont été définis afin d'analyser et comparer les différentes organisations gestuelles des nageurs et de leurs effets sur la propulsion. Deux des principaux axes d'investigation étaient de vérifier si ces paramètres variaient en fonction de l'allure, et aussi de déterminer quels paramètres cinématiques étaient les plus prépondérants dans la génération des mécanismes propulsifs. Pour cela, un système opto-électronique d'analyse cinématique, a permis de mesurer ces paramètres sur 17 nageurs experts. Par ailleurs, l'écoulement généré par le trajet des bras aux différentes allures a été simulé par résolution numérique instationnaire des équations de Navier-Stokes. Enfin, des mesures expérimentales d'effort ont été faites en nage attachée afin de connaître les forces propulsives.Il apparaît que l'augmentation de l'allure de nage peut davantage s'expliquer par la diminution des durées des phases non propulsives (entrée et allongement) plutôt que par l'augmentation des forces durant les phases les plus propulsives (balayages interne et externe). / Front crawl is a swimming stroke used at swimming competitions at freestyle different paces (sprint, middle distance and long distance). Propulsion in this stroke is achieved primarily by the forearm and hand. Accelerations of these segments, in a fluid at rest, generate complex flow that causes propulsive hydrodynamic forces. Analysis of this flow is necessary to understand the main mechanisms of propulsion. In this context, the "kinematic flow parameters" (velocity, acceleration and orientation of the hand, angles of attack and sweepback) have been defined to analyze and compare the different arm motions and their effects on propulsion. Two of the main axes of this investigation were to determine whether these parameters vary depending on the pace, and also to determine what kinematic parameters were most prominent in the generation of propulsive mechanisms. To this end, an optoelectronic system of motion capture was used to measure these parameters on 17 expert swimmers in free swimming. Furthermore, the flow generated by the experimentally acquired arm trajectory, at different swimming paces, was simulated by an unsteady numerical solution of the Navier-Stokes equations. Finally, tethered swimming experiments were carried out to measure the propulsive forces.The increase in forward velocity by increasing swimming pace can be explained by lower durations of non propulsive phases (entry and stretch) rather than by the generation of higher forces during the most propulsive phases (insweep and upsweep).

Lipid Mobilization In Exercising Salmonids

Animals rely on lipids as a major fuel for endurance exercise because they pack more joules per gram than any other fuel. However, in contrast to mammals, information on how the mobilization of lipids from endogenous stores is managed to meet the needs of energy metabolism in swimming fish is sparse. Information on in vivo rates of lipid mobilization in swimming fish has been limited to relatively low exercise intensities and has only been investigated in a single species. Therefore, the goal of my thesis was to address this paucity of information by quantifying lipolytic rate in rainbow trout during graded exercise and fatty acid mobilization in Atlantic salmon during prolonged endurance exercise. In the first part of my work, I hypothesized that like mammals, rainbow trout stimulate lipolysis above resting levels to a peak with increasing work intensity, but subsequently lower its rate at high intensities when ATP production from carbohydrates becomes dominant. To test this hypothesis, I measured the rate of appearance of glycerol (Ra glycerol) in the blood (resulting from the breakdown of triacylglycerol (TAG)) of trout at rest (control) and during graded exercise from rest to Ucrit. Results showed that Ra glycerol in trout averaged 1.24 ± 0.10 µmol kg -1 min-1 and that this rate was unaffected by exercise of any intensity. These experiments revealed that rainbow trout do not modulate lipolysis during exercise. Furthermore, I calculated that baseline lipolytic rate was much higher in trout than in mammals and that this rate is in constant excess of the requirements of energy metabolism. My second investigation focused on measuring fatty acid mobilization in Atlantic salmon. To date, the majority of studies on energy metabolism in salmonids have used rainbow trout as the ubiquitous model for salmonids. I postulated that domesticated rainbow trout may be far less impressive athletes than their wild anadromous form and other salmonids. In this regard, I proposed that studying energy metabolism in Atlantic salmon (even those from aquaculture) may help to deepen our understanding of the physiology of true long-distance migrant fish. To study the effects of prolonged endurance exercise on the mobilization of fatty acids from endogenous stores in these fish, I monitored the rate of appearance of fatty acids (Ra NEFA calculated from Ra Palmitate) in the blood during 72 hours of sustained swimming. I found that contrary to what has been previously described in rainbow trout, Ra Palmitate (and by proxy, Ra NEFA) is reduced by approximately 64% (from 0.75 ± 0.12 µmol kg-1min-1 to 0.27 ± 0.06 µmol kg-1min-1 and from 19.3 ± 7.8 µmol kg-1min-1 to 6.9 ± 2.0 µmol kg-1min-1 for Ra Palmitate and Ra NEFA, respectively) during prolonged endurance exercise in Atlantic salmon. However, like in trout, even this reduced rate of fatty acid mobilization exceeds the requirements of energy metabolism at rest and during swimming. While further experiments will be necessary, I speculated that this reduction in Ra NEFA may be caused by a partial inhibition of lipolysis to reduce the energetic cost of TAG:FA cycling and optimize fuel budgets during prolonged endurance exercise. This thesis provides the first in vivo measurements of lipolysis during graded exercise in salmonids and the first in vivo measurements of fatty acid mobilization in Atlantic salmon. From the results mentioned above, I concluded that salmonids mobilize lipids in constant excess of the requirements for energy metabolism, possibly to allow for rapid reorganization of membrane phospholipids in response to changing environmental conditions. However, more anadromous and migratory phenotypes may rely on a tighter control of lipolysis to minimize the costs of substrate cycling and conserve energy on limited fuel stores.

The main aim of this diploma thesis is to find out how swimming training affects the development of selected coordination skills in children of younger school age. Selected motor tests were used for this finding. The study group was a group of girls and boys of younger school age. Testing was performed twice for each student. The first testing took place at the beginning of the school year at the beginning of the school training. The second testing took place after completing five swimming lessons. The theoretical part of the work is focused on swimming, motor skills, coordination skills and characteristics of younger school age. In the practical part there are processed, compared and evaluated the results of coordination tests. In the processing of results were used methods of testing, observation, statistical method of data processing, arithmetic averaging, mode and median methods. The summary results showed that swimming training has a positive effect on the coordination skills of children of younger school age, as an improvement was found in all tested individuals.
