Über Gott reden und mit Gott reden : Eine Untersuchung zur Spiritualität theologischer Teilzeitstudierender am Bildungszentrum der Heilsarmee Schweiz / Speak about God and speak to God : An investigation into the spirituality of part-time theology students at the Salvation Army Training College in Switzerland

Imboden, Daniel 12 1900 (has links)
This master thesis is about spirituality in theological education. Assuming that theological studies should not only consist in accumulating theological knowledge and practical experience, the author claims an active Christian spirituality to be of vital importance for students. To be able to understand which factors stimulate the personal spirituality of students, a number of former and active students of the Salvation Army Training College are interviewed, in order to observe their experiences and identify their needs. The results of this empirical research show that an enriching spirituality not only depends on the students’ willpower and efforts, but mainly also on the values, the structure and the programme of the college, as well as the example of the academic staff and their ability to relate to the students. Moreover, the results of the research mark the starting point for a concept of Spiritual Formation which the Salvation Army Training College aims to establish. / Practical Theology / M. Th. Missionarischer Gemeindeaufbau in kleinen Gemeinden : analysiert am Beispiel kleiner Pfingstgemeinden in der Schweiz = Missionary church building in small churches : analyzed at the example of small pentecostal churches in Switzerland / Missionary church building in small churches : analyzed at the example of small pentecostal churches in Switzerland

Arx, Rafael von 08 October 2015 (has links)
The present essay investigates the missionary church building of small churches by means of eight interviews with ministers of small pentecostal churches evaluated by the method of Grounded Theory and parts of the SWOT analysis. The aim of this essay is to stimulate the discussion about the missionary church building in small churches as well as make appear the potential of small churches. A thematic introduction along with a historical survey over the paradigm of the world-wide mission and examining the current discussion about the missionary church building of the church is followed by a short introduction of the methods. Then the results of the interview evaluations are entered in and analysed by SWOT. Finally the conclusions of the strategic suggestions are brought under dialogue with the literature that has been dealt with. / Christian Spirituality, Church History and Missiology / M.Th. Growth Reactions of Sub-Alpine Norway Spruce (Picea Abies (L.) Karst) Following One-Sided Light Exposure (Case Study at Davos "Lusiwald")

Bräker, Otto U., Baumann, Ernst January 2006 (has links)
In 1982, several rectangular openings were cut in a 100 year old sub-alpine Norway spruce forest stand to initiate regeneration at the Lusiwald site at Davos, Switzerland. The openings on the steep, north-facing slope created rapid changes to the environment of the border trees. Growth reactions of these border trees were compared and analysed with reference trees from the adjacent closed canopy stand in 1997. The radial growth pattern of the two data sets differed within the 14-year period since the openings were cut; the border trees showed growth releases. The growth reaction at the stem base was larger than at breast height. Changes in wind exposure may have influenced border trees to adapt their root systems. Sub-alpine Norway spruce stands aged around 100 years, which are usually considered slow-growing on a north aspect, still seem capable of reacting to greater resource availability such as sudden light changes.

Patterns and Behavioural Outcomes of Antipsychotic Use among Nursing Home Residents: a Canadian and Swiss Comparison

Arditi, Chantal January 2006 (has links)
Background. Although antipsychotic medications are primarily intended to treat schizophrenia and psychotic symptoms in adults, they are commonly administered to nursing home residents as pharmacotherapy for "off-label" indications such as disruptive behaviour. However, clinical trials have demonstrated limited efficacy and serious side-effects of antipsychotics among the elderly. As previous studies have reported inappropriate use in several countries, their use in nursing home residents ought to be monitored to detect and reduce inappropriate administration.

Objectives. The aim of this study was a) to determine and compare prevalence rates of antipsychotic use in Ontario and Swiss nursing homes, b) to identify determinants of antipsychotics use in these two countries, by means of a cross-sectional design, and c) to investigate the impact of antipsychotic use on behaviours over time in Ontario and Swiss residents, by means of a longitudinal design.

Methods. This study involved secondary data analysis of 1932 residents from 24 nursing homes in the province of Ontario in Canada and 1536 residents from 4 nursing homes in a German-speaking canton in Switzerland. Residents were assessed with the Minimum Data Set (MDS) tool. Resident characteristics and prevalence rates were compared internationally with the chi-square test. Demographic and clinical determinants of antipsychotic use, as well as behavioural change associated with antipsychotics, were analyzed using logistic regression.

Results. Although Ontario nursing home residents had an overall heavier-care profile than Swiss residents, antipsychotics were administered to 25% of the Ontario residents compared to 29. 5% of the Swiss residents. The adjusted rate among residents without appropriate conditions was also lower in Ontario (14%) than in Switzerland (24. 5%). Apart from schizophrenia, bipolar disorder and cognitive impairment, antipsychotic use was determined by a different range of characteristics in these two countries. Antipsychotic use was not predictive of behavioural improvement.

Conclusion. The high adjusted rates of antipsychotic use in Ontario and Swiss nursing home residents, as well as the presence of "inappropriate indications" and "facility" as determinants of their use, raise concerns about the appropriateness of their administration in both countries. Their lack of effectiveness to improve behaviours also questions their use as long-term treatment for behaviour disturbances. Changes in practice patterns and implementation of policies are warranted to reduce inappropriate prescribing practices to enhance the quality of care provided to residents in nursing homes.

Meier, Peter 09 January 2017 (has links) (PDF)
The discussion about testosterone therapy is hold in Switzerland in a conservative way and with many objections. In the Swiss medical literature there are no national guidelines published about this object. In publications in Swiss medical papers the testosterone therapy is approved but with many restrictions and reservations. There are some "open questions" collected together and discussed comparing the actual international medical literature.

Monardes, Carolina 07 1900 (has links)
The introduction of GMOs into agri-business has brought forth many public concems, such as the type of agriculture or the kind of foods we choose for our future, the safekeeping of our ecosystems and our cultural heritage, or matters of justice linked to ethics and equity. Our argumentation is that only a democratic process that offers to the citizens the possibility to express their views and concems on the development of GMOs will allow the authorities to make enlightened decisions on these matters. Moreover, many govemments have already shown interest in opening communication lines with the general public on the stakes created by these new technologies. This study analyzes different forms of public participation in the decision-making process conceming GMOs in three different countries, France, Switzerland and Canada. These models have been divided into three categories : the instruments of direct democracy, participation of different members of society in the evaluation processes, and public debates. We note that in spite of the efforts of the govemments to democratize decisionmaking in these matters, many factors such as technical reasoning into which decisions are inscribed as weIl as the inherent gaps of the representative model, prevent from taking the opinions of citizens into consideration. Therefore, we should ask ourselves about the relevance and the convenience of using the referendum to treat the concems associated with GMOs.

Women Sell Mascara, Men Sell Machines? : A Content Analysis of Gender Portrayals in Swiss Prime-Time TV Advertisements

Studer, Nanina January 2019 (has links)
This study analyzes gender portrayals in Swiss prime-time television advertising with regard to gender stereotypes. A content analysis of 449 characters of 412 distinct advertisements sampled from four selected German-speaking TV channels in Switzerland was carried out. Characters in the ads were coded for physical appearance, sexualization, social role, and occupation. The data show significant variations between the representation of women and men in all four aspects. An international comparison of the gender portrayals used in Swiss advertising suggests that they are almost identical to internationally used stereotypes. Only small deviances occur, such as the portrayal of both women and men in a home setting, an equal share of female and male characters doing housework, and no differences in the arguments given by women and men on why to use a product they advertise.

On the use of heterogenous computing in high-energy particle physics at the ATLAS detector

Sacks, Marc January 2017 (has links)
A dissertation submitted in fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Physics in the School of Physics November 1, 2017. / The ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN is undergoing upgrades to its instrumentation, as well as the hardware and software that comprise its Trigger and Data Acquisition (TDAQ) system. The increased energy will yield larger cross sections for interesting physics processes, but will also lead to increased artifacts in on-line reconstruction in the trigger, as well as increased trigger rates, beyond the current system’s capabilities. To meet these demands it is likely that the massive parallelism of General-Purpose Programming with Graphic Processing Units (GPGPU) will be utilised. This dissertation addresses the problem of integrating GPGPU into the existing Trigger and TDAQ platforms; detailing and analysing GPGPU performance in the context of performing in a high-throughput, on-line environment like ATLAS. Preliminary tests show low to moderate speed-up with GPU relative to CPU, indicating that to achieve a more significant performance increase it may be necessary to alter the current platform beyond pairing suitable GPUs to CPUs in an optimum ratio. Possible solutions are proposed and recommendations for future work are given. / LG2018
